I really think we could see the 3-4 here next year fellas. Al Davis ran that defense when we had Lyle Alzado. We could easily add a fat guy and end up with McClain and Goethel at ILB. Wimbley is a 3-4 LB too.

    I’m holding out hope!

  • Just Fire Baby

sorry JFB, but those numbers just SCREAM Jason Campbell to me.

    *****************************

Being 12-2 and playing the Super Champs down to the final series with home-field advantage throughout the playoffs on the line, on MNF does not scream Campbell.

Playing a meaningless game, for a 7-8 team and putting up decent stats in a loss do however.

  • J Hill

32 of 44 for 185 yards and lots of FG’s.

    —————————————————-

Don’t see the WRs doing anything with the ball still, huh?

I agree we need to get DHB some help!

But certainly DMac and Miller should be able to do something to get us in the endzone when he “dumps it off” to them, right?

  • Just Fire Baby

What other QB’s will make 4.5 next year?

    *****************************

Most of his peers in the QB rating department.

Guys like Kitna, Orton, Fitzpatrick, Alex Smith and Shaun Hill.

Campbell is sandwiched between that hot mess.

  • CDERaider

    139. That was from mini-camp and was after his draft preparations – he has def gained weight since then. Just watch the games – its easy to see he is not in the shape he needs to be in. He needs to look more like Patrick Willis or , cut and not fatiguing as the game goes on.

I do like him though and he can be a great one if he has the desire. Hopefully he’ll work with Biekert in the offseason and come back ready to kill and lead the team and league in tackles like we need him to.

  • J Hill

Being 12-2 and playing the Super Champs down to the final series with home-field advantage throughout the playoffs on the line,

    ——————————————————-

    Gotta luv Atl’s defense.

Even in a loss they hold the SB Chumps to under 20 pts.

Hire Atl’s DC as our next HC!

  • CDERaider

    149. Yeah but even on 1st and 2nd down when we’re in straight 4-3 they’re still having to make too many tackles

  • CDERaider

    144. Didn’t say bust – not even. Just need him to be much better if our D is going to get out of the cellar..

  • Just Fire Baby

But certainly DMac and Miller should be able to do something to get us in the endzone when he “dumps it off” to them, right?

    *******************************

I think that drive played right into what the Colts were willing to give.

He turned the 3 minute offense into a 6 minute offense, and the Colts were happy to oblige.

However, I said all week we would not be able to run the ball and would need to throw it 35+ times to win. We should have implemented that offense at some point in time in the 1st half, IMO.

  • RaiderRockstar

Guys like Kitna, Orton, Fitzpatrick, Alex Smith and Shaun Hill.

Campbell is sandwiched between that hot mess.

    ***

and Gradkowski is sandwiched in the Boller, Frye, Losman, Walter, Tui, Otis, O’Sullivan, McCown, Culpepper dept

  • Just Fire Baby

Hire some dude named Brian VanGorder!!!!

That D-line they have is nuts though. I especially like Abraham and his prison scalp tatoo’s.

We need guys on the D-line with tattoos on their temple!!!

  • J Hill

We should have implemented that offense at some point in time in the 1st half, IMO.

    ——————————————————

Of couse we should have, and you know that it would have given us the best chance to win. It is an offense that Campbell can execute with no problem. Mix in a few down the field passes to the WR like the one to Murphy you talked about, and that offense gives us 2 or 3 TDs a game, IMO.

  • RaiderRockstar

Gradkowski would be lucky to steal a #2 job away from guys like AJ Feeley, John Skelton, Troy Smith & Charlie Whitehurst in the awful NFC West!

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I3ng4yHw2xk&feature=PlayList&p=E565EF0DE2F587FA&playnext= Raider75

Time to blow it up again.

Look for a new HC next year.

  • Just Fire Baby

We shall see Rockstar, because I doubt Bruce will be back.

The guy is like a cockroach. 5th round pick, always hurt, bunch of teams in a few years, yet has always found a way to start at least one game a year.

Don’t be suprised to see him get a spot start or two somewhere next year.

  • J Hill

I think Gardowski should be resigned!

I’d take him over Boeller all day long!

    Bring Frye back too!

  • http://www.pro-football-reference.com/ KoolKell

No need to sign Gradkowski again, for what?

  • Just Fire Baby

I’m afraid Bruce is too much of a twinkle in the eye for Hue and Cable.

Like trying to teach your dog a new trick, while leaving their favorite chew toy right behind you.

They just aren’t going to focus at the task at hand, until you put the chew toy in another room (in this case another team).

  • Chris in NY

Absolutely bring Grads back. He’s waaaay better than Boller. Frye is a solid 3rd-stringer.

I’d like to see us upgrade over Campbell. He was much better over the second half of the season. He made some nice plays and had some pretty good games. I just feel like he left too much out there by being too slow and afraid to pull the trigger on passes down field. After several years in this league as a starting QB and Campbell still doesn’t grasp what “open” means in the NFL. It’s not like “college open” when you look for the receiver that’s 5-10 yards in the clear and you hit that one. “NFL open” means your guy has a step, or half a step, or just body position down the field and you put it in a spot where he has the best chance to get to it. Campbell just doesn’t attempt those throws. What good is a strong arm if all your passes are within 10 yards of the LOS?

Aside from that, and perhaps even more than that, we need a defensive coordinator to come in and have the ability to mix it up and call a more exotic defense that what we’ve seen. We need to confuse teams more and stop relying on the notion that we’re so physically superior to other teams that we can just dominate the other guys up and down the line of scrimmage so much that they have no hope against us. If that happens, great, but why not help the players make that happen by putting the element of surprise on their side and creating some confusion for the opposition? Why relinquish that ability?

  • Just Fire Baby

No need to sign Gradkowski again, for what?

    ************************

How about for the sole purpose of pissing you off?

I’m on board for that one.

  • eazy-e r-nation

call me crazy but i think if we add shaun hill he would be our next rich gannon. But our o line pass protection would need to be heavily upgraded because of hills mobility issues.

  • Just Fire Baby

Marshall has been more exotic, but he seems like he only blitzes on 3rd downs.

Worked the first half of the year, getting roasted since than.

A blitz is no good, if the team and QB see it coming from a mile away.

  • Chris in NY

I still maintain Gradkowski > Campbell.

If he could stay healthy I don’t know that it’s even close. With the injuries though he’s hard to count on as your No. 1 guy. Great backup though.

What I keep trying to tell “you people”, you need to put team & country before petty partisnship.

Winning Baby, that’s what it’s all about.

  • CDERaider

Boller is totall fine as the backup, he could even start and be decent – let Grads/Fry go and get a young guy in here to groom for the future – kind of liked that kid from Hawaii – Colt Brennan. Or go late round draft or FA.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I3ng4yHw2xk&feature=PlayList&p=E565EF0DE2F587FA&playnext= Raider75

Jerry seems to lean towards Al believing this was an underachieving team this year.

I agree. Weak schedule combined with wide open division had the Raiders in a prime spot.

Not mad at Cable, just think the Raiders can do better.

    See ya Cable Guy!

  • Just Fire Baby

I’m just screwing with you KoolKell.

You have been on my azz of late, not real happy about it.

  • Chris in NY

As far as QBs in the draft, particularly considering we don’t have a 1st-round pick, I really like Ricky Stanzi out of Iowa in the 3rd round.

  • http://no_knuckleheads! 909RaiderLifer

Al has contract option for another year with Cable..—per, Vittorio @ sfgate..

Hopefully we’ll find out sooner, rather than later if the chubby one stays or not..

But, with Al being Al. He’ll let everyone twist for awhile, us included..

What makes you say that? Boller has been awful everywhere including in his few brief appearances for us this season. He’s still around based on measurables and where he was drafted. Never been impressed with his decision-making nor accuracy.

Playing tonight in the Insight bowl.

The Mizzou QB he is facing, McShay said could be the #2 QB taken behind Luck.

Never heard of him, but I will be tuning in.

  • http://www.pro-football-reference.com/ KoolKell

Ah yeah, letting the fans, media, players twist in the wind for weeks ia all part of his enjoyment.

  • Chris in NY

If Hue goes to Cincy or elsewhere and we keep Cable, I think Josh McDaniels could be a nice pickup as the OC. Think about it, he had that offense humming last year through much of this year with Kyle Orton, Brandon Lloyd and Jabbar Gaffney. Think he couldn’t put McFadden, Ford, Miller, Bush, Murphy and others to good use with perhaps another QB he discovers/develops (like he did Cassel and Orton).

Not rooting for Hue to go, we just need to make sure that if he does this offense doesn’t go back into the dark ages of 10 ppg.

  • CDERaider

    174. Love Grads attitude but he is not the answer, even as a backup. He can’t stay healthy, even through camp – how many different body parts have been injured, like 5 ? in the last 2 years? His heroics in Pitt last year earned him alot of street cred, I think more than he deserved. This year he was 1-4 as a starter with 52.9 pct passing completion, 5td’s to 7int’s, and a 66.3 rating. Not good. He also got paid 1.7 million because of his 2nd round tender – before they signed Campbell. In contrast Campbell is 6-5 as a starter, 58.9 pct passing, 12td to 7ints with an 83.9 – not great but def better and he came off the bench in the first SD game to get the win so he should get 7-5 as a record.

JC is the starter next year. Boller is a good backup for little money – Boller is getting league minimum I believe. Lets keep those guys at QB, and start spending money on the OLine – where it needs to be spent. And a damn WR for God’s sake!! :-)

  • Just Fire Baby

I like the way the Falcons built their offense.

1st round pick at QB, two 1st round picks at WR, HOF TE, high-priced FA at RB, 1st round pick at LT, 7th round pick at C, two undrafted FA’s on the right side of the line.

    That’s how you do things.

  • http://no_knuckleheads! 909RaiderLifer

From the Sports page of my local fish wrap:

“It starts by winning the division. When you get swept by Oakland, you’re probably not going to get in.”—Phil Rivers.

I think that was some sort of backhanded compliment..

Remember a few years ago the Falcons were believed to be on their way to being bottom dwellers because Vick was sent to prison and Bill Parcells snubbed them for the Dolphins. It looked like they were on their way to several years of sucking but a smart owner who hired a good coach and drafted a great QB and acquired Turner in Free Agency built this club up the right way. Al should take notes!

  • Just Fire Baby

Philicia should be worrying about fumbling away TD’s and throwing picks against Oakland than coming up with some type of funny quote for the scribes.

He has done better than Grads has in the NFL for sure. First, he’s played many more games actually twice as many, and has better stats across the board. Boller was highly touted coming out of college and played well for the Ravens his first 2 seasons. If he hadn’t gotten hurt he was considered their guy of the future. Once he got hurt and Steve McNair came in and he was expendable. The Rams were terrible when he was there and if you watch the preseason games this year, he was very good. He’s big, strong, has a big arm, doesn’t have alot of wear and tear, and he is intelligent and well spoken.

Again, he’s just the backup. And I think he is more than capable of being the starter if need be.

The Grads experiment is over. He had his chance, he didn’t but it. We need to move on now.

  • http://www.pro-football-reference.com/ KoolKell

Kansas City was 4-12 last year, too. You need a management with vision, the same vision.

  • http://www.pro-football-reference.com/ KoolKell

Whatever momentum the Raiders will accrue this year, will be squandered by Al Davis’ 6 month Coaching Search.

  • alex7

Al will not let Hue go.

Hue was recruited by Al, brought in and given his first big career opportunity – turning a 30th-ranked offense around.

He did this despite having a QB ranked close to 30th in the league.

Al will give him what he wants, in order to keep him around.

Bottom line, Al does not respect his coaches the way he respects his players. We will not sign a great head Coach until he is ready to give them the power to make BIG changes.

Kansas City let a smart guy from New England come in and run the show.

To Al, that’s a crazy idea.

I loved Jerry’s reply about us running the ball more on Sunday.

“As long as you’re fine with running on second-and-12, third-and-9, and can live with the punt when you don’t get it.”

Some fools in here kept harping on the fact we only ran it about 20 times, ignoring we only ran like 45 plays the first 3 quarters, then threw it 18 of our final 20 plays while down 2 scores.
