Still no Seymour

No sign of Richard Seymour as the Raiders started practice earlier than usual Wednesday.

Everyone else was accounted for, including right tackle Langston Walker, who was wearing a helmet and appeared to be getting ready to work with the first team. Walker missed the Indianapolis game, still suffering from the effects of a concussion.

    Real Madden:

5 int’s… Current Superbowl record…. What more can be said??

    …………

Al Davis running Gruden out of town…and to Tampa, coincidentally.

The Raiders playing Charles Woodson on a bum ankle.

The Raiders hiding Barret Robbin’s problems under a rug for years, instead of addressing them.

Possibly the worst offensive gameplan in Super Bowl history.

Oh, and btw, it’s hard to say how much better we could have played in that game if Shaun Alexander or Keith Bulluck were in the lineup. But Al decided Jano was a better investment.

True…so true…goes back to Tom CAble’s Club Med approach.

Nope, he has been a fatty since he came into the league. All coaches have let him eat.. But I bet most of you on this blog are fatties too. Fat!

Coach Callahan’s lack of adjustment to the playbook when knowing he was playing a team that has a head coach that coached the Raiders the year before had just as much to do with the super bowl loss as Gannon’s poor judgement. The Bucs knew 1/2 the plays before they happened. print that!

  • J Hill

I sometimes find myself getting caught up in the whole Jano was a first round pick thing.

Then I remember it was late 1st rd, and if not him it would have been Jerry Porter in rd 1 and Seabass #2.

    Not that bigga deal.

    ====================================================
Ha, Ha, Ha….good point…but I am in better shape than Janikowski…I bet he couldn’t keep up with me in a conditioning drill…..but he is a better kicker making far more cash than I will make..so I guess he should consider it a spoonfull of advise from me.

He is overweight and out of shape…and it shows.

JFB, all of those numbers might justify signing a free agent kicker for a moderate amount, but not drafting him in the first round. A first round kicker wins games, period. He’s so good, you know all you have to do is keep the game within 3, like the Patiots did pretty much throughout their Super Bowl run.

Callahan was running Gruden’s Offense, period…
Chuckie coached two teams to the superbowl in the same year…Al dealt him so late, that Callahn couldn’t have changed the Offense , if he had one to channge it too…
John Lynch claims they new EVERY play we ran, you can hear him calling them out onthe NFL films…
    But it’s all Gannon’s fault…

The case made today to justify Jano’s first round pick was comical. You guys made a good argument justifying his employment in the league. He’s good enough to be an NFL kicker, but not good enough to be a first round pick. It was one of Al’s many blunders as GM of the Raiders. You guys are just in denial.

  • J Hill

I remember reading a post of Jerry Porter in training camp wearing a #2 jersey or something like that based on what rd he was drafted in. Might have been him wearing a #1 jersey …

Anyway, he was upset at being taken in the 2nd rd by the Raiders when he had been under the impression that he would be taken in the 1st rd. Gruden told him the owner wanted the kicker.

90% of the league might trade for Seabags ability,

What’s Jano’s salary, btw? If I came in as Raiders GM, first thing on the menu would be to do whatever I could to wash away the embarrassment of my organization having wasted a first round draft pick on him 10 years ago. He’s still capable. But a game winner he’s not. I’d give him a choice between taking a cut down to the median NFL kicker salary, or a bus ticket.

If stats are to be used to determine that Jason Campbell is the best Raiders QB since Gannon, then why shouldn’t they be used to determine that Rich Gannon is the 2nd best passer in Raiders history? Because that’s what the numbers say.

  • CDERaider

Reasons the Queefs are going to the playoffs and not the Raiders.

    1) Their OLine is better.

    2) Running Game – DMac is as good as Charles but they got more from Jones than we got from Bush and they were able to run more consistently. This has alot to do with #1.

    3) Legit goto WR – we have nothing to compare to what Bowe is doing over there.

    4) Run D is much better – 30-40 yds a game better plus don’t give up the big play.

Cable will be back. The marching orders are obvious. Go to work in the offseason and focus on Run D upgrades (LB’s especially), a true #1 WR, and make Oline upgrade the #1 priority. Gallery, Carlisle, Walker gone as starters. Replace with BCampbell at RT + 2 new starting guards. Make a splash in the offseason and sign a pro bowl caliber Guard and draft an instant starter in round 3 to go with our young guys. Satelle is serviceable.

Here the Chiefs were dreading this game all year, considering what happened the last time they played us. But leave it to the Raiders to blow a couple of games they should have won, and now the Chiefs get a free pass. The story of Al Davis’s life.

  • r8rwill

jerry porter sucked, and it had nothing to do with how he was drafted..sebastian janokowski best raiders kicker ever. hall of fame career. do you think he should make every kick?

    …………

Considering we blew a first round pick on him? YES!

  • r8rwill

condo, lechler and jano are money!……again!

  • garcia

I see Woodson and D.Hall both made the Pro Bowl. Hall was beyond awful against Denver but I still find it hard to believe that with millions of dollars and a couple of draft picks involved we gave up on him so quickly. If nothing else, with his tackling ability and ball hawking he could have been the best nickel back in the league.

  • r8rwill

we have many things to fix, the kicking game isn’t one

  • garcia

By the way, why all the hate on Jano. He didn’t draft himself in the 1st and who cares about his salary, Al pays it, not us. It would also be very easy to make the point that with the exception of Asomugha, and possibly McFadden, he’s the best 1st round pick the Raiders had this century. Of the 31 1st round picks that year there’s only 6-7 of them left in the league so the return on that investment isn’t that bad after all.

  • r8rwill

jano is worth every bit of that first round pick, and he is still at the top of his game…59 yards on a cold, rainy heavy air day from a mud puddle,,and he had room to spare..dude is money.. you can spin it any way you want

  • raidertalk

I think ppl get frustrated that Jano is the highest paid kicker. Esp when he is mediocre at best in the clutch and his kickoffs are getting shorter by the day.

Look at the Mia, Jax, Ariz and yes even the Colts game, how big would the kick before the half have been? JC drove us into FG range to see Jano miss it when it could have totally changed the game esp toward the end.

But if you like meaningless long FGs once and a while and high scoring out of a kicker who can’t help you win games than Jano is 1st round talent

  • priesttj

Truth is this is a QB starved league, great QB’s aren’t walking the street with nothing to do. You have to be in the right place st the right time and even then the guy may not pan out. IMO JC is already in the top half of the league. I’d bet that most in here wohuld consider Eli Manning a great QB because they won a SB. Well IMO if JC had the same team and system around him as long he’d probabaly be better.

I was somewhat impressed with his lastr outting and it wasn’t anything worth wrting home about in fact it was rather ordinary. Buyt what he did is kept us in it by not turning the ball over and causeing the game to get out of control. If we scould’ve broke a few tackles or big gains we could’ve won. The Indy defense tackled better than we did and won that game.

The RB’s weren’t special at all but they got and extra 5 yards almost everytime on bad tackling. On the other hand they got our guys on the ground. We went away from the run much faster than we shguld as usual with 17 carries for 2 great backs in a tight game. When you take the ball out of those two HB hands and start throwing you better hit on some big plays because they are your bread and butter. We just seem to think we have Lerry Fitzgerald at WR as well Roddy White. It’s DUMB IMO to go away from your best players and try to win. But we do it consistently.

Our record is 7-8 and I gaurantee you those 7 wins we ran at least 35x’s each game. The loses we average less than 20 between those two HB’s. Which begs the question WHY??????
