No changes

Defensive tackle Richard Seymour was absent Thursday while running back Darren McFadden and tackle Langston Walker were going through the walkthrough portion of practice as if they would participate.
That’s what happened Wednesday as well, although McFadden (toe/ankle) and Walker (concussion) were listed as having not particpated.
Coach Tom Cable said Wednesday Seymour’s status probably wouldn’t be determined until Friday or Saturday.

I really dont think we should get rid of Cable.
December 30th, 2010 at 10:24 am
we need Seymour!
John Henderson is great for 20 snaps, but any more than that and he’s flat out GASSED with only Desmond Bryant left in the rotation
and Houston inside means Jarvis Moss outside (puke)
December 30th, 2010 at 10:24 am
I really think we should get rid of Cable….as long as the replacement isn’t Art Shell, Rob Ryan, Joe Bugel or Mike White….or Sanjay Lal
December 30th, 2010 at 10:25 am
I really dont think we should get rid of Cable
***
if we do, he’s going 7-9 with the Broncos and Tim Tebow with a sweep over Oakland
Hue Jackson = 4-12 HC
December 30th, 2010 at 10:26 am
RR…
Ok. But my money is on Hue as HC, Cable let go. Especially if hue is courted by Cincinnati. Tom Cable wont be an NFL HC elsewhere.
Look at how many coaching changes are gonna happen for 2011, and how many big names are likely to return, and how many recently let go HCs could be in the interview circuit…
Parcells, Cowher, Gruden, Lewis, Kubiak, Garrett, Frazier, Sparano, Coughlin, Phillips, etc. Cable is not a hot commodity in that field.
December 30th, 2010 at 10:26 am
Cable is the glue to this team rite now.. Every1 on that team wants Cable back. If you get rid of cable you have players starting to lose faith.
December 30th, 2010 at 10:28 am
No1 is going to be able to put up with Al Davis like Cable does… The worst thing to do is to get rid of Cable
December 30th, 2010 at 10:30 am
…Fox, Harbaugh (to add a couple more).
December 30th, 2010 at 10:34 am
…Fisher, McDaniels (to add even more)
December 30th, 2010 at 10:39 am
We should keep Hue, replace Marshall, and try to upgrade the HC position. If there are no better options than Cable, then we should keep him.
Great options:
1- Harbaugh
2- Gruden
3- Sparano (if he gets fired)
Good Options:
1- Del Rio
2- Frazier
3- M Lewis
4- Kubiac
December 30th, 2010 at 10:40 am
Fisher wants more control than Gruden, so there is no way he works with Al.
December 30th, 2010 at 10:40 am
Does anyone know what alternate level DMAC was given for the Pro Bowl? I know Jerry-mac reported it was not disclosed. I know that Peyton Hillis is the second alternate for AFC RB.
From all accounts, JD will miss his second consecutive game due to a knee injury, and it is ebing reported that he will need off-season surgery on the knee. Now, he very well may be able to play ing the Pro Bowl before surgery, but maybe not.
I’m hoping DMAC is the first alternate, because he’d have a good shot at playing in the Pro Bowl. My guess is CJ is the first alternate, Hillis second, and DMAC third with Mendenhall and Ray Rice 4th and 5th.
December 30th, 2010 at 10:42 am
I’d love Harbaugh but besides that theres no other coach that would really work with Al Davis
December 30th, 2010 at 10:42 am
Raiders at Chiefs
Florio’s take: Anyone who thinks this game is meaningless doesn’t understand the depth of the rivalry between the franchises. The Chiefs need to maintain momentum, and they’d love to atone for close loss in Oakland from earlier in the year. The Raiders are on their way, but they’re not yet ready to win at Arrowhead.
Florio’s pick: Chiefs 20, Raiders 13.
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
Has this dumbfk ever watched a Raider-Chiefs game? Jamarcus kicked KC’s ass at Arrowhed the last two years. And Culpepper beat them there in 2007. THREE STRAIGHT FLORIO!
December 30th, 2010 at 10:42 am
McDaniels is a good OC but he is not a HC.
He traded his best QB and WR, and drafted a QB & WR in the 1st RD!?!? No thank you!
December 30th, 2010 at 10:44 am
I know there’s talk out there about Hue Jackson being a HC candidate, but I just don’t see it. He’s been an offensive coordinator with playcalling responsibilities for one year in the NFL. That’s it. He didn’t call plays in Washington, nor did he call plays in Atlanta. Teams evaluating him are going to look at that, as well as the uneven performances by the offense this year and the way the QB situation was handled.
He’s made it clear that he wants to be a HC someday, and I understand that people will look at stats and say that we should worry that it may happen right away. I for one don’t think he has the track record yet to be a serious candidate for any HC job and don’t think he’s going anywhere just yet. Cable has gotten the team to play hard, Hue has gotten the offense on the right track and hopefully we can build on that if there is a season next year. Personally, I would be more concerned about the defense this offseason than anything else.
December 30th, 2010 at 10:47 am
I’d love to see Al offer a huge HC contract to Harbaugh just to keep him from going to the 49ers.
I don’t think Harbaugh wants this job, though.
December 30th, 2010 at 10:48 am
I hope KC or SD will hire McDaniels as their HC. He will trade Rivers and Gates, or he can trade Matt and Bowe.
December 30th, 2010 at 10:48 am
Marvin Lewis would be a nice fit for DC, but something tells me he’ll have a lot of better offers on the table. If not HC jobs, then a DC job that pays better.
December 30th, 2010 at 10:49 am
Del Rio would also be a great HC/DC option, but chances are he’ll stick in Jacksonville.
I’d love to see John Fox as DC, but he’s not exactly falling all over himself trying to get back to Oakland…
December 30th, 2010 at 10:49 am
Florio is absolutely right about the Chiefs being up for this game. They want to let it be known that they are AFC West champions, and as a young team going to the playoffs for the first time in a long while are going to need to go in feeling good about their team.
Anyone that thinks KC is going to lay down at home for the Raiders is in for a very rude awakening.
December 30th, 2010 at 10:49 am
I agree ET. He needs to improve his resume.

“There is a firm belief among NFL insiders — and some folks at Stanford — that Baalke will be able to deliver Jim Harbaugh to be the 49ers’ head coach,” Maiocco writes.
Harbaugh coaches his final game for Stanford on January 3, and there is speculation that the 49ers will move quickly to hire him. Our pals at CFT write that Harbaugh won’t talk about possible NFL jobs in the buildup to the Orange Bowl. But he didn’t deny interest.
“I don’t want to put a timeline on it,” Harbaugh said when asked about making a decision about his future.
ESPN’s John Clayton believes the 49ers fired Mike Singletary after Week 16 in part to get a headstart on pursuing Harbaugh.

The 5 Kids from Ohio State are not declaring for the draft.
December 30th, 2010 at 11:14 am
A new coach WON’T be able to choose his staff. So no coach that has options is going to pick Oakland.
A new coach would have to work with Al Davis and his significant input on roster, scheme etc…..So no coach that has options is going to pick Oakland.
A new coach would want to be paid. Al Davis generally underpays coaches relative to the market.
Tom Cable is the best coach for Oakland because of the way Al Davis runs the team. Hue Jackson would be a good candidate because he’s been in the system for a year.
Otherwise, talk of Harbaugh or any well-regarded candidate is just idle talk..
December 30th, 2010 at 11:15 am
Very true SNB….. Im hoping Al decides he wants a new DC
December 30th, 2010 at 11:16 am
The Raiders don’t deserve to be picked to win in all of their games. They are so up and down and inconsistent each week, how can an unbiased person just pick the Raiders in a prediction
December 30th, 2010 at 11:17 am
I like it when were not picked to win because then we usually do win…Everytime were the favorite in a game we get steam rolled
December 30th, 2010 at 11:18 am
PurpleDrank81,
Exactly, you just said it all
“Im hoping AL DECIDES he wants a new DC”
December 30th, 2010 at 11:19 am
Cable needs to go? What is that based on? A quarterback can take a coach a long way. Look at the playoff teams and tell me what good coach has just an average quarterback….Rex Ryan and Todd Haley, that’s it. Jets are in cause of their defense, run game, and taking care of the football, and the same can be said about the chiefs. Give Campbell another year, Marshall can be upgraded, but the Cable talks are ridiculous.
December 30th, 2010 at 11:19 am
we really cant make a call on cable till the final game. that’s when we start the Poll for a new coach..then the draft …then our regural season record…

We’ll see if Harbaugh wants to go and take over that mess in SF.
They will have to give him plenty of money and a good QB.
He might like the situation because he may think he can compete right away in the crappy NFC West also.
I don’t see Harbaugh going to Niners though….especially if Luck stays at Stanford.
Harbaugh may want to wait a year for the collective bargaining agreement issues to be resloved with the NFL first before jumping to the pros also

I think Q Groves has been a terrible addition too. He is still completely lost out there even after 15 games
WLB with a grand total of 36 tackles The LB that we all thought was afraid of contact (T. Howard) had 79 tackles last year. Over 2 times as many
How about this stat for our great LB trio
McClain, Groves and Wimbley all year 1 FORCED FUMBLE & 1 PICK
Check this out: Ricky Brown and Jon Condo 3 FORCED FUMBLES and 0 Picks
How about them apples

It’s the truth.. We have a couple ppl in hear saying fire cable and pick up a new coach with a nice winnig recored but they dont realize no coach like that will ever coach for the raiders. If Hue Jackson tells the old man, he wants to leave for a HC job, then the old man needs to tell Hue that he will get rid of Cable and hire him as the new HC instead.
Hue will get rid of some of the dead weight coaches on staff also like Lal, and maybe even Fassel and he may even hire a new D-Coordinator as an upgrade to Marshall.

There is no call to make on Cable.
Cable is the perfect head coach for THIS team. He’s the motivator, rah-rah, semi-discipline guy.
He’s not X’s and O’s and he know where he stands in this organization.
The Owner picks the coordinators…LOL..most head coaches are not going to tolerate that. At least let the HC pick ONE coordinator…and the Special Teams guy doesn’t count
December 30th, 2010 at 11:27 am

————————
O, my bearded friend — It’s easy to TALK about replacing coaches with others, but it’s a lot harder replacing them with better options than people want to admit. Half of the coaches you mention are terrible ideas, and there are some disastrous HC examples among them.
M Lewis as HC of the Raiders?? Gag.
Harbaugh?? Ask Pete Carroll how the NFL compares to NCAA.
Sparano?? Seems to be cut from the same coaching cloth as Cable…
Marshall had a few shortcomings this year…and HueJax had a few…and Cable had a few. From all appearances, it would seem that Cable’s shortcomings were less obvious than the other guys’ this season. Also, it’s obvious the players responded quite well to the approaches all three men took to coaching the team this year.
There is a definite vibe in Alameda…not Tom Cable’s vibe, but a TEAM vibe. When a deflated team, eliminated from the Playoffs, still talks about Pride and optimism and taking the next big step…instead of despair and blame and backstabbing…there’s a lot to be said about that team’s COLLECTIVE character.
The Raiders actually believe they can win games again. The 2010 Raiders are battlers to the end, and as long as they can get a season’s worth out of a single, proficient QB, the 2011 Raiders will be in the Playoffs (if there are any).
THE BEST OPTION AT HEAD COACH FOR THE 2011 RAIDERS IS ALREADY THEIR HEAD COACH.

Agreed.
If Harbaugh or Gruden can’t be had here in Oakland, and if Hue says he wants to bolt for a head coaching gig, then old man Al needs to say adios to Cable and hire Hue as Head Coach.
Then Hue should try and upgrade the D-Coordinator position. John Fox would be a good fit.
December 30th, 2010 at 11:33 am
The Jets should have been the model for the Raiders this year.
But Al Davis won’t allow it.
December 30th, 2010 at 11:35 am
Hayes good post. I think Cable has done what he said he would do. He said he would get the team into a new mode and change the attitude. He has done that and has started winning. He said we would be in contention for the playoffs and we were. We had some tough breaks and missed opportunities, but the team played harder than they have since I can recall.
What we need is continuity. This is why most of us have been critical of Al. No team feeling and no coach who the team played for and held his ground with both Al, the players and “stayed the course”. This is what we need to do here.
We need to retain Hue and Cable ….they need to finish the job.
Get a new DC because Marshall has done nothing.
December 30th, 2010 at 11:37 am
If I’m not mistaken, Raider players all plead for Joe Bugel to continue as well. Led by Tim Brown, no?
December 30th, 2010 at 11:39 am
More regarding a DC. It probably won’t matter too much who it is, just as long as we have somebody who is a teacher and motivator. We know we’ll be playing the same D as always. Now we just need an extra shut down CB or it will be the same crap.
December 30th, 2010 at 11:39 am
Those Raiders had no experience with Bugel as HC for 2+ seasons.
THIS Raiders team is playing at a different level, and has a more mature outlook on things.
Tim Brown? He just wanted to be spoiled. C’mon, KK.
December 30th, 2010 at 11:41 am
I’m just sayin!
December 30th, 2010 at 11:42 am
Critical fans need to realize that the Raiders are unique. They’re not run like other teams. The Raiders don’t go out and try to win Super Bowls. It’s not their thing. They have a system that they believe in, no matter what the results, and they find the players to fit that system, and a coach who can motivate those players. If said players and coaches fail, they’ll be replaced, but the system won’t. Coaches are typically the first to be replaced. It’s the Raiders’ system, and it’s going to be that way until Al dies.
December 30th, 2010 at 11:43 am
KOOL. Cable did what he said he was going to do. Looks like the players are committed to him and are putting in the effort.
Looks like Cable can deal with Al. Looks like Cable has us all talking playoffs instead of turmoil.
He (and Hue) made mistakes with the QB situation, but we learned that Jason is the man for now.
This team needs to stay on track and avoid sinking back into turmoil and negativity.
If they like Cable and play hard for him and Hue has the O under control then we are going in the right direction.
December 30th, 2010 at 11:43 am

What a surprise, another Raider fan dissing a Raiders’ all time leader, in this case all time receiving leader. You’d think a fan base of a team that prides itself on passing would have a little more praise for the franchise’s all time leading receiver. I’m a Raider fan and I like most Raider fans, but some of you have this bizarre knack to throw great Raider players and coaches of the past under the buss. I never got it.
December 30th, 2010 at 11:47 am
JMarshall is doing a fine job right where he is. What mistakes he made this year in play-calling/schemes are all fixable.
Marshall’s got the keys to a theoretical “supercar” — and they tend to run a little rough sometimes…but when they purr, they roar. This Raiders Defense could be one of the best Defenses we’ve ever had…as early as next year.
Now is not the time to shake loose of Marshall, or change the DC’s approach. He’s just figuring out how to use all the tools at his disposal…and it’s only going to get better as this young D matures.
December 30th, 2010 at 11:48 am
I don’t know if it’s wise to give Al and Cable more credit for our improvement this year than Ford and McFadden. I’d give the Raiders management credit for acquiring them, but that’s about as far as it goes. Truth is, we improved this year with big plays out of those 2, not Cable.

Your ridiculous idea was flawed from the get.
December 30th, 2010 at 12:08 pm
Ha! Jacoby and McFadden get the credit and not the coaches, yea that’s a good one RMR. So according to your GM theory, with your foundation players, and no quarterback who really cares about you? What did you even do, watch tape, scout, and then draft them? Big deal.
December 30th, 2010 at 12:08 pm
Agenda…like how you state the same flammatory BS over and over (like right now with the “under the bus” BS…just to get a rise from somebody, to justify your existence here?
Your agenda is what, then? Not the Raiders, the players, the coaches, the organization…what??
Oh, yeah…your agenda is…YOU. Without this blog, and the people who give you any attention at all, you’d be completely lost. I’ve got stuff to do, lonesome….find someone else to play tag with.
December 30th, 2010 at 12:09 pm
80. Didn’t say he wasn’t worth building franchise around just thought the idea of firing all but four players and all the coaches for a guy who’s had one year without injury..OH WAIT…
December 30th, 2010 at 12:09 pm
Wow. Look at the Raider fans just tear our greatest players apart today. Friends like these…huh?
December 30th, 2010 at 12:09 pm
NOT to say Davis didn’t act like a f’in baby but in the end its Al’s world.
————————————–
Exactly, otherwise the Raiders’s would be 9-5 right now.
December 30th, 2010 at 12:10 pm
No Quarterback? Uh, I think I would draft one. We don’t have a QB so we’d have to start from scratch anyway. Did you guys even understand that comment? I meant I would keep those 4 players, and REPLACE the rest, not take the field with 4 actual players. LOL. You guys can’t be that stupid.
December 30th, 2010 at 12:13 pm
I don’t think Tom Cable is all that good of a coach. Or at least this year.
This team was grossly unprepared before key games and the bye week was a disgrace.
The team gets outcoached and outschemed.
But despite all that..he’s the best coach for this team
December 30th, 2010 at 12:13 pm
Marcus Allen’s biggest problem with the Raiders?? One Vincent “Bo” Jackson.
Even before Marcus Allen told the Raiders to F-off, he told the Raiders to F’-off. Why should any Raiders fan give a shot about Marcus? He’s a farging Chief.
December 30th, 2010 at 12:14 pm
Right you would draft a rookie quarterback with 48 other rookies and hope and pray (because coaches are nothing in your world) each and every one is a star.
December 30th, 2010 at 12:14 pm
Hayez, as far as I know your agenda today is to bash the Raiders all time leading receiver. When you consider Tim Brown’s numbers, it’s arguable that without him, we would have been 4-12 in ‘94, ‘95 and ‘96, as well as ‘97. Tim Brown was our safe place in those mediocre years. A go to receiver if there ever was one, one of the best possession receivers to play the game. But keep bashing him. It says a lot about what kind of fan you are.
December 30th, 2010 at 12:15 pm
88. You’re the only one who took it to mean you’d only have 4 guys take the field no one else. Its clear you are a special needs person or simply desperate for some kind of human contact other than from your care provider.
Either way take care, enjoy the day and go Raiders.
December 30th, 2010 at 12:17 pm
Marcus Allen was a great running back before Bo Jackson and after Bo Jackson. Marcus is in the hall of fame, Bo isn’t, and will never be. Marcus Allen is arguably the best player in NFL history to have in your backfield on 3rd and short, and that’s been said by several coaches and players. The only people who don’t like Marcus Allen are these same Raider fans who are always bashing former Raider greats. What a bizarre bunch.
December 30th, 2010 at 12:19 pm
MR proving he’s as immature as we already know he is…
…in his kindergarten world, he keeps 4 players, and simply “replaces” +/-50 players.
Where do these players come from? Do we get 7 picks per round in the next draft? Do we get to raid other teams for talent? Even if we had 7 picks per round in 2011, those rookies would transform into world-beaters in 3 years?
Amazingly childish statements…from an amazingly immature know-it-all troll hater.

Hayez, I just find it bizarre that so many Raider fans throw all time franchise leaders and great former coaches under the buss like they were nothing. I’ll never get it. But go ahead, keep insulting the team’s all time leading receiver, “fan”.
^^^^^^^
Yeah, they are weirdos, trolls or Niner fans posing as Raider fans. LOL
December 30th, 2010 at 12:20 pm
Always a great day to be a Raider fan
December 30th, 2010 at 12:20 pm
Anybody who was around, knows Marcus Allen carried the Raiders for years, with style.
Despite:
Mark Wislon
Jay Schroeder
Jim Plunkett
December 30th, 2010 at 12:21 pm
If it’s a great day to be a Raider fan, Hayez, show some love for some of these great Raider players of the past who’ve contributed heavily to that all time franchise record you guys love to boast about. Without Tim Brown and Marcus Allen, believe me, it wouldn’t be a great day to be a Raider fan. It’s likely the franchise would have gone under by now.

No Changes…Al Davis is still alive.
December 30th, 2010 at 12:24 pm
89. Hard to argue with that. He is pretty green but yeah, there were problems. Personell descisions and player rotations were a problem this year too at certain points and hurt in some key critical situations.
Cable’s a work in progress but if he can get us some consistency on the O line were in business. Finding a RT is theoretically easier than a LT. Velds a rook, Satele’s had games where he’s gotten it, Bruce Campbell could come on line too.
Consistency could begin to finally pay off.
December 30th, 2010 at 12:26 pm
Come to think of it, Hayes and GoodOle, the Raiders probably could win 8 games, just like they might win this year, with the 4 players I mentioned and 49 walk ons. LOL. It is what it is.
December 30th, 2010 at 12:34 pm
I’ll go out on a limb and credit the 2 extra wins we got this year (over last year’s total), to Ford, McFadden, Asomugha and Z. Miller. And I might even throw Gradkowski in there to, for his win against St. Louis. Take the other 48 players and replace them with walk ons, and I think you get the same result. LOL. Sorry, but it’s true.

Florio is a freakin moron!

So whats the deal with McFadden is it turf toe or is it ankle injury
December 30th, 2010 at 1:18 pm
Looking at Walter Mock Draft for 2011. They say we take Nate Solder OT 6′8″ 315# 4.89/40 in the 2nd round and Chris O’Dowd C 6′4″ 300# 5.16/40 in the 3rd round. Damn, I certainly hope he’s right. That would be two outstanding and needed player positions. We could then put BCampbell in at RG and our O-line should no longer be part of the problem.
December 30th, 2010 at 1:23 pm
Nate Solder wont fall to the 2nd……
December 30th, 2010 at 1:27 pm
Bruce Campbell????? He’s not reliable at all. Not even activated this year…you guys think he’s a secret weapon?
They need RT and RG in free agency or draft
December 30th, 2010 at 1:38 pm
I’d rather go through free agency because the draft isnt that stacked with linemen this year…

And…possibly a C. If Satele goes out Veldheer has to fill in. That means M. Henderson plays LT.
December 30th, 2010 at 1:47 pm
Satele actually didnt play bad this year… If we can snag up a center in the draft then so be it but Satele has had a pretty good year..
December 30th, 2010 at 1:52 pm
Florio meant the Raiders aren’t ready to win in KC this year (despite their improvement). Weird you didn’t realize that. He’s also right.
December 30th, 2010 at 1:55 pm
I agree, Satele has improved and had a good year. I just don’t like having Veldheer as the back up center, he’s had a good rookie year at LT and I’d like for him to stay there.
December 30th, 2010 at 1:57 pm
A back up center would be cool
December 30th, 2010 at 1:58 pm
Drank,
I agree on Satele. He is very similar to Jason Campbell and the entire team.
Solid vs mediocre talent.
Struggles mightily vs top teams.
As long as he’s the anchor, we will continue to struggle against teams like the Steelers, Rams, Dolphins, and Colts.
Gets pushed backwards waaaay too much on passing plays.
December 30th, 2010 at 2:25 pm
Not sure how Jamarcus kicked KC’s azz in Arrowhead
Going 6 of 17 for 55 yards and than 7 of 24 for 109 yards without any TD’s is hardly kicking azz.
If anything, his awful performances caused us to not be able to blow them out like we should have and rest players, thus costing us wins the following week.
December 30th, 2010 at 2:37 pm

“We didn’t improve fast enough,” (Hue) Jackson said. “We want perfection. That’s what I expect from our football team. We expect to be challenging for the playoffs, challenging for our division year in and year out and we’re not getting that done. So to me, that’s a disappointment. There’s either first place or there’s last place and there’s no in between.”

Not so sure about that. You might be giving that guy too much credit. I think Florio IS an idiot regardless, but saying the Raiders might not win at KC is far from some brazen prediction from a sooth saying prognosticator.
December 30th, 2010 at 5:13 pm
biggest blunder is linebacker core. shoulda kept morrison as OLB or at least played howard more. These hybrid DE types didn’t amount to much. Plus it seemed that Campbell was slow to learn offense, thus the change to Grads. Still I see progress and hope

Is it just me or does it feel like Seymore has just checked out on this season once the playoffs were off the table?
Cable is gonna need all the help he can get to make sure this not a losing season.
