Raiders give 49ers OK to talk to Jackson
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Tuesday, January 4th, 2011 at 1:10 pm in Oakland Raiders.
The Raiders have given the 49ers the OK to talk to offensive coordinator Hue Jackson about their head coaching position, according to a team executive.
“The 49ers asked and Al said yes,” senior executive John Herrera said. “He’s happy for Hue.’

Why aren’t the 49ers interested in Cable? Why isn’t ANYONE interested in Cable? Are they just stupid? Don’t they see what he’s done for the Raiders? Or…do they know something we don’t? Like that maybe Cable had very little to do with the Raiders improvement? No way! They’re stupid! Stupid idiots!!!!

They have no intention of signing Hue. It is a ploy to satisfy the rooney rule without flying a guy in.

Most interesting tidbit of the just concluded chat:
If you missed it, someone said to Jerry they heard a Greg Papa interview on the radio where he was talking up Harbaugh endlessly and didn’t seem to think much of Cable. Jerry responded “Papa has the ear of the owner. Listen between the lines.”
My speculation: Al’s gonna go full tilt after Harbaugh these next two weeks til January 18th and if he fails to get land him (and I’m about 99.9 percent sure he won’t), he’ll make his decision between Cable and Jackson.
My guess: Jackson is announced as the Raiders’ head coach on January 19th.

He lead Bethel High School (Hampton, Virginia) to state championship playing QB.

HuJack’s production this last year as an OC had a lot of flaws. He certainly has a lot more to learn and improve upon as the OC. He would not survive as a HC under AD. They both have strong personalities and no doubt would clash. That’s where Cable comes in. He can effectively buffer AD from HJ and can take AD criticism without blinking an eye. Right now, it’s a good marriage for all parties concerned. AD can continue running the show overall, HJ can control the day to day offense and Cable keeps all the combatants in their respective corners without anybody’s feelings getting hurt. Additionally, it appears that Cable has the support of the team and assumes the roll of head cheerleader. All thing things bode well for continued improvement going forward. Nobody is going to offer HuJack a HC job at this point in time. So, we should just keep things as is and make the upgrades and acquisitions necessary to continue our path to the playoffs and eventual SB.

Idiotic post of the day!! Hugh Jackson walked in the door and doubled our offensive output. And he did it despite subpar talent at QB and WR. The guy evaluated our talent and designed an offense that played to our strenghts with great success. Couple that with the fact that he’s credited with the development of Joe Flacco and it’s no wonder he’s in demand. Have you seen the guy’s quotes or seen him interviewed? I’m keeping my fingers crossed that he doesn’t get an offer and accept. If you don’t think other teams didn’t take

Al’s going to wait till the last minute to make a decision. By that point. Hue will be gone and Cable will be the only guy left to take the job. This is okay with me since the players seem to respond to him, but they will definitly have to get a top notch OC with 100% play calling and the same style of offense as Hue to keep the momentum going.
The JaMarcus years are throw aways and shouldnt be counted against Cable. No one could improve with that QB.
Consider this his first real year and its not a bad start. I’d try and keep it all intact and add some improvments on the right side o-line, receivers, and secondary.
January 4th, 2011 at 1:37 pm
Man I can’t wait for Al to Fire Cable and hire another new coach that has no idea how to deal with Al or the players. Can’t wait for him to hire another Norv, Bugel, or Kiffin. That would take us from 8-8 to 12-4 with homefield advantage in the playoffs.

Most coaches are sitting tight. This is good news for things to stay the same. It also lends more creedence to to the lockout,
SF wont hire Hue unless he really really wows them.
Lots of good coaches out there. I think Gruden and Cowher were looking for some excellent oppurtunities but the odds are dropping by the hour.
I would rather see Harbourgh got to SF then dungver.
January 4th, 2011 at 1:39 pm
McDaniels could backfill for HuJack if necessary. I don’t think HuJack is going anywhere. York is just screwing with AD. Niners go with an experienced HC if the can’t get Harbaugh. No more newbies for them. Singletary was enough.

January 4th, 2011 at 1:40 pm
Speaking of Brett, what are the odds of Al siging him next year?
January 4th, 2011 at 1:41 pm
STOP THE INSANITY!
If Al was such a football ‘genious’ why did it take him 7 years of blundering through season after season to get where we are now? Coaching and his woody for big ‘me’ names. No radical changes will help this team. You ever been in a locker room when a new coach comes in and starts his yap on how this is gonna be blah blah blah. Thats what it sounds like.
Finally, we have a bit of consistency, something players cherish, need, and all this talk of letting Cable or Hue go is nuts. Just upgrade a couple of key spots (the lines i.e.) and we are good to battle.
Those 5 ints. gannon threw really must put Al in a funk, because this season finally erased that in my mind. If Al has any gray matter left in that skull of his, he’ll ink his coaches asap and let them get to right work. Quit playing games Al. You got a good thing underway here, finally.
Another point: no bona fide coach is coming to Oakland. Ask yourself one serious question: Why would they? One thing for sure you can bank, Al won’t pay anything above the minimum for a HC.
I don’t beleive a work out of hererras pie hole.
January 4th, 2011 at 1:42 pm
Gumby has some moves for sure. I especially like the one where he catches a punt and runs sideways out of bounds. He is hands down the finest east – west sideways runner I have ever seen. And who could forget the masterful o.b. method he displayed on Kickoffs……

Why would anyone come to Oakland for a pay cut? Harbaugh is doin just fine at Stanford. Why would he ever leave?
It looked like Al shook off some of the crust this year, with a good draft. He needs to remind himself of that, and not get to hasty like he’s done in the past.
January 4th, 2011 at 2:19 pm
I wish the rest of the league would just start signing lousy puppet coaches, bringing in quarterbacks with nothing more than an arm, and use man defense all of the time. Then Al Davis could be “unique” by bringing in QB with pocket awareness and a brain, a real head coach who will build an empire, and a versatile defense that can adapt to any offense.
January 4th, 2011 at 2:20 pm
At the end of the day, the old man had one heck of a draft this year. The last 2 years have been awesome. DHB was a mistake but the other guys more than make up for it.
January 4th, 2011 at 2:21 pm
They don’t make up for it because if we’d drafted Crabtree instead of Bey, the Raiders would be a playoff team this year. Having a possession receiver would fill a huge void on our offense.

Al Davis is a cancer. Basically, our head coach needs to work as chemo treatment. He has to try as hard as he can to get rid of the cancer. Otherwise, the cancer prevails.

He could even stay there two years.
Just watched the VA. T. again.
Luck is something special and he clearly has a close rapport with Harbaugh.
There was a time when Al Davis was know for pulling off amazing things.
They called Al the “genius” long before that was applied to Bill Walsh.
Here’s your chance to leave ‘em with their mouths open one more time Al!
You want Harbaugh? Get Harbough!
Or is John York greater than Al Davis?
I’ve got a strong feeling that if you get Harbaugh, your chances dramatically improve on getting Luck even if it isn’t this year.

Wouldn’t that be something if gruden were across the bay? I really beleive that would haunt Al. He’d probably lose sleep over that. In a way I feel gruden will never coach again because his heart is in Oakland.
He would coach in Oakland, but nowhere else.

Really??? Who’s the ignorant one? 2 first rounders 2 second rounders and 8 Million for a coach. That was the steal of the century. If they wouldn’t have drafted so lousy they’d be talking about that for the next 100 years. That is 8 players in the first 2 rounds. Should be 8 starters. No one in their right mind could ve ever passed that up.
Gruden wouldve been in the same boat. The reason Oakland went into the tank is cause they were old. Al needed those draft picks to rebuild. He made the absolute right move but blew it in the draft. Cannot fault al for that chess move. It was the way to go.

Publicly Gruden only says nice things about the Raiders….it is the smart way to go…he is a politically astute guy….but what does he say behind closed doors?
Sean Peyton gave us a glimpse of what Gruden really thinks about the Raiders when he stated in his book the Gruden was one of the people (along with Parcells, Callahan and John Fox) that steered him away from the Oakland job. That tells you what you need to know about what Gruden thinks of Al Davis and the Raiders.
Al was close to landing Sean Peyton….Al has an eye for young coaching talent….yet you guys want to keep treading water with Mr. 28-62? LMAO

Mike Mitchell contributed plenty this year against Gates and other TE’s. Shonasty contributed mightily on the DLine. Undrafted FA Nick Miller and Desmond Bryant also contributed. Murphy has regressed some but shown enough potential in his first 2 years.
So yeah, I consider 2009 to be a good draft and 2010 to be a great draft. All the young guys contributed plenty to our wins this year.

McClain is such an anti-Davis pick, that I can’t imagine Davis had as much influence over last year’s first couple rounds as he usually does.
A MLB with average speed whose biggest sell is his smarts?
From a guy that doesn’t draft LBers very high? Unless they run blazing 40s like Thomas Howard.
And a high motor run-stuffing undersized DT or big DE in the 2nd round? Get out of here.
You think Davis really put in countless hours of film study on all these college kids and filtered out the ones we drafted?
January 4th, 2011 at 4:00 pm
Not even Al is insane enough to let the only guy who could stop the humiliation of the last decade just walk. Only to hire another ‘ladder climber’ (ala Calahan, Kiffin) who will be gone in 2 years guaranteed to a tier 1 College program when he is fired for cause or non-performance. When that happens, Al’s back to square one – yet again.
Firstly, there is *no way* Hue Jackson gets a HC job offer this year – he’s simply not qualified enough. He will be interviewed and he rightly should be – but there are only 4 positions currently open anyway and there are many more qualified candidates than a guy with only 3 years OC experience. If *somehow* he’s able to swing his way into an offer (maybe the Niners because they are that stupid), Al should just calmly let him walk and just replace him with one of the dozens of good OC candidates out there. The offense is generally in place and having to replace him is not that big of a deal.
Besides, everyone says Hue is the difference for the ‘turn around’ – the real difference is not having to play JaFatAss at QB, McFadden finally playing up to his ability, some decent Oline play, and Ford and Reece coming out of nowhere and being the playmakers that we haven’t had since the ‘02 season. It’s not like Hue’s ’system’ is so special that he is irreplaceable. Frankly, I think he’s a bit overrated and he is getting way too much credit.
His name is all over the news as the savior of the Raiders.
And we know how much Al hates that…
Safest bet is the entire staff is back next season. Even Marshall as he is one of Al’s guys. Al most likely thinks we’re 3-4 players away from a SB run so don’t screw things up at this point by taking a risky chance with a new HC that could blow up just as easily as not.
At least I hope he thinks that..

I’m pretty sure the Steelers would laugh at any playoff team offering them 2 1st and 2 2nd round picks for their coach.
Especially when the draft is a 50-50 thing for most teams.
Someone posted it was a “steal”? With Al drafting? 4 extra players and some $? lol.

Yeah, I’ll bet you do a lot of waiting.
“Impressive wins”? How about two days ago?
I don’t recall, anyway, saying anything about “impressive wins”.

Hill,
I would pay some good $ to find out who made those picks last year.
I’m guessing there was more input from the scouts that actually went and WATCHED Veldheer and Houston play.
No joke, it was documented Davis asked his scouts before one draft who the hardest hitting safety was.
“Derrick Gibson,” they said, “but he can’t cover.”
And there he was.

ESPN writers never need a source, or even waste the time making calls, in most cases.
They just write whatever seems possible, even remotely, and claim “source” or “unlikely”, or “probably”.

The ESPN report that Cable won’t likely be back next year that was so *conveniently leaked* right before the Chiefs game on Sunday – it was not a coincidence. It wreaks of Al manipulating the media for his own gain… getting it on the news wire and seeing if the team was willing to step it up for Cable knowing his job was on the line. They did in a big way and you know Al is smiling (gum smiling with drool) ear to ear. They went undefeated in the AFC west – the most hated teams in Al’s psyche. Not only that – they blew out every team. Sure, they didn’t make the playoffs, but even Al knows this is not a SB team, not yet anyway. Getting out of the 7 year cellar, while literally beating up the division (and softening KC for getting blown out on Sat – which will be a laugher) is enough to stay the course.
Stabilize the Oline, get a real #1 WR, get the OLB situation taken care of and they will be a playoff team next year (assuming McFadden can stay healthy, which is a big if). If we can do the same kind of damage to the division we did this year and win 3-4 of those close games outside the division, get a bye – things could get interesting in the playoffs when the Jets/Ravens/Steelers/Patriots/Colts have to come out West to the black hole.
Go Raiders!

How about this from Jerry’s post???
Here was Campbell’s explanation of the final drive against Jacksonville, which ended with a short completion to Jacoby Ford as time expired.
“I think we just ran out of time,’’ Campbell said. “The third down play, we were trying to get a call in and had to switch it really quick to try and get the first (down).
“We were trying to get a play where we could try and get a double move and get into the end zone. But things happen and we had to take a time out. Then on the last play, we were trying to get Jacoby to where he could catch the ball and go out of bounds. But I was throwing off my back foot so I really couldn’t get into what I wanted.

If Hue stays, I wouldn’t mind OchoCinco coming here. When Hue was around, OchoCinco still looked like he could be star on the field, instead of the star of a reality TV show.
Then again, his personality might be a little too big for the locker room. He tends to take it upon himself to be a major pain in the a** on a yearly basis.
January 4th, 2011 at 4:37 pm
the only half-reason I hear is some “continuity” myth that I’m not sure exists for average QBs.
So, just looking at in honestly, it just sounds like fan-talk and nothing logical.
January 4th, 2011 at 4:37 pm
I still would love to see what Sean Payton and Gregg Williams could do with this personnel.
January 4th, 2011 at 4:39 pm
I think continuity really only applies to keeping Hue as the OC. There’s no guarantee of continuity if he takes on the duties of the HC as well. But for an offense with as many young pieces as the Raiders have, I would love to see what they could do with a second year in the same offensive system.
January 4th, 2011 at 4:43 pm
YA,
will the running game really IMPROVE from #2 in the league?
Or will they likely decline playing real D’s like Chicago’s, NE’s, Jets’, Vikings, and Dolphins again?
As for the WRs, I guess there might be an uptick if Ford and Schilens start all year, but with JC and his career-high 20 TDs and penchant for checking down, and harder schedule, I don’t think it will be that high.
January 4th, 2011 at 4:44 pm
Just honestly curious what some fans see that makes them think we’ll start playing big-boy football next year,
when we’ve been BLOWN OUT by virtually EVERY single big-boy team this year, last year, and the year before.
January 4th, 2011 at 4:49 pm
Well, that’s what having a young, improving team is about isn’t it? Isn’t that what the offseason is for?
There’s never a guarantee that a team is going to get dramatically better. But if in the offseason they keep their key players, add a few more solid pieces, and the young guys continue to learn the game, there’s definitely reason to be optimistic.
If you think they sucked this year, sucked the years before, and will suck next year, then maybe you should follow a different NFL team.
January 4th, 2011 at 4:50 pm
My reasoning is I am a Raider fan. I always think they will get better and win. I think we will go to the SB again. I stick behind Al the 53 men on the team.
I think Cable has done a very good job
I think JC can play better
I think our defense will improve.
I could care less about the hows and whys.
No matter what I think or feel, Al picks the players
Al picks the coaches, Al picks the scheme.

Fire Tom Cable? That’s bad footballWhy Al Davis will set the Raiders back–again. Matt Bowen
Print This Send This January 03, 2011, 03:00 PM EST .10 Comments .
Who is with me today when we talk Tom Cable and the Raiders? Because no matter how you spin it when it comes to the future of this franchise, the idea of firing the Oakland head coach is plain and simple bad football.
That is the best way I can say it. We are talking about a coach that has Oakland playing competitive football again. A team that has a physical style on both sides of the ball that just swept the AFC West this season. A 6-0 mark in divisional games—which is extremely hard to do in today’s NFL. Cable did that as well as turn this bottom feeder into a team that can win on Sundays.
ICON
Al Davis can make another questionable move by firing head coach Tom Cable.
I agree that 8-8 is, well, 8-8. It isn’t time to throw parades in Oakland because they have moved on from a team that players in this league used to laugh at—and ignore—when it came time to pick a new home in free agency. No one wanted to play in Oakland back during my career. And that is the honest truth; because they knew it was going to involve change and possibly starting over from year to year.
More importantly, playing in Oakland didn’t add up to winning. And no one wanted to pay the price of preparing for Sundays only to come up short time after time. Players went there for the money—and that’s it.
However, I see a coach in Cable who can change that. This team has somewhat taken on his own personality. They aren’t as easy win on Sunday anymore, and from the players I have talked to, you better bring your “big boy” pads if you want to line up against the Raiders under Cable.
But, we can’t talk about the Raiders without Al Davis. Once again, the owner wants change—immediate results. I get that, but at what cost? Is starting over—again—really a solution to becoming a consistent playoff team in the NFL? And, let’s be honest here, what big name coach is going to beat down the owner’s door to get a crack at this gig?
There has been talk of offensive coordinator Hue Jackson taking over. I know coach Jackson from my time in Washington playing for the Redskins. He was part of Steve Spurrier’s staff and I do respect his ability to coach offensive football. However, he isn’t ready to be the headman yet in the NFL—and he isn’t an upgrade over Cable.
And maybe that’s it. I guess we shouldn’t understand Al Davis and his decisions to run this franchise into the ground. The owner has an opportunity to allow a coach to build on some success from the 2010 season.
But that would too easy—and smart—for Davis
January 4th, 2011 at 4:54 pm
You don’t have to be #1-2 in NFL Rushing to have a good Rushing Team.

Why do you even bother to bring shcytt up that you’ve been called on before.
1. You claim it was Ford that tried to move with the ball after catching it rather than trying to get out of bounds. the video proved other wise. Then you tried to weasel your way out of it by saying you can’t view videos from nfl.com. I followed it with a youtube and you changed the subject.
So dont even bother trying to change the subject.
2. You claimed that Reece ran up the middle on that first drive on 4th and 1 against the Rams and I proved that it was a run to the right side. I was 100% right.
the question is area you man enough to admit you were wrong on both poitns or are you going to try and BS your way out of it. ———–
What logical reasons do you want? Every team in the NFL looks to improve during the offseason. That’s what the offseason is about. Moreover, every season in the NFL is different. Countless factors play into whether a team plays good football, or whether they collapse.
It’s undeniable that this team has more talent than it has in the past seven years. In the offseason certain adjustments will be made. All we can do is wait and see what happens.
Personally, I’m cautiously optimistic. I think a lot will depend on which coaches and players come back, and how the 2011 draft goes. If the Raiders can keep their momentum going on offense and be more consistent on defense next season, they could easily put together a 10-win season.
Believe what you want, man. If you don’t believe the Raiders will ever get any better, then you’re wasting your time posting in this blog.
Me? I AM a Raider fan, of course. I’m always hopeful they’ll improve. Certainly, the Raiders organization is unique, and comes with unique challenges (an owner who has preconceived notions of how the game should be played and a reluctance to pay top dollar for coaches, preconceived notions about the organization around the league), but that’s also part of the reason the Raiders are so intriguing to me as a fan of the game of football.

true Aig,
but I stated that might be used by DAVIS to fire Cable, not me. Does Davis look at JC and think “terrible QB.” Unlikely.
More likely sees the easiest schedule he’s had in decades, a top-10 offense, the 11th ranked defense, and an 8-8 finish with BRUTAL losses to every legit team and a couple non-legit teams.
Gruden went 8-8 with Donald Hollas
So not sure he’ll blame the next Jim Plunkett, but would be sweet. Night to you too. Didn’t want to leave without answering your direct comment.

I said LONG ago I was wrong about Ford trying to turn upfield after the catch instead of running OOB.
You know how I realized that?
I watched the play again on the DVR, lol.
But the original POINT was the pass from JC was to Ford for him to try and get OOB!
Your rant the whole time was JC should have thrown the ball to the ONLY WR going to the endzone who was the double covered DHB.
Again, can you please comment on the comments from JERRY’s thread?
Here they are again ….

——————————————————
AIG,
We ALL know the FB dive/fake pitch to DMac play.
The play is designed to go between the C and OG.
The POINT you were trying to make is one side was overloaded, per Cable, so there should have been a TO, audible, or whatever.
If you are asking me if he ran the ball off the RG instead of behind the C, I’ll give you that. No biggie. Don’t even have to review the film, because that is still up the middle to me and most people.
FB Dive is not designed to go outside. right or wrong?

I’m on board with Cable staying on as HC.
If Al decides to make a change, he needs to hit the jackpot. Chances are he’ll ufck it all up..
Anyone calling for McDonkey to come here in ANY capacity, really should seek out a Mental Health professional and get some much needed help..

Personally, I don’t find either of you very knowledgable.
January 4th, 2011 at 5:21 pm
You see how much of a weasel you are….the effin play was to the right side and you are not man enough to admit it.
It was to the side that STL overloaded on and Jadummy should have called a timeout. That was the reason why TC tried to call a timeout and after the game admitted that Jadummy should have recognized the situation.
a few weeks later, Jadummy admitted to Gannon that he still has not learned all the formation during the week leading up tot he Niner game.
But keep on with the excuses.

What you really want me to say is that since I am black, I like all black QBs no matter what they do.
THAT is what you believe and why you only “get upset” with black posters, lol.
SEVERAL posters have told “reminded” you of how I called for JC to be benched in GAME ONE! Right after the punk arsse slide, but here were are 16 games later because you believe all the black guys like the black QB.
Pathetic!

How about your take that he was holding the ball too long on the previous play? How long does it take a double move to develop?

JC is WAYYYYY better than Gardowski, IMO.

Let’s see, elevating Hue Jackson to HC would ensure some sort of continuity, while giving Al Davis a chance to do his favorite thing in the world: Firing a mofo. Oh yeah, Cable’s gone. P.S. Jeff Bridges blows this fat dude’s head off in “True Grit”. The guy looks exactly like Cable. I took that as an omen.

Get Brady, Manning, Ryan, Rogers, Vick, or those guys in in here, and I’ll take them over JC. Same goes for Luck, the Mizzou QB, Orton, or Kolb.
Do not want McNabb, Tebow, Palmer, or Gardowski.
January 4th, 2011 at 5:45 pm
Hill,
I dont disappear. I just refuse to get into a discussion with you other than calling you out when you blatantly tries to rewrite history to excuse your JaDrama Queen.
Plain and simple. Against Detroit in 2009 4th down from Det’s 40 yd line on the final play, JC dumped off for a game over. Against Jax, JC dumped off with 11 secs left from pretty much the same distance. He is who he is. 1:31 secs, 60 yds and 1 TO to become a hero and he wilted as he always does. But keep on waiting for that hero to emerge after 7 yrs and 70+ starts.

January 4th, 2011 at 6:03 pm
Well, well. That was quick. Hue already getting an interview. Why no one is interested in interviewing Cabes yet I wonder?
Also looks like overall comments are finally starting to come down to Earth and realize the situation for what it is. Hue or Cabes, you chose Hue.
What I think WILL happen? Hue has a shot but I don’t think he gets the HC gig because of his “newness” as an OC so teams may view it as a risk to big to take.
So Cabes MAY be safe unless Hue actually gets an offer or Al swings and hits a homerun with Harbaugh. Now that will immediately sell tickets!
January 4th, 2011 at 6:03 pm
so it does’nt sound ridiculous to you?

Michigan said to “still undecided” regarding Rodriguez, may have something tomorrow. Postponed a team meeting today until decided I think.
This says the source may actually be right. Harbaurgh looking at the NFL?

A Raiders offseason is never bland. It can be more intriguing than the actual games at times.
I can tell you this. Cable does not inspire ticket sales. With Harbaurgh the fan base becomes ’seriously’ rejuvenated and you can’t find enough tickets to sell. Come out strong opening season and its a sell out every darn game.

Lonetree, both Alex and myself know you’re wrong. That’s 2 people here who know you’re a little bit wacky.

Actually, that is still one person Real SybilRaider.
January 4th, 2011 at 6:51 pm
Well, that sort of counts, Kirk. But the comment obviously reveals a bitterness stemming from me calling you out on your race baiting earlier. Again, a comment that either has nothing to do with race, or our discussion earlier. I don’t know if you’re capable of it. So go ahead, just keep talking about race and picking fights with people who mock you for it. I don’t know if your attention span allows you to discuss anything else.

Filed to ESPN: Raiders informed Tom Cable they will not pick up the option in his contract. He no longer is the Raiders head coach.
OMG!!! Here we go again…
January 4th, 2011 at 6:52 pm
Bo, your guys’ credibility is not that great as it is. Every time you accuse me of being someone else, that other person notices, too, and that makes even more people who know you’re confused. Archive Tony was accusing me of being GhosttothePost yesterday, who’s a Davis guy. Accusing me of being a Davis worshiper is one step away from talking to trees. So go ahead, keep reaching, guys.
January 4th, 2011 at 6:53 pm
anyway, anyone who hopes or wishes or desires the Oaktown Raiders to be run, coached, or to play as all the other teams in the National Football League misses the point. win or lose, the Raiders are unique and that is not because of CBAs nor anything the league has to offer, it is because Al has set the tone. Al haters can wish the Raiders to be like other sterile franchises but then they would not be the Raiders. the basic fy*K you and goodnight.

The Oakland Raiders have informed Tom Cable they will not pick up the option in his contract, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
…….Could it be true!!! Things are heating up!
January 4th, 2011 at 6:54 pm
Well, Cable did an admirable enough job making this team quasi-relevant again. But let’s hope the next guy can help the Raiders take the next step. .500 is nice and all in comparison to the last seven years, but you have to do better than that to compete with the elite teams in this league.
January 4th, 2011 at 6:55 pm
MR, you are a confirmed, self-admitted cross-poster. Otherwise known as a troll. No self esteem. One overriding obsession.
Loser.
And you talk about credibility?
January 4th, 2011 at 6:55 pm
Has anyone here ever considered the possibility of Schefter being right? LOL? Is it really that impossible that Cable would get fired? Davis is faced with either firing him or committing to him. Davis doesn’t want to give him a new contract, then have to pay him and/or fight him in arbitration if he has to fire him next year. Firing Cable actually does make some sense. Personally I’d like to think Davis was firing him to bring in a big name and finally rebuild this joke of a franchise, but more likely, Davis is going to run him out to avoid giving him a new contract that he will have to honor no matter what happens.
January 4th, 2011 at 6:55 pm
Is it Harbaugh since Hue was given permission to talk? Man the Raiders are so damn exciting!!!
January 4th, 2011 at 6:56 pm
Try again Alex/KiffinRaider, that one didn’t work as there weren’t two of you.
January 4th, 2011 at 6:56 pm
ADHD for sure. Race baiting? Was’nt supposed to be. I just said Rooney rule was ridiculous and you jumped all over it. What does that say about you? You keep talkin about it asking me not to. Like I said Real Motherfing Retarded.

Back to the dark days… AD has totally lost touch with Reality.
What else is new?
January 4th, 2011 at 6:56 pm
Bo, accuse me of trolling or cross posting all you want. But for your own good, every time you accuse me of being a certain commenter, both me and that commenter know you’re a little bit nuts. Word to the wise.

I can tell you this. Cable does not inspire ticket sales. With Harbaurgh the fan base becomes ’seriously’ rejuvenated and you can’t find enough tickets to sell. Come out strong opening season and its a sell out every darn game.
———————————-
That’s the typical Davis’ off-season game. Flashy Free-Agent hiring to sell tickets. Doesn’t work very well, because the fan base knows Al Davis despite the flash, is still in charge.
Coming off 8-8 it could work this time.
But Harbaugh’s carte blanche is high right now.
Al Can’t/Won’t pay him
Won’t let him hire his own assistants.
Won’t let him run his own scheme, unfettered.
Oldest Stadium in the NFL.

Ohio’s smelling fear.
January 4th, 2011 at 6:59 pm
There were fair arguments for and against Cable staying. Personally, I’m more concerned about Hue Jackson, since his coaching made a huge difference on the offensive side of the ball.
January 4th, 2011 at 6:59 pm
I also remember your “promise” to stop posting after we surpassed 5 wins this last year. U sniveling liar.
January 4th, 2011 at 7:00 pm
Bo, I can just start making fun of Al Davis and make you fume right now, but I’m not. Give me some credit.
January 4th, 2011 at 7:00 pm
Terrapin,
Adam Schefter just reported that his first boner was for Craig Morton but his first real man one was for Shanarat.

Al is moving quickly this time…
maybe he has someone already

Seems like Al has some scheme he’s trying to hatch. He always does.
I guess that’s what makes being a Raiders fan so interesting, eh?

Raiders cut Tom Cable loose
Posted by Mike Florio on January 4, 2011, 9:49 PM EST
Tom Cable
Four years ago, Adam Schefter reported that the Raiders would fire coach Art Shell. The Raiders loudly denied the report, calling Schefter a “false rumor monger.”
And then they fired Art Shell.
This time around, Schefter reported that the Raiders would not be keeping coach Tom Cable, despite the team’s first non-losing record since 2002. The Raiders said nothing in response.
Now, Schefter reports that the Raiders have informed Cable that the option on his contract will not be exercised.
As a result, Cable is no longer the coach of the Raiders.
Speculation has centered on offensive coordinator Hue Jackson being promoted into the job.
The Raiders’ 8-8 finish in 2010 arose in large part from a 6-0 record against AFC West teams. But as NBC’s Rodney Harrison explained it during our weekly video segment, there was a sense that Cable didn’t exert enough discipline over the younger players on the team.

Raiders cut ties with Cable

SN Icon Sporting News
The Oakland Raiders have informed coach Tom Cable they will not pick up his option for next season, according to reports.
Cable led the Raiders to an 8-8 season — Oakland’s first non-losing season since 2002 — and had options remaining for 2011 and 2012, but Oakland told Cable on Tuesday evening they were moving in a different direction, ESPN first reported.
Raiders cut ties with Cable Despite an 8-8 record this season, Oakland has fired head coach Tom Cable, according to multiple reports.
The San Jose Mercury News reported that Cable was expected to talk with multiple teams about a coaching position.
ESPN reported the move came a bit earlier than expected because Oakland is interested in promoting offensive coordinator Hue Jackson into the head role, and other teams are requesting to interview him for their respective openings.

PFT is reporting that the 9ers have hired Baalke as their GM, so no coach will be choosing their own GM in SF. That’s kinda backasswards anyway, seeing that the GM is usually the one to hire the Head Coach, that is if said team actually has a GM position within the organization…
