Asomugha void makes sense

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer

The more I thought about it, the more I began to think the language in Nnamdi Asomugha’s contract that will make him an unrestricted free agent was an abundant show of common sense, rather than another sign of Raiders decay.

Asomugha is a terrific player, but the contract the Raiders signed him to following the 2008 season was way out of line and the void language actually protected them against spending too much in year three.

Here’s my argument in the form of a Web exclusive column.

Bay Area News Group columnist Gary Peterson, on the other hand, feels differently in his column which runs in Monday’s editions.

I have a hard time believe AD will not make a strong effort to bring back Nnamdi. It was his diamond in the rough bragging right pick and he’s gonna have a hard time letting 21 go without a huge offer again.

“… didn’t even bother to throw to the left side of the field.”

Sorry about the breaks. The computer is doing its own thing today.

So Lombardo is still taking shots at the owner, eh?

I know it goes against all rumors Al Davis, but why would Hue be looking for a DC unless Al told him to?

Oh, that’s right, Al is supposed to hire everyone for his next HC.

    LMFAO!

Hue better not be messing with Wauffle.

    True.

I don’t think anyone is saying there will not be a market for Nnamdi. But considering the up coming salary cap, Nnamdi is not going to make more money elsewhere. He certainly won’t go elsewhere because someone else offered more money that Al Davis will.

I curious to know which so called contender will give a CB say 10 million a year?

Edward Teach… I agree with what your saying. The game of football is not about Stats.

Its kinda funny because if, Nnamdi had gotten one more INT’s or turnover. He’d be under contract and no one would even be talking about him now.

For other Bloggers to say Nnamdi wont be missed on the field, dont realize what a luxury it is to have him on the field.

and did someone jus bring up Walter Mcfadden as a starter???HUH, He is a project and is no way a starter in this league, yet

As awesome as the d-line was this year, I think one of the things we need to pick up this off-season is a low-cost FA or mid-to-late round draft pick who does nothing but rush the passer with lightning speed in OBVIOUS passing situations.

Love the uber-powerful bull rushing group of Shaughnessy, Seymour, Kelly and Houston, and we’ve got Wimbley and Scott, and we had a ton of sacks this year, but there were some games when we just didn’t get any pressure. I like the group we have, but I think an inexpensive piece like that — some 240 pound long-armed, explosive freak specialist — would be an awesome edition to come off the edge and make opposing QBs have to step up into the onslaught of those other guys I mentioned.

J Hill, I agree, but i dont see Al being out bid for Nnamdi, hes made him the highest paid CB before, and he’ll do it again and lock him down for 3-4 years

haha. BSPN is reporting that the void clause means Nnamdi plays somewhere else next year like there’s no chance he’s back. What bs

now if you really want to talk about being overpaid, we have to talk about gallery.. i love the guy but i think he makes more than all the rest of the line including tight end. his production hasn’t matched his salary in years!!
