FINALLY! Now, on to the DC hiring…
January 17th, 2011 at 5:02 pm
NFL Network reporting Hue is after Al Saunders for OC and Chuck Pagano (DB coach of Ravens) for DC.
Might be a hell of a staff.

JFB – How do you know NO team fined their HC? HOW?
************************
Uhhhh….because I spent about 20 minutes looking it up before I typed it??
This guy!!!!
You see, that’s what I do. Before I type something, I cross check for a few minutes. That way, most all my “opinions” are at least somewhat factually relevant.
You should give it a whirl sometime.

Chad Ochocinco commences flirtation with Patriots
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on January 17, 2011, 7:27 PM EST
Bengals wide receiver Chad Ochocinco may or may not be on the outs in Cincinnati this offseason, depending on who you ask.
If you ask Ochocinco, he’d like to start a campaign to head to New England
January 17th, 2011 at 5:11 pm
I am hearing it’s Chuck Pagano at DC, good call Raider75. They are hoping to have the deal signed by tomorrow morning, if not tonight, in time for the presser…

Hue, Al Saunders, and Chuck Pagano.
We are now the Oakland Ravens.
January 17th, 2011 at 5:13 pm
Chuck Pagano…
Hmm..
—”In 2001, Pagano entered the NFL as secondary coach for the Cleveland Browns. In 2003, he helped the Browns tie a franchise record for the fewest passing touchdowns allowed with 13. In 2001, the secondary accounted for 28 of the Browns’ NFL-high 33 interceptions, and, in the same season, rookie cornerback Anthony Henry led the league with ten interceptions”—
—”After leaving Cleveland in 2004, Pagano spent two seasons as defensive backs coach of the Oakland Raiders. In 2006, the Raiders’ pass defensive allowed just 151 yards per game, and total defense just 285. This ranked them first and third in the league, respectively”—
January 17th, 2011 at 5:14 pm
JFB – IF you’ve already looked it up post it. I have no pride in this fight. I don’t give a sht. My opinion won’t change. Al was within his right to do so imho. That won’t change. But I find it highly unlikely you have such evidence because its almost unimaginable that such information as who exactly paid the fine would be reported. I think you’re full of sht.
January 17th, 2011 at 5:14 pm
Now we will be held hostage by the CBA crap! That needs to be settled ASAP!
January 17th, 2011 at 5:14 pm

I like the way this is going. I’d lost a little faith in Al after the JR debacle, but getting rid of Cable restored it. I love the fact that he fined that dumbass. It tells me that Al and I were on the same page with that guy. Hue was obviously the brain on our offensive staff and Al knew it. Adam Schefter reports Al Saunders as Jackson’s likely offensive coordinator. Saunders has coached with the Rams, Chargers, Chiefs, and Redskins, spending 2009 and 2010 as the Ravens offensive coordinator. He was the Redskins’ assistant head coach in 2006 and 2007, the first two years of Jason Campbell’s career as the Skins starter. Campbell is currently on the Raiders roster.

I figured we would pluck the Baltimore tree.
I like the Saunders piece of this puzzle the best. I think he is just the experience Hue needs to add to improve his offense. Anything close to what we saw in KC is going to be golden.

Dude …Al Saunders is widely acclaimed around the league. At first I forgot who it was although I recognized the name. But memory came back and this guy is a guru of offenses. Washington paid him $6mm under Gibbs. He was the asst head coach during the Greatest Show on Turf. He ran the KC offense in the early 2000s, which as a juggernaut! It was the top offense in the NFL for consecutive years running!!!!!
Holy sht man …this would be a major coup …my goodness. Its Al SAUNDERS!!! In offensive circles thats the equivalent of Mike Martz’s reputation, or Cam Cameron, or Norv Turner himself as OC. This is big.
Now I’m probably too damn excited. Hope these boys don’t let me down. It may be a shortened season which will have impact. Just don’t let the Nation down. Go get ‘em. SB BABY!!!

I think Cam Cameron is the OC at Baltimore
January 17th, 2011 at 5:30 pm
Cam Cameron is the OC in Baltimore, Saunders had a similar role to Hackett there.
Saunders is the best of these hires so far. He has been and could be an OC in a lot of other places.
Hue and Pagano are not hot items as HC’s or DC’s.
As long as we do well in the draft though, we should be OK. Our division is one of the weakest in the league.

Cable’s MO was the line of scrimmage. Our D-line dominated most of the season, and our O-line humilated our opponent every one of our division games this year.
Hue’s specialty is WR’s and QB’s. Let’s hope he can continue what Cable preached and got results in at the LOS, but do what Cable couldn’t, and bring our passing game out of the cellar of the NFL.

why does NO ONE seem to understand that tom cable and the offense wasn’t the problem? once again(an this sounds like a broken record) the defensive scheme is a complete joke. there was no need to fire a popular coach when the defense consistanlty ranks in bottom 4 of the league; ESPECIALLY with the personel on that defense. al davis’ out-dated man-to-man, rush four scheme does not work in the modern game. how amny coaches is he gonna fire before he buys a fVckin’ mirror?

I agree that Waufle does deserve a lot of credit.
Can’t ignore the fact that Cable preached being tough and winning the LOS of scrimmage and in the SEA game, both DEN games, the 2nd KC and SD games at the very least, those teams got completely humilated at the LOS for 60 minutes.
Completely pushed around all game.
Cable had his faults no doubt, but Hue has to build upon this next year. Job #1 is to continue to manhandle our division opponents at the LOS like we did in 2010.

Jackson Fired in Oakland”
(A.P)-
In an unprecedented move, the Oakland Raiders today fired their Head Coach Hue Jackson.
This is the shortest tenure of any Raider head coach, and the second shortest in league history. The Raiders also hold that distinction after Manager of the General Partner Al Davis fired HC Vern “Cramp” Gerstherfer after the 2002 season. Gersthefer, an insurance salesman, not only had no HC experience at any level in organized sports, but reportedly had no personal interest in sports altogether. “Crampy”‘ as he was known to friends, earned the nickname for his distinctive whining whenever called upon to participate in any physical activity beyond going back and forth to the bathroom, was the Raider HC for a mere 5 minutes beifre being releived of his duties.
He was subsequently sued by Al Davis for the entire cost of the “Happy Meal” he had consumed during his tenure as the Raider field chief.
After spending nearly $ 300,000 on legal expenses as part of the lengthy litigation process, Mr. Davis dropped the suit, citing his kind affection for insurance agents. ‘let bygones be bygones I always say’ quipped Mr. Davis at the end of the process. ‘I’m just glad it’s finally over” said “Crampy” who then was able to get on with the business of selling illegal insurance policies.

Saunders would then join the St. Louis Rams coaching staff. From 1999-2000 he served as the wide receivers Coach under Dick Vermeil and later as assistant head coach under Mike Martz. During this period, the Rams won Super Bowl XXXIV in 2000
Saunders would rejoin the Kansas City Chiefs in 2001 as the offensive coordinator when Vermeil came out of retirement. In his second stint with the Chiefs, Saunders built the NFL’s top offense, which was ranked #1 in the NFL from 2002–2005

Nobody wanted Tomlin??
He was the 2nd youngest DC in the history of the NFL before coming a HC!!! A twenty something DB coach for the Bucs Super Bowl team. He was a rising prospect in the NFL.
This whole Rooney Rule thing with Tomlin is another often-posted myth on here.
Rooney already interviewed a minority candidate to satisfy the rule before interviewing Tomlin.
FACT
January 17th, 2011 at 5:57 pm
Satele is a FA, and I don’t know if he fits what Hue and Saunders will be looking for at C. Heck he just might for all we know.
But was Veldheer to C something Cable wanted, or Al?
I just hope we don’t see Mario Henderson back at LT if Veldheer does get moved back to C.
With a whole offseason to practice the position, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him moved back to C. Not saying it should happen. Just all things considered, wouldn’t be surprised.

its probably not offical till al davis press conference tomorrow too announce hue johnson as the next raiders head coach!
January 17th, 2011 at 6:01 pm
I think the Veldheer at Center was an Al thing that got completely botched by Cable. No proof of course, just speculation considering the media story that went out proclaiming Raider centers of old being just as big as Veldheer. That had Davis’ mark on it if you ask me.
I also think Veldheer can be a dominant Center in this league. He has issues with the better pass rushers in teh league which causes the penalties.
January 17th, 2011 at 6:03 pm
What do you think JHill? Many will disagree with me; but they are only looking at it from what happened opening day. That f’ up was all on Cable for not giving him enough practice at center before starting.
January 17th, 2011 at 6:04 pm
Per Wikipedia-
“The Al Saunders offense, an Air Coryell offense, requires a quarterback with a very accurate sense of timing and trust with the receiver which could not be replicated in Washington during Brunell’s 2006 season.”

All of this hooplah will be meaningless if Al continues to meddle and micromanage. This staff seems pretty good on paper, but if Al starts to undermine and steal coaches thunder, then we can get ready for a replay of the last few regimes.

Veldheer sure seemed much more comfortable at T than C.
I only think you move him to C if he regresses further at LT.
I really hate the whole moving guys around thing. Veldheer was a LT in college, and played well at LT in his rookie year. Keep him there.
Draft a guy who played RT in college, and play him at RT. Leave your centers as guys who played C for years.
Just my opinion.
January 17th, 2011 at 6:08 pm
JFB,
I hope we continue the smashmouth approach on defense, but I’d like to see more of a passing game on offense. I’d like to see us get some underneath routes for our WRs that allow them to get YAC. Would like to see us mix in some TE and WR screens as well.
I think all this will open up our run game even more as it will be against 6 men in the box instead od 7 and 8.
January 17th, 2011 at 6:08 pm
J was right! They (Al & Hue ) are trying to steal coaches from the Ravens. I like it.

January 17th, 2011 at 6:09 pm

January 17th, 2011 at 6:09 pm
Veldheer isn’t going back to center. Played much better at tackle than C and I don’t think he played c since like high school before that move. Plus he’s like 6′8″ which doesn’t lend to getting necessary leverage against the 350 pounders lined up at NT. Plus Satele played very well in 2010. Arguably our best lineman this year.

Your not running any WR screens with 350 pound lineman.
You need the Satele, Carlisle, Veldheer’s and even Bruce Campbell’s of the world firing off the LOS and getting out in time to get a piece of the DB and/or LB on those plays.

Terrapin,
I was on board with Veldheer at C. I agreed with the notion that he would be a more powerful guy there. I can see the experience thing being an issue for some posters on here.
Personally, I was all for ANYONE not named Mario Henderson, Satele, or Carlisle last offseason.
January 17th, 2011 at 6:14 pm
LOL JFB!
January 17th, 2011 at 6:15 pm
Veldheer made the all-rookie team at LT why on earth would you move him? The kids future is at LT and I also think we have a RT in Mario now that his most ardent detractor is gone. Mario is a physical talent not a ZBS player give him the chance RT and I’m telling ya’ he’ll be very good. I want to Bruce Campbell at RG or you can flop those two and make the right side of line very good.
Satele played damn good football as the seaon wore on. I woulkd like a FB capable of the things OO did when he was right. Let Reece play TE and HB. Add a WR so when Chaz goes down we’re not hurting. And the offense is ready to go.
I think we have a edge rusher in Jarvis Moss if we can get another stud LB we are on our way.

Veldheer was out backup C this year.
Got some snaps in there a few games when Satele would go down with injuries.
Veldheer at C is not out of the question folks. Satele is a FA!

Jhill I’m not sure what you have against Satele, but he played very well last year there was no way we would gotten that kind of play out Veldheer at that position. Veldheer is a OT that is his natural position to move him would be counterproductive.
January 17th, 2011 at 6:20 pm
95% of Chaz’s offseason should be spent in a swimming pool. All the way up to opening day kickoff. He should arrive at the stadium soaking wet looking like an albino prune.
January 17th, 2011 at 6:20 pm
Al Saunders looks pretty intimidating. Marine background & all. Not the most flattering image but my guess is that’s not a priority to him. Love the (alleged) hire. Hopefully he & Hue can coach up the WR’s (I know; what do I think Hue was trying to do last season? Kinda like what Cable had to do with the OL in 2009).
Pagano plays into the Raiders’ emphasis on DB play. Hopefully he has something to say about gap control. Seems pass defense wasn’t the prime concern.
Works only if Waffle is retained as DL coach. However, with Pagano’s lack of clout hopefully an “inheritance” like this would come with the deal.
Gaither would solidify the Raven connection as well as add to the Raider Terripan affiliation.
Let Gallery go. If available Logan Mankins is the guy you want. Then move Walker over to RG. In the six weeks or so he filled in for Gallery @ LG he surely didn’t embrass himself, something I think we’d get a healthy dose of with Bruce Campbell (he of the not quite ready for prime time players) would provide.
Come to think of it, avoid the former Terrapins @ all cost!

-Sign OL, CB, and a QB in FA.

Our entire DL was playing a a high level all season. I think Henderson should stay for the vet min, but we should also add a DT in later RDs to keep our DTs fresh in the 4th Q.
I think we should keep Houston at LE, and Bryant is another UT tweener. Like Seymour and Houston, Bryant can play DE too.

I have my reservations about Hue as play-caller, but if he hands that off to Al Saunders, that should work well.
I just really saw the effect Cable preached being a phyically dominant team at times. We completely punked our entire division. Who goes on the road to San Diego and throws like 16 passes and blows them off the field?
It was nice to see, and I think Cable deserves a lot of credit for it. If it continues and increases next year, than we will see that Cable doesn’t deserve credit for it. If we go a little softer, than we certainly know he did deserve credit it.
That’s been my stance from the jump.

I don’t get the “underachieving” by bringing a team to it’s best record in 7 years.
IMO, this was an overachieving team. Hadn’t finished over .500 divsion in 7 years and swept them. Hadn’t beat SD in 5 years and swept them. Hadn’t finished with over 5 wins in 7 years and got 8.
I don’t hang that all on Cable, clearly the players deserve a lot of credit, as well as Davis for nailing the draft and not going crazy in free agency.
I’m just not going to scape-goat Tom Cable until this team does better than 8-8.
We go 10-6 next year, I will gladly change my tune and dump on Cabes, lol.
January 17th, 2011 at 7:07 pm
FA FS Jarrad Page should be brought in to compete for the FS spot with Brown (assuming Huff leaves)
Mitchell, Brown, and Branch should all compete for SS.
Depending on if Nnamdi and Routt stay, the 2nd round pick should either be OLB Greg Jones, the best man-to-man CB available, or C/OG Stephen Wisniewski.

Your opinion is as good as mine but this is my opinion. We haven’t beaten SD in SD since 2001 and we did it last year with a new OC and we did it too all of the division opponents for the first time since who knows when with a new OC. Seems to me the new OC made a huge difference and the owner knows more than anyone in here and he is extactic to hire this new OC as his HC.
When he hired Cable he needed an assistant to tell him about the guy during the presser. I knew then it was for one reason he had a young team that didn’t need to wonder about the new coach they needed someone they were familiar with.
This time he brought someone in from the outside and groomed him for the HC position. He never makes statements brfore his pressers and I can’t ever remember him being this positive about anyone. That statement he released was way out of character. It just shows he really likes this guy Hue Jackson.

I was all for giving Cable one more year, but that’s water under the bridge now. Let’s see if Hue and his staff can take this talented young team to the next level.
The AFC West is right there for the taking.
January 17th, 2011 at 7:18 pm
Priest,
Can’t disagree with you their. Hue deserves a lot of credit for this offense and the competiveness he brought to things.
But Hue’s background is in QB and WR’s, and we didn’t beat our division opponents with some fancy passing offense and getting huge games from our WR’s.
We won those games by being tough, and running the ball play after play behind our O-line.
I say that has a lot to do with Cable. I will meet you half way and say Hue and Cable (long-time friends and colleagues) deserve to split the credit for the LOS dominance in those games.
Until I see our team dominate that way without Cable, which could easily be done a few months into the season, I give him credit for it until proven otherwise.
January 17th, 2011 at 7:20 pm
How bad will Hue J fell if he can’t get this team to
9-7 or better? The fat monkey did 8-8, and 6-0 in AFC West. If HuJac doesn’t get us to the playoffs he will/should be fired. Hell save the time, fire him now.
January 17th, 2011 at 7:20 pm
“That’s why I came to the Raiders, was to improve, but we didn’t improve fast enough …,” Jackson said late in the season. “We expect to be challenging for the playoffs, challenging for our division year in and year out, and we’re not getting that done, so, to me, that’s a disappointment. There’s either first place or there’s last place, and there’s no in between.”
That was a far different tone than the one expressed by Cable, who notably pronounced “you can’t call us losers anymore,” after the Raiders capped the 8-8 campaign by beating the AFC West champion Kansas City Chiefs in the season finale.
————————————————————————————————————–
Statements like these can get you hired and fired, respectively.

FINALLY!
Chuck Pagano would be a good hire as DC, but I hope Hue calls most of the plays on offense with input from old man Saunders.
I would rather see Pees be the DC though….but Pagano has worked for the Raiders before.
I don’t trust Saunders calling most of the plays.
I’m assuming Hue Jacksons’ offense playbook and terminology will remain also….which is a good thing.
They need to get a better WR coach in there as well.

JFB Well let me inform you about the Oline last year and teh running game under Cable’s watch. WE struggled badly both in protection and running game. With two of the most talented RB’s in the game. He almost NEVER used Bush and we gave up a ton of sacks. This year we change to a much more aggresive power blocking system with traps and pulls. All of a sudden DMC is a top flight HB with MVP capabilities.
The Dline Cable wouldn’t know from beans. Get a clue……that is Wauffles dept. If Cable was so instrumental he wouldn’t have praised Hujack in the way that he did. Hujack contrary to your opinion is well versed in OLine play in fact the entire offense was his baby. That is the responsibility of any OC while he has position coaches the concepts and schemes are his.

pouncey wont be available when we pick but if he is im all for taking him. im likin casey mathews as our wlb. them mathews boyz can play. keep building that front 7 on d and get us some physical players on offense.id look at marecic as our fb and 1 of these dynamic pass catching te’s with speed. we could use a hernandez type to go with miller. i do like the idea of reece being an h-back type. wouldnt be surprised to see tj housh play here next year. dont care if he dropped that pass he can still play.

Saunders has been one the top teir OC’s in the league for over 30 years he is to offense what Labeau is to defense. He is a direct decendant of Sid Gilman. If we get him he is one OC Hue is certain to listen to and lena on. His offense under Coryell was the best footballl had to offer Norv Turner learned from Saunders and made Dallas a power house. SD’s offense is almost precisely what Saunders brings to the table. If you like what you saw from those offenses that’s what you’ll see from the Raiders next year.
January 17th, 2011 at 7:37 pm
next we will get cyborg to run the defense and hopefully hue jack will a black bald headed professor x.
January 17th, 2011 at 7:38 pm
FINALLY!
Chuck Pagano would be a good hire as DC, but I hope Hue calls most of the plays on offense with input from old man Saunders instead.
I would rather see Pees be the DC though….but Pagano has worked for the Raiders before and anyone from the Ravens defensive staff should be able to do a good job.
I don’t trust old man Saunders calling most of the offensive plays. He is not creative enough.
I’m assuming Hue Jacksons’ offense playbook and terminology will remain also….which is a good thing.
They need to get a better WR coach in there as well.

Gotta give Cable credit for killing the monster and the general change in attitude around the team. He got the team from pitiful to average/mediocre. It was important to do that to set the stage for future greatness.
Thank you for that.
The next step, going from average to elite is probably harder. Just ask the Texans.
Hope this guy can do it without any regression to the bad old days.

A combination of Nnamdi Asomugha and Dominique Foxworth would be one of the better tandems in football. Not only that, but it opens up much more opportunities for the Ravens to blitz and put more pressure on the quarterback.
The main theme of this offseason is to begin building around Joe Flacco for the future.
However, not only would the acquisition of Nnamdi Asomugha benefit the purple and black for 2010, but in the long run of this franchise as well.

I like the way the coaching staff seems to shaping up. Now the next order of business is that long list of potential free agents. That concerns me.
No way they are going ot be able to keep all of them. They are probably going to lose some good football players.
I think they keep Seymour, Now way can you trade a 1st rd pick to rent a player for two years. He’ll be back, franchised again if nesc.
I said the other day I think Nnamdi will surprise Adam Schefter and a lot of people and re-sign with the Raiders.
However, I get the feeling Huff is gone. Probably to the Cowboys. That would be a shame. FS for the Raiders is a tough, demanding gig, and Michael Huff has been playing some damn good football.
Micael Bush might be gone looking for more carries and a possible starting job elsewhere.

Seymour, Nnamdi, Miller, and Wimbley all should be re-signed.
Gallery and Satele probably won’t cost a whole lot to re-sign. If they ask for too much money, neither guy would be a huge loss. But Satele would at the very least be good depth for the C position, and Gallery has been instrumental to Veldheer’s progress at LT.
Loper, Eugene, Cartwright and John Henderson could all get one-year deals.
I’d like to see Huff and Bush back, but I’m not going to hold my breath on that. They’ll want big money and the Raiders’ will have other priorities.
January 17th, 2011 at 8:06 pm

January 17th, 2011 at 8:14 pm
It’s hard to find a good, consolidated list of free agents unfortunately.
If Baltimore is stupid enough to not sign Ngata to a massive long-term deal and the Raiders got him somehow (really doubt this happens), I wouldn’t even care if Seymour left. Ngata is probably the best lineman in football right now.

January 17th, 2011 at 8:21 pm
Nah,
I don’t see Baltimore allowing Ngata to go anywhere. He’ll be tagged, if such a thing exists in the new CBA.
I like our D-line rotation the way it is and hope they are able to keep it intact. I really liked bringing Wauffle back from NYG last year. I hope he is retained as well.
He did a good job, along with Seymour’s veteran presence of getting those young D-lineman to play some tough football most of the time. Really brought out the best in TK as well.

January 17th, 2011 at 8:30 pm
Hey, priesttj, defender of all things Al Davis, your repetitive and facile comment that Davis knows more than anybody here (i.e., on this blog) is, of course, entirely beside the point. Al’s recent track record of colossal failure is the direct result of him not knowing as much as the other GMs in the league, namely those who operate real professional franchises in New England, Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, Atlanta…etc. So this does little to support your argument that Davis still is “operating at the top of his game.” What you argue with, in the final analysis, is little more than wishful thinking unsupported by facts. In other words, friend, you’re biased.
January 17th, 2011 at 8:36 pm
This is a huge offseason for our team cuz it will show if Al is confident in the free agents or wants to blow up the team and go in a new direction. I think Nnamdi is gone. Bush, Routt and Z. Miller might stay if paid. I have no idea about Seymour. He’s a family man and that could affect where he signs.
January 17th, 2011 at 8:36 pm
I am biased and admittedly so, I’ve seen the man work up close and personal so there is sound reason for it. No one is right all the time and I recognize his faults but I also recognize his successes. IMO he has rebiult this team from an old beaten down team to a young vibrant dynamic unit. Capable of greatness. He hired a young punk who conned him and set him back roughly 5 years but it is undone finally.
Hue has the potential to do what Gruden did and some with this group and I for one am looking forward to it. So you can cry poor if you wnat o. I don’t have time for that.
So to each his own……..thanks for listening.
January 17th, 2011 at 8:38 pm
Priest,
How do you propose we use Bush more without sacrificing DMac?
What type of offense do you hope to see?
January 17th, 2011 at 8:39 pm
I would say Nnamdi and Seymour are not as important as Miller and Bush. The main aspect of this team is running and Z. Miller is our best receiver by far. Letting those two go would be a grave miscalculation.
January 17th, 2011 at 8:41 pm

Don’t mean to interject, but weren’t there games last year that Cable said we should have ran the ball more. If we follow this mentality into next year, there will be more touches for both backs.

I just don’t see a scenario that gets Bush enough carries to stay in Silver and Black. He is NOT the player or threat that DMac is so 5-8 carries is about the best he can expect, imo.
January 17th, 2011 at 8:53 pm
233. One with DMC in motion out wide or in the slot.
January 17th, 2011 at 8:56 pm
The same one I had hoped to see this year. I know DMC is a wonderful player but this game at this level is extremely violent. He can dominate for a feww game sand then he starts to run with less violence. Bush is just the opposite defenders literally dodge him once he gets going. I said before the Steeler game if we ran Bush 25 times regardless of score we had a much better chance to win. The success would’ve come in the second half.
If we want to win this thing next year Bush has to carry the load DMC will benefit from that. It will keep him fresh and healthy I would give to DMC 15 times a game running 8-10 times via the pass. I would make him an integral part of the passing game where he is often in openfield where he does the most damage. Everyone else gets their touches after that.
If they follow that formula they’ll win 10-12 games because the skill level of those two are much better than any duo in the league IMO.
Bush can also catch out of the backfield, they both are legitimate phenoms if you split DMC out with Bush in the backfield very few teams can deal with that. Ford Chaz Murphy DHB and ZMiller can play off them I gaurantee you they’ll put up 30 a game.

this is complete insanity AND completely true. with big al, there’s no winning “your way” because that will outshine the boss(see jon gruden). problem is, al’s way hasn’t worked since ‘83 when the game and rules were much different. let’s recap: it’s either al’s way(which doesn’t work) or your way and you get fired. what a sweet gig.

Make that 25-30 a game if the defense can hold them to average 17 per game we’ll win 10 games hands down. No onw team can match the speed and talent on this team if it’s utilized right.

JHill,
With respect to Bush v. DMC, they are more like complimentary players. Smash and Dash. They could both easily get 20 carries each. Especially when you consider our wr corp. In fact they SHOULD get at least 20 carries each because they are the driving force of this offense. You look at other teams around the league with comparable backs, they always run it in the high 30’s.
January 17th, 2011 at 9:02 pm
Jhill that is darnnear laughable you have no idea what Bush is capable of. He just does it differently he uses power, DMC uses speed.
January 17th, 2011 at 9:09 pm
245. DMC uses speed and power. He’s not a small Rb and I agree, when he’s dinged, not the same cat, but when he’s not, he’s finishing with violence. Ask alot of Safeties who tried to stop him this year.
Bush on the other hand (no pun intended) was out with a broken thumb and we all know about his busted leg.
No real way to know if is even CAPABLE of taking the amjority of snaps.
January 17th, 2011 at 9:12 pm
I hope and think HJ is going to do a fine job as HC of the Raids.
Enjoyed reading the reports of him taking over the practices during pre-season. If Corkran and Jerry are to be believed, Hue’s banter motivated the players and kept things lively.
Although some here ridiculed Hue for being a butt kisser during his ‘Coach Davis’ presser/interview, I thought he came off as being well spoken, respectful and personable. I like the guy.
Also noticed that Hue seemed to interract well with the players when he was shown discussing things with them on the sidelines during games. The man seems to have the ability to get your attention. He’s animated and energetic and appears to be a good, confident teacher.
One critique though. There was more than one occasion where plays seemed late coming in from the sideline and the Raids blew quite a few time outs this year due to this tardiness, lack of comminication or indecisiveness. This is definitely an area for improvement.
Alot of the fans here have rebuked Hue for using the reverse way too frequently in 2010. I’m going to go against the grain here, and say I think for the most part those reverses were very succesful and it was refreshing to see the Raids have somewhat of a ’signature’ or ‘go to’ play in the arsenal for a change. The offense not only scored more points than we’ve seen since forever, it also seemed on the cusp of actually developing an identity.
Not a bad achievement considering Hue was saddled with JaJason at QB, an OL that is urine-poor at pass blocking and a less than stellar performance from the WRs.
Moving forward, Hue and Al must finalize the staff for 2011, and then decide what needs to be done personnel wise in the draft and free agency.
Can the moves made recently be construed as a lack of stability (as Jerry seems to think) or even dysfunction ? Maybe. But stability isn’t a good thing when you haven’t had resounding success. 8-8 is mediocrity. Yes, a step up from the sewer we descended into – but nothing to rest your laurels on. In my mind, things are falling into place nicely and the prospects for this franchise are greater than they have been in quite some time.
Of course, there’s still the elephant in the room which must be addressed – and that’s somehow, someway, finding and bringing a franchise QB to Oaktown.
JaJason sucks.
January 17th, 2011 at 9:14 pm
Besides Marshawn Lynch’s run, the final TD DMC had on Jacksonville was the best run of the year. I like Bush, we don’t use him as much as we should, but he ain’t no Dmac. Not tryna argue, just my opinion.
January 17th, 2011 at 9:14 pm
Priest,
Yes,
Bush is an excellent receiver out of the backfield. Maybe re-signing him should be even more of a priority than I thought.
Hell, I almost forgot DMac missed the finale vs KC with another occurance of turf toe.
Turf toe nearly derailed the beginning of McFadden’s Raider career. It so limited his effectiveness that about half of Raider Nation seemingly turned on the kid. He was a bust who was soft and tripped and fell over blades of grass and white lines on the field. He had skinny legs and would never be able to make it as a running back in the NFL. He was weak, and the only way the Raiders can possibly salvage the 4th overall bust was to move him to WR.
Well, this year we saw what a healthy McFadden could do. The guy was explosive. Punished would be tacklers with a devestating stiff arm. Led the league with explosive runs of 20+ yards.
However, that he suffered a recurrence of turf toe has to be worrisome. Hopefully it doesn’t become a chronic thing.
Maybe the Raiders do need to do everything possible to keep Michael Bush in Silver and Black. If not just for precautinary measures. Although the dude is a talent in his own right.
January 17th, 2011 at 9:14 pm
I know he can maybe YOU don’t that big dude is dominant and is as capable of going for 1500 yards plus as anyone in this league. he just hasbn’t been given the chance by some stupid coaches. I trust him to carry the loas more than I do DMC he gets hurt too much. If not for that busted thumb on his strong hand he would’ve gone for 1,500+ and DMC 1,000. Both can go 70 yards Bush just runs over people. DMC runs by them.
Two truly great backs.

You’re lying to yourself son the Cowboys just simplified the offense they didn’t need the majority of the playbook. The fact that you don’t know football or undestand concepts is not my fault. All these coaches come from the same family tree.

Bush is not going to get 20 carries with a healthy DMac. That is just not realistic.
January 17th, 2011 at 9:22 pm
priest u need to give that dmc bush stuff a rest. when did dmc prove to run with less violence? u mean the the games where the oline didnt block for either back? u are a bush fan and feels he should carry the ball more than dmc tho he proved YOU wrong. bush should get more rushes and catches as should dmc. dmc is your featured back and really should be the main guy in the offense. he should touch the ball over 300 times like priest holmes use to. bush had 158 carriers in about 14 games which isnt enuff. if we convert more 1rst downs and to’s on defense we will get them more touches. dmc dominated this year and u still wanna relegate him to some complimentary back. dude is a stud that shouldnt be held back.
January 17th, 2011 at 9:23 pm
Re post 240. I like the combo of McFadden and Bush. McFadden’s best games were when he carried less than 20 times but always broke off a couple of long runs. He needs to be involved in the passing game much more especially on the perimeter with Bush at running back. Bush and McFadden need to be in the game at the same time much more often. When will DHB be relegated to his rightful spot: 4th or 5th receiver, at best.
Re post 230. The Raiders need to become something resembling a multi-million dollar organization not the current mom and pop grocery store operation. Al wants to win but he wants to do it all by his lonesome. Does he even own a computer with internet access? I know he owns an overhead projector.

Raiderman99,
Good post. Totally agree about Campbell. He has a moment here and there but won’t push the ball downfield consistently enough to make this a legit passing attack.
I feel like Vince Young is the best option for what’s available to us. Didn’t follow McNabb at all this year, but consensus is he’s done.
One more thing is many have been in here ripping Cable for starting Grads over Campbell. Let’s get it straight though, Grads is > Campbell.
January 17th, 2011 at 9:29 pm
dmc also runs over people. that stiff arm was considered the best in college and we saw why. keep both backs and make them top priority on offense. id like to see both guys get 250 carries a piece. then add on the receiving abilities of both and u would have the best rb duo. i think bush would be a
1400 yard rusher but so can dmc be 1.

If you like what you saw from those offenses that’s what you’ll see from the Raiders next year

You GOOFBALL. No he didn’t. Turner and Saunders were both assts at USC, and both came into the league as WR coaches. Saunders had nothing to do with Turner being OC at Dallas. Al became OC tens years AFTER Norv became one.

DMAC, despite missing 3 games, was a Top 5 RB in the NFL = All Pro E-L-I-T-E !!! These numbers don’t lie:
* Rushing yards per game: 89.0 (4th-best in NFL)
* Total scrimmage yards: 1,664 (5th-best in NFL)
* Scrimmage yards per game: 128.0 (2nd-best in NFL)
* Yards per carry: 5.2 (3rd-best in NFL, minimum 130 carries and minimum 10.0 carries per game)
* Total TDs: 10 (9th-best in NFL)
* 100-yard rushing games: 6 (5th-best in NFL)
* 20-plus-yard carries: 14 (1st in NFL)
* 40-plus-yard carries: 4 (2nd-best in NFL)
* Receiving yards by a RB: 507 (6th-best in NFL)
* Receiving yards per game by a RB: 39.0 (2nd-best in NFL)
* How consistent was McFadden when he was healthy? Well, out of 13 games played, he rushed for less than 89 yards only 4 times. By comparison, Peyton Hillis of the Browns played in 16 games, rushed for 20 more yards on the season than DMAC (1,177 to 1,157), but he had 9 games in which he failed to rush for at least 60 yards. More of a bruising-style runner, definitely more proven than Bush, media darling for the Pro Bowl, not as productive or consistent as DMAC.
* DMAC was the only NFL RB to record 4 TDs in a single game in 2010, earning him AFC Offensive Player of the Week in Week 7. And his 3-TD outburst in Jacksonville made him one of only three players since 1950 to have two rushing TDs of at least 35 yards and one receiving TD of at least 60 yards in a single game.
* DMAC’s 1st-down rushing percentage was a respectable 20.2% (18th in the NFL), but when you factor in the field-position changing explosion runs (he led the league in 20-yard-plus and 30-yard-plus runs, and was second in 40-yard-plus runs) — he was an undeniable force who flip-flopped field position more than any other RB in the NFL.
* Fumbles? 3 (this was 20th in the NFL, tied with a bunch of other RBs; solid for a guy who admittedly put the ball on the ground at a high rate in his first two seasons).
WE’VE GOT BUSH: Prior to the season finale in KC, Michael Bush’s two longest plays from scrimmage — a 50-plus-yard reception against Seattle and a 24-yard run at San Diego — were both fluke, busted plays where he was in the right place at the right time. The big reception against the ‘Hawks was a thrice-defelcted pass that wound up in his hands, and the 24-yard run against the Chargers was after JC pitched the ball to him in the flat after a pass play broke down. Good for him being opportunistic and in the right place at the right time, but his two best plays thru 15 games were busted flukes.
Fast-forward to KC in Week 17, and he had three rushing plays of 20-plus yards. But I was there, and he did not get touched one time on any of those three plays. Hey, he had a heckuva game, but Oakland dominated that d-linre all day and DMAC goes for 200 with those 23 or 25 carries and 3 scores on that day. Bush did have a couple of really nice catches out of the backfield that day, and those stood out more to me than the runs he had.
SUMMARY: Giving Bush the same attempts or even half as much as DMAC is like suggesting Gerhart should get the same or half of AP’s workload, or someting ridiculous along those lines.
Facts are stubborn things, and you can’t just wish them away or draw conclusions that run contrary without being held to serious ridicule.
