Fit for print _ the Jackson hire

My news story about Hue Jackson becoming the 17th coach of the Raiders.
Columnist Cam Inman wonders when Jackson will be fired.
Press conference today at 1:15 p.m., (PST). Lunch at noon (usually very good barbecue for head coaching hires). In the finest tradition of freeloading media, if the Raiders are offering lunch, I’m obligated to eat it.
TWITTER CHATTER
Ravens Insider Aaron Wilson reports on his Twitter account that Al Saunders, Wilbert Montgomery, Chuck Pagano and Wade Harman are possibilities for Jackson’s staff with the Raiders. For Baltimore, Saunders was an offensive consultant, Mongtomery coached running backs, Harman tight ends and Pagano the secondary.
Pagano, a former defensive backs coach for the Raiders before leaving to become defensive coordinator at North Carolina in 2007, would likely be a candidate for defensive coordinator.

Jackson hire means continuity. Glad about DC change. If it was close the D usually lost game. O did great w/ no line and mediocre QB. McFad actually got used right. Draft was good. Hope same guy makes picks this year. We need WR’s, O lineman, and D backs. Outside of Asumgjskhsiga they sucked.

Hey Jerry:
A big question for HUE (ok davis)…
Will the team run HUE’S offense and will Saunders call plays from that framework? Or…will the team have to endure yet another change in offensive philosophy and terminology?
This is not a trivial point!
I really hope the former. No offense to JC but hes not too quick on the uptake (see his Week 1 deer-in-the -headlights performance for more gory details).
Saunders tweaking and adding wrinkles–>good plan. I just hope its NOT a wholesale change. Why would you go that route given last season’s success? Then again, this is old mad-man Al we are talking about here so anything goes especially if it makes ZER0.0 SENSE.
Hope the media blasts Davis a few times later today.
He more than deserves it and I am looking forward to seeing him make a fool of himself again.

Hue Jackson could shake up Ravens’ staff
Shortly after Hue Jackson was announced as the Oakland Raiders’ new head coach, ESPN reported that he would hire Ravens senior offensive assistant Al Saunders as his offensive coordinator.
Saunders has been in the NFL for 27 years, coaching for San Diego, Kansas City, St. Louis and Washington before joining the Ravens in 2009.
As The Sun’s Mike Preston speculated Monday, Jackson could also be interested in other Ravens assistants like running backs coach Wilbert Montgomery, secondary coach Chuck Pagano or tight ends coach Wade Harmon.

Strength and Conditioning – Brad Roll

437 Hamstring injuries and Brad Roll is the 7th guy dismissed? He shoulda been fired around week 3!
January 18th, 2011 at 7:22 am
Chuck Pagano………new D coach??
January 18th, 2011 at 7:22 am
Chuck Pagano is the name I am hearing for DC. If he can get Mike Huff to play like he is even worthy of carrying Ed Reeds jock to practice I say that is a good hire!
January 18th, 2011 at 7:23 am
I’d like to keep Tollner, Hackett, Skipper & Henry on the offensive staff.
I’d like to keep Waufle, Biekert, Washington & Ross on the defensive staff.

January 18th, 2011 at 7:28 am
Fact is that Jerry is accurately pointing out that this will be yet another press conference where the Raids introduce yet another HC, and that as expected Hue will promise great things to come and Al will agree.
How you translate that to ‘Hue is a significant downgrade’ eludes me, but that must be because us ‘retards’ just aren’t as smart as ‘rockstars’.
Interesting that you think I’m the one putting words into Jerry’s mouth, when it’s actually YOU that’s doing precisely that.
Jerry hasn’t said that Hue is a significant downgrade. He hasn’t even hinted at that.
You’re the only one that’s said that Jerry thinks Hue is a significant downgrade.

Mike White, Tom Cable Art Shell, Joe Bugel or Rob Ryan = Hue Jackson
you’re welcome
January 18th, 2011 at 7:31 am
Here’s a repost for you ‘Rockstar’.
===================================
I hope and think HJ is going to do a fine job as HC of the Raids.
Enjoyed reading the reports of him taking over the practices during pre-season. If Corkran and Jerry are to be believed, Hue’s banter motivated the players and kept things lively.
Although some here ridiculed Hue for being a butt kisser during his ‘Coach Davis’ presser/interview, I thought he came off as being well spoken, respectful and personable. I like the guy.
Also noticed that Hue seemed to interact well with the players when he was shown discussing things with them on the sidelines during games. The man seems to have the ability to get your attention. He’s animated and energetic and appears to be a good, confident teacher.
One critique though. There was more than one occasion where plays seemed late coming in from the sideline and the Raids blew quite a few time outs this year due to this tardiness, lack of comminication or indecisiveness. This is definitely an area for improvement.
Alot of the fans here have rebuked Hue for using the reverse way too frequently in 2010. I’m going to go against the grain here, and say I think for the most part those reverses were very succesful and it was refreshing to see the Raids have somewhat of a ’signature’ or ‘go to’ play in the arsenal for a change. The offense not only scored more points than we’ve seen since forever, it also seemed on the cusp of actually developing an identity.
Not a bad achievement considering Hue was saddled with JaJason at QB, an OL that is urine-poor at pass blocking and a less than stellar performance from the WRs.
Moving forward, Hue and Al must finalize the staff for 2011, and then decide what needs to be done personnel wise in the draft and free agency.
Can the moves made recently be construed as a lack of stability (as Jerry seems to think) or even dysfunction ? Maybe. But stability isn’t a good thing when you haven’t had resounding success. 8-8 is mediocrity. Yes, a step up from the sewer we descended into – but nothing to rest your laurels on. In my mind, things are falling into place nicely and the prospects for this franchise are greater than they have been in quite some time.
Of course, there’s still the elephant in the room which must be addressed – and that’s somehow, someway, finding and bringing a franchise QB to Oaktown.
JaJason sucks.
January 18th, 2011 at 7:31 am
Art did fine first time around.
January 18th, 2011 at 7:31 am
Lionel Washington should be fired for filling our defensive backfield with guys who don’t know how to tackle. If I have to watch Huff try to tackle guys with his shoulder for one more season, I’m going to vomit. Routt improved from horrendous to almost adequate, Aso will get out of Dodge and Mitchell and Johnson didn’t exactly put on a tackling clinic this year either. These guys still need to work on the friggin basics?
January 18th, 2011 at 7:31 am
Did Rob Ryan get a haircut and a shave, just to pose for a new press picture?!!
January 18th, 2011 at 7:32 am
Rockstar, I think you should at least give Hue Jackson 4 games before you judge him….that is about how much time it took me to make the call on Cable lol. Actually, I think I had a bad feeling about Cable after the first game he coached, but who is counting?
January 18th, 2011 at 7:33 am
OK so losing the great Tom Cable was a little tough at first, and Hue scares me a little with his cuteness.
But now we got Saunders probably calling plays and a huge core of the Ravens coaching staff coming along too?
Well I’ll be damned, Al may have something going here.
January 18th, 2011 at 7:33 am

That Cable quote reminds me of a Seinfeld episode where the chick is shoutin “WE’RE ALL WINNERS!”.. watchin a marathon or some kinda race.
~
“We expect to be challenging for the playoffs, challenging for our division year in and year out and we’re not getting that done, so to me, that’s a disappointment. There’s either first place or there’s last place and there’s no in between.”
That was a far different tone than the one expressed by Cable, who notably pronounced “you can’t call us losers anymore” after the Raiders capped an 8-8 season by beating AFC West champ Kansas City in the season finale.

That would be the rockstardouchenozzle.

January 18th, 2011 at 8:15 am
Local media on Ravens secondary:
At the start of training camp, the Ravens secondary was considered to be the team’s biggest weakness, even before cornerback Domonique Foxworth tore his ACL. Six months later, pass defense might be an area of strength when the Ravens face the Steelers in the divisional round.
Credit secondary coach Chuck Pagano for getting the most out of this group. Two of the Ravens’ regulars at cornerback — Lardarius Webb and Fabian Washington — are a year removed from major knee surgery. And he has Chris Carr and Josh Wilson playing up to their potential.
It took a few weeks to get Wilson, acquired in late August, integrated into the defense, but he has made up for the loss of Foxworth. Sports Illustrated’s Peter King called Wilson “a godsend.” Wilson saved the day against the Texans, and you rarely see the back of his No. 37 jersey on replays.
The Ravens rank 21st in pass defense, but they have once again been doing that bend-but-don’t-break thing. For example, Carson Palmer threw for 305 yards against the Ravens in Week 17. But the Ravens kept the Bengals out of the end zone in the closing minutes of the 13-7 win.
With eight interceptions in their past three games, the Ravens have been ball-hawking, too.
They picked off Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel three times in last week’s 30-7 wild-card win. The Baltimore defense also shut out Kansas City wideout Dwayne Bowe. The Pro Bowler led the NFL with 15 receiving touchdowns during the regular season, but against the Ravens, he didn’t have a catch of any variety. Bowe wasn’t even targeted, which has been a hot topic in K.C. this week.
“Their defense was schemed around me, to take me out, and that’s exactly what they did,” Bowe told Kansas City reporters on Monday. “It happened, but that’s over.”

Honestly? I think if our run D improved to top 12 or so our secondary would be in real trouble. I think it is VASTLY over-rated, but I also think with our pass rush, and a Top 12 or so run D, our secondary wouldnt be put to task as much, 47+ sacks will hide a lot of deficiencies in the secondary.

After all that, Hue just gets promoted. Like most of us knew was a matter of time, the moment he was hired as OC.
Al Saunders wouldn’t be bad as OC, but I see cheap-a$$ Al just keeping Paul Hackett and Ted Tollner around as de-facto coordinators, since Hue is calling the plays anyways. Hackett should have a good history with Jackson and last year’s success to build on. No reason to bring a new personality into the mix.
As for DC, I really hope Al makes a splash. Marshall had some good momentum and was well liked, so Al needs to replace him with a guy that is going to be innovative and keep pushing the agenda with our defense. Maybe he has Pagano or Moss in mind, which would be great, or promoting Waufle to provide consistency. Just dont get some re-tread caretaker DC.

SS Branch had a bad year, but I think he’s capable of playing better. Bring in someone to push him or outright take his job

January 18th, 2011 at 9:03 am
consistency is definitely a problem with this group, but leading the league in tackles for a loss and 40+ yard plays, spells scheme problems and play-calling problems. Too many lineman attacking the ball and getting out of position. This is the same thing we have been hearing about the Raiders through 3 different D-coordinators and several different roster overhauls: gap discipline. They attack well, but nobody holds up against the cutback lanes, misdirection plays, draws, reverses, screens, etc. We have all-pro talent, but bush league scheme.

ShoNasty is FAR from a simple pass rusher. The run defense went to another level when we finally stopped playing around and made him the full time starter, lol. I know, I know, it was Scott’s injury that got him the gig.
I tend to think that Wimbley and Groves will be a lot better in year 2 of playing OLB. They certainly got better as the year went on.

———————
There’s not a lot that can be done personnel-wise, although I still believe that in the system Al wants to run, having a very good #2 CB is pretty much a necessity. Routt improved last season, but still isn’t very physical and gives up crucial plays.
In addition, the Raiders could use a WLB who is better in coverage as well as being a good run-stopper. Groves and Goethel are good players, but they can’t be matched up against RBs, WRs, and TEs consistently.
The biggest thing this defense can do to improve is to start playing gap discipline (the lack of gap discipline is why cutback runners do so well against the Raiders defense, and why the Raiders are still so susceptible to the big play), and to start blitzing with Wimbley, Groves, Asomugha, Mitchell, and nickel CBs more often (and get better at playing zone coverage behind).

Houston, Kelly, Big Sey and Shaugnessy is a great starting group, with Bryant for depth, but depending on the health and contract status of “Big” John Henderson, we need to consider some stout DT’s in the draft (since FA is an uncertainty). We also need another Shaugnessy type DE for depth. After Shaugnessy and Houston, all we have is pass-rushing specialists, and that is where the softness against the run is taking place.

Not so sure about that. We do have most of the LB’s, but we would need another ILB next to McPain, and the others may need to put on some weight. As far as the D-line we would need a NT for sure, and maybe another 3-4 DE. Houston can hold down one side, but who’s gonna play the other? Kelly ain’t a good fit, Seymour would be good for another year or two, but he may be gone. SnoNuff would be a fish out of water. Scott would be a back-up OLB. Bryant=gone. Henderson=back-up NT.

We’re speculating on how we can improve RRS.
Groves and Wimbley were playing 4-3 OLB for the first time EVER. They certainly had there moments of looking like 1st time LBs. At the same time, they had some really nice moments at OLB. Wouldn’t have a problem if things stayed just like they were as like I said earlier, I expect them to be better year 2 in the position.
BUT …
I think we could use some more speed at DE attacking the LOS. I love Houston and ShoNasty at the DE positions though, so I’m kinda torn.
I think my 5 year rant on installing the 3-4 is the only option here, lol.

We have the same kind of line that befuddled the Pats in the Superbowl two years ago; big, active guys at all 4 spots that can get after you and stop the run.
Where we have some personnel “misappropriation” is at LB, where it seems we have stockpiled 3-4 OLB’s for whatever reason.

When asked by ESPNDallas.com’s Calvin Watkins whether the team would listen to trade offers for Dez Bryant, a member of the Cowboys front office said he “would think about it.”
Former Cowboy Patrick Crayton has said the team let Bryant “get away with a lot of stuff” in his rookie season, and, according to NFC East blogger Matt Mosley, Bryant “was reportedly late to several meetings during the season and didn’t exactly commit the playbook to memory.” Still, we’re not taking this report too seriously, as the Cowboys knew there were character concerns with Bryant when they drafted him and are extremely unlikely to deal such a talented young wideout.

Quite frankly, I still see Waufle as the front-runner to becoming our next DC. He has a history with Al, has already worked with the players for a year, and his group was by far the most successful last year. All those inflated rushing stats from 40+ yard plays? Those fall on the LB’s and DB’s, the line did its job.

Mike Shanahan has long been intrigued by Russell, he worked him out during the season and Redskins coaches told me Russell was impressive. Shanahan is not afraid of a gamble, and has at times even seemed to court controversy with his handling of the McNabb and Albert Haynesworth situations. I could see the Redskins taking a chance on Russell. Some have linked Young to his hometown Houston Texans as a possible backup, but I’m not sure Gary Kubiak wants that burden as he begins another season still firmly on the hot seat (three straight years and running!).

Rather have Waufle keep working with his D-Linemen and keep developing them and make them better. They should be quite dominant next year, especially if they can get a younger version of John Henderson in the draft somewehere. The DT position looks to be deep in this years upcoming draft.
Pagano would be good choice as DC I think, just as long as he mixes it up.
January 18th, 2011 at 9:41 am
Tyvon Branch had a lot of bad plays that went for big yardage; he also led all NFL DB’s in tackles (dont quote me on that). There is something very wrong about those two stats, I think it has much more to do with what is going on in front of him, then his level of play. But his play against the pass was putrid at times; he is either still learning how to diagnose and will improve with experience; or his future is at something other than SS in the NFL. Too early to tell.

Impending free agent CB Fabian Washington does not expect to be back with the Ravens in 2011.
“What am I going to do here? I don’t know what I’m going to do,” Washington said. He played sparingly down the stretch after losing his starting job to Josh Wilson at mid-season. Washington has been an injury-prone disappointment since the Ravens traded for him in 2008.

January 18th, 2011 at 9:50 am
I don’t think the struggles on defense were Groves’ fault at all. I think he’s actually a pretty good player and nice addition to this team.
He’s just not ideal to be left in coverage as often as this team asks its linebackers to cover. Especially against RBs and WRs.
Teams with slightly different 4-3 schemes get it done with much less talent at OLB.
Again, it comes down to scheme more than anything. Hell, scheme is the biggest reason I think the Raiders need to find a CB much better than Routt. It’s not that Routt is a bad player. It’s that he’s not physical enough to be consistent being targeted as much as he is A) playing across the field from Nnamdi and B) playing man-to-man all the time.
If the Raiders simply implemented a 4-3 scheme more like the ones the Saints and Giants use? I think we’d be looking at a pretty solid defensive team.
January 18th, 2011 at 9:50 am

January 18th, 2011 at 9:52 am
Is Al Saunders really a good thing? Isn’t he the guy that everyone gripes about his play book being way to big? It seems like Jason Campbell said at one time that he didn’t do well with Saunders because his playbook had way to many plays in it… I could be wrong.
And why do I keep reading internet chatter that Al wants to make Peyton Manning the highest paid QB in the league wearing Silver and Black? Doubt it would ever happen, I still think that we are going to have VY starting hear next year.
January 18th, 2011 at 9:53 am
Cam Iman is a Raider hater but it doesnt mean he wrong on his article.
“Bigger question: Why would Jackson want a job proven to have such a short shelf-life? Answer: Jackson hasn’t had a head coaching job in his life. He’s presumably never clocked in for work at his new pay scale.
Only 32 of these jobs exist. Check that. None of the other 31 NFL coaching spots compare to the Raiders’ work conditions.
If Jackson thrives, he will reverse a troubling trend and thus deserve major recognition that he could parlay into a better job (see: Gruden, 2002).
He hasn’t stayed in one NFL locale for more than three years. That leaves him at least 24 months still to serve on Al-catraz.”

Eevrything u said is true

Scott is terrible, DMac.
Groves can take his place as the DE on 3rd down, imo.
Which takes us to backup DE. Moss getting a look see at DE on passing downs is not a problem for me. I’m not saying it’s a solution, but upgrading from Scott is not that hard to do.
You don’t like Moss? Fine by me. Draft a DE in rd 3 then, but get Scott the F off my team.
January 18th, 2011 at 10:30 am
Scott & Moss can both stick.
Davis, Howard, Williams & R Brown will compete for 2 or 3 dual backup LB & special teams spots
the situation gets a little MORE cloudy if Huff gets re-signed and the new DC wants to give Mike Mitchell some snaps at LB.

January 18th, 2011 at 10:32 am
This was predicted by everyone, no shocker there. Not sure how I feel about Saunders as OC..I kinda like that little bratt McDaniels to be honest..Oh well, I digress..
I hate when you guys talk about food on here while Im at work, makes me freakin hungry as all heck…
So this is what I am having for dinner tonight, its the recipe by my most favorite chef Anthony Bourdain, and one of the only ones he actually makes for himself when he is at home. Finally got my veal stock today…here you go..
INGREDIENTS
4 8-ounce steaks
2 ounces olive oil
2 ounces freshly cracked peppercorns (crushed but not ground to powder!)
4 ounces sweet butter
1 ounce good Cognac
4 ounces strong, dark veal stock (something to keep in your freezer)
Salt and pepper
EQUIPMENT
Heavy skillet
Kitchen tongs
Wooden spoon
Serving platter
DIRECTIONS FOR STEAK
1. Preheat the oven to 425ºF. Moisten the meat very slightly with oil, then dredge each of the steaks in the crushed peppercorns to thoroughly coat. Don’t be shy with the pepper.
2. Heat the remaining oil in the skillet over high heat. Once the oil is hot, add 2 ounces, which is half of the butter. Place the steaks in the pan and brown on all sides, about 5 minutes per side.
3. Transfer the pan to the oven and cook until desired doneness, about 5 to 7 minutes for rare, 10 minutes for medium rare, and so on. Remove from the oven and remove the steaks from the pan to rest. Have I told you yet to always rest your meat after cooking? I’ve told you now.
DIRECTIONS FOR SAUCE
1. Return the skillet to the stovetop and carefully stir in the Cognac. As much fun as it is to create a column of flame as you add flammable material to an incredibly hot pan, it’s not really desirable or necessary — especially in a home kitchen. Unless you’re a pyromaniac, I recommend carefully adding the Cognac to the still-hot pan off the flame, stirring and scraping with the wooden spoon to get every scrap, every peppercorn, every rumor of flavor clinging to the bottom of the pan.
2. Now place the pan on the flame again and cook it down a bit, by about half. Stir in the veal stock and reduce over medium heat until thick enough to coat the back of a spoon. Whisk in the remaining butter and season with salt and pepper. Serve immediately with French fries or sautéed potatoes.

You guys think Al is siding with Jerry Jones regarding this revenue sharing issue? On one hand, I dont see Al as the type of guy that would want to cancel a season, but on the other hand, his off-season moves, point to someone who is preparing for a cancelled season. Also, Al is no friend of the NFL, I just can’t imagine him siding with Goodell and wanting everyone to share the wealth while capping the amount Al can spend on his players.
Today’s presser will probably be the same old horse and pony show, but I hope if Al makes an appearance, that these reporters grill him on his thoughts about the CBA. Al has been around the league for longer than anyone else calling shots in those meeting, he should have a very unique perspective on this.
Jerry, please press Al on the CBA discussion. Nobody wants to hear recycled quotes about the greatness of the Raiduhs and how Jackson will be the one who gets us back there. Heard it every other year for far too long.

BCZ,
Hue Jax had an opportunity to give Johnnie Lee some significant playing time and passed in favor Darrius Heyward-Bey. Not sure if this was mandated by Al Davis or not.

It’s a great day to be a Raiders fan! Isn’t it?!
BBB — Right on the money w/ the CBA questions today. There isn’t another owner in the League who understands contracts, and the “feel” of negotiations, better than Al Davis. He’s seen and heard it all…and he’s helped save this here NFL from itself a few times.
DK — If it’s Saunders, I’d feel pretty comfortable w/ him calling plays IN CONJUNCTION w/ HueJax…but only because I know Saunders and HueJax have a good (and familiar) working relationship. Saunders is an outstanding “consultant,” and HueJax is a dynamic play-caller who’s getting better as we go along. Don’t think I’d be comfy with ANY other OC tinkering with what HueJax has been able to do so far. Whomever is chosen, HueJax must keep firm oversight on the O.
Just like last Spring, Al and his staff are going to do the right things this off-season…naming HueJax early as HC is one of the right things. Count on Al getting it done again this year — no matter how strange the off-season or resulting season may become.
January 18th, 2011 at 11:07 am
ochocinco would be a good fit for Oakland. His antics are fun and harmless, Al could care less about a player doing that, just so long as he produces. The Bay Area is much more tolerant of that than the conservative mid-west; he would be a star here.
Chad reminds me of Schilens, except healthy, which has been the missing ingredient in our passing game the last 2 years…and we really need a vet WR that can teach these young guys through action, not coaching. Murphy, Schilens, Ford, DHB; these guys are all super young and still learning their craft and if JLH is their veteran leader we are really in trouble. A professional pass catcher to teach the nuances of NFL route-running is invaluable.

Sent this email to Jerry, Corkran, Poole, Inman and Peterson regarding questions they need to ask at todays presser below:
To Jerry and the others. Ask REAL questions please.
After you and the others stuff your faces with the free lunch. Please ask questions to Hue regarding the plan on keeping IN HOUSE free agents and adding a possible #1 WR. Ask him if he will remain the primary play caller also (which he should). Ask the old man Al regarding the CBA and potential for lockout.
Also, ask Hue if the new Defensive Coordinator will be allowed to implement some more 3-4 looks.
Thanks guys and have a nice lunch! haha
January 18th, 2011 at 11:11 am
This team was good enough to be 9-7 minimum last year and should have won the AFC West.
In my mind, Al thinks we were a good coach away from being a contender. I think we’ll rely on young players maturing and maybe a LB or two, DL for depth. Maaaaaaybe a WR, but I wouldn’t expect a big splash in FA.
We still gotta sign our two best players (although I think we will).
January 18th, 2011 at 11:12 am

If Ochocinco practices as hard as people say he does, I’d sign him for that reason alone. Somebody’s gotta show our young WR’s how it’s done
Ochocinco, Ford, and Ch….Cha….man I can’t even jinx it by saying his name out loud

Bring in “Ochocinco” (give him 85 and make DHB change numbers again – hey! #81 isn’t being used!). The, we’ll have both experience and quality depth, with a young upside … that would work! Get Ocho away from that cancerous T.O.

Wouldn’t it be nice for these guys train in the offseason to be a DEs than a LBs? I cannot imagine that you wouldn’t train differently to play pass rushing DE than a LB? Also, I have more hope in Moss than the rest of the former 1st round busts Davis has picked up over the years. At least this guy has the crutch that things did not work out b/c he was playing the wrong position, instead of just needing a fresh start.

Actually…there are many of us who not only read, but we can right, too! Most grown-ups are over wearing Halloween costumes…especially more than once a year.
And…most fans really do attend games for the GAME, and not to play dress-up (even though you’d think otherwise, watching on TV).

You can look it up and the evidence will back it up. Even our first win against KC, Hue Jack didnt consistently use DMAC and hence we struggled. In games we can’t run the ball, we struggled offensively. 5 out of 8 losses Hue Jack’s offense was a no show and you can tie it directly to a lack of running game.

He was stripped of his play calling duties. Al Davis personally chose his new OC (play caller) as well as DB Coach & DL Coach. The Raiders didn’t deny any media reports that he had been fired. Then we find out that he was fined for 10 game checks during the season
why are you under the impression that TC could just do as he pleased? or that he was in Al’s good graces?

(I hate and admire the Pats) A Double-TE is a great offense against the 3-4 and would really help out the running game and give JC another short yardage target. More teams are moving to the 3-4 defense and the Patriots just happened to choose this scheme?

Its called respect. Earned respect. Wether you choose to aknowledge it or not. DEAL.
January 18th, 2011 at 1:10 pm
why are you under the impression that TC could just do as he pleased? or that he was in Al’s good graces?
——————————————————-
When did I say that?
In Tom Cable’s 3 years here, he had some of “his guys” on the roster. Be it when he came in as Oline coach, the offseason before last, or what have you.
Are you now saying he didn’t clean up the locker room?
Al Davis decides the entire 53 man roster?
And I certainly believe Hue brought in some of his guys this past offseason. If you want to tell me it was Al and Marshall with no imput from Cable of the defensive changes, well … I’ll buy that, lol.

Stay tuned for the Bruce Campbell announcement.

January 18th, 2011 at 1:33 pm

January 18th, 2011 at 1:33 pm
What is Cam Newton’s mothers name?
January 18th, 2011 at 1:34 pm
I think Hue’s for real. I also think he’ll inevitably clash with Al, and that he’s blowing smoke up Al’s ass right now with this praise for Campbell. It won’t go swimmingly, but I think Hue can be the next Gruden. Just don’t entertain any job offers, Hue.
January 18th, 2011 at 1:34 pm

I like Hue, but I’m not seeing sunshine. He’s going to clash with Al. You can tell by that personality. Hue is a natural born leader and sharp as a blade, you can just hear it in him. He’s going to run the team bunker style like Gruden did and like Kiffin tried to do. Good thing is I think he knows how to work Al better than Kiffin did, which isn’t hard to do considering that Kiffin couldn’t have been worse at it.

Wow he almost traded Asomugha to the Jets, but Asomugha wanted to stay with the Raiders.
January 18th, 2011 at 1:46 pm
Things I detected from the Live press Conference.
- Campbell is our QB at least for next season.
- Wauffle stays where he is or might even get promoted to DC.
- The possibility of a veteran wr has diminished. Al sees Chaz as a big possesion wr, Louis as a good #2, DHB and Ford as great deep threats.
- Zack Miller will be back
- Not mentioning Asomugha could just be a negotiation strategy.
- Al Davis hates the broncos.
- Hue is the right choice, I do believe this will work out.
I’ll wait for Jerry to post the rest of the conference.
January 18th, 2011 at 1:46 pm
Hue says we are going to be aggressive on defense.

January 18th, 2011 at 1:47 pm
Miller, Seymour, Aso, and Bush free agents. Bad team management. You don’t want that many good players’ contracts running out at once. Another reason Al needs a cap specialist, like how Bruce Allen used to be. You either want your best players feeling at home, or just trade them already. Don’t leave them in limbo. And WTF us up with that baby in the background? Is that Hue’s kid?

Al hasn’t made a decision about his draft picks yet.
January 18th, 2011 at 2:14 pm
AD heard my comment and started talking about how we need a new stadium now, but i doubt that Oakland will demo the coliseum to build a modern stadium, whats the line at Vegas for us going back to LA once they get the new stadium build, and stay there until Oakland gets a new stadium, and just teeter totter between cities endlessly?
January 18th, 2011 at 2:15 pm
Lol Al did hire a general manager. He snuck in through the back door.
January 18th, 2011 at 2:15 pm

The old man sounds pretty stroked-out. And, that baby that we all heard is actually Al’s lunch. As part of his deal with the dark underlord, he is required to drink fresh spinal fluid from an infant at least twice a day.

January 18th, 2011 at 2:36 pm
Before our home opener (and I’ve said this before), I bumped into Cable on Market street…his smoking hot Russian prostitute had him sweating like a priest at altarboy.com.
Don’t blame him for having being with that broad, but I couldn’t believe dude was chilling with a hooker at 5pm the day before our home opener.
Chucky would’ve been up until 5am prepping for a game.

January 18th, 2011 at 2:36 pm

—”The Gaston Gazette’s Steve Reed speculates that free agent QB Billy Volek could be an option for the Panthers in 2011. Both of the primary newspapers covering the team believe the Panthers will bring in a veteran QB as a fallback option to Jimmy Clausen. Volek makes sense because he worked with new offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski in San Diego the past two years. While the 35-year-old is no team’s idea of a QB solution, he’s at least capable of moving an offense down the field. We can’t say the same for Clausen”—

Why do people trash Al Davis yet still want to be Raiders a fan? Doesn’t make sense. You want things your way, buy your own team.

Al+The Raider Nation = RAIDERS
January 18th, 2011 at 3:33 pm
Al actually mentioned the word fans and how the org needs their support. I think he really wants to win again.
January 18th, 2011 at 3:33 pm
Who was the secret GM, why was it a secret and why is he no longer working for the Raiders? These are haunting questions. Jerry Mac needs to get to work digging this information up.
January 18th, 2011 at 3:34 pm
The GM was Jerr!
January 18th, 2011 at 3:35 pm
The secret GM was Al having fun with the media. Now everyone will be trying to figure out who he was..
January 18th, 2011 at 3:36 pm

all in all seems like hue jack has a vision and a plan.’bout penalties ‘i don’t except negative plays’ said gruden taught him alot at uop. challenges his players to play at a high level .al seems to sound as if he wants to build a dominating defense, with 17 million dollars saved .
January 18th, 2011 at 3:41 pm
Al did a good job with damage control explaining why Cable is no longer the coach. He kind of painted a picture of Cable that isn’t all “rah rah” and that he had his favorites.
January 18th, 2011 at 3:41 pm

So can anybody provide a link to the presser in it’s entirety. From the local feed or something.
NFLN lamely switched right after Hu Jax was announced. They went back to the same ol loop of crap they’d been playing for an hour before the presser.
Sounds like I missed all the good stuff w/ the reporters.

Nope. If he didn’t like the maker, why would he support him by buying his product? The more it doesn’t make sense. It becomes hypocritical.

Product and maker may not be the same. But if there is no maker there will be no product. But still why would you buy a product from someone you hate?
If my father were an 1diot(as you mentioned) and I were a nice guy(not that I’m saying he nor I are any of these things), I wouldn’t not want to be friends with nor trust anyone who would not respect him, even if he’s an 1diot.
You say the raiders are the team you love. The raider team does not always have the same players every year. If they leave do you follow each of them to the next team? If not, why not? Are you a fan of the brand?
A lot of negativity begin with the raider “fans” and then the haters build on it.

The transformation is now complete. After seeing the state of Al’s hands, it is now apparent. Al is now E.T.
Okay, Spielberg, lighten up on the closeups.
January 18th, 2011 at 4:51 pm
In regard to Steve Corkran’s article Al cryptically referred to when addressing the five things that went well in ‘10.
Guess he forgot about the five bad things. Charitably (screws up the punchline) that’s why we all gather here today. . .

January 18th, 2011 at 5:06 pm
I liked when Al’s bad eye opened up when he said “We’re not losers anymore?” You guys called it, Al defenitly did not like that comment from Cable.
