Ochocinco and the Raiders

If Chad Ochcocinco and the Cincinnati Bengals are truly headed for a divorce as speculated on Bengals.com, Hue Jackson’s presence as head coach would seem to make the Raiders a potential destination.

If the team’s own Web site is floating the possibility, there’s probably something there.

When Jackson was hired, Ochocinco said on his Twitter account: “Congratulations 2 Hue Jackson for becoming the Oakland Raiders new head coach. Best receiver coach I ever had.”

Earlier this month, there were these tweets:

“I would not care where Hue Jackson got a job. I would go play for him, run through a wall, jump in front of a bus, etc. u get the point.”

“Man that was the greatest coach I ever had. Hue Jackson would choke me out, cuss me out, just to make sure I was precise on everything.

“It would be refreshing to be with Hue Jackson again. I know I wouldn’t have to worry about being thrown under a bus again.”

The “under the bus” reference has to do with his strained relationship with current Bengals coach Marvin Lewis.

    Jontrain,

do you remember how bad JC was until the 4th quarter?

Honestly, about 100 of his yards and his TD came late in the 4th, when we were down 2 scores and the Colts D softened up a bit.

What JC did against the Titans, Rams, 49ers, Steelers, Broncos, and Colts for 3.5 quarters is par for his career.

    Thus his 26-38 career record.

    How is Ocho a Fake???????

  • JONTRAIN

    The bottom line is this:

We are in a position to make some real upgrades at WR and OL talent wise. ***IF*** we can do that, then JC can be that steady 85-90 QB rating guy, and we can win more games.

It’s just not feasible to me that we can acquire a significant upgrade over JC this offseason, barring an unlikely blockbuster trade.

    Vince Young is the wildcard

  • alex7

I agree JC didn’t throw many picks the final couple of games, but was it because of his awesome accuracy, or his constant checkdowns on 3rd and 9?

When your coaches have to coax you to “cut it loose”,
when you earn the nickname “captain checkdown” in DC,
when you complete 60% of your passes, but most of them are to the RB, FB, or TE

that isn’t someone you can win with, unless it’s 2010, and you play a weak AFC West and NFC West.

  • M Lonetree

    KK,

you made an ignorant statement about Al and the 3-4.
No, Madstork HOF’s don’t come around every day. He was utilized him to the best of his abilities.
Yes, Al can be as mad as any egomaniacal mofo in the world.
But why hate on the old man and why make up crap that isn’t true to fact?
    Is there a purpose?

  • inonewordraider

We have enough talent at all positions except oline (gotta coach em up) and JCampbell is a wild card but I’ll go out on a limb and say he’ll continue to improve under the same system and with improved WR’s. Hue will get us to the next level

  • alex7

JC was 1-5 outside the weak AFC West.

His 1 win was against the Seahawks.

Next year he gets the NFC North and AFC East.

I would call it a “raider meltdown”

The o-line played like card board cut outs on ice skates, and the defense was shreded.

Does that sound like Vince Young is coming here?

  • alex7

    Mistic,

Unfortunately, the NFL plays individual games, NOT random 5-week samples.

He was terrible against the Titans, Rams, 49ers, Steelers, Colts, and Broncos.

Good for him that he had a couple nice games against bottom-pass-D Jaguars and Chiefs teams late in the year.

If only we played weak teams all year long, we’d be fine.

  • M Lonetree

    Oaklifer,

    O-line in 011!

  • alex7

KK, JC went 3-3 in his final 6 starts.

That actually IMPROVES his career win percentage.

Cupcake schedule. #2 run game to help him.

But hey, celebrate if you want.

Yes. But he didn’t press, or make silly throws, which is tough to do. I don’t recall him missing open receivers, tho I could be wrong. He actually had a better game than Manning, statistically. But they were able to run the ball (Dominic Rhodes on every other 1st Down??? Faaakkkk!), but we couldn’t.

If JC started flinging the ball around like Grads, we get blown out that game.

I think we agree that at BEST, JC is a 85-90, steady conservative QB.

Let’s hope Hue can get him to play at that level consistently.

If not, well, JC’s contract only runs thru next year!

  • OAKlifer

Yes M, that was the chant back then and is the chant now I’m a O-line type of guy!!!! LOL believe that was two years ago…..

    Jontrain,

    Vince Young

throws to his WRs better than JC,
has a better winning % than JC,
    turns the ball over less,
    gets sacked less often,
had a 98.6 QB rating this season (JC 84, career avg.)
    is younger than JC,
    runs better,
    oh yeah, wins.

But most on here will remember only that he got benched for being upset that Kerry Collins replaced him (and the team quickly tanked to a 1-5 finish) and won’t want him here.

Because he, you know, wins and is a better QB.

  • alex7

    Jontrain,

except I see that JC gets to that 85 rating by having a couple of 110 games, and a couple of 40 games.

Not steady at all. And that’s par for his career.

I would love if he becomes a stead hand.

But he was unable to string together 3 good games in a row this year. We’ll see though.

  • http://www.pro-football-reference.com/ KoolKell

Sounds like VY is going to Minnesota. JC is the QB. Find a rookie to develop.

  • M Lonetree

    Oaklifer,

yes, I recall well because to me it is most pertinent. Make the O-line excellent (plus the D-line), you make everything else on the football work.

  • alex7

    KK,

yes, he’s a career 84, which ranks you in the bottom half of the league every year.

He’s only gone above 85 ONE time, when he reached all the way to….86.

  • HayesDaze37

    What’s Ocho’s name again? Chad?

Chad would give us everything we ever hoped to get out of Chaz.

At $6M for this option year…with the promise of negotiation for a long-term deal…Chad would be an upgrade of Seymour-like proportions for this team.

JCampbell (whomever) needs every weapon he can get…and Chad is still a top-level, Hall Of Fame talent…regardless of his media-wh@re reputation.

  • alex7

    Lonetree,

don’t the Steelers, Bears, and Packers have some really bad O-lines?

It’s been talked about all year.

They must have something else on those O’s. Hmmm, what is it? :)

  • http://www.pro-football-reference.com/ KoolKell

I think JC is the best overall package the Raiders could have gotten off the scrap heap.

He’s got a good arm, good run ability, good attitude, no personal problems.

Didn’t Davis just tell you people, the Raiders are out of the personal problem business?

  • OAKlifer

Yes I agree the trenches are where the battle is won I think still an upgrade at center would be nice and I think The youngsters Veldheer and Cambbell will be good as “power” type of scheme guys as Mr. “coach” Davis alluded to…

  • PurpleDrank81

Davis also said that he was terrible at Background checks

  • HayesDaze37

$6M this year…followed by a 3-year contract, with a moderate signing bonus, and a number of escalators in it to make its value higher (or not…right, Nnamdi?).

A Hall Of Fame talent — playing at the highest level — at WR again for the Raiders…it’s one of the things this team needs yesterday.

If HueJax truly thinks he can work with Chad, you know Al will be listening.

Tom Brady had one of 111 this year. He lost in the playoffs to one with 75.

  • alex7

Why do you think Davis undervalues the QB position? That is so perplexing to me.

Billy Joe Hobert, Vince Evans, Andrew Walter, Aaron Brooks, Daunte Culpepper, Josh McCown, Jason Campbell.

What does he expect from this?

And who is he seeing win games with these types of bad QBs, unless they have exotic 3/4 defenses, which he’s also allergic to?

  • PurpleDrank81

This offseason is going to be interesting

  • alex7

    KK,

    are you really young?

You do realize Davis is NOT going to ever let us win with an average QB backed by an awesome, swarming, blitz-disguising 3-4 exotic defense.

    You do know that, right?

You also know ANYTHING can happen in a playoff game, and that the best way to GET to the playoff games is with a top QB. You DO believe in math, and correlation, correct?

    alex,

you are really reaching, look again those teams have awesome defenses, they often have the ball with a short field. they dont have to score a ton of points because the defense can win for them.
