Five coaches removed from roster

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Tuesday, January 25th, 2011 at 2:03 pm in Oakland Raiders.

The following assistant coaches were removed from the Raiders’ coaching roster on the club Web site after being there earlier this morning:

Linebackers coach Mike Haluchak, quarterbacks coach Ted Tollner, quartebacks coach Paul Hackett, offensive line coach Jim Michalczik and assistant line coach Chris Morgan.

Al Saunders was added to the roster as offensive coordinator Monday.

Two names who have surfaced with regard to Oakland’s search for a defensive coordinator _ former Raiders defensive coordinator Chuck Bresnahan and Jacksonville defensive line coach Joe Cullen.

Bresnahan, most recently the defensive coordinator of the Florida Tuskers of the UFL, was was the Raiders defensive coordinator in the division title seasons from 2000 through 2002. He worked as Cincinnati defensive coordinator when Hue Jackson coached Bengals wide receivers. A source said Jackson has spoken with Bresnahan, although it’s not known how serious the level of interest is on either side.

According to the Twitter account of Jason LaCanfora of the NFL Network, “Joe Cullen to interview for Raiders DC job in the coming weeks.” Cullen has been a defensive line coach both in college and the NFL.

Note: Appears to be a rogue LaCanfora tweeter on the horizon. It crossed my Tweet deck this afternoon. My fault for picking it up somewhere other than his direct Twitter site.

Coaches who served under Tom Cable who are still listed include Greg Biekert (assistant coach on defense), Willie Brown (squad development), John Fassel (special teams coordinator), Adam Henry (tight ends), Sanjay Lal (wide receivers), Brad Roll (strength and conditioning), Kevin Ross (assistant coach), Kelly Skipper (running backs), Lionel Washington and Mike Waufle (defensive line).

i bet thats what it is….as for raiders in LA, its always a possibilty they have more fans in san diego and in LA….remember rozelle didnt let al take the team in the first place…

Not to mention that fact that pretty much every major company in sf holds season tickets to niners games to hand out to clients/employees. This is also the biggest reason why the Giants were able to build the stadium they had, every company has season tickets. Same reason why the A’s and Raiders struggle to sell tickets.

    One nation under a groove,

Gettin’ down just for the funk of it
    (Good God)

One nation and we’re on the move
    Nothin’ can stop us now
    (Aye aye aye aye aye)
    Feet don’t fail me now

Give you more of what you’re funkin’ for

    Feet don’t fail me now
    Do you promise to funk?
The whole funk, nothin’ but the funk

During Bresnahan’s tenure, the Bengals ranked 28th, 30th, and 25th in yards allowed, out of 32 teams.

This doesn’t inspire confidence. However, we all no Cincy has no talent on the defensive side of the ball.

If I am not mistaken, Chuck was fired during the coaching purge of 2003 and was replaced by Rob Ryan.

Rob Ryan was brought in to install the 3-4 under Norv Turner.

So Chuck may have stayed if not for Norv’s desire to run the 3-4.

Those sorporations are really footing a huge bill because that sucker is half empty every game. But I guess they’re paying for the advertising which makes sense. People are throwing niner tickets away. Like they used to in the late 70′s.

  • priesttj

the same is true for the warriors it’s all corporate money. i get great seats for less than half price.

  • djohnnyg

Only 21 weeks left before pre-season starts.

I’m warming up the grill as we speak.

The economy has killed this market, Only a few have the disposable income to buy season tickets. That’s why evenscalpers are struggling standing around begging people to buy their tickets for something close to face value.

  • djohnnyg

Seems like it’s not just the Raiders as far as bad attendance goes in Oakland. I recall being shocked to hear the A’s attendance during their glory years of the early/mid 70′s. Just barely broke 1 mill.fans and this was a GREAT team.

You guys that live out there know better than me the reason for this, but just out of curiosity is there ANYWHERE Al could move the team and they would get support? As in sell out games?

Not saying Al should move, just curious.

Aquaman, cut the b.s. You’re blaming Breshnehan for the prevent failing on his watch when any 3 year old knows Al Davis is the king of prematurely going to the prevent. He’s died by doing it so many times most fans have lost count. For a more recent example, watch the highlights of SD @ Raiders, 2009.

  • djohnnyg

Wait a sec. I thought Al Davis decides what is run and what isn’t when it comes to the Raider D.???

  • djohnnyg

Why would Breshnahan even consider coming back to the “Oakland Penitentiary”? I thought all coaches can’t wait to get outta here, now we have a guy that will come back?

Just not sure why you’re so down on it (Breshnehan returning as DC). it’s a throwback to the Gruden era.

    …….

Oh, yeah. So would be Anthony Dorsett Jr. and David Dunn. Heck, let’s really make this a Gruden era reunion and bring in…drumroll….Bobby Hoying!

Saying Breshnehan is a throwback to the Gruden era is like having a Cosby Show reunion with the only actor appearing being the guy who played Rudy’s friend, Bud.

I could see the Vikings moving to LA. It’d be the second time a pro franchise moved there.

Named for the states being the home of “10,000 lakes” The Minneapolis Lakers moved there many yrs. ago.

I don’t like the sound of “LA Vikings” though.

  • priesttj

What was Zack Crockett doing with Hue Jackson in that video? he must be scouting for us now, or on the coaching staff one or the other?

  • djohnnyg

Utah “Jazz” has got to be the most mismatched team nick name in sports.

You don’t think hip and jazzy when u think of Utah.

i read a article somewhere that he was scouting for the raiders

The Jazz started off in New Orleans, didn’t they? Being in Utah they should change their names to the Utah Recovering Porn Addicts.

Al Davis in the equation is a deal breaker. He cannot get a new stadium under current management.

Did you see his face on TV? Nobody is going to invest in that.

LA won’t have him back, they’ve made that clear, in statements and City Council resolutions.

  • djohnnyg

Whatever happened to the rumors of Al being in “failing health”? That was like 6 yrs. ago.

To look at him you would think that he actually is.

Not to bum anybody out, but I would’nt be shocked if we woke up one morning and saw the ESPN scroll making “the announcement”.

Not saying it’s gonna happen, just saying I wouldn’t be shocked.

    He did not look well.

  • priesttj

Then why are people doing it everyday. I know several people in sales over there and some aren’t but others are they just need to make the playoffs…………..period

  • djohnnyg

    Winning solves everything in sports.

When Hue said “we will win this division” was he meaning this year, or eventually? Would have been a good follow up question for “Jer”.

  • djohnnyg

Why the Raider hate in LA? Raiders should get some props for bringing a Super Bowl to the town. Something the Rams were unable to do.

And how did they expect to bring in the fans playing at the Coliseum?

  • djohnnyg

I don’t mean to say I don’t get the animosity for the Raiders in LA but the town didn’t exactly roll out the red carpet either.

  • djohnnyg

Boy, the Lakers are destroying the “Recovering Porn Addicts” tonight. Mercy!

  • http://www.aldavissucks.blogspot.com The Real MaddenRaider

You make it sound like all the Raiders did was win Super Bowls in LA. Should a woman stay with a guy who hits her because he once gave her a nice ring? You know what? Don’t even answer that. I forgot what kind of crowd I’m dealing with.

Raccoon, I’m not going anywhere, so you should learn to like me.

  • http://www.aldavissucks.blogspot.com The Real MaddenRaider

    Roethlisberger: drafted
    Rodgers: drafted
    Sanchez: drafted
    Cutler: via trade
    Brady: drafted
    Flacco: drafted
    Ryan: drafted
    Hassleback: via trade

Those are the starting quarterbacks of the final 8 teams this year. Do you notice a pattern?

  • http://www.aldavissucks.blogspot.com The Real MaddenRaider

    Noteworthy-

starting QB of last year’s SB winner, Drew Brees, acquired via free agency. So, it’s not that you can’t win someone who wasn’t homegrown. But you can see what the smart play is.

  • The NEWS

Obviously the top teams have some talent at QB. We’re not going anywhere with Campbell. We need a QB.

Ravens won a QB with Dilfer.
Giants, Raiders, Cards, and Seahawks went to the SB with QBs they didn’t draft.
Saints won a SB with Brees.

Last decade: 6 teams went to SB with QBs they didn’t draft, and 2 won SBs.

  • The NEWS

The QB doesn’t’ have to be drafted. He just has to be good. None of our QBs qualify. LOL

  • djohnnyg

Cincy is saying officially that they have no intention of trading Palmer despite Palmer’s request.

“We will not entertain any requests for a trade for Carson Palmer”.

  • http://www.aldavissucks.blogspot.com The Real MaddenRaider

I guess if your goal is to merely get to the Super Bowl and lose, a QB you didn’t draft gives you a decent shot. If your goal is to win, however, you’re clearly better off drafting a franchise QB.

  • The NEWS

Djohnnyg – They can say that until they’re blue in the face. It’s what they’re supposed to say. Fact is, if they get an offer they like, they pull the trigger. Have no doubt about it.

I forgot to add TB to my prev post. They won it with Johnson.

I’m trying to forget that game!
