i saw that both holmes and edwards are FAs. I think either of those guys would b nice additions to our corps and may come a little cheaper than guys like vjax, ocho or rice.

    Brandon Fusco anyone?

  3. The Dirtee Raccoon Says:

    Rodney Hudson ????

  4. RaiderRockstar Says:

I could really see VY in Silver and Black next year

VY to OchoCinco. That could be fun

    ***

    Tay,

Vince Young is entering the last year of his contract.

He is on pace to make $8.5 million in salary plus a $4.25 million roster bonus (due March 10th)

Chad OchoCinco is under contract for $6 million in 2011, and the money is not believed to be guaranteed.

  5. The Dirtee Raccoon Says:

    Orlando Franklin ???

  6. RaiderRockstar Says:

    whats up Dirty?

  7. LA to TheBay Says:

Vince Young could be another Raider Reclamation project, but…. I say no.

Too many character guys as of late. We got rid of all the guys that didn’t want to be here.

  8. The Dirtee Raccoon Says:

The offensive line is the weakest link on the Raiders’ roster, QB, and WR arw close, and has been for what seems like forever. Filling the O-line with younger, better talent will be important for the continued growth and future success of the Raiders.

  9. chiefssuck Says:

VY will b cut if not traded before roster bonus is due.

  10. The Dirtee Raccoon Says:

    Mornin RR.

  11. The Dirtee Raccoon Says:

Carlisle has been, and continues to be, the worst starting offensive lineman in the league. His performances lack effort, production and heart.

  12. The Dirtee Raccoon Says:

Mario Henderson had his chance to prove himself, failed miserably and was replaced by a rookie from a Div-II school

  13. LA to TheBay Says:

Besides, I think all the QB talk is just that. Al likes Campbell. End of Story.

  14. The Dirtee Raccoon Says:

Walker was never a great starter or an integral part of the Raiders’ success. He worked well as a stop-gap player in 2010, but was never going to be the “answer” at right tackle.

  15. RaiderRockstar Says:

what team in the NFL would pay $12.75 million for a 1-year rental of Vince Young ???

    He will be released …

  16. The Dirtee Raccoon Says:

Samson Satele is a player that leaves me scratching my head. One play I think, “Wow! What a great play.” The next, “Is he even trying?”

I guess inconsistent is the right word.

Satele has improved over the last two seasons, but not enough to justify letting him continue as the starter. At the moment however, he’s the only center on the team.

Therefore, Satele should only be let go if there is a suitable replacement ready to step up.

  17. The Dirtee Raccoon Says:

Gallery has the potential to be one of the best offensive linemen in the game, but injuries and inconsistency constantly get in the way. If he can’t be on the field every down and make every play, he does the team no good.

a great day to be a raiders fan,
j hill that’s a monster line, i like veldheer at center too, not too sure about walker, but i do think gallery is overpaid . can we get gaither from the d birds.. is that a hujax connection? with a line like that and bush and dmac,,,a total monster

  26. DMAC Says:

Fassel, isn’t that bad, but Sanjay??????
    C’mon man!!!

  27. RaiderRockstar Says:

    OAKlifer & Raccoon,

Satele was traded from Miami, despite being a 2nd rounder going into his 3rd season having started all 32 games his first 2 seasons in the NFL.

Parcells & Sparano didn’t think he was strong enough. Cable liked his athleticism for the ZBS. with Hue Jackson running the offense we tried to start Jared Veldheer in his place twice, but Veldy couldn’t get the hang of it and Henderson was sucking balls at LT

Samson wont be back … despite being one of the few bright spots on Cable & Michalczik’s scrub filled O-Line

Maybe thats why he was mad over not makin the playoffs. He know with a new cba the small market team can’t compete??? Nah

  29. Just Fire Baby Says:

Carlisle will be starting somewhere next year, you can bank on that.

Remember in 2007, the Ravens signed the guy, announced the signing on their website as their new starting RG, and than Al swooped in the midnight hours and out-bid Ozzie Newsome for him.

Since than he has started all but one game, for a top-tier rushing offense, and is one of the least penalized lineman in the league.

I wouldn’t be suprised if almsot got the same amount of money as Gallery does if he were a FA.

  30. Just Fire Baby Says:

    Great news about Fassel!!

    Last year we:

-Had 4 ST TD’s and only gave up 1 (plus a safety)
-Forced 5 ST turnovers, and only coughed up 2
-Seabass led the league in scoring;Shane ProBowler
-Had a higher kick return average than our opponents (we did lose the PR battle)

I hope Al gave him a 15 year contract extension

  31. r8rwill Says:

j did you notice how well veldheer gets down field, he is a devastating blocker in the open field, he only has trouble with speed rushers.. and when he locks on it’s a done deal. mmove him to center you kill his two faults, the speed rush and false start penalties..he is big enough to handle the nose tackles we face one on one.

remember that was only a 2-year contract we gave Carlisle in 2007.

We let him test the waters in free agency prior to the ‘09 season. He had 1 visit with the Bucs and they passed on him. Nobody else even gave the guy one sniff … then Al Davis threw a 5 year contract for starter money at the guy!

    LOL

He’s scheduled to earn $2.5 million in 2011 and $3 million in 2012

  35. HairyBush Says:

I thought it was impressive the way free agent to be Caleb Hanie played in the NFC chamionship, considering he barely played all year. He was thrust into a championship game in the second half down 14 points, And responded pretty well.

If it wasn’t for a BJ Raji pick six, A lot more teams who need a QB would be talking about this guy, He has potential. I say sign Hanie and don’t resign Grads. Maybe someone worth “grooming”. I know that grooming QB’s isn’t exactly the raiders strong point, but what the hell.

  37. r8rwill Says:

i think veldheer was alright at center this year but henderson was terrible so cable moved veldheer out to lt. and put satele back in, who had been hurt in camp. in my opinion veldheer is our best lineman hands down.

  38. RaiderRockstar Says:

Veteran quarterback Todd Collins didn’t play well in spot duty for injured starter Jay Cutler during Sunday’s NFC Championship Game. But his 0-for-4 passing performance wasn’t the reason Collins came out of the game for the Chicago Bears.

A source said Monday that Collins suffered a shoulder injury on his final snap of the afternoon, taking a hit from Packers nose tackle B.J. Raji on a third-and-2 pass with 3:10 left in the third quarter.

Collins is scheduled for an MRI on Tuesday to determine the severity of the injury, and there’s a chance he’ll need surgery. That could mean the end of Collins’ 16-year career, which started with the Buffalo Bills and also took him to the Kansas City Chiefs and Washington Redskins.

Collins has thrown for 4,547 yards and 22 touchdowns with 24 interceptions in his career. He has started in just four games since 1997, when he was the Bills’ No. 1 quarterback.

Collins, 39, signed a one-year deal with the Bears in August, but he played in just two regular-season games, completing 10 of 27 passes for 68 yards and no touchdowns with five interceptions. If Collins decides to keep playing, the Oakland Raiders could be an option since they just hired former Redskins offensive coordinator Al Saunders.

Bill Williamson rated Cooper Carlisle the 13th best O-lineman in the AFC West in 2010 (9th best in 2009).

Right behind Casey Weigman and Brian Waters.

The guy is a starting NFL guard, no two ways around it.

This is the way Williamson described his list:

Our AFC West position-by-position rankings are continuing with the offensive line. We are going 14 players deep this year. If he is on the list, then he’s pretty good.

    Also states in 2009:

The Raiders re-signed guard Cooper Carlisle and tight end Tony Stewart. Re-signing Carlisle was big for Oakland. Many thought Carlisle was the team’s best lineman last season and he was being courted by other teams.

What makes you think he’ll be available. I see him as the Bear’s new #2 QB.

As far as Grads goes, he won’t be back. AD as much said so in his PC when he said he’s just too fragile and not dependable. I don’t think you’ll see Boller back either. My guess is that we’ll see Alex Smith picked up cheaply in FA. We may also see Frye back – cheaply too as the #3 QB. JCampbell is going to be the #1 QB s long as he’s not hurt. That’s just what I got out of AD’s PC.

  43. M Lonetree Says:

    HairyBush,

Caleb Haney had his Brucekowski v Pitts 4th quarter.
I wouldn’t read too much into Haney’s greatness. two TDs and two picks.
plus, when Caleb came in, it was obvious that Green Bay’s D took its foot off the gas and went into more of a prevent mode both before Chicago’s first TD and after Raji’s interception return.

It’s too hard to find a LT. His weakness should be coachable/correctable. If he doesnt show that good year 2 progress, then yeah try him else where. He is the best LT we have had since Berry Sims, and Sims was not great, this kid can be.

  47. Just Fire Baby Says:

This league is all about D-lineman and QB’s right now.

Look no further than this upcoming draft. First two guys will be D-liners (Fairley/Bowers) and 3 of the first 5 will probably be D-liners (the ‘Bama guy as the 3rd).

Kiper said that as many as 10 D-lineman could be taken in the first round this year.

It don’t matter if you have Anthony Munoz at LT, these elite D-lineman are getting knocks on the QB during the game. Did anyone see Michael Oher in his playoff game? That guy may be in the HOF one day and he was abysmal in the second half. I though I was watching Mario Henderson.

You are probably correct but I think JCampbell will florish in our offense and if he has a decent O-Line and some WR’s who can catch. he will develop into a very good QB. I would like to see a little more fire & leadership energy both on & off the field. He needs to improve his confidence level but that will come with future successes. What’s important right now is creating a stable consistent environment around him and we are going in that direction.

I’m with some others i here who think Ocho Cinco will be a Raider next year. I also think theyy should start developing DHB as a CB. He’s got size, speed, knowledge of WR routes and should be able to convert into someone who could get in the way of some passes in his direction. I don’t expect a lot of INT’s but Nnamdi isn’t all that great in that category either.

Assuming an improved O-line, Ocho Cinco & Schilens as wide outs, Ford in the slot, Bush & DMac in the backfield, ZMiller at TE, Jcampbell couldn’t ask for more. That’s a very scary offense.

Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez caught wiping snot on teammate Mark Brunell during AFC championship

Someone get that man a tissue.

In Sunday night’s AFC Championship game, CBS cameras turned on Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez Sunday night just in time to see him pick his nose – and wipe it on backup quarterback Mark Brunell.

With a snot ball stuck on his Jets’ jacket, Brunell looked down and made a face at Sanchez, before the cameras cut away.

Arizona placekicker Jay Feely was one of many NFL players cracking up at the clip.

“Did you just catch Sanchez adding some green to Brunell’s jacket? Mark Sanchez just picked his nose and wiped it on Mark Brunell! Ha!!” the veteran tweeted during the game.

The caught-on-camera faux pas was one of the few things that Jets fans could laugh about after a game where Sanchez had two fumbles, including a mishandled snap. Despite a second-half rally, the Jets lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers, 24-19.

CNBC commentator Darren Rovell joked on Twitter, “How bad were the 1st 20 minutes for the Jets? The greatest pick of the game came out of Mark Sanchez’s nose.”

The 24-year-old Sanchez has been known to joke around on the sidelines thoughout his career. This summer, on HBO’s “Hard Knocks,” he was shown putting a stink bomb in the defensive coaches’ meeting room

Qb is not a weak link on this team unless your talking about gradkowski. Campbell played well down the strecth and was good in games where he actually had some similance of mediocre pass protection. JC even played well in a game or two where pass protection was horrific, making plays at crucial time. I have to agree with hu jack and al, he came along way from the begining of the season, seemed to find his grove, and became the leader of this offense. he will only get better being reunited with saunders, and in his second year in this offense.

Offensive line was the biggest problem on offense followed by poor receiver play. The line couldnt pass protect ( one of the worst in the nfl), and couldnt run block consistently ( manhandled by moer physical defenses). As much as everyone wants to point the dirty end of the stick at JC, it just isnt accurate.

Even Boller is a decent back up. Look around the leauge and you will see very few teams have a back up with as many games started in the nfl, except for old timers like mark brunel. Boller and fry backing up Jc is a good situation to have. i know boller was terrible in limited action, but often times an experienced back up plays much better with a week running starters reps, rather than coming in cold from the bench.

No the only truly weak link in our qb rotation was Bruce gradkowski. Too fragile, and makes bone headed decision, turning the ball over, on top of a severe lack of accuracy.

Yes, that was hilarious. It was actually featured on a late hour sports show Game day.

Sanchez’s parents must really have loved that move. I guess it was better there than on the center’s ass during the game just prior to a snap.

  57. BART Bridge Blues Says:

If the Raiders get a QB at all in this draft, I wouldnt be surprised if they tried to get Taylor Potts either in the 7th or as an UDFA. This guy has great size and a rocket arm, but working in the Texas Tech spread system has lowered his draft value and apparently he is not all that accurate. That is the kind of player that I could see Al going for: low risk, would not be much of a threat to Jason Campbell and can throw the long bomb.

  58. YoungAmerican Says:

2nd round – C/OG Stephen Wisniewski or CB Jimmy Smith
3rd round – OLB Greg Jones or OG/C John Moffitt
4th round – OG/OT Lee Ziemba or OT Marcus Gilbert
    5th round – DT/NT Ian Williams

Attempt to re-sign Asomugha/Routt, Seymour, Miller, Wimbley, Reece, Bush, Huff, Loper, Condo, Cartwright, Henderson.

If Bush walks, sign Willis McGahee and/or draft a late-round back.

If Huff walks, sign Jarrad Page to compete with Stevie Brown.

If Asomugha walks, sign Jonathan Joseph and/or draft a CB.

If Routt walks, sign Richard Marshall or draft a CB.

Also… I can’t believe I’m saying this… sign Ochocinco if/when he gets cut. Don’t like his personality, myself, but he has a positive impact on young receivers (unlike TO) and loves playing for Hue.

  59. RaiderRockstar Says:

since we’ve brought in 1 blast from the past for Jason Campbell in Al Saunders, what about Mark Brunell as a backup (mentor) type?

They both played for the Redskins from 2005-2007.

Interview with Mike Wise at the Washington Post:

“What player did you learn the most from in your career?”

First & foremost, we need a center who can stand his ground. Satele & Carlisle are like a NY turnstyle. Satele would be OK as a backup but that’s it. Carlisle just hasn’t got it any longer. Veldheer & Gallery are fine on the left side. On the right side I think we’ll see either BCampbell or MHenderson auditioning for RT. BCampbell also might be seen at RG. Loper is also available as a guard backup. Walker, because he knows the system would be a reasonable backup. Barnes should continue as the blocking TE lineman. So, that being said, a line-up of Veldheer, Gallery, new guy, Bcampbell & MHenderson could be a very good line.

Right, thats why so many LT are low picks.

  68. Just Fire Baby Says:

So a new C, a new RG playing the position for the first time in his life, and a RT that will be relatively green to that side as well, and you think that is an upgrade?

Eventually maybe, but in 2011, that would be an epic fail.

First off OchoStinko is not a good WR there are 30 better ones in the league….how do I know? I put together a list before and posted it in PFT because the guy cares more about what car he drives to the game and dancing then catching the damn ball.

We do not need any more of these kinds of players and since Randy Moss our owner AD has stayed away from trouble makers and he will continue to do I would think.

So stop the Ocho Stinko talk its not going to happen and if it did it would not make us a better team.

  81. YoungAmerican Says:

Ochocinco is past his prime, but the guy still has skills. Better hands and a better route runner than every WR on the Raider roster, besides maybe Ford. He also still commands double-coverage – he was doubled all season even with TO on the roster.

If he gets cut? He’ll be a low-risk signing, and he’ll want to play for Hue. He’s not worth trading for, but as a free agent signing he’d be a good veteran presence for the young kids on the team. Might be loud, might be brash, but it’s been a long time since the Raiders had a receiver who WANTS the ball to come to him. The receiving corps could use that kind of confidence.

Sure, there are a lot of much better receivers out there, but with all of the in-house signings that have to happen it’s doubtful that Al is going to make a big splash.

Personally, I’d love for Al to make a run at Sidney Rice or James Jones, but I don’t see it happening. Steve Breaston is available, but he’s injury prone and wouldn’t have the same kind of veteran presence that Chad would.

The only veteran that there’s any chance of the Raiders signing is Ochocinco, because of Hue’s connection to him. Give him a one or two-year deal with incentives and see what happens. There are much worse moves the Raiders could make at this point.

  82. Just Fire Baby Says:

Anyone who thinks Stevie Brown could fill in for Michael Huff with no dropoff is delusional.

Brown was a LB in college, for a pathetic defensive college at that.

His athleticism is drastically less than Huff’s, and would need amazing instincts to compensate for the difference to cover center field.

If he had such instincts, his college FB defense might not have given up 50 points a game and let him slip to the 7th round in the draft.

That was the point of my post, huffs defeciencies in zone coverage, & tackling make him a liabilty in our defense. We need an upgrade. I also dont think he is enough of a ball hawk when the ball is in the air.

In our defense free saftey must be a good player, not just average, or up & down.

  86. YoungAmerican Says:

If Huff walks, the Raiders NEED to bring someone in to compete with Brown for that FS spot. I like NE’s Jarrad Page. He played some decent football for the Chiefs as a starter there.

Brown might be able to cut it, but the Raiders shouldn’t be counting on him and him alone to step up and fill a role that carries more responsibility than any other position on the defense. And Branch and Mitchell are not one-deep type safeties.

  87. YoungAmerican Says:

FS Chris Harris has played good football for the Bears and has been a very solid locker room presence for the team, but I’m not sure he’s a one-deep kind of player and the Bears might want to bring him back for at least another season.

Did anyone make that claim? however i dont think the drop off is dramatic, and with more playing time he will be better than huff. he has mcuh better ball hawking instincts, as evidenced by his abilty to take the ball away. he made almost as many plays in his rookie year as huff has made in his entire career.

Although I dont think he is ready to start full time.

Who cares if he switched positions it happens all of the time in the nfl. Rich rods defense is a 3-3-5, its all about small speedy lbs same size as safties generally. This was the issue. That front wont work against big strong big ten kids that pound you.

The problems with the wolverines defense had very little to do with brown

YA, you are right on the money, i would love to see a guy to compete and help out with browns development. Pge is a good stop gap.

Also harris is best suited in that cover two scheme that the bears use as there base. I was only pointing out that when the bears did man up, he played single high.

Main point is until we have a more versatile free saftey ( huff isnt it) we will continue to struggle and be exposed in our man coverage.

I also agree that mitchell is a best at strong safety, i think he should unseat branch.

It’s standard procedure and something that Carolina will do with multiple other players, but it confirms Fairley is under consideration for the No. 1 pick. ESPN’s Mel Kiper has the Panthers taking Fairley in his first mock draft.

On the Steelers’ side, LBs coach Keith Butler and DBs coach Ray Horton could be on the list. Former Saints DBs coach Dennis Allen has been the only confirmed candidate for the Eagles thus far, but he took the Broncos’ DC job.

per Al’s standard practice, I expect him to wait until all of the 31 other teams have hired their DC’s then he will lowball the best available candidate, hopefully someone who will work well with the players, coaches and scheme already in place.

  97. YoungAmerican Says:

I think Huff is plenty versatile and put a good year together, but I don’t think the Raiders should break bank to re-sign him based on one respectable year. I feel the same way about Routt, although I don’t think Routt is half the player Huff is.

The Raiders should definitely make an effort to re-sign Huff, but if doing so would prevent them from bringing back a guy like Nnamdi, Seymour, Miller, or Wimbley I don’t think it would be worthwhile.

There’s something to be said for consistency at that position, but over his career Huff’s play has been far from inconsistent.

Still, he made some key plays this year, that cannot be denied. I think Huff is one of the bigger question marks in free agency this offseason.
