Wisniewski joins coaching staff

Share

The Raiders announced on their Twitter account that former Pro Bowl guard Steve Wisniewski has joined the coaching staff as an assistant offensive line coach.

Wisniewski was on the staff of former Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh last year as a strength and conditioning coach.

How seriously do the Raiders take their legacy?

They announced Wisniewski as offensive line coach on their Twitter account and even had quotes.

Offensive coordinator Al Saunders was merely added to the coaching roster on the team Web site with no announcement.

Wisniewski replaces Chris Morgan, who was the offensive line assistant to line coach Jim Michalczik last season. Michalczik is returning to coach at Cal and Morgan was not retained.

In other news, cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha has pulled out of the Pro Bowl and will be replaced by Champ Bailey. Asomugha, though, at least got a trip to Honolulu out of it. He was with the AFC team Wednesday.

The upshot? Next year, assuming Heyward-Bey doesn’t live up to his draft status, Al can draft Michael Floyd in the first round.

    +++++++++++

    Yes please.

For this year, I’d wet myself if Jonathan Baldwin somehow fell to #48 and the Raiders pounced.

  • YoungAmerican

If Nnamdi leaves, the Raiders should sign Jonathan Joseph or Richard Marshall AND draft a CB.

No rookie or FA will have quite the effect Nnamdi does, obviously, but at least the Raiders will be able to move around some money. In the event that happens, the Raiders need to be focused on finding a young CB who excels in man coverage.

  • I feel your pain O. Pats fans are so entitled its pathetic. My sister-in-law lived in Boston for the last 5 years, so she thinks that the Patriots are like invincible and that Tom Brady is jesus resurrected.

Easily my favorite moment of the post-season was watching the Pats go down in flames against the Jets, while my sis in law kept saying “But they were supposed to win, ESPN said they were gonna win.”

  • Daft WR V Brown from SDSU!
    Go Aztecs!!!
    Go Bucks!!!
    Damn you Mich!

    @Dakota
Anywhere in the back of your mind do you think it is a good thing the Raiders do not have a first round pick?

I know we do not know what is going to happen with the CBA and the rookie salary issue, but could we take the money and get a couple of proven vets instead?

We seem to be a pretty young team, would now be the time to add some older guys? A couple O-linemen, D-Takcle (NT) and/or a OLB?
    +++++++++++++++

Not really. Especially since it is the 17th pick…perfect spot to draft a C, G, NT….pretty inexpensive contract (last year it was 5 years $18 million with only about $10 million guaranteed for the 17th pick Iupoti). If Al misses on the 17th pick it doesn’t hurt as much as when he misses on a top ten pick (Gallery, Huff, DHB, Russell).

In the event that happens, the Raiders need to be focused on finding a young CB who excels in man coverage.

    +++++++++++++

Might be McFadden or Ware, who knows? Let’s see how WMcFadden can play with a complete training camp. Nnamdi raved about his coverage ability before he popped that hammy and fell way behind.

I like the idea of signing Richard Martin though if Asomugha takes a walk.

  • SilverNBlackPA

And by “Richard Martin” I mean “Richard Marshall” Fail.

LMAO @ “but they were supposed to win, ESPN said they were gonna win”

Thx bro. That made me feel better!
    Still LMAO

  • YoungAmerican

Yeah I definitely am eager to see how McFadden develops from year 1 to year 2. Ware, too. John Marshall was a big fan of Ware, said he could even play safety. We’ll have to see if the new DC agrees.

  • Don’t worry guys, I know it is disappointing that we don’t have a first round draft pick and the draft talk will be super speculative, and there will be no free agency period, but take heart….all is not lost for this winter/Spring…..the Lakers are looking like themselves again, so at least we have that!

  • yeah, real quote. I was just laughing my arse off the whole time. Girls watching football are hilarious.

  • SilverNBlackPA

I think I’m gonna start beating the drum for Jurrell Casey out of USC for defensive tackle.

6’1″, 305 pounds. Squat, strong, tough to move. Need someone like that to stuff the run.

  • You People.

Ford, Chaz, and Murphy will make you forget all about M Floyd.
DHB will block faster and better than any WR in the NFL. That dude can block! lol

  • RaiderRockstar

If DHB produces 50+ catches in Year #3 it’ll be like he was our first round pick this year, because he’s been utterly non existant the first 2 years!

drafted in the Top 10 and only has 35 catches in 2 seasons?

    *puke*

  • At least I have Netflix to pass the time….working through season 2 of Californication and season 1 of Battlestar Gallactica at work via the Netflix watch instantly option.

    Yeah baby!

  • I wonder if owners have 100% name rights to their teams?

And if so…can they dump the NFL, keep the name of team and sign other players (e.g. AFL, UFL, CFL), if the new CBA is not reached?

  • Damn the Lakers!
I have SDSU BB team. Damn you BYU!
I have my Bucks!! I love my Bucks! Damn you Mich!

The Raiders are my passion. It’s a way of life ( Culture). Thank you Al Davis!

    ______________

No, that would be Battlefield Earth…Battlestar Gallactica is a TV show remake of a 1970s or 80s TV show starring Lorne Greene.

  • Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum conceded Friday that it “could be time to move on” from DE Vernon Gholston.
Tannenbaum tempered that assessment by indicating that his coaching staff “see if there’s a role that makes sense” for Gholston before making a move. Reading between the lines, Tannenbaum is ready to move on from his 2008 first-round bust.

  • I am gonna go ahead and get on the Cedric Thornton bandwagon right now. Dude has been a beast at the Senior Bowl, is a small school hidden gem, and the Raiders seem VERY interested. Like this kid a lot for our Waffle-led D-line.

  • RaiderRockstar

I’m not sure the Raiders have room for Vernon Gholston if Jarvis Moss, Trevor Scott, Kam Wimbley & Quinton Groves all return …

wouldn’t mind to see him replace Ricky Brown or Bruce Davis though, I guess. Depth?

Raiders Linebacker Shot at in Hometown

    DECATUR, Alabama —

An Oakland Raiders linebacker was shot at while visiting his hometown in Alabama.

Thursday evening around 6:30, officers responded to a location after reports of shots fired.

Originally they didn’t find a victim or any scene. A short time later Rolando McClain called cops to report shots were fired at his SUV.

McClain said there was a group of people standing on a corner, and one of them started shooting at his SUV. Investigators found one round stuck in the rear hatch of McClain’s Chevrolet Tahoe. The bullet did not hit any of the passengers inside.

Detectives questioned McClain and his passengers, and continue to follow leads from witnesses. No word if they have any suspects identified.

McClain was drafted by the Raiders as the 8th overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft. He played college ball at the University of Alabama.

DECATUR, AL (WSFA) – Oakland Raiders linebacker and former Crimson Tide player Rolando McClain called Decatur Police Thursday evening to report that he’d been shot at. No one was injured in the incident, however.

McClain met with officers and reported that while he was driving a group of people who were standing on the corner started shooting at his vehicle.

Officers confirmed that at least one round struck the rear hatch of McClain’s Chevrolet Tahoe though it “did not penetrate the passenger compartment.” The vehicle was processed and a bullet was recovered.

Detectives said they interviewed the passengers in McClain’s vehicle at the time of the shooting and continue to follow leads in the case.

McClain left the University of Alabama before his senior year to go professional. He was 8th overall in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft.

Anyone with information concerning this case, can contact the Decatur Police Department at (256) 341- 4660. Persons with information can remain anonymous.

I agree satele played very well at times in the second half of the year. However he cant be our starter for the future. He is simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Satele is a pure zone blocking center, and doesnt fit our power scheme. we saw what happened vs, pitt, and mia, he was destroyed in those games and wasnt able to get any push. He is now a square peg and cant fit the round hole.

No im afraid we need a power blocking beast to anchor our line. Again I think he became a good player this year, but he is miscast. Our line is goign to be more like the hogs, of the 80’s or those great raider teams 70’s 80’s, and I cant wait.

Tequila McClain filed a report saying that the next day at about 1 p.m., she and her brother, Myke, were at Shell Food Mart at Austinville Road and 14th Street Southwest when Wallace and a female pulled up in a dark green Cadillac.

Myke McClain recognized Wallace as the man from the previous night, the report said, and Wallace pulled a gun and pointed it at the McClains.

The McClains drove away, but Wallace followed them and fired a couple of shots, Crouch said. Neither the McClains nor the car was hit, he said.

Around 2:45 p.m., officers responded to the report of shots fired at Austinville Road and Betty Street, Crouch said. There they found off-duty state trooper Eric Tucker, who had detained Myke McClain and had him on the ground.

Tucker told the officer he had taken a gun off McClain, and said he had seen Wallace run from the scene in the direction of the location of the first incident on Freeman Street.

Crouch said Myke McClain said he had been robbed the night before and saw Wallace running down the road and decided to confront him.

Tequila McClain said Wallace had contacted her and wanted to return her brother’s property to her, but when they arrived at the Shell station, Wallace pulled a gun on her and demanded money, Crouch said.

The report says Tequila McClain had a friend with her who pulled a gun on Wallace, which led to a fight between Myke McClain and Wallace.

Tucker said he observed the fight between Myke McClain, and Wallace and saw Myke McClain pull a gun, then he pointed his own gun at McClain and ordered him to drop his weapon. He said Wallace then ran off.

Myke McClain has been involved in shooting incidents before. On June 17, 2009, a man argued with McClain on the phone, then shot him in the 500 block of Betty Street Southwest.

In addition, McClain has a history of drug charges. On Sept. 21, he was arrested during a traffic stop for first-degree possession of marijuana.

Myke and Tequila McClain are the siblings of Rolando McClain, an All-America linebacker at Alabama who helped lead the Crimson Tide to the national championship last season. He had previously been a star player at Decatur High School.

He now plays in the NFL for the Oakland Raiders after being selected in the first round of the draft.
