    ………..

That’s what I figured. I think we know who’ll be running the offense…

  • alex7

KK, you can’t even define context, bud.

Here’s the context. A system of games with the same rules applied to everyone, with various degrees of talent scouted out by professional scouts for YEARS.

On field performance + scouted value = draft position.

    Done. Owned.

  • http://www.aldavissucks.blogspot.com The Real MaddenRaider

    Terrapin and Mistic,

Why are you guys insisting that Saunders was Hue’s choice? I never said he wasn’t.

  • alex7

    Macho,

come on, man. Brian Griese? Really? Elvis Grbac? Really? That’s what we want out of our middle pick? How is that any better than Campbell?

You notice your most recent one is 2002?? Garrard? That’s what we want as our QB of the future? A QB that in his prime makes you start thinking of your next QB of the future??

  • http://www.pro-football-reference.com/ KoolKell

    Wow! Bart Starr?

Drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the 17th round (200th overall) of the 1956 NFL Draft.

    neil odonnel 3rd

    schroeder 3rd

This offense will be in great shape. The question is the defense. The need to get someone in here that will get the most out of these players. If so, this team will be unstoppable. Certainly will win the division.

If this defense allows less ppg you don’t even have to improve the offensive production and this team will win 10 games. That’s how close they are.\!

  • alex7

Exactly Terrapin. Get a car rental, do your family thing, leave quietly. If you miss your hood friends that much, fly them out to your current location. Plenty of things to do in California.

It was actually Nnamdi 21 who said that Al brought in Saunders. Tell it to him.

    Nnamdi21 Says:

He hired Air Coryell’s Al Saunders to re ignite the passing game in Oakland next season.

  • alex7

2 out of hundreds of QBs drafted in the last 15 years (when Warner came in).

    Pass.

You either move up into the 1st to get a QB, or you don’t get a QB.

I mean, who wouldn’t want some of that action??? :)

  • Macho Man Randy Savage

Hey Alex, Lets now list the 1st round QB busts of the last few years.

  • Mistic1 Tha Supavillain

Kyle orton is way overrated. He is not clutch. Steve young and ron jaworski have stated you judge a qb by what he does on third down. I also look at the fourth quarter and orton is no great shakes in these areas.

  • http://www.pro-football-reference.com/ KoolKell

    Brett Favre in the 2nd.

  • http://www.aldavissucks.blogspot.com The Real MaddenRaider

Alex, how do you know McClain was in the hood? He might have been at a congresswoman’s rally. You don’t have to be in the hood anymore to get shot in America. Ask Judge John Roll.

  • alex7

Macho, do you understand percentages? Higher probability of success? Or do you honestly not understand that point of drafting at a spot with the highest chance of success?

  • DutchRaider77

How about Caleb Hanie (Undrafted free agent)
Not great or a starter, but his future looks bright right now. Looked better than Todd Collins.

  • Macho Man Randy Savage

Alex, if percentages found talent, then the Bengals, Raiders & Lions would be playoff teams due to all the top 10 picks.

  • TerrapinRaider

I simply cannot recall the Raiders drafting many QBs late in the draft. It has to be rare if ever done.

  • alex7

Crime index shows that Decatur, Alabama has about a 1/3rd higher crime rate across the board than the average in U.S.

But yeah, I was just trying to talk about something other than QBs, so I’ll leave McClain alone. Stick to what I know better.

  • http://www.pro-football-reference.com/ KoolKell

Alex, you’re trying to paint a black & white picture, and we’ve just punched all kinds of holes in it, that’s all.

  • alex7

    Macho,

you mean the Bengals that made the playoff teams twice in the last few years, including just LAST year?

Because they drafted a 1st round QB in Palmer?

    Yup.

Also, you’re still not discussing percentages. You’re showing a few hand-picked examples and ignoring the rest.

Stats without context make for shallow argument.
    @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

I agree with this statement big time, especially when it comes to football. But Alex is right on this one. Why the hell are people on this board excited about mid-round QB prospects. The guys with the skills it takes to make it in this league are snatched up early. Anybody picked after round 2 has serious warts.

Alex. im not gonna run some friggin percentages, too tired. You go run up some numbers. true, the bengals made the playoffs last year. the lions and the raiders didnt

  • alex7

    KK

    punch this.

    Team Turnarounds and QBs

    Falcons, Matt Ryan, 1st round.
    Bucs, Josh Freeman, 1st round.
Steelers, Ben R., 1st round (6-10 before he arrived)
    Colts, Manning, 1st round
    Chargers, Rivers, 1st round
Saints, Brees, early 2nd round talent
    Bears, Cutler, 1st round talent

  • alex7

Macho, I don’t flap aimlessly here without running numbers first. I already did it a few weeks back.

The last 10 years, odds of a mid-to-late QB working out was about 16%.

Odds of a 1st round QB working out was about 70%.

Picking QBs late is a waste. Ask the Dolphins.

  • Just Fire Baby

    Bernie Kosar was undrafted???

    That can’t be right

  • alex7

“But Alex is right on this one. Why the hell are people on this board excited about mid-round QB prospects. The guys with the skills it takes to make it in this league are snatched up early. Anybody picked after round 2 has serious warts.”

Thanks Debo. All these posters have to do is set their egos aside for one nano-second (I know it’s hard for you all) and LOOK at the NFL and their QBs.

Most are 1st rounders for a reason.

  • Macho Man Randy Savage

sorry. Kosar was 1st round supplemental draft.

  • Just Fire Baby

Alex, how do you know McClain was in the hood? He might have been at a congresswoman’s rally. You don’t have to be in the hood anymore to get shot in America. Ask Judge John Roll.

Only in the hood do you still have drive-bys though.

  • alex7

    Learn from Kyle Boller.

Big arm, bad accuracy, weak #s in Pac-10 = BIG risk.

Aaron Rodgers had a similar cast around him at Cal (anyone remember his college WRs? No? Ok) but put up much better accuracy numbers.

  • http://www.pro-football-reference.com/ KoolKell

Obviously it’s true the top rated QB’s in college have the best chances for success in the NFL.

Because of talent & Salary (playing time and development)

But it doesn’t mean you can find a QB in the latter rounds. Look no further than Tom Brady.

It depends (on a lotta things) where the franchise is at the time.

  • Macho Man Randy Savage

I agree with you Alex that its easier to find talent on the 1st round.

It’s not. Supplemental draft. He would have gone very high if he had entered the regular draft. Like the Boz.

  • r8rwill

yeah a7 is right about not taking a qb in the later rounds..but it has nothing to do with his stats out of context…

geez R8erwill, set that ego aside brother. Or at least offer up a counter-point instead of just saying no to someone else.

Do you have something else that the draft revolves around besides stats and talent evaluation?

Shoot, even the talent evaluations are broken down MOSTLY into stats (40 times, bench press reps, jump #s, arm span, hand size).

Yeah I was just looking at it, the Browns traded a bunch of picks to move up to get him in the supplement draft.

    His play?

  • M Lonetree

    from what I just read
86 QBs have been taken as first-rounders since 1970.
15 1st round QBs are among the 28 who have won Super Bowls (including Dawson and Namath – pre 1970)
of those 15 only 9 won with the team that drafted them.

  • Just Fire Baby

I think it is about 50/50 on QB’s.

Half of them are top 15 picks it seems, and the other half come from all these crazy rounds and are undrafted like Romo.

  • DutchRaider77

    Dude if you ask:

“Can anyone name legit starting NFL QBs that were 3rd round picks or lower?”

“If my answers frighten you then you should cease asking scary questions.”

Of course everyone is going to rack their brain or google to find the gem QB found in the latter rounds.

So smart teams should never think about drafting a QB after the 2nd round, ever?

QBs should just drop out of the draft if they are not projected in the 2nd round?
