Bresnahan officially added to staff

The Raiders confirmed the hiring of Chuck Bresnahan to their defensive staff without giving him a specific title.

Translation? If the Raiders can’t find a defensive coordinator candidate to their liking (or that candidate doesn’t want to come to Oakland), Bresnahan, the defesnive coordinator for the club’s run of division titles from 2000 through 2002, could ascend to that position.

If Oakland does hire a defensive coordintor, Bresnahan is expected to coach linebackers in place of the departed Mike Haluchak.

Bresnahan was a linebackers coach with the Indianapolis Colts in 1995-96 and coached linebackers as well as serving as defensive coordinator and linebackers coach for the Florida Tuskers over the past two years. He has also coached defensive backs, but the Raiders already have Lionel Washington and Kevin Ross on staff, plus director of squad development Willie Brown.

“Chuck brings a wealth of knowledge and experience and we welcome him back,” coach Hue Jackson said in a statement released on Raiders.com as well as to media outlets. “I worked with him in Cincinnati and he is fiery, a motivator and a teacher.”

The Raiders hired Bob Wylie to coach the offensive line Monday.

I didn’t realize there was a 700 million dollar deal for naming rights to the LA Downtown Stadium.

That will be a lot of fun tailgating without a grill in a parking structure. Not enough parking for the Staples Center let alone an NFL Stadium.

    ______________________

The morning show on KNBR talked about it today. Apparently, the new stadium will be located next door to the Staples Center and be completely financed by naming rights money. They also stated that the Chargers could move back to L.A. since they haven’t been able to get a new stadium built in San Diego. There is even a clause in their current stadium lease that will let them leave as long as they pay off the remaining money owed through the end of the lease to the current stadium owners.

  • http://www.pro-football-reference.com/ KoolKell

San Diego or Jacksonville could move into a downtown LA stadium, IF, it’s ever built.

  • itzSteve

The stadium in L.A. would seat 65,000 and have a retractable roof so that it could host conventions, a Final Four, and a Super Bowl to be named later…

  • http://blackhillsphoto.com/sturgis-weddings/black-hills-weddings.jpg Dakota

    Jhill,

Actually, the Love deal might work because they do run the triangle in Minny (allegedly). Ususally mid-season trades will not work with a Jackson coached team because they player will be lost in the triangle.

I doubt Minny would give up its one good player though.

I don’t want to trade Gasoft though…..3 finals since we got him.

  • J Hill

Gasoft could help Minny get Rubio to come over.

  • J Hill

Pau and Artest to Denver for Melo and a draft pick works for me.

They are asking L.A. for a $350 mil in bonds and for the City to destroy the Convention Center which is paid for. Additionally, the reason they want to wait for the CBA “to be done right” is so they can get some of the new Stadiums funds that are currently unavailable due to it’s being dry. The owners of the Staples Center are real slicksters. Lied about being sole owners as Jerry Buss and Donald Sterling and others have a piece of the Staples Center.

Denver really should have taken that Nets offer. No way another team can do better than that….now they will lose Melo for nada….or a rental player trade package of almost nada.

In a sense, this is a smart move. To have a DC candidate ready and waiting in case Green Bay tells the Raiders to go pound sand about interviewing Moss and/or Perry.

    But, man…BRESNAHAN?! Ugh.

    ——————————————–

I think the fact that they’ve waited this long on the DC hints that the Packers will let them interview Moss and Perry and that the Raiders expect one of them to be the DC. Despite the treatment he gets around here, in the NFL there is professional courtesy for Davis- they’d have told him to save time and start looking elsewhere.

I think the more likely way the bottom could drop out is if neither of them wants to come here, a la Lance and Steve Sarkasian. Hence the Bresh safety net.

But I actually think that Perry or Moss will want to come here. Attractive players for a DC to work with in Seymour, Asomugha, etc. Way better toys than Lance had on the offense when he came.

Gasoft….I hate to trade a big who is rarely injured. I don’t want to see us playing with Odom at the C position because Bynum is injured again…..if Bynum could prove his health I would trade Gasoft….but that knee of his is just unrelaible.

The Kobe era is winding down. He could extend his dominance another 4-5 years if he changed gears and became a facilitator. He could be the best playmaker in the NBA if he would finally retire his six-shooters and realize his time as a scorer is almost up. But he seems to be following the Iverson trail.

It will be interesting to see what superstar will decide to take his talent to SoCal once Kobe is gone….Howard? Durant?

NOW THAT THE flying spittle has dried, the fightin’ words have faded to an echo and the debris has been swept away, there may be something to soothe any Raiders fan who witnessed the pitiful, painful sight of one man’s collision with his own wish.

  • http://www.pro-football-reference.com/ KoolKell

For those looking for a ray of hope shining through the fog, a reason to keep the faith despite everything you’ve seen since 2002, there it was.

Understand, Davis could change his mind at any time — and likely will. He could decide next week the Raiders should continue directing their efforts and arranging their priorities around his capricious desires.

Still, it was sweet harmony for Raiders fans to hear Al blaming Al. He reduced his status from football god to domineering owner who longs for success but keeps getting in his own way.

Observers have known this for years.

We’ve seen the constant turnover of coaches, including the trade of the only winning coach the franchise has had since returning to Oakland in 1995. We’ve seen the abysmal drafts, choices made at the owner’s insistence. We’ve seen the misguided energy, the undermining, the players on “scholarship,” the petty bickering and the subjective treatment of individuals on and off the field, as well as those beyond the organization.

What would Bynum, his big contract and his bum knees bring in return? Not much imo. The only time he has played an entire season was back in 06, when he wasn’t a full-time starter.

Football hasn’t passed him by; he just spends inordinate amounts of time with his eyes turned elsewhere. If Davis were to realize this, really comprehend it, he might accept it and allow the club to advance.
