Bresnahan officially added to staff

The Raiders confirmed the hiring of Chuck Bresnahan to their defensive staff without giving him a specific title.

Translation? If the Raiders can’t find a defensive coordinator candidate to their liking (or that candidate doesn’t want to come to Oakland), Bresnahan, the defesnive coordinator for the club’s run of division titles from 2000 through 2002, could ascend to that position.

If Oakland does hire a defensive coordintor, Bresnahan is expected to coach linebackers in place of the departed Mike Haluchak.

Bresnahan was a linebackers coach with the Indianapolis Colts in 1995-96 and coached linebackers as well as serving as defensive coordinator and linebackers coach for the Florida Tuskers over the past two years. He has also coached defensive backs, but the Raiders already have Lionel Washington and Kevin Ross on staff, plus director of squad development Willie Brown.

“Chuck brings a wealth of knowledge and experience and we welcome him back,” coach Hue Jackson said in a statement released on Raiders.com as well as to media outlets. “I worked with him in Cincinnati and he is fiery, a motivator and a teacher.”

The Raiders hired Bob Wylie to coach the offensive line Monday.

    -Great draft
    -8-8 overall
    -6-0 in division
-Fired coach who some say got us 8-8, some say held us back from better
-Promoted the coordinator predominantly responsible for doubling PPG from prior year

Another great draft, a few FA signings and I think the Raiders are back.

Al can have at least partial vindication. I think some of the doom and gloom can dissipate (sp?) for a minute, fellers.

Like the hire, especially as LB coach; I’m still hoping for W Moss as DC coordinator though.

Wylie as O-Line coach will be great for the Raiders; could mean Wisniewski plans to be Raiders’ O-line coach in the future as well, he can learn from an experienced coach.

Offensive coaching staff; I think is now complete. We have a solid qb, a great running back (hopefully the back up and fullback return), a good & potentially great LT, a game breaking WR/KOR player, so we have a solid core on offense going into 2011 season.

    Let’s get that CBAgreement made!

  • RaiderRetribution

One consensus, even from other Raider blogs is everyone seems to be hoping Raiders draft U of Fl Gilbert OT, in the 4th or 5th, I see that one in just about everyone’s mock.

Why break up Kiffin’s PC into seperate posts, Kell?

Oh. right. makes it seem they’re your words?

doesn’t seem like anyone bought it. maybe you should try coming up with something on your own?

  • LA to TheBay

So we’re looking at a bunch of guys who project as 3-4 DEs and maybe a few 3-4 NTs and speedy OLBs…..

Is this just because Waufle likes big dudes at DE in his 4 man front or because we’re going 3-4 (or hybrid).

Perry and Moss both 3-4 guys, that guy from the Jets was coaching for a 3-4 team.

    Hmmmmm.

  • http://www.alaska.com SammyTheBull

Ya, if it’s blacked out, no one can show it in your area, whether it be Sunday tkt, sports bars, whatever.

I heard that if you register your unit out of the area, such as a relative in another state, for ex. that you can then get the signal for the game. At least you used to be able to do that, not sure now.

  • LA to TheBay

Maybe we just want interchangeable matchup nightmares playing all over the front 4? Guys moving inside and outside.

Secondary coaches being targeted to clean up communication in the defensive backfield.

Maybe we’re gonna start playing chess instead of checkers?

  • http://chismetime.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/06/sofia_vergara_01.jpg r8eray

“The halfback, McFadden and Bush,” Davis said, “complement each other tremendously. … By the third and fourth quarter, they don’t want to tackle Bush in the secondary. They just don’t want him. He’s 250 pounds, power, speed.” New head coach Hue Jackson also called Bush and Darren McFadden a “1-2 punch” last week. It sounds like they may not let him get away.

  • aig-raiders

If you are out of the area and get Sunday Tix, then you can get their online package without being blacked out. I tested that this summer.

  • LA to TheBay

Al talked up Bush and Reece. Those guys will be RFAs anyway.

Said he could get 2 or 3 players for what he pays Nnamdi.

Now, many feel that was a shot at Nnamdi.

Maybe not. Nnamdi wants to play for a winning team. Take a paycut to make room for some vets? Champ Bailey? Maybe somebody on the Offensive side like a Logan Mankins or Gaither?

    Hmmmmm….

When Ochocinco was a star, leading the league in yards, still named Chad Johnson(the first time), he was pleading to come to Oakland to play.

Wasn’t the rest of the league (owners) highly critical of Al for giving Aso that huge contract? It set the mark on how all CBs would be paid around the league.

  • LA to TheBay

    We’ll see, Dutch.

The pitch to Nnamdi could be this: You want to play for a winning team. Willing to take less money. We know you’ve heard it before, but we’re making progress here. We need some room to add vets. Take x amount of money (its still more than most teams would offer) and we’re gonna work on getting some solid vets to take this to the next level.

    What does that mean?

    Is Philly a FHP?

  • J Hill

There are no “established” DCs going to any remaining opening.

It’s going to be the same trend of a position coach being promoted to DC.

Like most teams are doing and have done.

  • Just Fire Baby

I’m talking about Breshanan coming in as a LB coach unless they can’t get anyone better for DC.

    And a rehire at that!!

How many other teams are re-hiring their DC from 10 years ago??

  • M Lonetree

y’all do realize that talking to Perry or Moss before the Super Bowl would cost the Raiders fines or draft picks (or do you think that the NFL would go easy on Al? yeah right.). Let it play out.
