“The Oakland Raiders have agreed to terms on a contract extension with cornerback Stanford Routt, a source with knowledge of the situation said Thursday.

Routt, a six-year pro, was an offseason priority for the Raiders after the team voided the contract of perennial Pro Bowl pick Nnamdi Asomugha, who likely is leaving via free agency.

Routt had 55 tackles and made two interceptions, returning one for a touchdown in 2010.

The Raiders have been in contact with tight end Zach Miller during the past few days to explore options for re-signing him, according to league sources. Franchising Miller remains an option as well by Thursday’s 4 p.m. ET deadline.

Miller led the Raiders with 60 receptions and five touchdown catches.”

Good for Stanford Routt. His play last year warranted an extension.

As long as Al didn’t overpay too much for him (I would put Routt at around a 3-4 million per year range).

If this is the case, it’s not a bad deal.

Somehow I feel like Al is going to end up paying him about $7 million a year.

    233. There are always abuses to the system but to claim the majority are useless loers sponging off society is grossly innaccurate but typical propaganda spread but the wealthy who pay very little taxes at all.

The wealthy think welfare is horror unless they need 2/3 of a TRILLION to bale their assinine, greedy ventures out of the ditch.

Invest in a clue. Its not the mexicans and poor. Its the multi national corps that OWN Washington now…
    ************
Yeah sorry dude you need to invest in a clue. I am no where near wealthy. I also paid very close to 20% of my gross income to ‘taxes’ (fed, state, fica… etc). Hell I paid over $6,000 in tax on my bonus check alone last year. I didnt say anything about Mexicans either, I live in upstate NY, we dont have an immigrant issue, the poor white trash are doing enough damage on their own.

Ya know… if YOU black people would stop ASSUMING everything a white person said is racist then maybe this sh1t would die. JFB is racist because he thinks a guy who has very few accolades shouldnt act like a superstar, and Dakota is racist because he thinks some who lies a steals is a POS, and RaiderRockstar is racist because he thinks Michael Vick is trash for killing animals and I am racist because I quoted Jamarcus as speaking in the third person. The only racist comments I ever see on here are from the black people calling everyone racist. Im surprised Kell didnt sh1t himself because some guy in an earlier post said Cam is from a tribe… ohhhh my goooooooood that is SOOOOOOO racist… grown up dude. We dont hate black people because we point out the flaws of professional athletes, YOU only take notice when its a black professional athlete… thats YOUR problem.

USC OT Tyron Smith put on about 22lbs for the combine, up to 307. Thats good to see, I know a big knock on him was being a little too small.

I just hope Routt’s year was not a mirage. He still needs a strong corner across the field from him. Routt and Jonathan Joseph could certainly suffice, particularly if the Raiders re-sign Huff and step up their pass rush.

Ignorance is pulling out the race card because the guy is black and keeping blinders on concerning the rest of his issues. It is weak-minded individuals who always bring out the race card everytime a member of their race is called out on their shortcomings.

  • bcz24

I think Routts biggest problem in previous years was being stuck in the slot. With the move outside this year he definitely improved his game big time.

When John Elway came out of college the Baltimore Colts had the first pick in the draft and Elway said there is no way he was going to play for the Baltimore Colts. He also went on to say he wasn’t going to play on the East Coast. He was pretty arogant about it. A trade was made and he ened up in Denver. Eli Manning said he was not going to play for the San Diego Chargers and he was arogant about it. He ended up with the New York Giants. All I want to say is there was no outrage on either of those situations. They were considered smart businessmen.

Funny how he gets beat deep so often, but still only managed to give up 4 tds. How come positive stats are meaningless, but negative ones mean the world? FYI Routt was called for 14 PIs, which is absolutely an area for improvement, yet is still impressive considering the system he plays in and the jersey he wears. If you dont think we draw a bunch of phanton PIs every year then you simply dont watch Raider football.

I think Woodson is definitely going to end up being the biggest addition to the Raiders’ secondary.

Could not be happier with that hire. I was hoping for a new DBs coach but was disappointed when it looked like the Raiders were going to just retain Kevin Ross. Looking forward to seeing what Woodson can do with some of the young guys on this team.

While I think he had some lapses in concentration, the “trouble lining up” thing really only stems from that one Dwayne Bowe TD in the first KC game.

Still, when you play man coverage 90% of the time, you’d think you’d know who your man is. But as a fan you can’t see what’s going on on the field, so no one knows what really caused that mix-up.

I wasn’t blogging at the time, but now and at the time, I thought Eli’s move was one of the most chicken$hat things I ever seen in the draft.

Damn shame he was vindicated winning a Super Bowl, IMO.

And how was there no outrage? Did you watch the draft? Kiper and the ESPN panel were nailing Eli for that move.

  • YoungAmerican

I just hope Woodson can teach Routt proper tackling technique.

The nice thing about Nnamdi is that when he found himself in one-on-one situations with a running back, nine times out of ten that tackle was made.

  • YoungAmerican

If the Raiders didn’t sign Routt, they would just need two new CBs instead of one.

It’ll be interesting to see what the Raiders do with Huff, though. He thinks they’re going to let him test the open market, but keep negotiations open. At least he sounds like he wants to come back. I’ve criticized Huff’s angles of pursuit endlessly, but last year he played like a guy who finally gets it.

Exactly. You dont know what defense was called or who screwed that up. Maybe Routt was supposed to move inside and bracket Moeaki, and Huff or Branch was supposed to cover Bowe and THEY screwed up. Maybe Routt and Nnamdi are talking about where they think the ball is going to go or if they think it might be PA or something, you cant hear them, you are guessing that he doesnt know where to go because the perception of Routt is that he is a sub-par CB. Fact is he gives up less TDs than Darelle Revis, AND he has the pressure of play opposite the most ignored CB in football! Routt gets the pleasure of covering the BEST WR on the field on more the 70% of his snaps. Yet he is still the most critisized player on our defense.

How is that evidence? He played opposite Nnamdi Asomugha last season. Nnamdi was targeted a mere 36 times. Those balls have to go somewhere. This has to be by far the WORST anti-routt argument ever!
