Could Raiders gamble with RFA tenders?

The Tennessee Titans are planning to issue restricted free agent tenders to four- and five-year players whose contracts have expired before the end of the league year on Friday, according to the Tennessean.

It’s a tact the Raiders could choose with tight end Zach Miller and running back Michael Bush, the most notable players who fall into that category for Oakland.

It doesn’t appear as if Miller was not going to be franchised, despite speculation to the contrary. According to one source, the plan was to keep Kamerion Wimbley through a buyback and franchise Stanford Routt if an agreement on a longterm deal was reached.

When Routt was signed to a three-year extension with $20 million guaranteed and $31.5 million overall, the Raiders instead used the tag on Wimbley when the buyback originally put in the contract by the Cleveland Browns was disallowed for violating the 30 percent rule.

There are no assurances RFA tenders will hold up in a new collective bargaining agreement. If unrestricted free agency is set at four years in a new CBA and Miller and/or Bush are not under contract, they would be on the open market.

The Carolina Panthers franchised center Ryan Kalil , a four-year veteran at a cost of $10 million.

By contrast, a first- and third-round tender last year cost a team just $3.268 million.

Thanx for the stats. I still wouldn’t mind him in Oakland at a vet salary. Might make it through the year w/out injuries being the back-up guy.

    Asterik years are trash

    $$$$$$$$$$

Very VERY True, but i would still want the asterik super bowl trophy to add to the raiders legacy.

All NFL teams would still have the same short amount of time to prepare and play.
It will still be a level playing feild.

  • General Bauce

Sham Newton will have some high points in his career and go to pro bowl but it will be an epic fall for the guy. Red flags are red flags. Guy wants to be Hollywood

  • Just Fire Baby

Just heard on SVP (Ryan Rusillo filling in) that Cam Newton was to have taken a knee on his final college play and than kick the FG.

He tried to score, even though none of his lineman blocked for him, as they thought he was taking a knee (he didn’t score).

Apparently, that’s where things got a little touchy for Cam in the team interviews.

The Cowboys will not attempt to re-sign free agent DE Marcus Spears or free agent SS Gerald Sensabaugh.
The Cowboys gave Spears less money than “backups” Stephen Bowen and Jason Hatcher last year, and he landed on injured reserve with a strained (probably torn) calf muscle in November. They’ll be more interested in bringing back Bowen and Hatcher. Sensabaugh will also hit the open market. According to ESPN Dallas, the Cowboys are looking for a replacement in the draft.

I have come to the conclusion that the TWO players the Raiders should target with their first pick in the 2nd Round should be either:

    C- Stefan Wisnewski 6′3, 313.
    or
    RT/RG- Marcus Cannon 6′5, 350.

  • Just Fire Baby

He might have been there in the 4th round anyways.

That’s right about where he was slated. 3rd to 5th range.

Dakota read the quote again it doesnt say been around lately.

Warren Moon is one of the greatest qbs of all time, and he too was stung by the hype that discredits black qbs, and forced to play in canada instead of accept a position change in the nfl.

    I respect his opinion.

i know what year it is, & racism still exist in amerikkka.

Just the other day i caught a blow out on the highway. I while i was on the shoulder, changing my tire in my part time uniform california high way patrol pulled up behind me.

As i began to explain my situation the cop ordered me to keep my hands where he could see them?!?!?

i refused because it was freezing cold, told him if he didnt want to help to get lost. i also asked if he was paranoid do to the rash of people that take off their tires on the highway in an attempt to lure cops to their death.

Give me a break and spare me the rush limbaugh garbage

You know what I find funny about rural America? Isn’t their whole idea to avoid people (especially minorities, let’s face it…)? Yet they come online, and get all defensive when someone insults rural America. What are they even doing on blogs in the first place? I thought their whole thing was to get away from people, just enjoy the land, live in serenity. But when you look at the defensive behavior of bloggers from there, the militias, the unabomber, etc….. I dunno. Maybe there’s another reason they’re out there in the sticks, and maybe the “federal gubment” should be keeping an eye on them.

I dont know what you are talking about, and neither do you. i didnt say anything about cam being black. I was talking about warren moon.

besides unless your micheal jackson it does matter if your black or white, and always will. We are not all the same and that is the beauty of life, every one has something unique to bring to the table.
