Brown gets second-round tender
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Tuesday, March 8th, 2011 at 12:45 pm in Oakland Raiders.
The Raiders continue to be impressed by the work of Ricky Brown as a reserve linebacker and special teams player, giving the five-year veteran a second-round tender.
Brown, who played in 14 games with one start for an injured Rolando McClain, joined the Raiders in 2006.
Upon completion of a collective bargaining agreement, there’s a good possibility five-year veterans will be granted unrestricted free agency. However, the designation is a hint that the Raiders are serious enough about keeping him that it’s likely he’ll be back.

Ricky Brown= Maybe 5th round tender. garbage
March 8th, 2011 at 12:53 pm
uh-oh !
March 8th, 2011 at 12:56 pm
Ricky in his only start last year was underwhelming at best he looked stiff and unathletic which is the opposite of what he looked like before his injury maybe it was due to rust not sure, but I wasn’t impressed. If someone steals him we get a 2nd rndr so maybe it was a good move I don’t know. Sometimes I think they do that because they know someone wants the player and sometimes so no one will want to pay the price.
March 8th, 2011 at 1:03 pm
I do think Loper is a keeper maybe not a starter but a keeper, I think he fills in very well when needed. It is true that there was a drop off when Gallery was out because he is accomplished whether people realize it or not Gallery can play. He’s just not worth more than 4-5 $mill a year. They have a plan it m ay not be fully developed but they know what they want to look like we may not have all the pieces but they know what they want to look like.
March 8th, 2011 at 1:06 pm
I am not a fan of Gallery, but if the plan to replace him is Loper, then we have certainly taken a large step backwards. Hopefully Loper is plan C in the event that free agency and the draft (plans A & B) fail to produce a replacement for Gallery.
March 8th, 2011 at 1:15 pm
i like the loper signing, loper will start @ LG and campbell will be RG. RT in FA or draft.
ricky brown and bennett? bleh, not starters so could really care less
we need to keep huff, that should be a priority unless we have plans to move some of our 2nd year CBs around which could be interesting
March 8th, 2011 at 1:17 pm
Why do we need to keep Huff…..we have the great Mike Mitchell and T. Branch just waiting to explode!
I believe in the youtube wonder!
March 8th, 2011 at 1:19 pm
i like mitchell at the SS spot, but we need a cover safety and branch is not the answer. especially with our single high safety sets that al loves.
March 8th, 2011 at 1:20 pm
If Loper starts the Oline, which according to this place was the worst in the league last year, will be even worse.Nice back-up who can play multiple positions=Dan Loper-nothing more, nothing less.
March 8th, 2011 at 1:21 pm
unless you want to hear hiram eugene’s name a lot we need to address FS
March 8th, 2011 at 1:24 pm
LG is not the entire offensive line. LGs are only as good as the center and LT which are both returning to start. loper will be fine and is great on the 2nd level. we paid loper 4 mil for 2 yrs. make no mistake he will start. if we get young wiz in the draft he will be RG

If tears did indeed cascade down Heat cheeks, Bryant was understanding, telling ESPN 710 Los Angeles that:
“I mean it’s . . . everybody truly responds differently. If guys are crying in the locker room, they’re crying in the locker room. It doesn’t mean they’re chumps, doesn’t mean they’re soft, doesn’t mean anything. That’s just how they respond to it.”
And has he ever cried after a game?
“No. Uh, no.”

March 8th, 2011 at 1:35 pm
let Aso go
re-sign huff
draft mallett to develop, OL, LB in draft
sign santana moss
sign a free agent RT
what do you think? i think that sounds like a solid 2011 team. i think we are only inches away from playoffs just a couple of ingredients we need. all up to coaching after that.

Ricky Brown had like 1 tackle in his only start in 2010. Romo later said “U’ve gotta be kidding me! U put someone as MLB and he has 1 tackle the entire game?!” He just about was exploding in a way only he could.
I love Romo’s passion for the game. I know I know he was probably on so many supplements and was emotionally unstable to attack a teammate but I take that any day over Rolando McLain’s blah blah attitude taking himself out of the most important game of the year against Jacksonville with the entire season riding on it for a freaking foot pain. Romo would have taken 50 pain killer shots just to be in that game and would have played his heart out. Rolando McLain wouldn’t even think of doing that.
Passion………. Passion……Passion………. Passion……Passion………. Passion……Passion………. Passion……Passion………. Passion……Passion………. Passion……Passion………. Passion……Passion………. Passion……Passion………. Passion……Passion………. Passion……Passion………. Passion……Passion………. Passion……Passion………. Passion……Passion………. Passion……Passion………. Passion……

Whaat Tiki on a come back trail? He did retire at the top of his game, so you never know, he may have some juice in those legs still..id take Tiki in my roster at a veterans minimum anyday..he would bring a wealth of leadership and, a strong locker room presence.
March 8th, 2011 at 2:39 pm
Loper starting should be a “worst case scenario” type thing. He filled in pretty well for Gallery, and he fits the power blocking scheme, but that’s about it. I doubt he could keep up his level of play over 16 (18?) games.
The Raiders need to address RT, and either OG or C depending on how the draft shakes out.
If the starters along the offensive line are the same as last years’, plus Loper in place of Gallery, Campbell in place of Carlisle, and Henderson in place of Walker, the pass protection is going to be abysmal yet again. And I can’t see the run blocking off the right side improving with Mario Henderson. I know the guy has his fans around here, but he’s not a guy who should be starting.

Wasn’t Tiki a whiny biotch who railed against Coughlin after he retired only to see Coughlin win the SB?

Cried like a baby when he had to buy the wife that million $ ring after the rape trial.
March 8th, 2011 at 2:46 pm
Per Mike Florio:
The Raiders last month gave defensive lineman Richard Seymour a two-year, $30 million contract. That part is accurate.
The deal widely was reported as having $22.5 million guaranteed. That part was less accurate.
Per a league source, only $15 million was fully guaranteed upon signing. That guarantee comes in the form of a guaranteed base salary of $15 million.
The other $7.5 million in guaranteed money is guaranteed for injury only. On the fifth day of the 2012 league year, the amount becomes fully guaranteed. The deal also carries a $7.5 million roster bonus that becomes guaranteed on the fifth day of the 2012 league year.
Thus, Seymour signed a one-year, $15 million deal, and he gave the Raiders an exclusive option on a second one-year, $15 million deal. He’ll get $22.5 million guaranteed only if he suffers a catastrophic injury in 2011.

sounds like most of the so-called “zbs guys” or “Cable guys” (O-Line scrubs, as I call them) will be retained… guess they were really Al Davis favorites instead!
the only guys who aren’t will probably be Robert Gallery – because Al Davis doesn’t overpay OL and Cooper Carlisle – because Bruce Campbell is about the start the scholarship program @ RG
Does Hue Jackson REALLY want an O-Line that looks like this: Veldheer-Loper-Satele-Campbell-Walker ???

i don’t see where the problem is, if we get a OL with our 2nd rounder or a FA to start at guard or tackle and sprinkle in some depth we should be good.
WR, LB, OL and Safety are our priorities.

Fisher cried not Kobe. Kobe is the most underrated bball player in history. One MVP award? You’re telling me Rose is better than Kobe? What about Lebron last year? Or Nowitzki when he won his? Or Nash twice? Kobe can guard the quickest guards (Rondo, Westbrook, Parker) or the biggest 3’s (Lebron, Pierce, Anthony) Jordan could NEVER do that

keep in mind sacks don’t always come from linemen. most of our problem is that our WR can’t get in and out of their breaks quickly and don’t get separation. WRs and timing drastically reduce pressure

So you are saying Hue Jackson and Al Sauders cannot develop a quarterback? So the Ravens developed Joe Flacco and not Hue Jackson?
March 8th, 2011 at 4:05 pm
With the final numbers coming out, the Seymour deal actually looks pretty decent. Raiders aren’t locked in long-term, and if he happens to dramatically fall off next year, the Raiders can cut their losses. Since it’s a short term deal, the Raiders had to pay a bit of a per-year premium, but I think it’s worth it to provide long term flexibility. In essence, it a two year franchise tag, with the second year being an option.

It seems like this has become Al’s strategy for contracts. He has moved to short-term deals with higher per-year salaries rather than long-term deals with lower per-year salaries. When he said he was going to change his ways from those Javon Walker and MeAngelo Hall deals, he wasn’t lying. He will always shell out cash for players, but it looks like they just won’t be ridiculous looking long-term deals.
