Dear Coach Davis,

Can we get rid of Sanjay Lal and hire the G.O.A.T. Jerry Rice?! We have Woodson, how about another Hall of Famer?

Priesttj,

A player drafted in 2002 or 2003 should be in their prime production years right now....year 7 through 10. They should be leading contributors. Especially high round draft picks.

The fact that this team has only THREE players that were drafted/acquired before 2004 shows exactly why this team has such a LACK of leadership and tradition.

Sorry...make that two once Nnamdi departs for a SB contender for NO COMPENSATION!

And the two remaining are the kicker and punter.

The Raiders depend almost exclusively on free agent acquisitions....many of whom are either near the end of their careers or are fighting to stay relevant in the league.

Hard to win when you have little leadership on the roster and coaches keep getting churned in and out with shocking regularity.

Will the Raiders continue the progress from last year? I hope so with the QB and front 7 returning.

But it is going to be HARD to do with a brand new defensive staff, struggling wide receivers, new TE, mostly new secondary and a 28th ranked run defense.

That's why getting draft picks for Nnamdi could have really helped this year. But nope, clung to the dream and now will have nothing to show for his departure...or Michael Huff for that matter.

You don't get better losing pro-bowl players...you certainly don't get better letting pro-bowl players leave for nothing

SnB I really don't think you understand this sport. Do you realize it's 2011? That's 11 years since 2000 does that make sense? the average NFL career is less than 4 years. And you think we're supposed to have players drafted back in 2003 still in this secondary LOL man get a freakin clue dude. This league has the highest turnover ratio of any sport. If your secondary consist of players you brought in in the last 5 years you are very lucky. Especially with FA you're lucky to have them from the last 3 years.

That is why you draft every year due to attrition you have to replenish on a yearly basis at every position. The league grinds you out at every position. You stop drafting any position and in two years you'll be paper thin. It's the nature of the beast. This league will take the best players you can find chew them up and spit them out.

You'll have a small % of great players that last 6-8 years but by in large the high rate of attrition demands you continuously draft at every position.

Someone who becomes a fan of this sport would figure that out in 5 years time or less. It boggles my mind the comments you make seems like their made more out of frustration than common sense.

Todd Christensen was one of the best tight ends of all time. He was also the most annoying broadcaster of all time.

............

"That's the nature of the beast". LOL. Remember how he used to always say that?

This is why Belichek traded Seymour early. He traded him knowing there was a good chance he wouldn't re-sign him.

So instead of gettign nothing....he's got an extra 1st round pick to work with.

Al Davis clung to Nnamdi way too long. Hopefully he can salvage the situation...but the Raiders should have received another 1st rounder or a couple of 2nd rounders.

Not some token late 3rd round comp pick

just a thought.

trading our 1st rounder in 2012 might not be such a bad idea considering the rest of the league expects us to have a low pick and we might just have the playoffs next year. with the party, davis’ health, the fact that we haven’t worked out any (to the best of my knowledge) locks as 2nd round prospects, and a new head coach i believe davis uses it to move into the 1st for either a DB (amakamura?)a WR (julio jones?) or OL (Mike Pouncey?). don’t forget von miller is up there and is a natural OLB in a 4-3 though teams might convert him to DE in 3-4

its possible we trade up into the 20s but im 80% sure we trade up.

And to lose Nnamdi and get NO COMPENSATION is a major setback.

If they didn't want to re-sign him, then peddle the guy for a 1st round pick or a basket of picks.

Stop clinging to fading dreams and get on with it!

Raiders spent on defensive backs since 2000:

5 1st round picks (Gibson, Buchanan, Aso, Fabian, Huff
3 2nd round picks (Routt, Mitchell & deAngelo Hall

And for all that investment we are going to have a secondary of:

Routt, CJ/McFAdden, Branch/Ware, Mitchell

And with this group, its hardly a given that Routt and Mitchell are truly top tier players at their positions

I hope that with Nnamdi's pending departure, that Al Davis stops spending on DBs and focuses all his picks on D-Lineman and O-Lineman

all that investment and we end up with a veeerrrrry questionable secondary
