Goodell on NFL without a CBA

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Monday, April 25th, 2011 at 9:32 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Here NFL commissioner Roger Goodell’s take on life in the NFL without a collective bargaining agreement in a column on the Wall Street Journal.

Sounds as if the owners aren’t finished digging in.

The whole “no draft” argument is particularly topical considering the annual player selection meeting scheduled for Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Ahh the WSJ. Rupert Murdocks prize conquest. Right wing hack paper now. No wonder the billionaires spoke out in the WSJ.

  • Nnamdi21

    Pizz off Goodell.

“For many years, the collectively bargained system—which has given the players union enhanced free agency and capped the amount that owners spend on salaries—has worked enormously well for the NFL, for NFL players, and for NFL fans.”

    =====

Oh NOW the owners are on board with a CBA!!!

“Oh, this decision will ruin the game and alter what has been such a successful league!”

This is a BS piece of crap Goodell you and your billionaie buddies SUCK!

Like it wasn’t YOU that wanted an 18 game season and to radically alter pay?

    Yuck.

    5. Yawn. Don’t they know racism is over with? Its about class wars now. The ultra rich vs all of us…

  • priesttj

Fans grow to accept this as fact and expect it when a black QB takes the field. It’s because of these word pictures that guys like mayock paint. They do it both ways by praising the white counterpart and saying he’ll come early and stay late. And then question the degree of committment by the black QB. That tells the fan then why are we takiing this guy he wont work hard. When the same is true of both players it’s just that when the white QB fails those kind of words are not attached to him as they are said to describe WHY the black player failed when they both failed for similar reasons.

Brady Qinnn and Matt Leinert were both bigtime partyers and didn’t dedicate themselves to the game. because they were rich good looking and had all they trimmings of fame and glory. But both are on rosters in the NFL while the black counterpart is selling insurance.

This stuff never stops if you can’t start and you’re black you are OUT!!!……..period unless you have been a starter over a period of time and proven. But you can be a complete and utter BUM and if you’re white you’ll stay on a roster have a 10-12 year career, and never start another game. I gaurantee you Brady Quinn will have a 10 year career same as David Carr and so many others.

  • GoodOle00

Am I the only one a little out of sorts about us being EXCITED about an upcoming season?

Yep, I agree, and it goes on all day here on this blog, with the same posters.

    So fukn obvious!

  • GoodOle00

Goodell and his billionaire aholes laughably try to demonize the evil players union lawyers. “Its the lawyers! You guys hate those right?”

Well what about your dirt bag lawyers?

Try to tell us player benefits doubled in last 10 yrs like they’re being wildly over compensated when guys like Jerry Jones are building billion dollar monuments incapable of seating Super Bowl fans and splitting up billions in tv revenues and merch and ticket prices and on and on.

    You got greedy owners. Yuck!!!

  • Harder2000

Let’s hope they reach an agreement, at least a temporary one..
One of the advantages about the NFL imo has been the relative conformity between team power levels.. Some teams have been good for periods, bad for others, but usually every team has periods where they are competitive and a playoff team.. In European Soccer almost only the most wealthy teams have a chance to compete for the national championships, often leaving little excitement for the bottom teams.. If the owners in the NFL are free to use the ammounts they see fit, the differences in salary levels and talent level will vary a lot, creating a large gap between the best and the worst teams that is not likely to be changed unless some rich investor decides to invest heavily, which would only happen to a few teams.. Just don’t see the interest in that!
.. But maybe this switch of power towards the players will make the Owners submit to a deal soon, before the draft perhaps, claring up some of the uncertainty.. Lets hope so..

    HEY ROCKSTAR,HOW’S THE FAMILY ?

  • RaiderRockstar

Just got a return e-mail from Raiders tight end and player rep Zach Miller with regard to judge Susan Nelson’s ruling for an injunction to lift the NFL lockout.

“I have told my guys that they are free to go back to work.,” Miller said. “Any player that chooses to should be allowed to go into the facility tomorrow.”

That would also include treatment for injuries.

    ***

    JFB & Jhill,

would you suggest that Zmiller be at the facility this morning to work on his blocking?

I don’t guess having a fat receiver at FB and a bunch of cast offs and late rounders on the O-Line has anything to do with the amount of pressure JCamp receives this season. Also, I wonder if DMAC & Bush have improved pass protection? That was the #1 reason Justin Fargas stuck around so long

  • RaiderRockstar

I think it’s because “Black” confidence comes off like arrogance. Kim Newton proclaimed himself as an Icon and Entertainer now that may have been a joke but it came off as arrogance to fans and to Kim it was surely confidence(he can never stop smiling).Tom Brady is the same way though and when you see him he is also always smiling and acting like he is the best but he has 3 rings, is a current Football Icon and a future Hall of Famer. I don’t like Kim, I don’t like Tom the only QB I like is Peyton Manning he acts like he’s been there before and he’s humble.

ALL IS GOOD ROCKSTAR,SOME HEALTH ISSUES LAST FEW MONTHES BUT..WITCH WAY THE RAIDERS GOING THIS WEEKEND,O-LINE,MAYBE A QB,WHATS UR OPINION ?

  • Just Fire Baby

Hopefully Miller is working on whatever it is one works on to become a better blocker.

Only hole in his game right now.

No, the 2011 Draft is guaranteed under the expired CBA and will go on as scheduled. Goodell was saying that going forward without a CBA that there would be no draft.

Thats not true. The 32 owners never said that they planned on changing the equal revenue sharing. You think Al Davis or Ralph Wilson or these other small market owners would EVER agree to large market teams getting a bigger piece of the pie? No chance.

  • Just Fire Baby

Every interview I ever seen with Cam, he flounders through most of it, than when it comes to discussing Cam Newton, he flashes that smile with the dimples and lights up.

I think he is his own biggest fan.

    5.Demarcus Van Dyke(CB) D+

  • hwnrdr

I know, that would be hard for him to swallow…

  • bcz24

Mallet? The only thing seperating Mallet from Jamarcus Russell will be about $30 million. He is as slow as NFL player gets (I think Seabass posts a better 40) and he doesnt seem to have the drive and ethic it takes to be an NFL QB… NO NO NO to Mallet.

    Good Morning Nation.

  • Harder2000

@Bcz24, I agree – just wrote it poorly.. IF there were to be none agreements that would be the case, but it is not in the interest of the fans, the majority of the players or the majority of the owners, so an agreement of some sorts will happen sooner or later (I would think).. Was trying to point out that a deal with these elements is important imo, as it is clearly of interest to the fans and most players and owners..

  • bcz24

Al is going to trade for NEs first rounder (28th I think?) He is going to give up this years 2 and next years 2 I think. Maybe more though, might toss in next years 3…

  • Harder2000

Ryan Mallets 5.36 40 yard dash time is definately slower than JaMarcus Russels’ 4.83 which is just faster than Devlin and Dalton.. Russel actually had a pretty good 10 split of 1.67..
