Priest – I thought you were joking around with the meaning of FFCA. I watched a little bit of Gruden’s show today on ESPN and that sht really does stand for Fired Football Coaches Assoc.

    ************************

Anyways. Draft coming up soon. Its been such an odd year/offseason. No Training Camp. No real reports from Jer to that effect. I’m curious to know the players maturity. Hopefully we can get up to speed quick. The season is right around the corner.

  2. TerrapinRaider Says:

Oh yeah. I saw that Raider Hater Adam Scheftner today. He’s lucky I was suited up.

  3. priesttj Says:

I’m just curious what the conversation was like between Hue and the players that got in trouble. Bush, McClain and Henderson.

I gaurantee you nnamdi has been contacted and they’re getting ready to sign him as soon as it’s doable.

  4. RaiderRockstar Says:

Oakland Raiders: Stefen Wisniewski, C/G, Penn State

As Greg Cox wrote in his 2011 NFL Mock Draft, Stefen Wisniewski makes a ton of sense for the Raiders. His uncle Steve played 13 seasons for Al Davis, qualifying for the Pro Bowl eight times. Steve was recently hired as an assistant coach.

    walterfootball.com

their mock has 7 QB’s taken in the first 45 picks!

  5. priesttj Says:

People think Gruden is kidding around when he says things like This and that will get you fired. His firing from Tampa really screwed with his head. I’m not sure he wants to coach again unless it’s the right situation. As I’ve said many times he just got a little too big headed and thought his stuff didn’t stink.

Had he been just a bit more patient he could’ve had a real career here. Instead he was demanding all kinds of crap he hadn’t proven that he deserved if he stays and wins a SB he would’ve gotten whatever he wanted within reason. Maybe wee win back to back SB’s but then he would’ve done the same thing. Head too big!!

  6. priesttj Says:

Now Hue Jackson is in line for becoming the darling of the Raider Nation. If he can mastermind a trip to the SB and win it at Mr Davis’ age he’ll turn this organization over to him, relatively speaking. And I think Hue is just mature enough to know how to handle that.

  7. priesttj Says:

That would be a HUGE mistake 7 QB’s in first 45 licks most of these guys are at least 2 years away. I wouldn’t even take Cam Newton #1 overall. He’s just too green and so are most of them, tghe demand to get a QB is pushing these guys much higher than they ranked. In a normal situation there are only 3 that should go in the first two rnds. Guys like Kaepernick and Locker should be 3rd rnd picks the rest even later and you’ll get great value. Gabbert is a very solid high 2nd rndr, Newton low 1st and Mallett low 1st. The rest 3rd and after. And you’ll get good value.

  8. GoodOle00 Says:

NFLN says Redskins are willing to trade up to #2 to get laine Gabbert.

They should do their homework. Frankly, I hope they dop so Denver doesn’t get Dareus.

  9. TerrapinRaider Says:

Absolutely. And thats the thing. All of these QBs need work or are projects. Why they are so high on the boards is beyond belief. They don’t stack up talent wise to the Mannings, Bradford, VY, Cutler, not even that bust JR. If any of those guys were in this draft they would make these guys look stupid.

Cam Newton is a late first at best. I agree with Charlie Casserly there. He has him a a late 1st too.

Teams are really reaching this draft. Most of these QBs won’t pan out. Thats the truth. If they do it may only be the 2nd time in history (and I can’t really recall the 1st).

Mayock believes as many as 8 can be drafted in the top 3, maybe even 2 with a stretch. To me, that simply means lots of talent should fall to us in other areas if this happens. All the same by me.

  10. RaiderDuck Says:

Cam Newton is JaMarcus 2.0. Anybody who takes him will probably lose his job over the pick.

I’d LOVE to see Oakland take one of the top RT’s (Carpenter or Gilbert) in Round 2, then Stefan Wiz in Round 3. That would be perfect. They could follow up with a developmental-type QB in the later rounds….

  11. TerrapinRaider Says:

Well maybe mid to late 1st for Cam Newton. But a mid is kinda stretching it for me as he needs to sit for a few by most indications.

But these teams need QBs …so what do you do?

  12. priesttj Says:

Man that is scary the Redskins have made some monumental mistakes drafting QB’s. Heath Shuler to begin with and I cannot think of one QB in 50 years that the Redskins drafted that was successful. I think they traded for Joe Theisman or picked him up as a FA after he was a bust somewhere else. I gaurantee you they wish they had kept Campbell, now they’re spending another high draft pick on a QB. If campbell is successful here Shanahan is going to look like a complete idiot especially if he drafts another bust. Teams are desparate for QB’s and they’re reaching like crazy. That’s why I want to get a good young QB now when we don’t need him.

????? You mean the Raiders not Redskins, yes?

  14. edward teach Says:

All this talk about quarterbacks, and I understand. Campbell is the last year of his contract, and he may or may not be a Raider after that. Also, there’s nobody behind him that inspires a whole lot of confidence.

We may take one, and as I said I understand the reasoning, but if we don’t address the offensive line in a serious manner (meaning, not settling for late-round projects as an afterthought) it’s not going to matter who the quarterback is.

  15. RaiderDuck Says:

My big problems with Cam Newton:

    Played in the SEC.

Had awesome OL’s that kept the pressure off.

Wants to be an “Icon” more than a football player,

Questionable commitment to learning his craft.

Sound (JaMarcus) like anyone (JaMarcus) else you’re familar (JaMarcus) with?

  16. priesttj Says:

If they don ‘t address the Oline we would all be shocked so that’s that. But i would get a QB now when we don’t need to and get it OVER WITH.

  17. Kirk Says:

    I agree RaiderDuck.

O line first then a QB in the later rounds.

  18. priesttj Says:

I have that same problem with Mallett, most young kids tend to not have priorities in order.

  19. 504 Raider Says:

    What up Nation!

I get those bleecher report emails and I know most of the time they’re full of crap. But today’s version had a good idea.

It had Al trading a 3rd or 4th to the Titans for Vince Young.

  20. RaiderDuck Says:

    @SD4Raider:
Trading a 4th Rounder for Vince Young? A somewhat more mobile JaMarcus? No thanks.

  21. edward teach Says:

    Priest,

It is absolutely possible to reach for a QB in the 2nd round, if for no other reason than to get a certain player before someone else does. I just really hope that the reasoning is more sound than that when we pick.

I would rather get an offensive lineman that can help protect the quarterback we have with our second-rounder than use that pick on a QB that may or may not be a quality starter down the road.

I don’t share your view that a couple of the talked-about QBs are going to slip to the third and fourth rounds, and this class does not get me excited at all. That tells me that if we’re going to take a QB it will be early, and I just don’t see any slam dunks at #48 that would let me pass up a good, solid lineman that could help us right away.

  22. priesttj Says:

ET do you see any slam dunk Olineman? the sam egoes for any player we draft I’m not sure why people think if we draft a Lineman he’s automatically going to be a great player.

I just want a player and I want to get a QB for the future so we don’t have to use a high pick later. But only if it’s the QB Hue wants I’m not for grabbing some guy just to say we did. If there is a stud Olineman they really want I’m all for it. But I don’t want one just to say we got one.

  23. 504 Raider Says:

The only similarity between VY and JaMarcus was in the movie “Amistad.” Other than that, there is NO comparison.

  24. Gust372 Says:

Raiders should dump Campbell, make whatever moves necessary to draft Cam Newton, hang on to all of the proven good players possible, pay them whatever you have to. Then, we’ll see.

  25. priesttj Says:

Incidently NO ONE wants to solidify more than I do b ut to be honest I’m just not that crazy about the Oline players in this draft. There are a few if we can get them I would love to have like Danny Watkins and afew others but man I’ll be pissed if we whiff on one and then don’t get a young QB. I would rather take a RB than draft a lineman everybody’s happy and the guy can’t play.

  26. Gust372 Says:

Whoever drafts Cam Newton wins the Super Bowl in 3 years. You can take that to the bank. So, why not us? Let’s get him. And start him. Because he would be the best QB on our roster by a long shot. He’s on that Manning level. He starts right away.

  27. priesttj Says:

Retards make some ignorant inflamatory statements to get a rise out of people because they’re incapable of intelligent insightful conversation.

  28. Gust372 Says:

Oh, is that why you make inflammatory statements, priest?

  29. GoodOle00 Says:

    27. BINGO!

  30. Gust372 Says:

Oh, I agree with him, too. He just doesn’t realize he’s talking about himself.

Marcus Cannon tests positive for lymphoma

Source: Marcus Cannon tests positive for lymphoma
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on April 26, 2011, 12:30 PM EDT
    MarcusCannon

TCU offensive lineman Marcus Cannon has tested positive for a treatable form of lymphoma after a battery of tests, a league source tells PFT.

The good news for Cannon is that this form of non-Hodgkin lymphoma is treatable. The timing of the news is unfortunate of course just days before the draft.

A rumor was circulated last month that Cannon had testicular cancer, which isn’t true. A biopsy was then performed to clear the matter up, with the results sent to all 32 teams.

Unfortunately, the results of the biopsy showed that Cannon has lymphoma. Doctors had previously been aware of a benign mass that was present for years and is in his stomach/pelvic area.

Doctors are recommending that Cannon will have to undergo chemotherapy, which could be potentially finished in 12 weeks. Even if Cannon has the most advanced stage of the disease, he could be finished with treatments in 24 weeks and the doctors have informed Cannon he could “hopefully” continue with his football career at that time.

We wish Cannon all the best at this difficult time as he readies to treat the disease.

    *************************

So the question of the moment is how far will Marcus Cannon fall in the draft given his now diagnosed yet curable illness?

  33. RaiderDuck Says:

    @Gust372:

“Whoever takes Cam Newton wins the Super Bowl in 3 years”

-The same Cam Newton who’s had all kind of off-the-field crap?

-The same Cam Newton who said he wants to be an “Icon” rather than an NFL QB?

-The same Cam Newton who’s thrown only 230+ college passes?

    Uh, no.

  34. Gust372 Says:

Nobody plays D on Kobe. If Kobe played in the ’80s he’d average 15 pts a game and would have only been in the league 6 or 7 years.

  35. JB Says:

Maybe if we can pick up Cannon in the 4th or 5th round, assuming he lasts that long, he can be another steal like Michael Bush was (4th round, 1st pick – broken leg).

  36. Gust372 Says:

Cam Newton hasn’t had any “off the field crap”. He’s a good kid with good character.

No, he never “heisted” a lap top. Keep digging that hole. You’ll have no credibility by the time the night’s over.

  39. HayesDaze37 Says:

It’s a great night to be a Raiders fan! Isn’t it?!

Status quo with MR and KK…nothing valuable to add to any conversation, so throwing the BS on the proverbial wall hoping it sticks has to suffice.

No “off the field crap” for Kim Newton? I guess he stole that laptop on the 50-yard line? The vest and tie and shiny mortician’s smile can’t hide the guy’s true personality… it’s weak and elusive and sly…only topped by his dumber-er father.

Hoisting the Lombardi in 3?? He hasn’t proven he can hoist a football yet. He may be good someday…but he won’t be good this year. He’ll be eaten alive by pros that will be able to contain his escaping style, while he won’t be able to regularly hit a target 25 yards away.

The cost for the Raiders to move up and snag the potential JaMarcus2 would be astronomical, with no higher a guarantee for success.

MR advocating for such a move just shows how little he really knows about football, the Team, or the draft. Combined with his pathological need to throw out the stupidest comments just for attention, and it’s a comic feast…only KK and few trolls take him seriously. A tragic comedy it is.

  40. Gust372 Says:

He never stole a lap top. Anyone who’s actually looked into the details of that story knows it. But of course, Hayez, whenever people of a certain ethnicity are accused of committing a crime, they’re guilty until proven innocent in your mind, right? Your calling him “JaMarcus2″ further proves my point. Raiders have fallen far from their days of being the NFL’s leader in diversity, haven’t they?

Whoever drafts Cam Newton will be Super Bowl champions in 3 years. It could be us. If we make the move to get him. Because Jason Campbell isn’t getting us past the .500 mark.

  41. HayesDaze37 Says:

Ethnicity?? Good try there, hypocrit BS-monger.

What’s ehtnicity got to do with this:

University police went to Newton’s dorm Friday, were invited inside and noticed the laptop on Newton’s desk. Officers left the room to confirm that the computer matched the serial code of the laptop reported stolen, according to the report. When they returned, it was gone.

According to police, the laptop had been painted black on the top and had “Cam Newton” written on the top in white paint. Officers found the computer behind a trash bin outside the dorm and learned that “Mr. Newton threw the computer out of his bedroom window,” the report said.

  44. Gust372 Says:

I read all of the stories pertaining to the incident. One of his friends stole it, he took the rap. You know how police are in the south. Newton might have been a hero to football fans but there’s still a lot of folks down there who love to see someone like him go down.

This is the funniest part of your comment:

    “source: espn”

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  45. Gust372 Says:

Well, I’m on to you, Hayez, and why you really don’t like Newton. JaMarcus2, huh? That gave it away.

  46. HayesDaze37 Says:

    AND…

Not only are the Raiders the team that has championed diversity more than any other in the past…the Raiders will never be eclipsed as the most diverse Organization in the League — their lead in that regard is so large.

Throwing out any other claim shows even more just how pathetically you must reach for ANY argument. More impressive stuff.

BTW — If you really wanted to state facts, youd state that I was one of Jamarcus’s ardent supporters, until it became obvious what a train wreck HE chose to be. I don’t have to be loyal to a player not loyal to my Team…even if it pleases little trolls like you to wallow with them.

    You bore me.

So…trying to paint me as something every regular reader in here knows I am not is just more hollow BS from you.

  51. 504 Raider Says:

MR was hiding behind that trash bin posting comments on this blog from Cam Newton’s laptop. He handed it over to the police when they arrived and told them “Cam didn’t do it.”

So you’re probably right MR. Maybe he did take the rap for a buddy.

  52. Gust372 Says:

If he didn’t steal the lap top, he’d have finished his career in Florida? That’s the dumbest thing you’ve ever said. On paper, he did it. He was framed. His future there was over. He just got involved with a bad crowd. That was his mistake. He’s no thief. This kid is the real deal and if the Raiders don’t do everything they can to get him, they’re destined to another 8 years of mediocrity.

  53. Gust372 Says:

Wow, 504. That was about as funny as your Amistad joke. Blatant racism and spreading false rumors…that’s the only way you guys can criticize Newton. The Raider Nation. What a fall from grace. “JaMarcus2″… Pathetic.

Mallett would be more of a sequal to Jamarcus than Cam would be.

Then you look at these past 2-3 drafts and see what rookies like Flacco, Sanchez, Bradford are doing. Even 7th rounders or UFAs like Warner coming into the league -putting their team on their back and carrying to superbowls.

I believe that teams in need of a QB can only hope and to strike gold. You can never really know how a player that will make a load of cash is goin to turn out. I think it’s more more common the modest players are the bread and butter of teams.

I know what you are saying but in defense of Gruden he did win a Superbowl with Dungy’s team I might add!!! But the bottom line is the guy won a Superbowl.

I would loved it if he would have got that “W” with the Raiders instead of aginst us but you have to give the guy credit for a Superbowl. Sorry but I can’t call that a bad move. P;us, he is making big time cash talking about the game he is passionate about with enough time to be at home. You can’t do that as a head coach. He is in a good pair of shoes.

You know RR now that you posted that it is amazing that we are even in the position we were last year after our picks. The $ tied up in Russel, DHB, and our lame free agent picks the last 4-5 years should have killed us!

Interesting PFT article on how the Cowboys haven’t drafted an O-linemanin the first round since 1981.

But since 1981, they have won 4 titles, had one of the greatest O-lines ever in the early 90’s, and even developed a second round of a really good O-line in middle of this past decade.

All 2nd and 3rd round picks, with a few undrafted FA’s.

That’s how you develop an O-line and a team. Skill position players first in the draft, O-line later.

    ***

    JFB,

we don’t have a 1st rounder this draft and 2007-2009 we selected Russell, McFadden, DHB.

    2nd & 3rd rounders spent on O-Line this year ???

It would be awesome to get little Wiz at #48 and somebody like Gilbert, Brewer, Rackley or Moffitt in Round 3! but where do they fit?

I see Veldheer-Loper-Satele-Campbell-(RT Barnes or Walker?)

If Cooper Carlisle sticks at RG, BCamp gets the RT job and we don’t need to sign or re-sign any starters for the OL imo

I said yesterday that I thought Al would pick up Chad Johnson and reunite him with Hue, but today I say not a chance! Why? Because I really think Al learned his lesson with free agents such as Walker, Hall, Moss and our rookie that everyone loves to hate Russell. I think at one time Al would have jumped all over a guy that use to be “Mr. It” with a bad attitude but not anymore. I think the organization as a whole has started to realize how not drafting character guys or bringing in high character guys hurt this team.

Also, Owens was an available big possession WR, which we needed more desperately last year than this year and Al never pulled the trigger. Not even a visit or a thinking about it, nothing!

Lastly, I think Al likes the young guys developing on the team after a great draft last year. No more locker room cancers for Al. If he does bring in another group of veterans expect for them to be mentoring or team player types of guys like Rock Cartwright, or Richard Seymour.

  102. Buckeyeraider Says:

    G’morning fellas.

Did anybody else watch that Bill Parcells draft special on ESPN last night? That was pretty informative. Insight into how an org. runs it’s warroom.

The part I found interesting was when he was talking about drafting a franchise QB and the risk involved.

He said as a GM and an organization you can due all your due diligence, all your homework and scouting and everythng right. But there’s no sure thing.

He said you neverknow what you truly have until he gets on the field and actually faces adversity. When he gets on the field and fails. Gets his nose bloodied and throws three picks in a game. He’s the reason the team lost. The home fans turn on him and boo him off the field. His coaches are lookng at him sideways, and his veteran teammates are watchng him. The media turns on him and grills him in the post game press conferences.

Suddenly the kid who ws the Golden Boy and Big Man ON Campus in college. He was the star in HS and hometown hero starts questioning himself. Maybe even feeling sorry for himself and asking “why is this happening to me”?

Until that QB can walk back onto te practice field and reclaim the huddle and the confidence of the veterans, you just never truly know how it’s going to end up.

It could all go south in a hurry, or you could discover that you have a true franchise QB.

Until you find that out, it’s all just a crapshoot.

I thought it was interesting and informative. Hope some of you guys caught it as well.

  103. JB Says:

Didn’t see it, just lived it with JaLoser. He put this organization back 4-5 years. Just shows you how important a Manning or Brady really is. Gannon was our Prime QB & had he not been injured we’d have been a totally different team this last 7 years.

  104. Buckeyeraider Says:

I kept trying to look at Parcell’s “Big Board” in the background to see whre he had players slotted.

He had my boy John Moffitt slotted in the mid-fourth, which is about where he’s projected.

The one I found inteesting was Moffitt’s teammate, OT Gabe Carimi. Parcell’s had him slotted as an early 3rd. Which is what The Sporting News has him graded as well, I believe.

Mayock and Kiper all have him rated a surefire 1st rd pick, maybe even top 20. I don’t understand the discrepency. No way do I see Carimi sliding into the 3rd, IMO. Hell I’d be shocked and thrilled if he was there @48 for Oakland.

  105. daraider09 Says:

I want Owen Marecic. Has this been discussed? Obviously not in the 2nd round. But I also dont want the 49ers to grab him, so it might have to be in the 3rd round. That guy is a pure football player. The kind of player you want on your team. Leader!

  106. aig-raiders Says:

Hard to make a case for paying a guy $17-25 million per year that isn’t a QB imo

Nnamdi deserved $15 per year more than Seymour did. At least #21 is Top 3 in the Nfl at his position!

I just think Nnamdi wants to play for a winner and Al Davis is tired of paying more money than anybody else would for his services, which is probably what his agent is lobbying for

  111. priesttj Says:

Colin Kaepernick is being interviewed by Rick Tittle right now, the kid said in the combine he showed scouts he has by far the sstrongest arm in the draft. I DID NOT know that….

Suffice to say this kid has unlimited potential, the travesty of Russell(by all concerned) can be corrected with one single phrase “with the 48th pick of the second round the Oakland Raiders select quarterback Colin Kaepernick of the university of Nevada”.

  112. RaiderRockstar Says:

How do you offer Richard Seymour $15 million per season for a 31st & 29th ranked Run Defense and 9.5 sacks over the past 2 seasons combined?

then turn around and offer your best O-Lineman with the 2nd best rushing attack in the league only $2.5 million or walk the plank?

Seems like we’re paying for his name moreso than his contributions to the team. Who cares what he did in New England? Does riding the bus with rookies make a guy deserving of a highest paid Defense player in the NFL contract at 31 years old?

I know “it’s not my money” but it’s also piss poor management & player negotiations

Gallery & Carlisle were a heck of a lot better than Loper & Campbell are going to be at Guard. That’s probably the #1 reason I want lil Wiz drafted if 7 QB’s are off th board when we’re on the clock at #48

  113. irjonny Says:

on board with you for sure. i’m convinced that when the raiders had him in the building they were blown away by his smarts ability. for sure hue wants his guy and al would love to correct the jr mistake. campbell is a perfect mentor. go get him al if that’s your guy. plenty of OL in this draft. our starting LT was a 3rd rounder from last year. we have bruce and loper at G. free agency is around for a reason and we can beef up line with vets if need be. ultimately you don’t want to pass up a qb you like and see him win with another team. i think that’s the pick tomorrow

  114. irjonny Says:

  115. RaiderRockstar Says:

Which QB of the Top 10 projected has the best accuracy, fewest turnovers & most starting experience?

    GIVE ME THAT GUY !!!

attitude & TD’s can be adjusted. even winning ballgames

I don’t care about a QB’s height, arm strength or 40 time. Don’t care what school he played for either

  116. Buckeyeraider Says:

    TJ and Jonny,

I agree. It could be an ideal situaion. Let Colin K sit behind JC next year. He does have an impressive arm for sure. There was a play in that game vs Mizzou where he zipped a pass about 35 yds downfield, and it looked effortless.

They talk about a hitch in his motion, but he semed to zip the ball on a rope with the flick of the wrist. Plus, with his big arm and impressive mobility he could be lethal on play-action bootlegs and rollouts.

He’s going to need to sit and learn, though. He’s going to be a bit of a project because he didn’t seem to take a single snap from under center…everything from the pistol. Probably have to redo his footwork.

Sounds like a good, smart, hard working kid, too. I hope he’s still there and there isn’t that run on QB’s early in rd 2 that many are predicting.

    1. Cornerback

The reason: Three-time Pro Bowler Nnamdi Asomugha isn’t expected back for a ninth season because of his steep asking price.

The prospects: Ras-I Dowling, Virginia; Jimmy Smith, Colorado; Brandon Harris, Miami; Davon House, New Mexico State; Buster Skrine, Tennessee-Chattanooga.

    2. Quarterback

The reason: Starter Jason Campbell and backup Kyle Boller turn 30 this season and aren’t under contract beyond 2011.

The prospects: Jake Locker, Washington; Colin Kaepernick, Nevada; Christian Ponder, Florida State; Andy Dalton, Texas Christian; Ryan Mallett, Arkansas.

    3. Offensive tackle

The reason: Langston Walker, Mario Henderson and Khalif Barnes are free agents, and none is a certainty to be re-signed.

The prospects: Nate Solder, Colorado; Benjamin Ijalana, Villanova; James Carpenter, Alabama; Marcus Gilbert, Florida.

Corkran has the Raider draft priorities wrong IMO. O-Line should #1 on the list and CB should be #3!

if hue jackson can make a playoff contender out of flacco, imagine what he could do with kaepernick’s abilities. if campbell lights it up, awesome. just more time for kappy to learn. qb first league, no question.

  119. Buckeyeraider Says:

    IrJonny,

I’m sure there are probably highlights on youtube somebody could post a link to. I saw it on ESPNU the other night.

They have been replaying a series of college games the last couple of weeks showcasing upcoming draft prospects.

The other night they showed Nevada vs Mizzou from 2009. It was mostly the Blaine Gabbert show. He did look impressive, but Nevada D didn’t offer much resistance. Moch was disapointing.

Kaepernick defenitely flashed some potential, including the play I mentioned.

I also watched a replay of the Rose Bowl from last year Andy Dalton and TCU vs Wisconsin. I was really impressed with OG/C John Moffitt. I wanna see that guy in Silver & Black also.

Broncos DE/OLB Jason Hunter was reportedly taken to a Detroit hospital after being stabbed in the left shoulder Tuesday night.

Hunter’s girlfriend has been taken into custody, though he reportedly does not want to pursue felonious assault charges. There’s no word on the severity of his condition.

    Priest,

To address your point from last night… there aren’t many slam-dunks, ever, in the NFL Draft. I see your point about QB vs. O-line in round 2, and I respect that. Trust me, if we take a QB there I’ll be on board.

My point is, that QB of all positions is a hit-or-miss proposition. You can take a lineman early and unless you totally blow it the guy’s probably going to start for you and be at least pretty good for awhile. We need help on the o-line, obviously. I guess I’m a little more sketchy about the QBs in this draft than you are, and think that it’s a whole lot less risky to take an o-lineman early in this draft than it is a QB.

If we take a QB early I will hope like heck that I’m wrong about that.

  143. irjonny Says:

imo we have DHB/Schilens, Murphy/Ford, all our guys are young and the raiders want them to start and succeed. steve smith would be expected to start all year. not what the raiders want. santana moss is older, can mentor, can come in when needed, knows campbell, won’t whine, and will be cheap. i think that’s our guy at wr in free agency. DHBs third year is not the year you give up on him as an owner, he will start

  144. priesttj Says:

Debo what would you do to get Russell back on this team? In good standing!! Kap is a work in progress and doesn’t quite have the skill set but he aint far behind. Talent wise their almost equals Russell was just a bit more skilled but Kap is faster a better leader and just as competitive when the game is on the line. This kid is a fiery competitor and can match Russell throw for throw in arm strength.

If you told me I could get a fired up ready to work JaMarcus Russell I’d take him over probably 80% of the starting QB’s in this league. Well this kid Kappy in 2 years could be at that level IMO. I’ll give up any Olineman in this or any other draft for a top 5 QB in the NFL.

There isn’t an Olineman in this draft better at his position than Kappy is at his, not one.

I do respect Gallery. He restructed his contract twice to free up cap space. Just has an inflated sense of worth.

  147. priesttj Says:

ET I understand why you and most people want the Oline pick trust me I get it…….I want the Oline fixed too, more than anyone. But you don’t get many chances to draft a special talent at that position in the second round. I wish the word wasn’t out on Kappy as much as it is but, it is what it is. I also like Locker if he falls I’ll take him in a heartbeat. But the Oline in this draft is WEAK!!

Most of you love Wiz kid but IMO he is a 3rd or 4th rndr he just has name recognition. If he were as good ass his uncle OK, but he aint. I would much prefer to get this young QB in the stable and not have to wory about it anymore and then proceed to biult the rest of the team with the comfort of having the QB position secure for the future.

  148. edward teach Says:

We have several needs, and could use a few more picks IMO. A possibility could be a trade down with the Pats, trading our # 48 for their # 60 and # 92.
This woulod leave us to pursue an extra potential starter, as this draft doesnt seem very topheavvy, but pretty deep. In this case I wouldn’t mind seeing a draft like this:

    Rd. 2 : # 60, Orlando Franklin, OT/G
    - he projects as a great starting G who fits our system. He has been a little under the radar, but is a great player with a mean streak! Potentially this could be Ijalana, Rackley, Boling or Wiz who imo is better fit for the Zone scheme.

    Rd. 3a : # 81, Davon House, CB, / Curtis Brown, CB
Both are great CB’s who have shown they can play Man as we need, but most likely only one will be available. If both should be of the board Gilchrist, CB/FS, or DeAndre McDaniels S, could be potential picks.

    Rd. 3b : # 92, Bruce Davis, OLB
He is a great talent and have had a speedy recovery from his torn ACL, will be a dominant WILL during the season, or at least for the future. He may not be available, but then Foster, OLB, KJ Wright, OLB, or Casey Matthews, LB, might be.

    Rd. 4 : # 113, Jordan Cameron, TE
He is a great recieving TE, and his size and measerables make him a great fit for Hue’s system. We need a recieving threat next to Miller, and especially in two TE sets which Hue loves to run. His blocking can be coached up, but he seems to be a diamond in the rough. Virgil Green and Rob Housler could be other TEs of interest.

    Rd. 5 : # 148,Marcus Cannon, OT
Marcus Cannon is a great talent and could be a really good value here. He will fall drastically due to his cancer, as treatment will cause him to have extreme weightloss and render him unable to practice for up to 24 weeks. Also, doctors couldn’t guarantee that he would be able to play football again, although the speculations say he will. Regardless he will have to sit out the entire first season, but if he recovers he will be a future starter. Repeat story from that of Michael Bush who broke his leg and has proven to be a great #4 rd pick! IMO we would have to pick him here as he will not fall to us in the 6th, and he has great value – plus he fits the scheme. He could be gone however, in which case I would prefer DeMarcus Love, OT/G, Chris Hairston, OT, or Chris Culliver, CB/FS.

    Rd. 6 : # 181, Owen Marecic, FB
He is a punishing blocker who has played both ways as ILB and FB. He has a mean streak and could complement Reece greatly, as well as help wear down the defense. He could be gone this late however, especially as Harbaugh could be interested in bringing his own player with him. If he’s not available, Deunta Williams, FS, or Terrance Toliver (6′4″), WR, could be potential picks.

    Rd. 7a : # 219, David Mims, OT
This man is HUGE in every sense of the word! 6′8″, 335 Lbs and arms of 36+ inches. He could be gone, could even go a couple of rds before, but most see him as a 7th rder, and if he is available, he will be a great pick! He has potential to be a great Mauler, but he is from Division 2 and needs to adjust to especially speed rushers, but he could potentially move to G and add depth as a Mauler right away! If he is not available Byron Bell, OT, could be the choice. He is a large Mauler as well.

    Rd. 7b : # 241, Joe Lefeged, FS
He’s fast as a Raider and he has a knack for Big Plays with many Int’s to show for it. He could be molded and compete straight away. If he should be taken, Mana Silva, FS, or Chris Prosinski, FS, should be there.

Now, many feel we need a QB for the future, and I am inclined to agree. But as I see to many needs, especially a supporting cast, I wouldnt use our 2nd rd or trade up to get one who isn’t ready to start out the gate! Instead I would trade for Jimmy Clausen (with a player or 2012 draft picks), as reports have the Panthers shopping him cheaply after they draft their franchise QB! He has immense potential, and could very well become a great QB after a year on the bench without the pressure he had last season. If he don’t pan out, and JC doesn’t do it, we can get another one next year when the QB group is better!

Also, I’m not to much against our WR group, as I feel they have great potential! But we could use a legit #1 to assist Ford, Murphy, Hey-Bey and Schilens. We could try to get one in FA, but another option is Michael Floyd who almost certainly will go through the supplemental draft due to his suspension, and he is imo as good as any WR in this draft class! He should be available for us to grab with a #2 in 2012, and that would be great value!

    This would leave us with:

    Orlando Franklin, OT/G
    Davon House, CB
    Bruce Davis, OLB
    Jordan Cameron, TE
    Marcus Cannon, OT/G
    Owen Marecic, FB
    David Mims, OT/G
    Joe LeFeged, FS
    … through the draft, and
    Jimmy Clausen, QB
    Michael Floyd, WR
… through trade and supplemental draft..

IMO that would be really solid, several instant starters or valuable backups, and two injured players who could gain a starter role after full recovery.
Then FA could supply a couple of players to add veteran leadership and proven quality! Wouldn’t mind seeing this happen..

You gotta be on board for that move. We need a vet WR and dont let last year fool you. TO saw single coverage because of Chad. Imagine what our skills players can do if they had a WR get doubled constantly….come on fellas

Yeah right bring in a guy who gets his feelings hurt by the coach. Ocho is a vag write it down!

He is lucky he never played for Bill Parcells or in the Dick Butkus era, crying about how Marvin Lewis hurt his feelings what a sissy, he belongs in womens basketball not the NFL

    NO OCHO!!!!
    *************************************

Well he at one time was real close to Marvin Lewis. Some ofthese cats grew up with no Dad around so take that into account. Sissy? No way. Chad takes shot and doesnt ever punk out on the field. He is levels above any WR we have on this roster or have been on this team in years…FACT

    4) Retire. And don’t ever be seen again.

there will not be a high profile WR signing before the season imo. santana moss is the only one that makes sense to be pluggable but mostly to mentor and be a vet presence. we still have a 1st rounder starting. not gonna change unless there is someone without a team and we are making a playoff push and dhb or someone isn’t working. much like the ravens did with housh.

    ET,

I think the Raiders may have a shot at Ponder, Mallett or Dalton in Round 2

They may have a shot at Kaepernick, Stanzi or Taylor in Round 3, too.

Doesn’t mean Al Davis will draft the guy!

There won’t be more than 5 QB’s drafted in the Top 50 picks. Print That. Fax it to Raiders HQ

  196. RaiderRetribution Says:

would be exstatic should the raiders get Kaepernick at #81, no way in hell he lasts that long.

  197. RaiderRetribution Says:

Owners will be able to hold out even longer, players will just start getting bumped off by their loved ones, their peers, their friends; another NFL player just got stabbed, Hunter of the Broncos.

  198. RaiderRockstar Says:

I see 9 OL & 6 CB’s off the board when Oakland is on the clock …

    3 or 4 QB’s
    4 or 5 WR’s

    what to do ???

    Retribution,

did anybody see Brady Quinn or Jimmy Clausen dropping as far as they did?

… and those guys were 2nd or 3rd best QB’s going into the draft, not 6th or 7th best!

  200. RaiderRetribution Says:

I see Wisniewski falling right into our laps at #48.

  201. irjonny Says:

wis can be had later i think. if wis is out our guy then trade back

  202. RaiderRetribution Says:

RockieRaider, that Aaron Rogers fell and led his team to a Superbowl Championship outweighs Quinn & Clausen falling.

I think the QBs fall but will all go in the late 1st early second round.

Way too many teams need a QB, Kevin Kolb can only play for one team.

  203. RaiderRetribution Says:

joni i agree, we should trade back if Wiz2 and a couple others on our board, a.k.a, Kaepernick, Little, Harris, Wilson, are still available.

  204. RaiderRockstar Says:

Chris Simms, Josh McCown, Matt Schaub, Charlie Frye, Andrew Walter, Charlie Whitehurst, Brodie Croyle, Trent Edwards, Kevin O’Connell & Colt McCoy were all recent 3rd round QB’s selected.

compare their college careers to a guy like Kaepernick …

Retribution, he could be there at #81

  205. DKnight007 Says:

I would love to see Raiders take Marcus Cannon in Round 5. if he falls that far due to his diagnosis. Raiders need to check with his doctors to see how serious his condition really is.

He would still be a bargain in Round 5.

  206. RaiderRetribution Says:

if players are able to be traded during the draft I see Mr. Murphy and/or Mr. Howard being traded.

  207. DKnight007 Says:

Weird rumors going around now that the Titans like Dalton perhaps with their 1st pick and the Fins may consider Kap with their #15 pick?

Weird….if true, teams who need QB’s are desperate and don’t think some of those QB’s will be there in Roudn 2 for them to pick.

Rodgers had 3 full years on the bench behind future Hall-of-Fame QB Brett Favre

11x Pro Bowler & Super Bowl Champ

He’s also had the luxury of Mike McCarthy as HC since 2006 when he was drafted in 2005.

If AR was drafted by Oakland, he’d probably be out of the league like Andrew Walter!

that was kind of a unique situation and that Packers Defense under Capers is TOUGH

  209. Gust372 Says:

Teams will fear having to play at the Overstock!

  210. Mistic1 Tha Supavillain Says:

Ill say it again drafting a qb in this draft makes no sense for the raiders. Unless your talking about taking a sniff at a 7th rd, or ufa.

The team is 8-8 and was an o-line short of the playoffs. With so many quality o-line players in the draft we have some flexibility with where we draft for the line. The secondary and Oline will be where this draft is focused.

Qb is not a need at all, and this is an extremely thin class. Your 2nd and 3rd rounder need to come in and play, not sit for a year or two like any project qb you would have to make a major reach to draft. Out side of newton & possibly kappy & gabbert, the rest of the qb class is extremely flawed, & the drop off is so severe that it isnt worth wasting a pick.

By the way locker and mallet are terrible. So lets fix the o-line beef up the secondary & maybe look at luxury picks (qb) late in the draft, meaning 6th round or later

  211. noteasilyimpressed Says:

Stop compairing JaMarcus to Newton…it just sounds pretty ignorant!

Debo is a mindless dolt that cant comprehend a simple overhead projector joke. I gave up on that tard a few posts a go.

Now back to the O-Line debate. My thought is that you want your first pick to be able to contribute right away and since we do not have a 1st round pick I think our second round pick has to be treated as a first rounder and be someone that can contribute right away.

    @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

Tard???? Kind of tacky, don’t ya think? I believe the proper term is “mentally challenged”. And what an original take about picking a guy that can “contribute right away”. Where’d you get that, Mayock or McShay? Can’t you do better than that sheep?

  214. irjonny Says:

here’s what i think we should ultimately do, and i think it’s very very plausible:

    trade 2012 1st rounder + 2011 3rd rounder (48) to new england

    receive new englands 2011 1st rounder (28) + 2011 2nd rounder (60)

(new england holds the 17th and 33rd overall as well)

*depending on how players go off the board
pick (28) OT Derrek Sherrod/OT Gabe Carimi*
    pick (48) QB Colin Kaepernick
pick (60) OG Stefan Wisneiski/OT James Carpenter*
    pick (81) S/CB Marcus Gilchrest/S/CB Chimdi Chekwa*
    pick (113) TE Jordan Cameron

    that’s my wish list

  215. Silverandblack666 Says:

Sorry to ruffle your feather DeBLOW but as I now see its pretty easy to do.

If you could read you might have been able to comprehend that I was responding to an earlier post….now the tard reference seems accurate.

I cant remember a blogger on this site ever being concerned about being “PC” But hey I guess it was all your feeble mind could come up with.

Do you still need help figuring out the overhead projector reference or did you ask your special ED counselor to explain it to you?

  220. Harder2000 Says:

In general the idea of a trade is good imo! Not sure what value the 2012 picks have though, and there might be a run for the Pat pick which could inflate the price.. But if we could get a trade with our 2012 1st and a trade of 2nd it would be a good thing imo! Like the picks as well! Except i would prefer Franklin over Wiz in the 2nd.. Think Wiz is a great player, and a hard worker as well, but on tape he just seems too much like a ZBS guy, having trouble with stronger linemen and powerful bullrushes /Dareus for instance.. Also he lacks a mean streak imo.. But that said, i wouldnt be too upset seeing him come in, he is a high character guy and works his ass off, gotta appreciate that!

  221. Harder2000 Says:

Dont think we could do that trade – our 1st next year has less value than theirs this year because of the uncertainty and some teams wanting up to get a player they have seen fall before the pause.. Would love it if it happened, but dont think its possible.. Maybe we could get their 1st for our 1st in 12 and a third, but a 2nd on top seems too much imo.. ?

  222. Harder2000 Says:

But list looks good though! Help at Oline, TE as well and a project QB.. Dont think Kape will be there though, rumors have him mid-late 1st now, perhaps to Mia at 15, but in that case one of the top DBs might make sense..
