Jackson: Wisniewski is the center
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Friday, April 29th, 2011 at 4:55 pm in Oakland Raiders.
Hue Jackson said flatly that Stefen Wisniewski is the center of the Raiders.
Sounds like Wisniewski won’t be playing guard. Also sounds like Samson Satele is a backup or headed elsehwere. With Satele entering some form of free agency, Jackson couldn’t discuss Satele’s status.
Jackson said he went of his way to avoid talking to Steve Wisniewski about Stefan to form his own judgement and made it point to say it was about Stefan, not about his uncle.
Wisniewski’s pick is similar to that of last year’s selection of Rolando McClain. The Raiders have placed a smart, tough player who a taste for film and football in the middle of their offense.

The Raiders dearly needed a OG/C. His Uncle is the O-line Coach & HOF’r.
They will develop WIZ 2.0. He can challenge right away for a starter job/ or provide quality depth immediately.

I thought satelle was one of the better players on the line for us last year. Surprised Wiz is targetted as a C. Then again, we’re all ametuers as someone said.
April 29th, 2011 at 4:58 pm
I guess we have our center. make him hit the weights a bit.

56 look out…maybe a trade?
April 29th, 2011 at 5:00 pm
Wisniewski is not strong at the POA, we just re drafted the center that we already have….I’d rather have Satele at center and Ijalana at guard.
April 29th, 2011 at 5:01 pm
Yay! Good pick Al…
Welcome to the Dark side. Wizzer a Raider!

Satele and Carlisle we on skates so much last year, it wasn’t even funny.
We have a 6′3 313lb C that was trained by JoPa!
April 29th, 2011 at 5:02 pm
I’d take a chance on Mallet now..
April 29th, 2011 at 5:02 pm
Thec,
If we we get a DT and FB outta this draft, then it indeed will be like last year.
On paper at least, lol.
April 29th, 2011 at 5:02 pm
are line is not that why replace one of your best lineman when you need a right guard?
April 29th, 2011 at 5:03 pm
Pats having a good draft.
April 29th, 2011 at 5:03 pm
The true need along the offensive line is at RT. But watch for the Raiders to wait for Chris Hairston or Byron Bell in the 4th or 5th.

April 29th, 2011 at 5:05 pm
Baby Wiz bulked up to 313lbs so that can only help him. He was valued as a 2nd rnd pick and that’s where we got him. He’s definitely not a reach, but you’ll always have naysayers. I’m just glad we’re addressing needs instead of speed.

Or Al’s other boy Mario Henderson?
And are you really sure that Al doesn’t like BIG Langston?
April 29th, 2011 at 5:05 pm
The only reason Satele lasted at C last year was we had no other option. That was obvious when we tried to replace him in the 1st game with someone who never even practiced at the position.

I’m not buying that “true run stuffer” propoganda.
What we need is a healthy body.
Henderson and Seymour’s age showed last year, and I’m not a big fan of moving Houston to DT.
April 29th, 2011 at 5:07 pm
I got a feeling we might be getting Taiwan.

Wow.

Well is there any chance that means Campbell to RT and Carlisle doesn’t get cut?
April 29th, 2011 at 5:09 pm
Look for Curtis Brown or Davon House in the third… I’d like to see Boling, but I have a feeling Rod Woodson gets a new toy today.
April 29th, 2011 at 5:10 pm
I’m hoping the Raiders at least give Campbell a shot at RT. What do they have to lose? It’s not like he already made tremendous progress at RG.

April 29th, 2011 at 5:13 pm
That’s kind of suprising that Hue flat out says that the new Wiz is going to be center-especially since Satele improved at the end of the year.
Jackson’s right in that Satele just isn’t that good but there’s a lot of disruption already with Gallery leaving and Gallery was helping out Veldheer quite a bit.

Im not a know it all apparently i just know more than you…the only person that was happy about the pick was Gruden because he loved Wiz 1 and liked the legacy aspect of it. These fools liked the Russell pick too.
Satele was our best OL the second half of last year and instead of getting help when we need it desperately at OG, we reach on a guy that will start over an already solid player. We have a glaring hole at RG and LG, so instead of addressing that we take a C. You guys dont see anything wrong with that???

You hedge your bets with numbers. Chances are out of McFadden and Ware, one of them won’t work out. Maybe both. You get players to compete and sort it out.

The only reason they got Kapernicky is because we didn’t want him. If Al REALLY wanted him, he would’ve traded up to the 1st pick in the draft.
As fast as the Wiz pick got in there, and the CLEAR dislike Al/Hue had for Satele, seems to me Wiz was the pick all along.

//////////////////////////////////////////////////
Satele has never played G and there is no indication that he will be able to do it now. He was our most consistent OL the second half of the season and the best by far the last 4 games. He is being replaced primarily because he is more compatible for the ZBS though he could certainly function in the stystem that we run as he displayed last year/ Most “experts” acknowledge how well he played down the stretch and Jerry has said it several times himself.
Nothing i said about Wiz II was ridiculous. He is not particularly strong at the POA, not quite nimble and has average balance. He has short arms and was pushed around by some of the bigger DL he faced. That being said, he knows how to play the game, has good technique, understands angles, has a non stop motor and is very aggressive. Not a great athelete but gets by with above average football IQ, a great motor and will….classic overachiever
