Not so fast on `back to work’ euphoria
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Friday, April 29th, 2011 at 11:49 am in Oakland Raiders.
If the NFL was granted an “administrative stay” which would resume the lockout against the players, it was news to Raiders tight end Brandon Myers.
“I have not heard anything,” Myers said as he drove from the Raiders’ restricted access parking lot Friday less than an hour after he arrived.
A Yahoo Sports! story by Mike Silver reported players were preparing for a ruling which grant owners a temporary stay against U.S. District Court Judge Susan Nelson’s injunction against the lockout.
The NFL still has not announced transation guidelines as was expected, perhaps preferring to wait until the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled on an appeal.
During his brief visit to the facility, Myers said he was optimistic.
“I think they said they had 30 guys coming in for sure right now, so that’s a good sign,” Myers said.
Myers said playbooks had not been issued and that they were expected Monday.
He said there have been some small, informal workouts but nothing that has been organized with several members of the team at the same time.
Perhaps reacting to an ESPN report that has since been retracted regarding the temporary stay, Raiders safety Michael Huff said in his Twitter account, “Lockout back on . . . let’s keep the vacation goin!”
Guard Daniel Loper was first to the facility but left without talking to the media.
Perhaps tellingly with regard to a temporary stay, a Raiders player believed to be Rolando McClain arrived at the security gate and then turned around without actually entering the parking lot after talking with a team employee.

Despite Reports, NFL Lockout Not Reinstated…..Yet
by Joel Thorman
The NFL lockout has not been reinstated — yet.
ESPN reported on Friday afternoon that the NFL had been granted a temporary stay and the NFL lockout would be reinstated, perhaps just through the weekend.
Now ESPN is taking it back and saying no decision has been made. It’s still possible, though, that we see the lockout reinstated. Mike Silver of Yahoo! Sports said on Friday afternoon that the players were bracing for a ruling that would put a temporary stay on the lockout.
According to a second source familiar with the ongoing legal maneuverings, members of the decertified NFL Players Association’s executive committee received an email Friday from people involved with the plaintiff’s side of the Brady et al antitrust lawsuit informing them that the Eighth Circuit would be making an announcement shortly. The announcement, the lawyers for the players concluded, would likely be a temporary administrative stay of Nelson’s injunction.
So the NFL lockout hasn’t been reinstated — yet. Per Silver’s report, it could be coming, though.

This is what I was afraid of. Not enough player ownership in that Cultish organization to motivate the players to workout together.

THIS IS AWESOME!!!!! There is quality all over the board, especially in the positions we really need. Hu Jack may take players to execute his new vision. A power O-line would be good but you could argue that there will be quality there when our next pick comes as well. Im dying to see what he has up his sleeve. I want to know if Hu Jack and the wiz are better talent evaluators and coaches than Cable.
The defense is also in good hands. I cant wait to know what direction we go in defense. We have some young talent on all 3 levels of the defense. This gives a great deal of flexibility on this side of the ball in this draft. Although personaly I beleieve a db is the biggest need on this side of the ball. Also adding beikert and woodson intrigues me. Now you have 2 guys that played for chuck b, coaching under chuck b. This I believe will carry a lot of weight in the war room. Along with having wauffle back this makes a room full of experts on our unique defense.
Al suanders and Hu jack are qb gurus. Im not sure that they buy into this qb class. I do trust their opinion so let me say i will support whatever the decide. My own opinion, Im not sold on any of the quarterbacks that have been drafted after Newton. I think some of the left overs can be picked up later, as there isnt much difference between the 5th best qb, and the 15th best qb.
Bonus question, can goehtel play in space? Howard is good in pass coverage, horrible against the run. Goethel is a middle lb, now switching position, this is also an area of need with good talent available. However again we can draft here in later rounds I believe.
Who knows, but there is something really exciting watching the new regime put together their new team.

a nice comeback i found by a raider fan on nfl.com who was being harrased by everyone else on the blog
——————————-
The hatred reciprocated back to the Raiders is because of pure domination in football for many decades since the start of the AFL. Lions don’t get any haters because they’ve been irrelevant for so long. Raiders were in the superbowl within the last 10 years. A mere 8 years of futility compared to about 45 years of punking teams left and right and making them look silly is nothing to us but hurts non- raider fans so much because the Patriots were stepped on on our way to Super bowl 11 victory. Raiders erased the chargers franchise until their relevance in 2003. Raiders took what continues to elude the Eagles in their superbowl 15 victory. Even in a .500 season haters have to hate because the Raiders are coming back which causes them to remember the hits and the dominance apart of Raider lore.

The owners have pushed themselves into a corner.
They’re in the incredibly awkward position of trying to get a federal appeals court to overrule another federal appeals court and to require players to unionize.
At the same time they’re in the incredibly awkward position of being required to negotiate with the players under the supervision of a judge who reports to another judge who has already ruled against them strongly — meaning any stalling in negotiating with a union they’re trying to force the players to form will end up hurting them in court.
At the same time they’re trying to avoid antitrust measures when dealing with a group of players who aren’t unionized, when the reason for the lack of a union is that the league threw out the previous agreement with the union.
At the same time they’re deprived of $4 billion they were counting on in TV money, some or all of which may be given by a court to the players whom they were trying to defeat in negotiations by stalling until the players needed money.
Each one of those things is a long shot, and collectively it’s an unwinnable situation for the league.
The way out for the league is to reach a satisfactory CBA with the union and get some or all of those matters out of court. The league will have to give up more than they want to, or proceed down the court path to more dire situations.
If the league proposed the 2010 agreement as a new CBA, I don’t think much would have to be changed of it to satisfy both sides. But right now the league will have to give in on more things than they would have had to give in on a month or 2 ago.

Here is what they are fighting over:
Last year’s earnings:
$9 billion total
$4.2 billion to owners ($1 billion plus 40% of the remaining $8 billion)
$4.8 billion to players (60% of the $8 billion)
_________
Can’t believe that they can’t work this out. With that much money on the table.
