Ausberry closes it out in seventh

The Raiders’ final choice is USC wide receiver David Ausberry, who at 6-foot-3, 241 pounds will probably be looked at as a tight end or fullback.

A wide receiver compared to Mike Williams who was moved to tight end as a senior, had 64 catches for 700 yards and seven touchdowns for his career.

Gordon sounds like Todd Christensen from the early Eighties, and with the O-line picks, I see where AD is going with this. Gonna be a better year, gents!

Chris no faith in the guy who was 7-5 as starter? Gannon was 6-6 thru his first 12 starts. Grad sucks chris. Never won back to back games in his career and wasnt accurate. He was nothing near a starter

    —————————————-

Campbell was along for the ride in most of those wins. I think he played a significant role in maybe 1 or 2. The rest were completely won by the D and/or running game. So that means nothing to me. What about games where the offense was going absolutely nowhere under Campbell and as soon as Grads came in things started to happen and the chains started moving. Let’s face it: Campbell is garbage. He’s not the answer. There’s a reason we got him for a 4th round draft pick two years out. There’s a reason he was benched twice for poor performance and only got his job back due to injury to Grads. I hope I’m wrong, but I think it’s just blind hope to think that Campbell is taking this team anywhere.

Raiders selected Eastern Washington RB Taiwan Jones with the No. 125 overall pick in the 2011 NFL draft.
Joining Demarcus Van Dyke and Chimdi Chekwa as speed demons the Raiders have been honing in on since round three, Jones ran a forty time in the 4.32-4.35 range at his April 14 Pro Day despite claiming to be only “85 percent” after postseason foot surgery. Jones’ injury history is too extensive for this space, and he fumbled a whopping 17 times in his final two seasons at Eastern Washington. Speed like his is difficult to find, however, and that’s why he’s going early on day three. He’s got a bit of Jamaal Charles to him at 6’1/196, and will settle in as a return specialist/possible passing-down back in Oakland.

Let’s put Haynesworth through a fitness test: We’ll have a race between him and JaWalrus to see who can make it from Alameda Stadium to the In-N-Out. Whoever doesn’t die of heart attack (or pass out from too much Purple Drank) can at least get an endorsement deal!

The FB hynoski is still available too

I told you guys before the draft Ian Williams might go undrafted he’s just not that good if he did get drafted I bet it was 6th or 7th rnd, the guy is damn near a stiff…………..period

    Did Tyron Taylor get drafted?

  • JB

    Houston, Haynesworth, Seymour, Shonasty

That would be an extremely mean & effective front 4.

Vince Young?! Vince Young?! You gotta be f-ing me! There is a reason why he is being let go in Tennessee (just as Matty L. was let go from the Cardinals). Can’t lead a team — we don’t need him; we don’t want him! I’d rather pull the trigger and lure away Matt Flynn away from his backup role with the Packers, or bring an undrafted QB to compete. Jason may not be the long-term solution at QB, but once we got all the bugs worked out, we did okay.

    ———————–

I’d rather take my chances with a supremely talented guy who’s had success in this league but with some discipline issues and hope he snaps out of it than ride with a bunch of stiffs (Campbell, Boller, Frye) and hope that they aren’t stiffs anymore.

  • Thec07

Ausberry is a good WR with good hands. I like him as a WR minus some of the lbs he put on. Although he is a 7th rounder comes with lots of upside…

On a sadder note, look forward to us being in the 20′s at stopping the run…BTW Powe went to the chefs….

  • Guy

Tyrod Taylor was drafted by the ravens right before Gordon

  • YoungAmerican

Whoever gets Ian Williams is going to get a guy who makes a lot of tackles in the middle.

  • Thec07

Taylor went 6th round to the ravens.

  • Lowdown_in_Beijing

We should have taken Williams as opposed to one of those WR’s….

    5 Star draft.

    Kudos to Coach.

We were 29th last year Half assed draft gets a half assed grade

    C- and thats pushing it….

  • Demon Raider

I was disappointed we drafted two wide outs. I would have liked to have gotten OLB Chris Carter in the 5th instead of Moore. Was pissed by boy TJ Yates went to the Texans in the 5th. I think we should have gone with McElroy in the 6th instead of the TE seeing as to how we got the big wide out in the 7th… I think QB Pat Devlin is a UDFA.

  • Demon Raider

    I also wanted either a NT or a OG…..

  • David

Free agency! Don’t forget. Those defensive needs will be addressed.

I can’t believe they don’t see the glaring need to stop the run. They have to have a plan.

Bauce – you are spot on! It’s easy to cheer on a guy who is a folk hero on the bench (but made of glass on the field). When he came into the games, he had nothing to lose – except for his health, of course! I always liked Grads for his big heart — but that was about it. I like Jason – I think he’ll be even better in year two (especially with an improved O-line). I’d be shaky too if I had Carlisle and Satele watching my back!

  • Harder2000

@Thec07, yeah, sucks that KC got Powe! They had a great draft this year, really improved their D!

I haven’t notice much of Ausberry earlier, but the highlight reel posted by Beast at #21 is all bodycatches – does he have good hands and catches away from his body normally?

  • Thec07

Watch some tape of Denarius Moore. This guy will be a stud for us. He is big time. I’m serious. I’ve watched him for four years and he made d- grade Tenn. qb’s look almost decent and still managed to rank second in the nation in yards per catch.

    He was a steal.

    +++++++++++++++

He does however i dodnt like him as much with the weight, and I am a USC fan….Stanley Havili would have been a better pick up fullback that can catch and block…

  • Demon Raider

Not sure drafting two DBs was the right move either. Maybe should have gone Taiwan Jones with the earlier 4th and got Ricky Stanzi, maybe, with the later 4th.

  • zopi

    NFL Drafts are crapshoots.
Just like years past might as well get a 6th round gem an 1st round bust in the same year.
No telling and it’s ludicrous to grade anything, unless you’re some kind of fortune teller. Noone knows.
In particular, Cam Newton could be another rerun of Vince Young and Mallet the next super hero.
But I like the Wiz II choice, had it all the way since last year. I’m glad the Raiders keep the family thing going, plus huge props to Stefan from Jim Otto, could it get any better than that?
Al Davis loves speed demons, no surprise, that’s his legacy. However, the Raider front seven is solid enough to potentially make these speed demon dbacks monsters.
One can only hope. I’m not dwelling on the Asomugha departure, he wants it that way. Of course, if he and Huff stay, the sky is the limit with the plethora of dbacks on board.

  • Thec07

Havili was a steal in the 7th round and will be an asset to Vick eagles got him for a subway sandwich…

  • supapimp

USC LB michael morgan wasn’t drafted, maybe al will sign him as a FA. lets just hope that evrybody drafted will make the team.

  • Harder2000

Too bad we didn’t get him then, lets hope for some good UDFA’s, plenty of talent to be found still! .. And in regular FA as well!

  • http://Raiders4Ever.com 860Todd Christensen

Kids, the old o-line hans’t got it done in 4 years, every QB except J-purple has had serious injury, plays don’t last long enough to play out, this draft takes on those problems and also will stretch the field. Take a minute and think this through, not act on emotion, I think you may agree, and let Hue get this team on the same page……
