Camp Seymour notes

Some highlights from correspondent Ben Beitzel at the Raiders’ passing camp at Competitive Edge Sports in Duluth, Ga.:

– A hand count came up with 34 players at the workout including at least three members of the rookie draft class _ center Stefen Wisniewski, cornerback DeMarcus Van Dyke and tight end Richard Gordon participated in workouts of moderate intensity.

– Bruce Campbell, a right guard last year, continued to play on the right side during 7-on-7 drills.

Beitzel is filing a story to run in Wednesday’s Bay Area News Group papers and will pass along more info that I’ll relay a little later . . .

    I am really not making a comparison of one young black talented athlete to the next. I am simply comparing one young talented QB to the next. When I read what Josh is doing down in Tampa I can’t help thinking that I am reading the flip side of what Russell could have done with the Raiders in Oakland as a young QB.

    It is like a Wonderful World if you would change just one thing in your life and you could see how it would turn out, You know?

    What a wasted opportunity.

    Bauce nice idea down the road a season or two. The rookies are not ready for that island yet. History has shown that it takes rookies time to develop in our system. Outside of Charles Woodson, which they are not both of them would get killed on the corners.

    CJ is going to have to learn how to ankle tackle those RBs on screens and use his hands to fight through the defense to the ball carrier.

    I see McFadden playing that free safety spot starting out then switching over to corner. We usually work the rookies in to that third DB spot.

    Bauce,

    Not sure how he will do against RB’s on a consistent basis but he absolutely blows up WR screens. I even saw Deion on nfl network commenting how CJ needs to back off and take better care of his body. I would to have CJ be switched over to FS and let the young kids dude it out for the #2 corner. Heck, we put a lot of our draft into mcFadden and DVD. One of them should start.

    ____________________________________________________

    @AIG
    Sounds like a plan, type it up and send it to Al. Actually could you get into a overhead/PPT presentation; somthing that could be thrown on a overhead? If anybody could help CJ become a FS it is Rod Woodson. Turn CJ into a ball hawk!

    Kinda scary that DVD only throw up 225 three times.

    If they’re working out to compete with other players, as you said, then yes, they’re scabs. How can a union win when its members are in a competitive mindset, with each other? You said yourself Seymour and Campbell need to get in shape for the AFC West. The AFC West isn’t their enemy right now. The owners are. This is bigger than football. And they know that. They too were once rookies. They too will need health care when they retire.

    Brien, try to absorb this with your small Aryan brain

    The players are working out, as you noted, to prepare for their division rivals. The owners can see this. They’re effectively trying to divide the players right now. That’s one of their many strategies. So as long as the players are working out, to compete with players on opposing teams, or even some on their own team where depth chart spots are concerned, the owners can see an avenue for manipulation. They shouldn’t be working out at all. They should all be camped out at the gates, in unison, doing absolutely nothing football related until the gates are unlocked again by these unreasonable owners. If all players on all teams are not working out, then there’s no pressure on players to work out. The players should be doing everything they can to work in unison, and avoiding everything they can that’s divisive. It’s just that Campbell and Seymore are a couple of dumb meat heads who can’t wrap their brains around that. I frankly blame D Smith for losing control. I had a lot of faith in him at first. He’s a smart guy. But he’s got to get control of his rank and file.
