Camp Seymour notes

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Tuesday, May 24th, 2011 at 11:28 am in Oakland Raiders.

Some highlights from correspondent Ben Beitzel at the Raiders’ passing camp at Competitive Edge Sports in Duluth, Ga.:

– A hand count came up with 34 players at the workout including at least three members of the rookie draft class _ center Stefen Wisniewski, cornerback DeMarcus Van Dyke and tight end Richard Gordon participated in workouts of moderate intensity.

– Bruce Campbell, a right guard last year, continued to play on the right side during 7-on-7 drills.

Beitzel is filing a story to run in Wednesday’s Bay Area News Group papers and will pass along more info that I’ll relay a little later . . .

  • Bauce Rules

WE know Nnamdi was hurt but any QB who has that amount of time will beat any CB. Nnamdi cant guard people for 5 seconds lol….no one can

  • J Hill

    OKC lost last night????

    LOL!

I turned it off late in the 4th when they were up 10.

  • J Hill

With Wisniewski as center and Bruce Campbell working in at right tackle,

    ——————————————————

    Bruce Campbell at RT?

    Who plays RG?

A Vet free agent….get Duece Lutui. yep the big LA hater Bauce wants the USC dude. He is perfect for power scheme at 6’4 338

  • J Hill

the Raider defenses lately generally suck on 3rd and long regardless of DC.

    ——————————————————-

That may be true, but to continually get beat the same way was pretty sad. I mean, why not bring a LB or 2 instead of both the Ss? an occasional corner blitz, or maybe just a base 4 man rush?

Gardowski was pretty sad that day too, but Marshall was worse, imo.

  • J Hill

Well if we sign Luti, then where does Barksdale play?

I see the starting LT for LSU being able to transition to our Oline with no problem.

Let me give ya some game OG…….Marshall is a stinking 49er loser and we dont need those bastards infecting us from the gate. Al is my dawg but I hate when he gets those losers over here

Grad was the worse. Miam runs a 3-4 defense and didnt blitz really lol. They dared an NFL Qb of backup material to do it all day long. They played for the run and wasnt scared of his arm. I’m fully convinced JC wins that game.

  • J Hill

Barksdale should be able to transition into the LG spot, I guess.

2nd year player Veldheer at LT, Wiz at C, and essentially a rookie RT in Campbell.

Going to be interesting to see how the OG spots shake out. Pretty sure Loper is starting if you consider how much we paid him and how quickly we signed him.

Barksdale, Veldheer and Bruce compete for two spots. Loser of competition is backup.

Singing Lututi will show we are a serious team about dominating up front. Young dude with deep postseason playoff experience. That can help tremendously Wiz and RT winner

  • Bauce Rules

Loper is insurance Jhill. That is all. They do not plan to head to regular season with him. No way are they set on that guy. You think Al wouldnt get Logan Mankins if he could?

  • Bauce Rules

    Veldheer Mankins Wiz Lutui Barksdale

That is a great upgrade and would protect JC and open up holes for our talented RBs

  • J Hill

Loper certainly isn’t being paid like insurance.

  • severeraiderz

im going on record to say that i think Walter McFadden will be a very good corner in this league…..

  • J Hill

I can’t see Al paying Mankins that kinda $. To an OG??? Just can’t see it.

Raiders will bring in a undrafted or FA LG to challenge Loper, Barksdale and Campbell.

  • noteasilyimpressed

Correction:Raiders will bring in a undrafted or FA LG to challenge Loper. Barksdale and Campbell will also be challenged by FA and rookie FA’s.

It seems strange that, after the Raiders best year in years, #2 Rushing Team, High Scoring Team, that they would be re-building their O-line at this point.

It seems strange that, after the Raiders best year in years, #2 Rushing Team, High Scoring Team, that they would be re-building their O-line at this point.

Raiders know that they’ll be playing much better teams in 2011.

  • J Hill

In the Miami game, the Oline was simply not able to get ANYTHING done. The right side of the the OL was especially horrible and played on the wrond side of the LOS for most of the day.

I can clearly see why we will have new starters on the OL. Couple in the FA factor with Gallery and Satele, and there you have it.

  • priesttj

It has zero to do with WHO they’re playing it’s about WHO they want to be. They want to be very physical up front and bruise defenses with that Oline. Not to mention have some degree of excellence in protecting the QB.

This was Cable’s charge when he excepted the job, fix the Oline make it dominant. He never made them even……good at passpro. They were average at best, the owner wants them to be dominant…………..period

  • http://www.pro-football-reference.com/ KoolKell

So Al Davis’ move to the ZBS was a complete failure?

  • noteasilyimpressed

They got over with a patchwork OL playing a middle-of-the road schedule in 2010. That will not work again this season because of the stronger schedule this season. Raiders knew this and drafted the OL this draft year accordingly.

  • http://www.pro-football-reference.com/ KoolKell

I wonder why Davis went ZBS in the first place.

  • noteasilyimpressed

I think Cable somehow talked him into it (or maybe Cable and/or Kiffin).

West Coast Offense one year, ZBS the next.

why are we even talking about that p.o.s. tom cable?

35player turnout? …thats a pretty big turnout ..i wonder if any other teams had a larger turnout ..considering the circumstances (cross country) thats pretty good.

  • TerrapinRaider

3yrs and couldnt even get the Oline right …why continue to waste your time with that toad

  • Midwest Fan

I’m not convinced that Eugene’s contract means that Huff is gone. Until we see his contract, could basically be a 1 year deal etc…

That’s what I’m hoping anyway. Think Huff has finally matured in our system and it would be hard to see him go and be a perineal probowler elsewhere.

  • TerrapinRaider

When you get a turnout like that, that is when you know you have some good leaders on your ball club.

  • TerrapinRaider

Big Sey has done wonders for this ballclub …his leadership is just something that you dont find many places.

Just wondering why the Raiders went ZBS in the first place, and now, after an 8-8 season it has to be rebuilt.

  • TerrapinRaider

They went with ZBS under Kiffy because thats what he ran at USC. Al gave that kid a lot of rope and he promptly hung himself with it. That’s just how/why it happened.

They started to move away from pure ZBS under Hue and imo played better football. Mixed it up. And Hue’s playcalling helped the line. Tom Cable should have never been allowed to call plays he was so bad.

  • TerrapinRaider

Read the report about the camp. Campbell took every snap from Wiz at center. Looks like somebody is looking to start opening day.

  • TerrapinRaider

And the pics of Sey …i’m not sure if those were specifcally chosen to show him in some sort of imagery but Big Sey is BIG!

Exactly, the wish-washy management, has mastered nothing.
