Raiders `certainly’ in mix for L.A. relocation

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Friday, June 10th, 2011 at 7:56 am in Oakland Raiders.

The Orange County Register reports that Anschutz Entertainment Group president Tim Leiweke has listed the Raiders as “certainly” in the running for a move to Los Angeles.

Here’s the quote from Leiweke: “St. Louis, Jacksonville, not extensively, certainly Oakland, San Diego, Minnesota are still in the mix. We’re not packing any moving vans right now.”

Billionaire Phillip Anschutz would like to purchase a majority interest in an NFL team and bring it to a downtown stadium in Los Angeles.

Raiders owner Al Davis has given no indications he is willing to sell a majority interest at this point, although the team is struggling financially in comparison to most teams in the NFL in part because of a low season ticket base (approximately 23,000 last year) and one of the older stadiums in the NFL.

CEO Amy Trask has publicly expressed the club’s desire for a new stadium on the current site.

Too bad Kobe has a no-trade clause.

EFF Lebron Lames…. Kobe is the ISH!!!

Ain’t no comparison to what Kobe has done…he’s been doing his thing since ‘96…has won 5 Championships, 2 MVP Finals, NBA MVP, 81 point game…I mean…I could go on and on and on and on!

LEBRON IS NOT AND IS NEVER GONNA BE KING!

    GO LAKERS!!

To his credit, he is a two time NBA MVP but come on now…he WAS the Cleveland Cavaliers…
LBJ is not clutch like Magic was, MJ was, Kobe was….they took over when it was needed…LBJ hasn’t done that yet…and like I told a friend last Summer when he was trying to argue with me about LeBron…if Miami does NOT win it all…proves what LBJ is worth….however, he is still 26…but by the time Kobe was 26, he already won 3…

  • hwnrdr

    Kobe ain’t leaving LA…

  • RAIDERMAN99

Does any guard in the NBA hold his dribble longer than Barrea ? Guy puts the ball on the floor forever and won’t stop dribbling around til he finds something he can exploit.

Kind of comical to see that little runt going to the hole for his teardrop or a layup after dribbling around for 15 seconds.

Also, I realize JaJason Kidd is 3rd on the all-time 3 pointer list, but he’s definitely not a pure shooter. Have to give Kidd credit for what has to have been hours upon hours of practice to refine his long range marksmanship. Watching JaJason continuously clank long range jumpers early in his career, one would be hard pressed to imagine he’d eventually become one of the most prolific 3 pt makers in NBA history.

Testament to hard work and longevity.

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++

I love what Kobe has done for the Lakers, but in compairing LeBron, Kobe and MJ I would say if they were all 20 years old and coming into the NBA I would draft MJ first, Kobe second and LeBron third.

But in reality I would trade Kobe for LeBron tomorrow if the Heat would go for it….simply because of their age differences.

  • aig-raiders

I thought Beasley was a head case though. Something tells me it wasnt Riley’s idea to bring Bosh down there. I have a hunch Wade and LBJ thought it was a great idea. Now they got a bunch of jump shooters and slashers. They dont have anyone that can post up or rough up for them. I thought you needed a good post player if you want to run a half court offense.

These guys aint the 2006 Heat. That team had Zo to play dirty in the post for them.

  • http://www.cnn.com RAIDER

lol. Perhaps the biggest Raider story since 2002, and you guys are still arguing over 3rd string players and the NBA finals.

  • Dakota

    AIG,

Alonzo could probably suit up Sunday and give the Heat more help inside than any of their current post players.

  • HairyBush

It’s the Only Argument I Need, Shawn! LOL

  • http://build-a-bully 909RaiderLifer

On the sports talk radio here in SO-CAL, the reaction about the NFL teams AIG has talked to about moving to LA, can be summed up this way:

“Whatever, dude. When is Kobe going to speak on the record about the hiring of Mike Brown? And who would you trade to the W’s to get Ellis?”

For the most part everyone is pretty jaded about any “talk” of a team coming to the LA area. They’ll come around when/IF it ever happens…

IMO, the Lambs would probably be the best choice of a team to come here. Especiially since Georgia has passed…

  • hwnrdr

Zo was the man for the Heat for many, many years! i’m glad he got one! But you’re probably right AIG…

If Al Davis is still running the team, I’d prefer they go to L.A. Basically everything you see in the Raiders today, the fans costumes, fighting in the stands, and, of course, the losing, all started in L.A. Basically for the past 15 years we’ve had the L.A. Raiders playing in Oakland. It’s time for them to go home. Let them deal with the embarrassment. Somehow between 1982 and 1994 Raider fans in Oakland survived without the Raiders. The hard cores will even make the trek to L.A. It’s only 6 hours. You leave early enough in the morning you’re there by lunch. I say, go. It’s time. This whole losing Raider culture is an L.A. thing, not an Oakland thing.

  • hwnrdr

    Didn’t Kobe endorse Mike Brown?
Anyways…I’d probably will have to agree with Bauce on this one. LA needs an expansion team, create their own identity. The Raiders are Oaklands!

Also, if it’s true what the naysayers are saying about the American economy, I think in a few years the NFL is going to have no choice but to eliminate a few teams. Obviously the Raiders would be on anyone’s short list of teams to get the ax. They’ve been a drag on the other owners. It’s a no brainer. All of them would vote Al out, first. …You know, as much respect they have for his football knowledge and all that stuff. So, let the Raiders have their last few years in L.A.

  • aig-raiders

Agreed Dakota. Been saying all along how soft this current Heat team is. You Laker fans must be ticked that LA didnt get a chance at the Heat.

    @Hwnrdr,

Kobe wanted Brian Shaw. Mike Brown’s first contact to Kobe was a text msg, which I think is extremely lame from a leadership/mngmnt standpoint. Wonder if Dakota is still in his grieving process.

That’s it, 666. I’m just waiting to see what everyone is saying here, then I’ll chime in with the exact opposite, to create strife. The current topic of this blog is an possible Raider relocation. I chime in with my opinion. I’m such a troll.

They could play in Northern Vermont and do better than that!

While we are talking hoops, is there any player in the league better at using the glass than Dwayne Wade?

Some of these off-balance shots off the glass he is making are amazing.

  • Silverandblack666

    Calm down MR

  • Just Fire Baby

The Raiders aren’t going to LA, and if they do, I highly doubt they will keep the Raiders name, and it will be like the Browns moving to Baltimore and becoming the Ravens.

I always worried that Al would put the Raiders in such a crappy state by the time he dies, that the Raiders fail to exist for a few years like the Browns did, until things can get straightened out.

Meadowlark Lemon…wow…blast from the Globetrotter past!
AIG, I agree…I would have loved to see Lakers/Heat, but…like I said, congrats to Dallas! If they win the series, they deserved it!

    new post!

  • fingers

Without the Raiders the NFL would be like having plain Oatmeal and warm water for dinner… The Raiders will stay in Oakland and in the NFL….this ” The Raiders are moving back to LA ” talk happens about as often as those crazy religious nutcases that say the worlds about to end… Relax …. Raiders Baby!!!… The Oakland Raiders!

  • Corporate_Raider

I would not bring a team to Los Angeles. I would insist on an expansion team. L.A. should have two teams, one AFC and one NFC, both in the West of course. The reason I would not move a team to L.A. is because nearly everyone in L.A. has moved there from somewhere else and if they are football fans I would think you’re loyalties would lie elsewhere. So, by starting two new teams from scratch you avoid all that baggage of people who have come from Wisconsin or Montana or New York. No moved teams just new expansion teams. Plus then you wouldn’t have something stupid like the L.A. Vikings. I’d go with The L.A. Landslides or the L.A. Wildfire.
