Trask: Raiders aren’t for sale
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Friday, June 10th, 2011 at 1:51 pm in Oakland Raiders.
The Raiders’ response to AEG Entertainment’s assertion that they were one of five teams in the running to be purchased and placed in a new downtown Los Angeles stadium was a emphatic no sale.
“The team is not for sale. It will remain with the Davis family,” CEO Amy Trask said in a statement issued through spokesman John Herrera.
The Orange County Register reported that AEG President Tim Leiweke named the Raiders, along with four other teams, as potential franchises which could be bought by billionaire Phillip Anschutz and put in the proposed stadium.
The Raiders extended their current lease at the Coliseum through 2013 in November in 2009 and since then Trask has said the focus has been on getting a stadium built on their current site.

June 10th, 2011 at 1:56 pm
Oh, the Raiders deny it, so it’s not happening. Just like they denied so many of Schefter’s reports, that turned out to be dead true.
June 10th, 2011 at 1:57 pm

June 10th, 2011 at 1:58 pm
It’s common knowledge Al Davis is broke. He has to do something. He has no operating budget. He’s just nickeling and diming to keep what he has now.

Schefter has been wrong more often than right
June 10th, 2011 at 2:00 pm
Told you Jerry. You knew better than that.
Wonder if Colt is recovered from the accident. Thought he was a good project.
June 10th, 2011 at 2:02 pm
Schefter’s almost always right about the Raiders. Remember when the Raiders denied reports of Shell being fired? Remember when they denied there was a rift between Al and Kiffin?
June 10th, 2011 at 2:03 pm
And, now, of course, the Raiders “aren’t for sale”. Of course Al’s title isn’t for sale, but I guarantee you Al would sell 99% of the team at this point if he could, as long as he remains in control. Of course, what investors are going to spend that much on a team they’ll have no control over? He’s lost it!
June 10th, 2011 at 2:07 pm
Jerry really seemed to like Colt Brennan.
What did he call it “an uncanny knack to complete passes” or something like that?
Not sure why Hue brought him in, only to make him hand it off in preseason games.

EnglandRaider, I’m not certain as to the exact language of what a “managing general partner” is, but I’m pretty sure a managing general partner doesn’t even have to own any of the team. The managing general partner has control of all operations, period. No matter what percentage they own. I believe for some time now Al has owned less than 50% of the Raiders.

June 10th, 2011 at 2:26 pm
Mr.
No one has control of any operations unless the owner wants them too.
If you owned the Raiders-let’s say you sold your trailer and made just enough to buy the Raiders-would you let Al run the team as a “managing general partner” when all he had was 1%?

In 1972, while managing general partner Valley was attending the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, Davis drafted a revised partnership agreement that made him the new managing general partner, with near-absolute control over team operations. McGah signed the agreement. Since two of the team’s three general partners had voted in favor of the agreement, it was binding under partnership law of the time. Valley sued to overturn the agreement once he returned to the country, but was unsuccessful. Valley sold his interest in 1976, and no other partners have had any role in running the club since. This was despite the fact that Davis did not acquire a majority interest in the Raiders until 2005, when he bought the shares held by McGah’s family. He now owns approximately 67 percent of the interests in the partnership through his company, A.D. Football, Inc.

Al can maintain 100% operational control no matter what % of the team he owns. He controls it due to his AD FOOTBALL IN. contract he has between Al Davis and the Oakland aiders. It gives him 100% operational control for life irrespective of his % of actual ownership. It’s a lock-tight cover-all type contract. I’m not sure if it continues on after his demise but I suspect it does and passes on to his heir(s) in perpetuity. He gets paid just like every other contractor per the terms of the agreement. I’m sure that’s where he’s making all his $’s. It’s most likely guaranteed money.

June 10th, 2011 at 3:18 pm
England Raider, are you familiar with what a managing general partner is? I can look it up, but I’m pretty sure a managing general partner is in control no matter of his shares. I’m also quite certain that Al Davis has owned less than 50% of the team for some time now. In fact, there may be owners with a bigger share than him. If you know the facts, regarding the Raiders and their partnership, I’m all ears. But I don’t think you understand one bit of it, to be honest. I don’t think you understand what a managing general partner is.
June 10th, 2011 at 3:24 pm
I hate to repeat myself MR but I will because I realize they won’t deliver newspapers out there on the trailor site:
Clearly, you never met a lawyer.
With Al owning 1% of the team that Managing General Partner stuff “for life” would last about as long as Osama bin Arsehole did when special forces showed up.
And, by the way, Al owns some two thirds of the team.
June 10th, 2011 at 3:30 pm
OK, so you do understand then, without some kind of successful litigation either removing Al as managing partner, or evaporating the title altogether, that Al Davis, due to his title, “Managing General Partner”, is in complete control of this football team, even if he owes 1%? Barring some kind of litigation? Do we have you on that page yet, EnglandRaider? Two people now have tried to educate you on this. Do you get it yet?
June 10th, 2011 at 3:31 pm
We are on the verge of greatness!! Why would Al sell the greatest franchise in the history of the universe?
12- 4 superbowl bound!!
June 10th, 2011 at 3:32 pm
EnglandRaider didn’t know what a managing general partner was, and didn’t even know the Raiders had such a partnership. As soon as he got schooled on it, instead of just admitting he was wrong, he leaped over to this whole, “well, you’ve never met a lawyer” thing. We’re all aware that anyone can sue anyone, EnglandRaider. That wasn’t the argument. You clearly thought that Al Davis couldn’t control the team with a 1% share. You clearly did not know how the Raiders operated. That’s proven.

This Lockout is leaving folks with too much time on their hands instead of covering OTA’s their following every wild story out there. The chance of Mr Davis selling this team at the height of the league is slim and none. They are about to split up $9 bill. Anyone willing to sell has to be someone who’s not to much of a football man and wants the profits.
The Davis’ are a football family they wouldn’t know what to do with money if they sold all they’ve ever done is football, it’s in their blood. As soon as the lock out is over there’s $4 bill they can slice up and Raider ticket sales will take off with the prospects of a good season.

Al doesn’t spend that much money on free agents. Most of those contracts are back loaded, he never winds up paying them. Do you honestly think a top notch free agent would ever fall the type of back loaded contract bums like J. Walker and D. Hall signed? It’s a game Al plays, and only his fans fall for it. He gives bums contracts that look lucrative in the headlines, but they’re really backloaded. He took a bath on Russell’s signing bonus, and that was about it. Al is broke. And your example just proved it even more. When is the last time Al seriously went after top notch free agents in the league? He hasn’t since 2002.

More great games took place in the Oakland Coliseum than almost anywhere in pro football during those years. The “Sea of hands” the “heidi game” just a few with memorable names. Notthing like that happened in LA.
All the great FA’s came in Oakland the Tooz and the Stork just to mention a few outstanding names. They LOST their identity when they moved to LA. It was the beginning of many years of average to mediocre football by the greatest org. in sports. It was the single worst decision Mr Davis has EVER made.

The Raiders are ” Oakland”…
June 11th, 2011 at 7:48 am
It was also one of the worst decisions Oakland has EVER made, they need to step up an dbiuld a cathedral to the Oakland Raiders who helped put them on the map. For once Oakland needs to put their civic pride to good use and do something that should’ve been done many years ago. Biuld a Stadium the city can be proud of something people will come from all around just to see a monument to the City. If Jerry Jones can do it certainly the City of Oakland can.
Only they don’t see the commercial advantage of it.

Mr remember when Shefter said Cable was gone two years ago?
June 11th, 2011 at 9:00 am
Whatched nfl network yesterday about WFL, and it made me realize players should cave. They don’t have to play in the NFL, there are other leagues. NFL just happens to be the most lucrative. Its players that are being greedy. If they don’t want to play then go some where else. I don’t like players who are playing just for $.,and I sure as hell don’t want them on the Raiders.

………
Jones’ stadium is more than a monument to the city of Dallas or the Cowboys. The Stadium is the host of the Cotton Bowl now as well as alternating with Houston each year as the home to the State Championship High School Football games. It also host the Cowboys Classic (LSU v Oregon this year), the Annual TX A&M vs Arkansas game, and 2 other NCAAF matchups.
With other venues in California, do you think Oakland could draw those kinds of events as well?
June 11th, 2011 at 10:01 am
Without a doubt that’s why Pac Bell draws other events such those consistently they just had U2 there. Biuld a bigger better stadium and watch the events roll in. It’s just that Oakland Municiple officials have never really had the vision of Oakland being a world class City the way SF has.
IMO They view themselves as second class in fact San Jose is passing them up and Oakland is the Gateway to both cities from the greater Bay Area. It’s centrally located but they don’t seem to understand the strategic advantage of that. They just kind of sit there like “we’re Oakland stop by we’ll leave the light on for ya’”. And they have so much more to offer.

The Giants tried to get the City to build a new one for quite awhile and finally borrowed the money and built it themselves.
All credit to Peter Magowan. That stadium is going to bring the Giants huge benefits.
Like most I want the Raiders to have the same thing. The Coliseum is a pathetic place for football and baseball.
Sensationally good location but multipurpose stadiums are useless.
June 11th, 2011 at 11:15 am
You’re right but they had to get some funding from the city as well as the site to put it from the city.
However you are right…. still Oakland would be wise to somehow help that to take place.

I think everyone is overanalyzing things.
The bottom line is the Raiders haven’t been winning….for a long time.
The attendance reflects that.
Raiders win games consistently and that stadium sells out consistently. Regardless of the condition of the stadium.
Just Win Baby! One of the greatest slogans of all time! Anywhere!
When the Raiders get back to that, hopefully soon, talk of selling the team, moving, bankruptcy, run defense etc….goes away
June 11th, 2011 at 12:14 pm
and the best way for the Raiders to get back to winning is for the high priced guys to start generating PRODUCTION that honors the money and trust Davis put into them.

June 11th, 2011 at 1:01 pm
AlDavisMachoRetardo,
We don’t have any “high priced” guys. They’re back loaded contracts. That’s what Al does. He can’t really afford top notch free agents, so he signs the bums, gives them contracts that look lucrative in the headlines (so his fans think he’s “trying”), yet they’re back loaded so he never really has to pay them in full. It’s a trick owners use to make their fans think they’re throwing their shirt on the table to win a SB. Of course, he’s really running his team on the cheap. Al is broke. And although I don’t think his title of managing general partner is for sale, I guarantee you 99% of his shares are. I’m sure by now he’d be willing to have a small of a share as allowed to be managing partner. Al Davis is a broken man.
June 11th, 2011 at 1:02 pm
Lefty…..Bruce Campbell is your RG….jhill is right but no one not even I could guess the LG plan as of now and its not Daniel Loper

June 11th, 2011 at 1:08 pm
You know, Brien, that reminds me, who’s coming out to help Al Davis? I mean, Al Davis is one of the most respected men in the game, right? You’d think all kinds of NFL money people from former owners to former players would be offering to help Al out and keep the Raiders from folding. I mean, Al Davis is one of the founders of this league, isn’t he? Man, you’d just think more people would come out and lend a hand right now. So far, the only person to do so is Rich Gannon.
June 11th, 2011 at 1:08 pm
Put it this way Leftster……..your new LG has been with the team since 07

June 11th, 2011 at 1:16 pm
Brien, that’s not the point. The point is, NOBODY’S TRYING TO HELP AL! Get it? Gannon is the only one who offered, and it’s hard to tell whether or not he was just being sarcastic. It’s not a matter of Al wanting help or not, there’s no help being offered for him to reject. The entire football world, that supposedly respects and admires Al so much, is leaving him for dead.

June 11th, 2011 at 1:23 pm

June 11th, 2011 at 1:23 pm
I really don’t see an issue with the Oline and WRs. IMO, it can’t possibly be any worse than it was last year.
Shouldn’t be too hard for the young guys to run block. The issue is picking up the stunts and such in pass protection. Like I said, our pass protection couldn’t be any worse than it was last year. In fact, I suspect that by game 4 or so we’ll see a marked improvement.
June 11th, 2011 at 1:24 pm
Off topic, but I heard Tim Brown interviewed at Freddy B’s golf tournament in Sacto last week and he said he will be back with the team shortly.Didn’t say what he’d do,but that he has been wanting to get reconnected to the team for quite some time and it is likely to happen very soon.
B-I think that line just might work.I know many on here don’t like CC,but I think he does a pretty good job.The main thing will be getting them as many reps as possible in the practice games-if there is a season.
June 11th, 2011 at 1:25 pm
Al doesnt want their help….plain and simple. It doesnt even phase us real Raiders. Al is counterculture and likes sticking out like a sore thumb…..u think there isnt any consequnces for that? Be serious
June 11th, 2011 at 1:25 pm
If Bush and McFadden are healthy coming outta camp, our running game is going to be stellar.
Good enough to let our WRs play 1 on 1.
June 11th, 2011 at 1:26 pm
Jhill u didnt see issue with DT combo and we got ran over last year still. See that stat for dlineman that Violent Hands posted a few days ago? See john henderson near top of list? Thanks for playing

Lefty….well alot of times Carlisle will be pulling and doubling down to help Wiz2. Hope he knows how to handle A and B gap blitzes from blindside
June 11th, 2011 at 1:31 pm

Big John is going to play, and play a lot IF he is able to stay healthy.
I think we all agree that Seymour should be moved around on the Dline. We’ll see the 3 of them on the field together this season.
June 11th, 2011 at 1:39 pm
I like Shaughnessy alot but Seymour isnt a NT….he is a LDE/UT…..houston is a LDE/UT type so at times RDE would be a challenged but we would stop run
June 11th, 2011 at 1:42 pm
Jhill thats all I mean….put those big mean mfkers on field same time…..stop the run is much better for your defensive success
June 11th, 2011 at 1:45 pm
It is what it is B.
Say what you want, but I just watched the Miami game and I know our crappy DTs had our defense in a lot of 3rd and longs.
3rd down defense is more of an issue than Henderson getting 10 additional snaps, imo.

June 11th, 2011 at 1:48 pm

Lol…Jhill look at the course of season….its not even up for debate at that point
June 11th, 2011 at 1:48 pm
Brien, you care enough to respond 5 times and counting.
And, again, Al not wanting help isn’t my point. My point is that nobody’s offering to help him! The Raiders are in shambles, and so far Gannon is the only one to offer help, albeit sarcastically, as I doubt he really cares. He and Al don’t get along. So, where does that leave all of those old school NFL owners, players, what have you, who’ve always admired and respected the great Al Davis? Why aren’t they offering to help Al out both financially and managerially? They’re leaving him for dead.
…I understand Al would likely reject their help, out of pride. But why aren’t they even offering?
Do you now understand? Or should I use shorter words?
June 11th, 2011 at 1:49 pm
Everything is up for debate.
June 11th, 2011 at 1:49 pm
I dont know Jhill….Seymour and Kelly on Left side would be able to rock the qb imo…..also on 3rd down shaugnessy, wimbley and if healthy scott can come in

Spot on here too. I like Kelly and Seymour in the lineup and you can never have too many D-Lineman.
But when it comes to getting in there and clogging the middle you need a guy like Henderson.

Oakland Raiders
Marcel Reece, fullback: The fullback is becoming extinct in the NFL. Many teams just don’t have a use for this position. The fullback, however, thrives in Oakland, a franchise with a rich tradition of fullback play. The Raiders have scored again with Reece. A college receiver, Reece gives Oakland’s offense a delicious variation. He is a key blocker in one of the NFL’s best running attacks, and he is a receiving weapon in short-yardage situations. Plus, the intelligent Reece has become a leader of the unit. The fullback position is alive and well in Oakland.

He is a key blocker in one of the NFL’s best running attacks, and he is a receiving weapon in short-yardage situations.
=========================================
Not completely sold on Reece’s blocking ability, although he does have the size and quicks to improve in this area.
What this write up on Reece fails to mention is that he can be much more than just a weapon in short yardage situations.
Marcel has demonstrated that he can deliver long gains and big plays.
Utilized properly, he’s way more than just a short yardage guy.
June 11th, 2011 at 8:38 pm
Reece has to improve his run blocking. Shouldn’t be too hard for him, as you point out. He should be better at it his 2nd year playing the position.

June 11th, 2011 at 11:04 pm
Armond it would kill me if the Raiders left Oakland again I don’t feel as bad about the A’s because of the situation as well as they would stay in the BA. But I’m not sure if I agree with the whole they never accepted Oakland in the A’s and Raiders case it’s the W’s that seem like they haven’t embraced Oakland.
Armond at some point Oakland would be very wise to help either the A’s or the Raiders get a stadium. It’s juts fiscally sound when you consider the money that can be made with these venues. And keeping these franchises is a means of civic pride and commercial common sense. Sports franchises especially like the A’s and Raiders are ASSETS to be charished not some albatross as it seems sometimes Oakland views them.
June 11th, 2011 at 11:08 pm
I would be very surprised if after camp CC is a starter on ths team with a power blocking scheme. It’s not very hard for these changes to be implemented once training camp is open. To say what is going to happen with any degree of certainty at this point doesn’t mean much IMO. Training camp is an entirely diffferent thing. If CC can hold the position in traning camp m,ore power to him but I can’t see it. JMHO!!

priest, im talkin about the dubs. i mentioned that THEY never took oaklands name. im an oakland boy so i dont care about that bay stuff. the bay looks down on oakland so fugg these other cities teams. the city has tried to work with the A’s but THEY havent worked with the city. some of u guys keep talkin as if oakland dont care but its not true. i know for a fact the city was workin like hell to get the A’s to come to the table 10 years ago for a few years and they declined and then went whinin to the press about how they need a new stadium. when the fugg do we look at these greedy azz owners as the problem? al davis aint innocent either. lets stop all this bullsh!t as if these guys dont play a part in this. hell the dodgers left brooklyn.

Going to be sweet to see Dirk hoisting the championship trophy tonight in Miami! I love seeing LBJ’s pouty face…crying every time he misses a shot, looking for a call!
Anyway, here’s too hoping these greedy billionaires can strike a deal here in the next two weeks! If we have a preseason, i’m hoping Hue throws in Chaz as much as possible to see if he’s healthy enough to go opening night. If not we need to go after Plax, or Chad to build chemistry…sooner the better. I just don’t have much confidence in DHB at this point even though he’s a good at run blocking. I hope the kid get’s his game going!
June 12th, 2011 at 7:42 am

June 12th, 2011 at 7:48 am
SnB, how bout Kellen Heard? I would like to see what he can do at NT.
June 12th, 2011 at 7:57 am
When the Raiders go to a 3/4 defense they’ll probably get a NT but since they employ the 4/3 scheme a NT isn’t needed I know some fans just don’t get this but that’s why they’re so frustrated wanting a NT it wont happen in this system.
Maybe I should use the term “zero technigue” which the technical term for NT instead the 4/3 uses 1.3.5 technigues. Some call the 1technigue a NT which if that’s what you prefer fine but it isn’t the same thing. The Zero technigue is a 2gap player the 1technigue is not but these guys insist we have the 1tech play like a 2gap (zero tech) style but he would be playing outside the 4/3 scheme. The zero lines up over the center TK nor Seymour line up over the center thus they are not NT’s…………………period

UFL needs to be smarter and play football right now rather than later in the season to compete with the NFL. There’s dead space for us between the SB and training camp. No reason why the UFL can’t play its football during this time.
__________________________________________________________
UFL works as an in season “farm system” for the NFL. UFL players can be picked up by NFL teams at any point during their season.
Their season starts after the NFL makes its final roster cuts and ends at the NFL trade/player acquisition deadline. Basically, the UFL allows players who didn’t make NFL teams to stay in game shape and work with former NFL coaches so they are ready to go when NFL roster spots open up due to injuries, cuts etc.
If you can’t beat the NFL, join ‘em!
June 12th, 2011 at 9:53 am
Not really saying NT as much as meaning big man that no one will run on. I play alot of Madden, and guess who I play in the middle? Give up like 30 something rushing yards a game for like 150 games now. Also Howard as my mlb and Aso @ fs w/ Huff as third cb. Yes I know its not real but it sure is fun.
June 12th, 2011 at 9:56 am
Bauce if you ever see a 4/3 DT lining up over center he is out of position he’s not playing gap responsibility. The only time they shift over the center is if they give a 3/4 look which is what we did sometimes. But you’ll see only 3 dlineman in that situation. Just ask any coach any line coach it’s common knowledge..
June 12th, 2011 at 9:58 am
I’m sorry Raidrfankirk but I don’t relate to video games………….no disrespect..
June 12th, 2011 at 10:05 am
Bauce this is a neverending argument, but all they can do is play their positions. Stopping the run isn’t just a DT responsiblity. It’s a defensive responsibilty it takes your entire defense. All they can do is occupy blockers someone else has to tackle if they miss the tackle it’s not the DT’s fault.
You have to make the entire defense responisible or you will never be a great run defense. When you say a DT tandem is good vs the pass they are playing against the same Oline whether it’s run or pass so if they can dominate them vs the pass 9 times out of 10 they can also vs the run. If they can’t be blocked they can’t be blocked………..period
June 12th, 2011 at 10:06 am
Should check it out, believe it or not, there is alot of football to be learned from a video game.
