How Jones overcame learning disability
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer

Check out Steve Corkran’s story on Taiwan Jones published in Bay Area News Group papers which details why the explosive runner struggled with classes because of dyslexia but ultimately surfaced at Eastern Washington and became a fourth-round draft pick.
“I’ll never get a player like him again,” said Chris Hansen, the running backs coach at Eastern Washington. “We usually don’t get to touch players like Taiwan. They’re going to USC and Washington.”

Find ways to get him in the open field.
Big plus having Hue over Cable in that regard. I have a lot more confidence in Hue’s creativity, although he can get too cute at times.
He will backup Jacoby on returns and get maybe a dozen or so kickoff returns this year, and we will see about punts.
June 20th, 2011 at 8:33 am
I would have him returning punts for sure. Jacoby has the return ability to do it but why put him at risk of injury if there is another guy capable.
I want to see a set with 1 wr 1 te and DMac Bush and Jones in the back field, call it our Dynamite package, because it is the most explosive backfield in the NFL. I really like this kid Taiwan, the youtube highlights (i know, refer to mike mitchell to see how reliable youtube is) on him seriously reminded me of Barry Sanders. I am excited to see him get some touches.

BCZ,
what about Marcel Reece?
and who is the WR?
I’m assuming the TE is Zach Miller …
somebody has to block and that isn’t Miller’s specialty. Not that he sucks at it (like JFB & Jhill claim) but I’d say he’s on par with any other TE that is a legitimate receiving threat.
DHB is an excellent blocker, but then you’re pulling the porn lovin’ smurf Jacoby Ford off the field in exchange for somebody fast that can’t catch a cold
and with 4 new OL starters and 2 new OL coaches I don’t think we’ll have the opportunity to unveil the “Dynamite package” in 2011 – think back to 2006

Jones is the closest thing to Garner and Kaufman for us in a long time. Get him on the field Hue and good job Al. I can only imagine the fear in teams as they contemplate whether to kick to Jones or ford on KO’s.
June 20th, 2011 at 9:44 am
As long as Bush and McFadden are around the only time Jones should see the field is if there is an injury or on kick or punt returns….and only on returns if Porn Playa is out.

Asking for Taiwan Jones to have plays drawn up for him and taking away touches for McFadden and Bush would be like the 1995-96 Bulls taking the ball out of Jordan’s and Pippen’s hands so that Jud Buechler could get some shots.
McFadden being Jordan of course.
June 20th, 2011 at 9:57 am
most people around the league think that Tom Cable was an excellent O-Line Coach, but an unqualified Head Coach (didn’t Hue Jackson even say that in his HC presser? LOL)
Anyways, I’m sure some of you cats remember that atrocious 2006 OL before Cable joined on Kiffin’s staff and cleaned up that mess.
2007-2010 the Raiders were pretty impressive in terms of run blocking under Cable’s watch.
Even some of the sacks were attributed to having a QB that couldn’t make quick decisions, couldn’t sense a pass rush and step up in the pocket or WR’s couldn’t get seperation. Since the start of the 2007 season the Raiders have tested McCown, Culpepper, Walter, Russell & Gradkowski. All far below average NFL QB’s on any team. at least Jason Campbell is average and yet still one of the biggest knocks on him is that he doesn’t have a quick release. takes too long to survey the field.
I’m concerned about having Bob Wylie as an O-Line coach. Especially after LMN posted his career W/L records. 18 years at the pro level and he’s NEVER been on a team with a winning record – something crazy like that. and Wiz has ZERO experience as an O-Line coach (was a strength coach at Stanford)

When we took Jones, I thought why? we REALLY dont need another RB! But you can never have too many weapons… I am f-ing pumped about the viciousness this offense can have this year!! Porous run defense? Who cares if you outscore everybody!!

Jacoby Ford is a WR and no one had a problem with him ‘taking carries’ from McFadden, especially when he housed the 76 yarder. McFadden will get his fair share of the carries, but I would rather see him get 20 carries a game and stay healthy than 25-30 and miss 5 games with hammy injuries.
Dont forget that the only thing that stopped Taiwan from being a D1 star was a poor GPA. This guy MAY (i stress the MAY) be a first round talent stolen in the fourth. Only way to find out is to put the ball in his hands.
June 20th, 2011 at 10:15 am

RRS,
Let’s put Jones back there for PR and Ford+Jones for KO. Sounds pretty fantastic to me.
June 20th, 2011 at 10:24 am
Yuuuup!
I have concluded the Warriors should draft Jordan Hamilton if he is there at #11. He has game on offense and has nice size and athleticism and can rebound and has active hands. May still need to improve defensively, but that is where Malone will come into play and coach em up!
Take Jordan Hamilton Warriors and be happy!
June 20th, 2011 at 10:28 am
Woodson will easily get to the HOF before Nnamdi does under all circumstances. IMO, the fact that nobody throws in his direction will NOT be a consideration. Getting into the HOF is based on perceptions and BIG plays – sacks, Int’s, forced fumbles, etc. Nnamdi is just NOT that kind of player & never will be.

Good morning Raiders fans. I’m new to your site and I hope to contribute when I have a worthwhile comment.
Hope a settlement between the players and owners is reached soon and that we end up with an (18) game schedule, rather than (16) and (4) preseason games.

Can’t argue with that statement. It would be tough for him to get sacks when we don’t blitz. It would be tougher for him to get INT’s when they won’t throw at him. Etc., etc., etc. Bottomline – no matter how good he is, his chances for HOF are slim at best.
June 20th, 2011 at 10:47 am
Bauce good morning.
June 20th, 2011 at 10:47 am
I have to agree with AIG on Ford and Jones back there on KO returns. That can be a scary combo, unlike the FB, Cable chose to stick in there. Who in the hell sticks a fb in for KO returns? Lmao!
I don’t have any problems sticking Jones in for a 3-4 plays a game. 3 backs that have the ability to take it to the house at any giving play is a good problem to have. Besides it will save wear and tear during the long season. That will benefit Run DMC the most.
June 20th, 2011 at 10:49 am

Nnamdi satays helthier though and actually may be a better cover man but the way WOodson could tackle/hit and break on balls second to none. Plus, he would jam the $#!t out of the best WRs at the line of scrimage and was deadly on the blitz.

darren mcfadden is unstoppable. everytime he touches the ball positive things happen his first two years in the nfl he averaged 8.7 touches per ball game. even BARRY SANDERS COULDNT have good or even average stats with those touches. he makes defenders look slow and stiff he is fast strong and has vision he is a matchup problem for anyone because he can turn around a db on a route playing receiver or break him off with a slamt or run it with him he will just run by you or if he cant he’ll run you over

What’s wrong with that? It’s probably good for Ford to not be the primary returner…as long as TJ can be somewhat as effective. And DMAC still hasn’t shown that he can stay healthy, so TJ can pick up some of the slack and help keep that DMAC/Bush speed power change of pace dynamic.
That’s all assuming that an unproven small school guy can actually translate what he did in school to the NFL.

In today’s NFL teams can win with a dominant defense or a dominant offense. Because of free agency and the salary cap its either one or the other.
This year the Raiders can make some moves to get dominant on offense, while the defense looks like it will be bend-not-break at best.
On offense, the Raiders are deep at running back with Darren McFadden’s explosiveness out the backfield, and Michael Bush and Taiwan Jones to back him up.
Jason Campbell can improve from last year because its his second season with the same offensive scheme. The Raiders have the most depth on the offensive line in a long time although there a lot of youth on the line.
If the Raiders can get a veteran free-agent Wide Receiver to compliment the young core, than the Raiders have a chance to dominate on the offensive side of the ball.

Even though it was all pretty cookie cutter, I agreed with everything except that part about depth on the Oline. We don’t have depth….yet. Heyward-Bey is a good kid & hard worker. He’s not blingy. He’s not drinking cough syrup. He’s not throwing teammates or coaches under the bus. He’s working out under his own free will and was living with Jason Campbell this offseason. It’s obvious the dude needs more seperation and better concentration, but I’m not ready to write him off just yet.
Most young WR’s start to “get it” in Year #3. It’s not his fault he was overdrafted. Al Davis gave them that huge contract and chose him 1st when he was probably the 10th best WR in that draft class. Only time will tell if Davis selected another bust, but right now is not the time imo

June 20th, 2011 at 1:14 pm
The bottom line is our DTs had nothing to do with us losing the Jags game. Most of your examples are late in the 4th qtr.
Our defense as a whole was pretty much shutting them down the entire game. The long TD pass that Huff gave up was on Marshall and his 5 safety set.
Seymour, or any player missing a tackle in the backfield should not be the guy looked at as the reason a frickin 70 yd play happens, lol. That’s just ABSURD!
You take away TWO plays, 2 dag on plays mayne, and our defense gives up 14 LESS pts and we are dominating.
That’s my only point mayne. A play here, and a play there and we are winning games. I feel that’s a BIG difference from the Kirk Morrison years.
I’ve already said I have no problem with a line of Seymour-Kelly-Henderson-Houston in “obvious run situations”. I think we just disagree as to what those obvious situations are.

Bush and DMac should start as 2 RBs, not a RB/FB combo. DMac would see time as a WR in the slot. Jones would get at least 4 or 5 “touches” and also see some time as a WR in the slot.
I really don’t see an issue with getting Jones involved in the gameplan.
June 20th, 2011 at 1:29 pm
ALSO BAUCE IN THE PIT AND MIA GAMES I FEEL WE ABANDONED THE RUN TOO EARLY. FOR EXAMPLE IN THE HOUSTON AND TENNESSEE GAMES THEY DID NOT RUN THE BALL EFFECTIVELY AT ALL BUT THEY STUCK WITH EVENTUALLY CJ BROKE A SIXTY FIVE YARDER AND IN OAKLAND THE KID FROM TENN BROKE FOR 70 YARDER. THEY KEPT WITH IT I THINK IF WE DID THAT MORE OFTEN WE WOULD BE DOMINANT!
June 20th, 2011 at 1:30 pm
Most young WR’s start to “get it” in Year #3. It’s not his fault he was overdrafted. Al Davis gave them that huge contract and chose him 1st when he was probably the 10th best WR in that draft class. Only time will tell if Davis selected another bust, but right now is not the time imo
——————————————————-
Agreed!
In that same Jags game, DHB made a couple nice catches and only had one drop. Crucial drop, granted, but 2 outta 3 is not a bust. The guy rarely got the pelota thrown his way, or shall we just say he was RARELY the 1st or 2nd read in the offense.
June 20th, 2011 at 1:31 pm
Jhill it highlights the overwhelming evidence who our best run stuffer is and it shows even further that Kelly and Seymour are not good enough vs the run. Trade for Osi now start Hendu bench Kelly………..Umenyiora Henderson Seymour Houston is afearsome Dline pass rushing and run stopping wise
June 20th, 2011 at 1:33 pm
We will be dominant when we get better guards for power scheme
June 20th, 2011 at 1:33 pm
Now I’m not saying DHB should be the 1st or 2nd read, but I do think he should be a part of the game plan. Again, 4-5 touches a game shouldn’t be too hard to make happen. I also think we should go right back to the kid after he makes a mistake instead of freezing him out. Almost worked to the tune of a win in the Az game.
June 20th, 2011 at 1:34 pm
Meeze what makes you think Satele is gonna be a good guard in power scheme? WE DONT RUN THE PXSSY ASS ZBS
June 20th, 2011 at 1:34 pm
agreed, i did post earlier we need ol/og help my first thought was resign satele and go hard for dahl. now that i know lutui is available i say go hard for lutui and dahl and really try to bring them in it would make our offense ten times better

It’s easy to stick with the run when you’re ahead. We were playing from behind.
June 20th, 2011 at 1:37 pm
because he was our starter last year and we did run a power scheme at times. we did mainly run zbs most of the time but we mix in the power run. i dont think he is that bad obviously you do
June 20th, 2011 at 1:39 pm
Jhill the guy sux….DHBz is no good. 9 catches then 26….what in his 3rd year we will get 40 and 2 total tds! wooooohooooo
June 20th, 2011 at 1:40 pm
JOE we were not that far behind in those games. against miami they really didnt finish us off until ricky broke a fifty yarder in the mid fourth. at the endof the day we all agree we need help on the oline
June 20th, 2011 at 1:41 pm
Satele was our starter at Guard? When? lol. We ran some power but more zbs. Now we going 100 with power and you need guys to handle that
June 20th, 2011 at 1:42 pm
not at guard at center
June 20th, 2011 at 1:42 pm
All Satele can do in Oakland is be a backup
June 20th, 2011 at 1:42 pm
but he did play guard game one and at times for us in the two years he played and in the preseason
June 20th, 2011 at 1:44 pm
thats fine i envision him being a backup too but i would rather have a quality backup who has some starts under his belt and some success too. we need to improve not only our talent but our depth on the line
June 20th, 2011 at 1:44 pm
Bauce….he’s shown flashes. Yeah, hes not a natural like Jacoby, but It seems more mental with him than anything. During training camp, even Jerry said that he looked like a totally different player. Maybe this is the year that he gets it all put together during games.

JaJason’s best pass against Jax ?
2 yard lateral, on play he extended very nicely by moving right for an eternity and then tossing to DMAC.
Almost looked like a college option.
Can’t remember JaJason going downfield much that day (or any other day for that matter). Don’t have the game on tape, so I might be mistaken.
DMAC was great that day though.
In retrospect, the loss to Jax was probably the worst loss of the year in that the playoffs were on the horizon had the Raids prevailed – and that game was there for the taking.
Jani’s miss in AZ really stung but Jax was the key game that the Raids could have and should have won – and they let it get away.
Playoffs became unlikely after that loss, but to the Raids credit they didn’t pack it in. Had an uninspiring flat effort against the Colts, but really kicked tail against the Chargers and Chefs.
Can’t wait for the 2011 season, even if JaJason is the QB.
June 20th, 2011 at 1:45 pm
and it shows even further that Kelly and Seymour are not good enough vs the run
——————————————————
They were pretty stout against the run for about 3 and a half qtrs.
Muscle smurf ran for a TOTAL of 101 yds on 23 carries. 30 of those yds came on his last run of the day.

——————————————————-
I’m in the minority on this one, I guess.
I think our Oline has already been upgraded. Addition by subtraction, if you will. From the scheme, to the 3 new starters, I really don’t see an issue.
Our pass protection couldn’t possibly be any worse than it was last year. I’d say by game 2 or 3, it should show marked improvement as the rookies get their feet under them.
Our run blocking will be better, imo. We have some young hogs that will certainly open some holes. Only question mark imo is Carlisle. But my guy tells me that he is a “savage” run blocker, so I guess we’ll see how it goes.
June 20th, 2011 at 1:56 pm
Jhill….the game is played for 60 minutes or more…not 30 not 45 not 59 but 60!
June 20th, 2011 at 1:58 pm
Savage run blocker? In zbs maybe but power? Never. I hope you fundamentally how different both schemes are. Oline doesnt work in uunison in power scheme
June 20th, 2011 at 1:59 pm
I want big uglies at Guards not green ass Bruce Campbell or soft ass Carlisle
June 20th, 2011 at 2:00 pm
I’m afraid I don’t want to say anything bad about Mr Davis so I don’t want to upset anyone if I say something nice about Mr Davis.
But I do know if Jason C our qb doesnt nutt up we’ll be in for a long and painful season. I hope Hue Jackson puts a foot up the qbs’ rear end if he doesn’t nutt up and get it done. The dude needs to seriously grow a pair.

How can you count unproven rookies as an improvement? Wiz I believe is a pretty sure bet, but no guarantees with the other guys. I don’t think we can really know what we have on the OL until we see them play.
June 20th, 2011 at 2:01 pm
Hard for DHB to be a deep threat if he can’t catch the ball over his shoulder or with his back to the line of scrimmage.
Seriously, I can’t remember him hauling in a pass unless he was facing the QB or moving laterally.
Seen some film of him doing it at Maryland, haven’t seen it at all with the Raids.
Can’t even remember many instances where he’s had a chance to do so.
Could be that he’s not getting open.
Also could be that JaJason is a puss that’s petrified he might get picked if he ever airs it out.
I wouldn’t be willing to bet on DHB hauling in a long pass, but JaJason hasn’t given him much of a chance either.
June 20th, 2011 at 2:01 pm
Oline aint really working in unison in power scheme. After Wiz2 calls out protection package thats it. ZBS is reactionary while power goes right at a defense
June 20th, 2011 at 2:04 pm
Ninerwoman49 as usual is off. JC has tried but DHB is a loss cause. If you cant remember then shut the fk upp! U usually dont remmeber most things. Now leave Steinberg

exclamation points don’t make it true.

I think Cambell did fine once he realized that he couldn’t just sit back and pretend to be a prototypical pocket passer with the way our OL pass blocked. He started using his legs a lot more to buy time the second half of the year, and it made a big difference. It also didn’t hurt that he didn’t have to worry about being yanked for Grads anymore.
June 20th, 2011 at 2:10 pm
71 yards 22 carries = 3.2 yards a carry but 101 on 23 carries is 4.3 yards a carry. by sticking with their guy

June 20th, 2011 at 2:14 pm
Beast Campbell at RG is going to be an upgrade over Carlisle at least in the running game. Just on physicalness alone.
Pass protection?
Well this where I go back to it can’t be any worse. The guy he is replacing was the worst guy at it on the Oline.
Sorry B, but I think Campbell has a better chance of being sucessful at G than T. He has the size and power to do it, imo. And I’m interested to see how his athleticism is going to translate. Our blocking on the second level could be a lot better.

June 20th, 2011 at 2:21 pm
The problem with the Jax game was not DT but TOP. We scored more points in that game vs SD the week before but it was nite and day diff between the 2 games.
vs SD, we controlled the clock and had multiple drives of over 5 mins TOP. That kept the D fresh and kept Rivers off the field. At the same time, we wore down SD’s defense.
vs Jax, we only had 1 drive of over 5 mins. The D got tired and broke its gap discipline at the end of the game. I believe we scored 2 quick scores on in Jax and it really masked what the real game was.
per nfl.com
3-8-OAK 33 (10:42) (Shotgun) 8-J.Campbell pass short right to 20-D.McFadden for 67 yards, TOUCHDOWN.
1-10-OAK 49 (11:31) 20-D.McFadden right guard for 51 yards, TOUCHDOWN.
After the SD game, Tom Cable declared that running down their throat is who we are. BUT from there on, Hue Jack came out throwing time and again. @SD was our most complete game of the season.
June 20th, 2011 at 2:21 pm
Thanks JoePR78. Still not sold on our qb yet. You can’t be a nutless wonder with someone breathing down your neck. There is always someone that wants your job. But if Hue can grind out a good ground game given the great backs he will have this year, maybe jason can play a little pressure free knowing he has got a ground game.
June 20th, 2011 at 2:23 pm
its the same excuse with you all day

Same with you mayne. Despite the facts, you still roll with your DT theory. No one else on the defense has any accountability.

BUT, did you see the pic that was with that article? I hope it’s just the angle of the shot, or dude has the smallest head I’ve ever seen. Look at how big the Raider helmet is compared to his dome…

Yes, the “situuation” with Brian the Genital and his grandpa Krappy runs much deeper than anyone can probably handle!
Poor little Brian has been forced to change Krappy’s diapers at every home game going back to ‘96. Only recently Krappy has insisted the Brian do it in the stands instead of the changing table in the restroom.
So you see why these two silly buns are constantly bickering. I’ll say it again – the Kelly family sure is wacky!

We stopped the Jax run game cold for most of the game but it was a no brainer that they got wore down late in the game.
The same thing happened to us with LT for so many games and years. Our guys would contain him for most of the game and then he’d break a long one late in the game. In all of those cases, it was the inability of our offense to control the clock and keep the D fresh.
June 20th, 2011 at 2:47 pm

I missed that memorandum.
Got a link or some proof ?
As far as the use of JaJason starting all this, that’s just a weak attempt to justify your blatent exhibition of Jew bashing.
Let’s assume that the use of JaJason was somehow a racial thing. It’s not, but let’s assume it was.
Would that justify you bashing Jews or using terms like ‘hymie’ and ‘kike’ ?
Saucey, you really should cool it with nonsensical whining about JaJason being a racial epithet when it clearly isn’t. Especially if you’re going to go off the deep end with your ‘half breed’ ‘hymie’ ‘kike’ and other rants in the next breath.

June 20th, 2011 at 2:49 pm
I dont think McIlroy has the mental stuff necessary to be in Tiger or Jack’s league. Look at all the great ones in sports and most of them are not really nice guys at all. You have to be very selfish and an egomaniac to believe you are better than all of them and then spend an enormous amount of time working on your game like a machine.
Rory is a nice fella and he’ll prob be in the Phil category of 4-5 majors. On top of that you need to be a grinder. With all his talent, he has only won a few tournaments. Tiger and Jack won consistently and it didnt require a major to get them motivated.

You’re now going to call him the next Tiger/Jack who each have won 90+ wins and 14+ majors? I think that’s a bit early dont you think? Greatness in golf is the ability to GRIND when you dont have your best stuff. You should look up how many times Jack and Tiger finished 2nd or top 10 in majors. When Rory doesnt have his stuff he has yet to show he can grind it out.
Those are facts and welcome to the blog.

From what I saw of TJ he has exceptional talent looking at Video of a HB is easier than any position because they either have it or they don’t. It’s like looking at a kid to see if he is a shooter in basketball either he makes shots or he doesn’t. The better shooters can get their own shot the spot up shooters cannot.
In a HB either you have speed or you don’t either you have some shake or you don’t, either you have power or you don’t. This kid has speed and shake and a little power when he needs it. The thing I like is he has size potential. He can get to 205-210 and still run under 4.35 he ran a 4.28 off an injury. This kid can catch and he says he can block which was not on the youtube video so we’ll see as far as that is concerned. But Hue had the sam reaction I had when I saw his video and I’m sure Hue saw his coaches tape. This kid has awesome talent. He is so explosibve on the edge it’s downright ridiculous plus he will cut it back he’s not a one trick pony he will run right at you when he has to.
I’m shocked he went in the 4th I’m not sure what the other teams were looking at but this kids has Jamaal Charles type talent. He’s not some 180 lbs. scatback who cannot take a solid hit. He’s 200 and very very similar CJ2K. Who almost slid to the 2nd rnd himself. I see this kid giving us the same kind of juice that Ford gave us and we will need him this is going to be a very physical season. We will need him to make some plays.

Fox News Viewers Are The Most Misinformed: Study
Fox News viewers are much more likely than others to believe false information about American politics, a new study concludes.
The study, conducted by the University of Maryland, judged how likely consumers of various news outlets and publications were to believe misinformation about a wide range of political issues. Overall, 90% of respondents said they felt they had heard false information being given to them during the 2010 election campaign. However, while consumers of just about every news outlet believed some information that was false, the study found that Fox News viewers, regardless of political information, were “significantly more likely” to believe that:
–Most economists estimate the stimulus caused job losses (12 points more likely)
–Most economists have estimated the health care law will worsen the deficit (31 points)
–The economy is getting worse (26 points)
–Most scientists do not agree that climate change is occurring (30 points)
–The stimulus legislation did not include any tax cuts (14 points)
–Their own income taxes have gone up (14 points)
–The auto bailout only occurred under Barrack (13 points)
–When TARP came up for a vote most Republicans opposed it (12 points)
–And that it is not clear that Barrack was born in the United States (31 points)
In addition, the study said, increased viewership of Fox News led to increased belief in these false stories.

Bauce I just watched the play you supposedly dink the DT’s for not making. Yeah they got handled but the reason MJD scored is Stevie Brown is stuck on stupid. You have to key run on that play he didn’t read and react. Seymour and TK were double because they saw us in a pass defense Brown has to attack the and he doesn’t and it gives MJD a 2way go anybody who does that is saying to the HB ‘go ahead and score’. He needed to reduce the space between himself and the LOS. At least put a hit on him and you blame the DT’s again. It takes all 11 men to play great run defense not just the DT’s……………..period
June 20th, 2011 at 3:24 pm
I think the Raid OL did a decent job run blocking last year. Pass protection was not good.
Even though the Raids racked up a lot of rushing yards, still had the feeling when a tough two or three yards were needed on 3rd and 2, they weren’t going to have the push or muscle to move opposing defenses back.
Remember the futility around the goal line when Fargas could never punch it in for 6 ? Sure, the crash dummy didn’t have a nose for the EZ, but alot of that was the line’s fault too.
Truth is, the OL got overpowered way too much.
I’m glad the Raids are moving away from the ZBS.
Raid football should be smashmouth.
I like mobile pulling Guards as much as the next guy, but when push comes to shove you’ve gotta have the brutes up front, especially near the goal line.

Here was my take on McFadden prior to last year:
Dakota Says:
As to McFadden:
I cannot deny his troubles with fumbles.
However, he has been injured the past two years. Injuries happen. It was nothing more than bad luck that in the first game the he was used he was blowing up the competition, and then suffered turf toe, an injury that lingers forever.
It was also unfortunate for McFadden that just prior to the 2008 season we lost our bright, young blocking FB, Oneal, who’s loss was a blow to our entire running game.
It was also unfortunate for McFadden that Tom Cable was promoted to head coach and had a love affair with Fargas and had no clue, or no desire to use McFadden, or Bush for that matter.
It was unfortunate that we let Tom Rathman go as RB coach.
It was also unfortunate for McFadden that Tom Cable convinced Al to go with garbage o-linemen the past two seasons.
It was also unfortunate for McFadden that Jamarcus Russell and every other QB on the Raiders was a joke, and so the opposition’s defense could stack the LOS and not even worry about the passing attack.
So is there any reason for hope for McFadden? Hell yes!
First, Tom the joke Cable has been replaced by Hue Jackson as play caller. He will better understand how to utilize McFadden.
Second, Jason Campbell is a qualified NFL QB that defenders will have to account for, which should afford McFadden more reasonable 7 man fronts, and who has the ability to throw a screen pass with accuracy allowing McFadden to do damage in the passing game.
Third, Cable’s butt buddy Fargas is out of the picture. No more opening series drives game planned for Fargas.
Fourth, we have signed several FBs and my hope is that at least one of them can step up and finally replace the lost Oneal.
My hope for McFadden in 2010 is based on logic. Soon you will see me proven right once again…
….unless Al fuks it all up by allowing Cable to call plays, keeping Russell at QB, re-signing Fargas, and cutting all the FBs except for Lawson!
If McFadden can’t stay healthy this season and his injury troubles continue then I will be the first one to admit that McFadden is a failure. But that just isn’t going to happen.

Especially with his measurables.
Taiwan’s got good size and 4.28 speaks for itself.
Only reasons for a drop to the 4th would be level of competiton, ball security and injury history.
I hope and think his type of game (speed and elusiveness) will translate well at the next level. Ball security is always a concern, but one that’s coachable.
Injury history ? Don’t believe he missed much time due to injury. Haven’t heard about anything major in the way of injury outside of the broken foot which seems to have healed well.

Shame Of America: Desperate Man Robs Store For One Dollar In Order To Go To Jail To Get Health Coverage
James Richard Verone spent his whole life playing by the rules and staying out of trouble. Having worked as a delivery man for Coca Cola for 17 years, Verone was known as a hard worker and honest man.
Yet when he was laid off from Coca Cola three years ago, Verone was desperate to find work. He eventually found employment as a convenience clerk, yet he began to notice a protrusion in his chest. He developed arthritis and carpal tunnel syndrome, and soon the pain became too much for him to bear. He filed for disability, but he was denied any sort of coverage by the federal government.
So earlier this month, Verone drove to a local RBC Bank and told the teller he was robbing them for a dollar. He said he wanted to rob the bank in order to go to jail and get medical coverage:
Verone didn’t want to scare anyone. He executed the robbery the most passive way he knew how. He handed the teller a note demanding one dollar, and medical attention. “I didn’t have any fears,” said Verone. “I told the teller that I would sit over here and wait for police.”
Verone says he’s not a political man. But he has a lot to say on the subject of socialized medical care. He suspects he wouldn’t be talking to a reporter through a metal screen wearing an orange jumpsuit if such an option were available in the U.S. “If you don’t have your health you don’t have anything,” said Verone. The man has high hopes with his recent incarceration. He has seen several nurses and has an appointment with a doctor Friday. The ideal scenario would include back and foot surgery and a diagnosis and treatment of the protrusion on his chest, he said.

CHART: Since 1950, Lower Top Tax Rates Have Coincided With Weaker Economic Growth
Ever since President Barrack was on the campaign trail, he has been derided by Republicans for vowing to allow the Bush tax cuts for the richest two percent of Americans to expire. And that’s because, to Republicans, there are few things more important than the top marginal tax rate. And to hear Republicans tell it, marginal tax rates are the be-all and end-all of economic growth.
“We’ve seen over the last 30 years that lower marginal tax rates have led to a growing economy, more employment and more people paying taxes,” said Speaker of the House John Boehner. “We also need to just cut the top marginal rate for individuals and corporations so that we’re more competitive and companies can look way out in the future and know they’ll have a competitive tax rate,” said Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC). “The economics profession has been really clear about this – higher marginal tax rates create a drag on economic growth,” added House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI).
But is the data as clear as Ryan suggests? In fact, as Michael Linden, Director of Tax and Budget Policy at the Center for American Progress, found, “growth was actually fastest in years with relatively high top marginal tax rates”:
Back in the 1950s, when the top marginal tax rate was more than 90 percent, real annual growth averaged more than 4 percent. During the last eight years, when the top marginal rate was just 35 percent, real growth was less than half that. Altogether, in years when the top marginal rate was lower than 39.6 percent — the top rate during the 1990s — annual real growth averaged 2.1 percent. In years when the rate was 39.6 percent or higher, real growth averaged 3.8 percent. The pattern is the same regardless of threshold. Take 50 percent, for example. Growth in years when the tax rate was less than 50 percent averaged 2.7 percent. In years with tax rates at or more than 50 percent, growth was 3.7 percent.

In January 2001, before the Bush tax cuts were enacted, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office projected annual budget surpluses of approximately $800 billion between 2009 and 2012. The CBO now projects a $1.2 trillion annual deficit for those years and has also stated that the Bush tax cuts contributed to the budget deficit.

Aides To GOP Governor Indicted For Trying To Suppress Black Voter Turnout In 2010 Campaign
Two top aides to former Maryland Gov. Robert Ehrlich (R) were indicted Friday for trying to suppress Democratic voter turnout by ordering misleading phone calls that discouraged voters from going to the polls. The Baltimore Sun reports that Paul Schurick, Ehrlich’s communications director, and Julius Henson, a longtime GOP operative, directed this deceptive robocall campaign targeting the state’s black voters during last year’s gubernatorial campaign:
Julius Henson and Paul Schurick each face three counts of conspiracy to violate Maryland election laws, one count of attempting to influence a voter’s decision and one count of failing to provide an authority line (on campaign material). Schurick also is charged with one count of obstruction of justice. [...]
The indictment, handed up by a Baltimore City grand jury, came after an eight-month investigation by State Prosecutor Emmet Davitt into tens of thousands of robocalls that went out late on Election Day. A caller instructed voters in Democratic areas to stay home and “relax” because Democratic Gov. Martin O’Malley had already won. In fact, the polls were still open.
[...]
The indictment describes a document titled “The Schurick Doctrine” and says that it was “designed to promote confusion, emotionalism, and frustration among African-American Democrats.”

Are you an advocate of a one party system?
June 20th, 2011 at 4:52 pm
We don’t have a one party system, twocents. Why do you think these tea party cooks are going so crazy right now? because both parties are the same? Not a peep from them until Democrats took back the white house. Democrats care about the average American far more than Republicans. They just let Republicans push them around too much.
June 20th, 2011 at 4:58 pm
Should’ve just stationed themselves in front of polling places with batons in their hands and attempted to intimidate voters that way.
They’d never be prosecuted for that.
June 20th, 2011 at 4:58 pm

I disagree. While there is disagreement between the two crime families, neither of them is concerned with the plight of the average American.

Democrats? Intimidate voters with batons? I only wish they had the gall. They can’t even stand up to John Boehner.
June 20th, 2011 at 5:03 pm
twocents, most Democrats went into politics in the first place to protect average Americans. Most Republicans went into politics in the first place to punish average Americans.

JFB’s insinuation that everyone in the bay area thinks like bay area law enforcement is about as stupid as someone insinuating that everyone in New Mexico thinks like the native Americans there. He’s taking a minority culture in one region, conservative law enforcement in the bay area, in this instance, something that has always existed in the bay area, no matter how liberal the area is (or ever was), and holding everyone in the bay area accountable for their actions, just to make the asinine argument that SF is less “tolerant” than New Mexico. I think that New Mexico sun, crunching those retirement account numbers, and perhaps even his guilty conscience that comes with being a towel boy for a bogus insurance company that preys on public safety employees, are all starting to eat away at his brain.

June 20th, 2011 at 10:38 pm
Russell was a troubled individual, and playing on a team like the Raiders couldn’t have helped. The Raiders’ environment is hell on players who even have their stuff together. Ask Rich Gannon.
June 20th, 2011 at 10:50 pm
Lots of political opinions on this site and without an NFL season actually in place, at this time, I can understand the back and forth. For myself, I’ve learned over the years to avoid politics and religion as it’s impossible to win your point of view or to change ones beliefs. They are what they are.
I’m hoping Ford can improve the great rookie year he had, I’m hoping Bey can improve “somewhat.” Maybe even get a little separation and make a few catches. Hope Chaz can stay healthy, as he could offer a lot, especially in long 3rd down situations. If MacFadden stays healthy and has another good year, probably bigger if our offensive line can improve…wow. I could go on and on but I’ll spare you what you all know and hope for as well.
What’s the opinion on Rod Woodson? Will he be able to up grade our defensive coverage, will he have any say so in “urging” pressure, via more blitzing…or will
Al be running our “vanila-defense” again from his box seat?
June 20th, 2011 at 11:01 pm
hagar i think rod woodson will definitely improve our secondary and i think he’ll do tremendous work on our new corners dvd and chekwa and for sure routt. they’re going to get some valuable teaching having him as a coach. there’s no doubt in my mind if asomugha resigns we’ll end up having the best secondary in the nfl because we have one of the greatest dbs of all time as coach.
June 20th, 2011 at 11:09 pm
Please, don’t even think that Asomugha will resign with us. That would be “too good” to be true and would step up our defense big time. Hopefully he’s willing to drop a few million per year (doubtful), and Al, because he has a “thing” for corners, is willing to pay those big bucks. I’m sure Asomugha would like to remain in the area, rather than relocate in some other God forsaken place in hicksville. Well see, and ya, I’ll continue to dream the dream that he’s back in the silver-and-black.
June 20th, 2011 at 11:19 pm
I would like Al to hire “Romo” back, so that he could teach our line-backers how to spit and gouge and main all in the spirit of destruction. Our defense needs to
put the fear back in the hit so that our opponents play us gingerly while we kick their butts.
June 20th, 2011 at 11:23 pm
i hope asomugha resigns with us and with the drafting of 2 corners and that deal with rout it appears nnamdi is gone, but this is al davis we’re talking about. remember charles woodson? our best cb before aso and he left and what happened, dude won a super bowl ring and is the best playmaking cb in the league and can do everything on the field. im sure thats still on al davis’ mind and im pretty sure he doesnt want to relive that if nnamdi leaves and doing that with another team. remember if al davis ever has opportunities, he’ll damn sure take the risks he doesnt care but we’ll see.
June 20th, 2011 at 11:25 pm
hahah yes hagar i definitely agree with you on romo,we need some nastiness in our lbs and just imagine the nastiness he could instill in mcclain!
June 20th, 2011 at 11:25 pm
I think the kiss of death for Nnamdi (as far as playing for Oakland) was when Al Davis said that he could get a few good players for what he would have to pay Nnamdi.
I don’t know. We had seven straight losing seasons WITH Nnamdi on the team. I know it wasn’t his fault, but how much worse could we be without him some would say.
June 20th, 2011 at 11:29 pm
Wow, extra exciting day in the cookoos’ nest today. On another note related to ‘football’ do you think Coach Davis should bring Farve on board as the QB coach for the Raiders? I mean if Farve is going to be Newtons tutor, why not get him here for JC. Aren’t they buddies anyway, Farve and JC?
And in my ongoing petition to Coach Davis to keep Asomugha, it would just be plain stoopid to let him go. Absolutely stoopid.

Have you ever heard of this thing called “penalties”? Well, they hurt. And you get a ton of them if you try to implement the game plan you described. It’s a QBs game now of x’s and o’s, and nobody is intimidated by any defense because the ones that hit late get flagged quick.
June 20th, 2011 at 11:58 pm
It’s not just about hitting late MR-
It’s about laying the law down on the field and putting the fear of whatever higher power you believe in, into you.

If you ask 100 people about this scenario, 99 of them would agree and YOU would be on an island. I know you’re cool with standing on your own by this is ridiculous!
Where were the LBs and Safeties since both the DTs were doubled? Shouldn’t they have been running free a la Ray Lewis?
Are you really telling me that you expect our DTs to be able to beat a double team and make the play? DTs occupying 2 guys = other guys freed up to make the play.

Funniest part of the review of the game?
On the long TD run by the backup RB, watch MM34.
With the little bit of misdirection by one lineman, MM34 completely runs the wrong way at the snap and just runs himself out of the play without being blocked.
Not the instincts your looking for in a SS.

Yes good morning Hwnrdr.
J, could have used you in the morning film review this morning.
What a game from Carlisle!!! On the 3rd quarter D-Mac TD, he completely pancakes the DT. DT is on his back, Carlisle is on top of him, and Darren is in the end zone. Beautiful
The last TD from Darren, I watch in awe as Carlisle blocks two guys, and walls off the MLB.
Savage my friend, savage.

Like I said, we’ve upgraded our OLine.
Carlisle = much better than Gallery!
June 21st, 2011 at 7:42 am
Gallery was total garbage that whole game!!
Man, he and Walker were awful. I rewinded each running play at least once and watched certain guys. They failed, all the time.
June 21st, 2011 at 7:45 am
Even though the Raids racked up a lot of rushing yards, still had the feeling when a tough two or three yards were needed on 3rd and 2, they weren’t going to have the push or muscle to move opposing defenses back.
——————————————————-
Totally agree with this JFB.
What was Savage’s role in this HUGE problem?
June 21st, 2011 at 7:46 am
Terrible decision-making from Soup down the stretch.
He got completely bailed out on the fumble return for TD. Why would he try to push the ball like that? Down 7 with 10 minutes to go is no time for panic, just take the sack, hold onto the ball and hope your D can get off the field.
Just TERRIBLE risk/reward with that. Than he comes back in and throws it right to the LB who drops an easy pick 6.
And the last play was snapped with 11 seconds. He has to know that fs something to the end zone isn’t there, throw it away and run one last play INTO THE END ZONE. Absolutely can’t throw it off your back foot 23 yards short of the end zone.
Again risk/reward scenario was awful.
Step it up Soup!!!

3rd and 2’s have become passing downs in today’s NFL. Too tough to run.
I want to say I remember seeing during a game that conversion rates running the ball on 3rd and 3 or less was right around 55%, league-wide.
I will look for the stat.
June 21st, 2011 at 7:49 am

I don’t know why everyone was so worked up about Gallery not being signed to big contract. He went from a bad blocker to a good blocker not probowl material blocks and Al paid him big money early in his deal for no return on his dollars. Gallery is starting to get injured now and when he was in games he did not dominate. I don’t blame AL one bit for not giving this guy top dollar. I am sorry but we were running the ball decent with out Gallery in the line up so why not save the bank?
June 21st, 2011 at 7:56 am
LOL!
Why was he throwing off his back foot?
***************************
Because he gets too shook to step up in the pocket.
Pass protection wasn’t bad on the play. Not great, but everyone knew he was throwing, so the rushers pinned their ears back.
Nothing wrong with throwing it off your back foot, OUT OF BOUNDS SO YOU CAN RUN ANOTHER PLAY.
Risk/reward down the stretch is a vital cog in a QB’s play. He has to improve in this regards.
June 21st, 2011 at 7:57 am
Our D seemed to stop more 3rd and 1’s this past year than I can ever remember.
I had more confidence in our D stopping a 3rd and 1 than I did a 3rd and 4.
June 21st, 2011 at 8:03 am
Kamerion Wimbley = non-existant in the Jax game in the second half
Quinton Groves = garbage. A 5 years younger version of Sam Williams. All ST, should not be on the field much defensively
Jarvis Moss = one trick pony (speed rush off the edge)
Ricky Brown = ST player only, and not even a very good one at that.
I am concerned with our OLB’s. Hopefully Goethel is the answer, but he wasn’t all that impressive either.
June 21st, 2011 at 8:07 am
Can we look at the play together right now JFB?
June 21st, 2011 at 8:08 am
I live in Jax and missed that game last year because i was working out of town. I’m still pissed i missed that game. I was listening on the radio and when i heard Run DMC rip that run up sideline i thought that we had all the momentum to finally win easy on the east coast. Boy was i wrong! The Jags are beatable, they tend to beat themselves 9-10 times. Their O line is horrible, false starts etc… Gerard takes a beating!
Anyway i feel we should have won that game and 1 step closer to the playoffs although i doubt we wouldn’t have gone deep in the playoffs.
June 21st, 2011 at 8:10 am
wow, the final episodes of ‘The Killing’ was great, though the finale was a bit disappointing…
June 21st, 2011 at 8:13 am
There was nowhere to step up since Walker got beat so bad on an inside move by the DE. He was right at his feet. Veldheer also got beat.
Saddest thing about that play to me was the fact that we kept McFadden and Miller in the backfield for a max protect, and we still couldn’t handle a THREE MAN RUSH!
LMFAO!
June 21st, 2011 at 8:18 am
Not sure why Walker gets such a pass in here.
Terrible pass-blocker, lots of penalties, and injury-prone to boot.
Addition by subtraction!!
June 21st, 2011 at 8:20 am
Pass protection wasn’t bad on the play. Not great, but everyone knew he was throwing, so the rushers pinned their ears back.
——————————————————
DE beat Veldheer to the outside and was on Campbell as soon as he set up.
Walker got beat just as bad to the inside.
Pass protection broke down right away on a play where all the routes were down the field.
I get the feeling that had he thrown it away, you’d be killing the guy for not having the stones to just try and make a play.
I think it’s just that I don’t expect much from ANY QB who has to deal with constant pressure and hits. Our pass protection has been so bad the past few years, it’s been laughable. I think at one point the consensus around the league is we had the WORST pair of OTs in the league.
June 21st, 2011 at 8:22 am
Addition by subtraction!!
——————————————————
I said the same thing yesterday.
Gallery and Walker being gone = we will be better.
Power scheme over ZBS = we will be better.
June 21st, 2011 at 8:28 am
Kamerion Wimbley = non-existant in the Jax game in the second half
——————————————————-
Wimbley and Groves should go back to DE full time.
I know that means my boy ShoNasty gets the short end of the stick, but maybe we can trade some guys for picks next year.
Houston-Kelly-Seymour-Wimbley = starters
Bryant-Houston-Henderson-ShoNasty/Groves = Backups
OLB should be Howard and Goethel. Might even need to pick up a FA.
June 21st, 2011 at 8:30 am
No doubt Soup is getting dealt a difficult hand at times with the pass protection. But he isn’t the only guy in the league with such issues.
Big Ben turns lemons into lemonade every week, and in the biggest of moments.
Can I just get one week of that from Soup to give me hope?? Make a crucial, difficult play where he bails out the O-line and rips the heart out of the defense in the 4th quarter.
Instead, he is full of panic. And the 3rd down play right before the last two plays? He wasted 25 dire seconds to get 4 yards!!! He is just not comfortable in those situations, at least not yet.
June 21st, 2011 at 8:31 am
J,
No Desmond Bryant in your rotation??
He played a lot in the Jax game at DE, and was pretty damn effective.
June 21st, 2011 at 8:40 am
Bryant backs up Houston at DE
June 21st, 2011 at 8:42 am
Glo is not Big Ben.
He is not going to have DEs bouncing off of him, reloading and making a play.

June 21st, 2011 at 8:51 am
Don’t mean to change the subject fellas, but speaking of Pitt…I noticed they stated that they would cut Randel El to make room for Burress at a reasonable price.
I know Al may be set at WR but would you bring this guy in if the price is right? I know Oak is trying to clean up the image and all but he’s a big red zone target and great at jump balls.
June 21st, 2011 at 8:54 am
No other safety got close to the 17 tackles missed by Pro-Bowler Michael Griffin. The Titans’ safety did rack up his share of tackles, but even so, he missed one in every seven attempts and thoroughly tested the team’s faith in the “safety” aspect of his play. This was not a vintage year for Griffin despite somehow – inexplicably – being voted to the Pro-Bowl. He is clearly capable of big performances and quality play, but you can’t survive long in this league missing tackles at that rate or with the sheer number of misses he had last season – those cause too may big plays.
On the other hand, some players saw a marked improvement in form from ’09 to 2010. Michael Huff’s grade shot up with the Raiders finally playing to his strengths, not forcing him into a role that didn’t suit him. Playing much more as the deep safety last season, Huff was able to use his range to far greater effect and looked like a different player. What’s interesting is that playing in space like that improved his missed tackle rate too. Missing one in 8.6 attempts in 2009, Huff was able to stretch that to one in 16.2 this season, despite a larger number of tackling attempts.
June 21st, 2011 at 9:02 am
I don’t get the Huff bashing.
June 21st, 2011 at 9:09 am
If Huff improves as much in 11 as he did in 10 he will be a pro bowler. Hopefully we find a way to keep him and let him learn from Woodson.
June 21st, 2011 at 9:14 am
Its still insanely maddening that we consistantly hold running backs to 3.3ypc or less, but still find a way to give up 10-13 plays of more than 60 yards. You take away that 1 play every game and we go from 29th in rush def to top 5. Its the same problem for years. It is lack of discipline by all 11 guys on the field. Its the same thing in our pass defense too. We rank in the top 3 in pass defense, but bottom 3 in passing TDs allowed. It tells me that our defensive woes are not scheme or personal but discipline. These guys need to play EVERY play.

You don’t have to tell me about ShoNasty.
Point is Wimbley is a better pass rusher than he is. Wimbley could easily get 5 more sacks if he played the position full time.
Wimbley as a 4-3 OLB, a position he played for the first time in his career last year, is not very good at it. Total waste of his talents to have him trying to cover TEs and OLBs. He was just OK against the run.

OLBs are expected to cover RBs and TEs no matter what defense the team is playing. Are you suggesting it’s an Al Davis thing to have his OLBs in pass coverage?
June 21st, 2011 at 10:13 am
Jhill I’m going to have to disagree on this one I’d rather keep #77 there and use Kam as a 3rd down edge rusher. Two reasons I think it keeps him fresher if he’s not taking on the LT every snap and he seems to be our best SLB. Also we have JMoss who I think can be an outstanding edge rusher who’s coming into his own I really like what I saw from that kid last year. I’ve waiting on a kid with his skill set since Burgess was here. We kind of lucked out getting both those kids in one season.
June 21st, 2011 at 10:20 am
Everyone knows I’m a big ShoNasty guy. Pointed him out as a playa after like one preseason game.
I think the main thing is I’m not impressed with Wimbley’s LB skills. To say he is our best SLB isn’t saying much. Heck, he may be the only SLB on the roster.
Wimbley was franchised because of his abilities as an edge rusher, not his LB skills. As a matter of fact, I’ve often wondered why we don’t let him rush the passer from his LB spot? Keep him at OLB in you must, but he should NEVER be in pass coverage. Especially in man to man.

I agree with Sporting News I don’t think we take Pryor in the supp. draft. We don’t have enough picks for next year. He is not a pure QB and based on what JC does we may or may not need a new QB. I watched Pryor play through his whole career at OSU and besides his speed and strength at the college level, his passing accuracy and ugly throwing motion never moved me at all. Troy Smith was a more natural passer a game manager.
In college Troy was just a man playing with boys.

YoungAmerican stop now. Bryant a 290 lb NT in 4-3 scheme? Never
June 21st, 2011 at 10:48 am
Keep Wimbley right where he is at SAM. We need a WILL very bad
June 21st, 2011 at 10:52 am
Cooper Carlisle a savage? Lol dont make me laugh. Sure he better than Gallery but Coop is a zbs guard. You guys are delusional thinking he will be a force at LG in power scheme

Damn, who the heck figures Carlisle ar LG?
June 21st, 2011 at 10:54 am
Shonasty is a full time DE. Wimbley is a situational PR DE. Nobody on our LB corp is impressive at all. Romac has no speed. Wimbley and Scott are both situational pass rushers rather than full time LB. They can’t cover. Grove is ok but nothing outstanding. Nobody can shed a blocker consistently to maintain the integrity of our man2man defense.
June 21st, 2011 at 10:57 am
Kell….you may not wanna believe it but right now plan is Veldheer Carlisle Wiz Campbell Barksdale for oline…….was told by a Raider employee
June 21st, 2011 at 10:57 am
Bryant would take over Seymour’s role. Houston is shorter and a little heftier so he’d fit better than Bryant when playing over center – he already started attracting double-teams as a rookie. But remember, the Raiders don’t use a traditional NT in the majority of their packages. Seymour and Kelly are both supposed to be pass rushers first and foremost. Henderson is rotated in.
As long as the Raiders play defense the way Al wants to, even if they acquire an NT (and that’s a big if) he’ll be a situational player just like Henderson is.
June 21st, 2011 at 10:58 am
Carlisle is 295 lbs lol…..A power scheme LG at that size? Al and company cant be serious
June 21st, 2011 at 10:58 am
Wow.
June 21st, 2011 at 10:59 am
holyschcyyyyttt…2/3 of the Oline are first year starters. JC better buy extra life insurance.
June 21st, 2011 at 10:59 am

Most SLB’s aren’t great in coverage there biggest responsibility is to hold the edge he great at it. We were horrible over there until we put him there, remember two years ago when the niners just ran over the side over and over again.
June 21st, 2011 at 11:01 am
3 new guys on the O-line with no OTA’s
June 21st, 2011 at 11:01 am
YoungAmerican thats not winning football! Bryant is too small to be a base UT and Houston too small to be a base NT. YA we running same D from ten years ago with Grady and Sam at NT. Al stubbornly keeping Kelly out there knowing damn well he is a rotational player
June 21st, 2011 at 11:03 am
Yeah Kell….u see my concern without two vet big guards now?
June 21st, 2011 at 11:05 am
YA….hendu should be starting plain and simple. His track record speaks volumes. His defenses always stopped the run. This is fkin stupid
June 21st, 2011 at 11:06 am
Hendu is leaking oil.
June 21st, 2011 at 11:06 am

I really like the improved communication between Krappy and his grandson Brian the Genital. Great work fellas, the Kelly Thanksgiving is going to rock this year!
NBA draft only a few days away, waiting for the ball to drop on the Gasol, Artest for Love, #2 pick, Flynn trade. I’ll be celebrating that on my Reggae Party Boat with a few extra shrimp cocktails.
Speaking of partying serious style, any of you losers checking out the hot new Weird Al joint? He’s wrecking Lady Gaga like Krappy wrecks his diapers.
MO FLY = MO CASH
June 21st, 2011 at 11:07 am
Kell i keep yellin for Duece Lutui for RG. Been in big games in college and pros. Can pass block vs UTs and can run block well. 6′4 338 lbs would help our rookies. Campbell at RG? For what?
June 21st, 2011 at 11:07 am
YoungAmerican thats not winning football! Bryant is too small to be a base UT and Houston too small to be a base NT. YA we running same D from ten years ago with Grady and Sam at NT. Al stubbornly keeping Kelly out there knowing damn well he is a rotational player
————
Not disagreeing with you there. I’d love to see the Raiders put more emphasis on gap discipline, clog the run (especially in the middle) and allow the linebackers to blitz more. I’m not holding out hope for that, though.
Grady and Sam were big guys, but under Waufle the pass rush has always been the primary concern for defensive linemen. Both Grady and Sam were stronger against the run than Kelly, though. Even then, those teams gave up their fair share of rushing yards. Fewer big plays, though.
June 21st, 2011 at 11:07 am
TK is a damn good player and Seymour is simple one of the best 3techs in the game. In our scheme I’ll take Kelly over most 1techs he has tremendous strength in his upperbody and is more athletic than a lot of them and gets great push up the middle. IMO that tandem is in the top 5 in the league. Contrary to popular belief in here which doesn’t count our Dline is one of the best in the league………..period
June 21st, 2011 at 11:08 am
Kell if he is leakin….then Kelly’s engine is blown
June 21st, 2011 at 11:10 am
Hahahahahahaha BHP that post was funny. TK is not good
June 21st, 2011 at 11:10 am
People are of the impression that FAT is better than strength and athleticism I’d much rather have a powerful athletic player than a fat guy who stands there and plays the run for 30 downs a game.
June 21st, 2011 at 11:11 am
BHP….teams double Seymour more….He is playing the NT spot. It took Raiders not too long to seee Kelly cant play NT spot just like 2006! Remember that?
June 21st, 2011 at 11:12 am
Bauce you’re trippin’ son very few teams were able to block TK run or pass in some games he was flat out dominant. I don’t know what film you’re looking at but you can’t find many players who play his position better than he does. YOU JUST DON’T UNDERSTAND THE SCHEME…
June 21st, 2011 at 11:12 am
BHP you mean you dont care about stopping the run? Ok I got it
June 21st, 2011 at 11:13 am
The problems the Raiders have had stopping the run stem mostly from the scheme, not the players themselves.
June 21st, 2011 at 11:14 am
Srymour doesn’t nor has he EVER played NT there is no NT in this scheme he played DE and 3tech his entire career.
June 21st, 2011 at 11:15 am
BHP that bs I damn sure understand the scheme and at games Im callin their bullschyt out play after play in front of the ppl in the stands! Its the same fkin scheme we seen from al’s 4-3!
June 21st, 2011 at 11:15 am
Stopping the run is ONLY half the battle stopping the passer is MORE important IMO………..something you seem to ignore.
June 21st, 2011 at 11:17 am
BHP that’s a damn lie…..Seymour was our starter at NT last season. Even the coach acknowledged the NT position so you are wrong! Seymour played 5 tech most of his career! There is no 3 tech in 3-4!
June 21st, 2011 at 11:20 am
Hahahaha really Bhp? Stoppin pass is so important and run is nada I see. No wonder our good pass D rankings have led us to top D in league year after year
June 21st, 2011 at 11:22 am
Stopping run is only half the battle? So its 50 pct you say? So how is stopping pass more important with 50 pct left in the job? Interesting
June 21st, 2011 at 11:23 am
You’re looking for a NT in a 3/4 scheme and I can’t get you to understand that is a very different scheme requiring different players.
Why do you think Haynesworth as big as he is DOESN’T want to play NT it’s for a reason they get KILLED they never know which OG is going to hit them from what angle. We don’t use that technigue at all……….TK is a 1tech and he plays it at a very high level.
You’re asking for a PF in basketball instead of a SF very different responsibilities.
June 21st, 2011 at 11:23 am
The problem with stopping the run is execution not schemes. Guys get beat or miss tackles cant shed blockers and that is the issue.
June 21st, 2011 at 11:24 am
Bauce stopping the pass is more important because that is how teams score more scores per game than running. Yes you have to be efficient vs the run but if you can’t stop the QB you’re going to get blitzed…………period
June 21st, 2011 at 11:24 am
TK and Seymour are both very powerful guys. True they’re not playing 2 gap techniques.
But, the Raiders are not getting gashed every down, they just give up the big-play. I think because the DB’s have their backs turned.
June 21st, 2011 at 11:24 am
And TK IS NOT DAMN GOOD! I just watched the jacksonville game and he got worked all day just like Titans game, Texans game and many others in his pathetic career
June 21st, 2011 at 11:27 am
The way the back seven are expected to play and the way the front four are expected to play are not compatible, is the problem.
When your front four are primarily pass rushers, and the back seven all have their backs turned to the LOS, you’re going to get gashed for big plays.
June 21st, 2011 at 11:28 am
No the fk Im not looking at the fkin 3-4! We run a 4-3. The NT in most cases lines up next to the RDE on the weakside. The LG and C is who he normally deals with when teams run it
June 21st, 2011 at 11:28 am
Bauce didn’t you see what happened to the Steelers in the SB? They’re played the run well and got killed. GB dropped 2 TD passes and still bombed the Steelers. You have to have a balanced defense, we have to get betetr vs the run yes but we don’t need some 2gap player to do it.
June 21st, 2011 at 11:29 am
TK powerful? Not vs run. As soon as double team comes he is invisible. Hope he gets a high ankle sprain in august
June 21st, 2011 at 11:31 am
Bauce bruh that is NOT a NT man lol ask any coach a true NT lines up over the CENTER.
In a 4/3 the 1tech is between C and G which is the Agap the 3tech lines up in the Bgap between G an LT. It’s a very different alignment and acheme than a 3/4………….ask any Dline coach or player.
June 21st, 2011 at 11:31 am
Green Bay wanted it that game….hell they wanted it all season. Still Pitt had ball in Big Ben’s hands just like last super bowl
June 21st, 2011 at 11:32 am
A Double-Team leaves somebody else to make a play.
June 21st, 2011 at 11:33 am
And GB DOESNT RUN THE BALL they are a passing team and Pitts cbs sucks…..no shhhhhht!
June 21st, 2011 at 11:33 am
Haha Buace you’re crazy man man, do you know what that would do to this team? It would send us into a mad scramble for a replacement. You just don’t understand how pivotal TK is….
June 21st, 2011 at 11:34 am
Kell they double on Kelly push his sorry ass into linebackers or the C or G get to 2nd level. It happens all the time

morning nation!! morning brien bauce,666, old kell
June 21st, 2011 at 11:36 am
I haven’t seen the D-Line pushed around, myself. I’ve seen Mcclain locked up though because a Guard on him.
June 21st, 2011 at 11:36 am
Lol BHP….all the time I watched Raider NTs line up over center! Im in north endzone on field level Im watching it not from a damn TV
June 21st, 2011 at 11:37 am
That’s exactly what I mean pressure on the QB and DB’s that can cover is more important than some fatass DT for 25 snaps and game and then you have to resusitate his ass for 15 minutes
June 21st, 2011 at 11:37 am
Kell….how does that guard get on RoBeast? Thanks
June 21st, 2011 at 11:37 am
No, I haven’t seen the D-Line manhandled.
June 21st, 2011 at 11:38 am

June 21st, 2011 at 11:39 am
RoMac just has to fill faster, last year he took time learning give him a chance to get his game on.
June 21st, 2011 at 11:39 am
remember two years ago when the niners just ran over the side over and over again.
—————————————————–
Yeah, that was pathetic.
June 21st, 2011 at 11:40 am
BHP….At least you can resusitate Hendu…..Kelly and Seymour as DT combo are dead vs run
June 21st, 2011 at 11:41 am
I’ll say this for RoMac at least he’ll take on blockers instead of running around h=them like Pat Willis who doesn’t want to be touched.
June 21st, 2011 at 11:41 am
Jhill pathetic? You must have watched the Texans game hahahahaha
June 21st, 2011 at 11:41 am
The linemen don’t occupy blockers. They shed them trying to get to the ball carrier. When the ball carrier gets past the defensive line, the offensive linemen are out in front picking off the linebackers who are in man coverage.
Which is why it’s extra important that Wimbley, McClain, Goethel and Groves all improve dramatically at block-shedding. Or the defensive line improves at diagnosing the play. Hopefully both…
June 21st, 2011 at 11:42 am
Good Morning Taz
Priestt…RoMac needs to shed blockers quicker to be more effective against the run.
June 21st, 2011 at 11:42 am
No, I haven’t seen the D-Line manhandled in 2010.
June 21st, 2011 at 11:43 am
The RoBeast is cool….he needs some real Dawgs to play in front of him so he can be a force like Biekert was
June 21st, 2011 at 11:43 am
Buace come dawg thos etwo are hard to replace they’re the best tandem we’ve had in several years. Get the rest of this defense on board and we’ll have something.

I think he played on his heels a lot last year instead of playing downhill. Thinking instead of playing. I’m hoping he takes a big step forward this year in that area.
OLBs???
If we could find a way to keep Wimbley out of pass coverage then I guess I’m fine with what we have.
June 21st, 2011 at 11:43 am

June 21st, 2011 at 11:43 am

The players will reportedly receive 48 percent of “all revenue” under the framework of the labor deal currently being discussed.
NFLPA chief DeMaurice Smith insists the players only saw 53 percent of the revenues under the previous agreement, though 60 percent is the number most commonly cited. Either way, it’s obvious that the NFLPA has lost quite a bit of leverage the past couple of months. Both sides are counting on increased revenue from a 16-game Thursday night schedule due to begin in 2012. The proposed deal does include a rookie wage scale, though it’s still being “tweaked.” The new league year is still expected to begin in mid-July. Source: ESPN.com Jun 21, 1:39 PMPlayer Outlook
Report: Four-year veterans to be unrestricted ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports all players with at least four years of service time will be unrestricted free agents under the labor agreement currently being discussed.
This had been the expected outcome as long as a new CBA was reached as opposed to a court-ordered short-term fix. The new free agency rules will affect upwards of 500 players, which should lead to a frenzy in late July after an agreement is reached. DeAngelo Williams, Ahmad Bradshaw, Joseph Addai, Sidney Rice, Santonio Holmes, Steve Smith (NYG), and Zach Miller are the major fantasy names affected.

Al stubbornly keeping Kelly out there knowing damn well he is a rotational player
——————————————————-
I’d agree with this.
Kelly should be in a roation with Seymour and Henderson. The 3 of them form a pretty solid DT unit. Henderson would have played a lot more if he were healthy.

In the game we all just watched against Jax, with the game in balance needing a TD in the 4th, but in opposing territory, Hue dialed up back-to-back running plays, right behind my man Cooper Carlisle.
First one got 4 yards and softened them up, second one D-Mac housed it (and Carlisle got a hat on two guys).
Hue Jackson does not buy into your anti-Carlisle propaganda.

You know I’m just f’n with you (old inside JHill joke) on watching the games.
I think we ran a lot of combo ZBS and power, hybrid stuff last year. Straight ahead power football, with one or two lineman/TE going 2nd level and diving at guys legs ZBS-style.
Whatever it was, it worked, and we need to do it again next year.
June 21st, 2011 at 11:52 am

I’m probably considered a Cable supporter in here, but that was disgraceful.

June 21st, 2011 at 11:58 am

We need to just figure ways to get D-Mac in space and let him do the rest.
We can go power mostly, but we aren’t going to outpower the Pitts and GB’s of the world anyways, so might as well through some exotic stuff at them and be creative.
Hue described his theory on this. Sprinkling in some ZBS and other stuff into a mostly power scheme. That’s what we did last year, and Carlisle was the only 16 game starter at O-line.

——————————————————
This is a fact!
We had a GREAT film session in here a few years back on this exact point. Well, actaully it was about how our LBs lineup in terms of the strong side weak side argument. Remember that SnB, lol?
Terdell Sands always lines up directly over the C and I could never understand why we did that. There was a natural hole on the line that always seemed to get exploited. Even with that big fat run stuffing Sands in there.
I think that is the DUMBEST alignment we run.
June 21st, 2011 at 12:02 pm
I got credentials from the Raider Nation as the “Preist of the Black Hole”. It started with me and the homies…………..period
Bauce listen you’re too sharp of a Raider fan to be ignoraning the obvious for a few biases. I know you wnat a NT but in this scheme you wont see one. They stop the run on their way to the QB the same as the NYG’s when they won it all. The backend (back7) has to fill gaps and tackle that’s how we stop the run.
June 21st, 2011 at 12:02 pm
Imo, Carlisle replacing Gallery at LG is a step down.
Gallery has some power, and he’s a bulldog. And worked well with the rookie.
Carlisle is a RG and and a ZBS RG at that.

Pass-blocking is usually where youth struggles the most on the O-line as well.
Wiz didn’t play 15 games of center his whole collegiate career. Starting opening night for a guy who hasn’t played center in over a year, a RG who never started a game there before (B Campbell) and maybe even Barksdale at RT is just crazy to think that there won’t be some serious growing pains.

Carlisle wont play another down for us. I’d be shocked if a made the team. He is a smart guy and rarely makes mistakes but what their getting ready to do is knock the crap outta people and he’s a cut blocker he wont survive.

One of our DEs didn’t standup. It was 4 guys with their hand in the ground and 3 LBs.
What do you mean by a 3-4 look?

June 21st, 2011 at 12:31 pm
We don’t have anywhere near the personnel to be “knocking people back” on our O-line.
Wiz was a finesse player in college, Veldheer looks more like a power forward than an OT, and of course Carlisle and his dreaded 295lb frame.
Al Davis has not molded his O-line to “knock people out”. He has molded it to out think you.

Jhill whenever we shift to 3/4 the 1tech will shift making the 3tech a DE in affect making the DE essentially a LB’er it’s a n answer to whatever the Oline is doing against them or to take advantage of the speed at RDE and take him off the LT. It just something they do to give the Oline a different look.
It’s very simple if you have a DE that can drop or rush it works sort of like a zone blitz.
June 21st, 2011 at 12:37 pm
If and when an agreement is reached, all players whose contracts have expired and have four or more years of experience are expected to be unrestricted free agents, sources familiar with the talks told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. Certain tags will be retained but that still is being discussed.

June 21st, 2011 at 12:45 pm
JFB I think you’re wrong about that it’s not about size as much as it is attitude and ability. Size is good on the Oline more than the Dline. We have some huge athletic Olineman I agree about Wiz and said so many times prior to the draft when everyone was going gaga over him. He’s not what you call a roadgrader so he has to do it the way his unc did it with brute strength. Steve wasn’t very big but he was mean as hell and extremely strong. Everybody else has the ability to play power game. Veldheer has the mentality he needs to add 20+ lbs. but he has what it takes.

Absolutely correct.
Just saying, if your expecting him to come in and push people around and be a road-grader, that isn’t his game.
He is tough and a techninician with great footwork, and much better in pass-protection than run-blocking.
June 21st, 2011 at 12:54 pm
Off the current subject. Not sure if anyone saw this about the CBA.
From Adam Schefter’s Facebook:
“More at ESPN: If and when agreement is reached, all players with 4, 5 and 6 years of service are expected to be unrestricted free agents.”
June 21st, 2011 at 12:55 pm
The older I get the obsession gets worse. Im not coming off of it BHP, Jhill,VR and Kell! We need big mean nasty players who can play and beat other elite players. Becuz winning that one on one matchup or beating double team is how u do it under our style
June 21st, 2011 at 12:55 pm
Its still insanely maddening that we consistantly hold running backs to 3.3ypc or less, but still find a way to give up 10-13 plays of more than 60 yards. You take away that 1 play every game and we go from 29th in rush def to top 5. Its the same problem for years. It is lack of discipline by all 11 guys on the field. Its the same thing in our pass defense too. We rank in the top 3 in pass defense, but bottom 3 in passing TDs allowed. It tells me that our defensive woes are not scheme or personal but discipline. These guys need to play EVERY play.

Love the debate about what caused the loss vs. the Titans.
Here’s my take, without the benefit of rewatching the game.
Defense was doing a good job stopping CJ. 99% of you guys agree VY can’t pass…
So how did the Raids get beat like a pinata ?
I’ll tell you how.
The Raider QB was not only tipping pass plays, he was doing it with an offensive line in front of him that looked like swiss cheese.
And this QB, in his first game as a Raider, showed that he would piss his pants in the face of a formidable pass rush – and that he was gutless wussy when he slid 2 yards short of an easily attainable first down. Do I even have to mention ‘the kneel’ in the same game ?
When you’ve got a QB that’s tipping plays, pissing his pants, showing no heart – and an OL getting whupped, it’s not surprising that the Raids didn’t put up points and eventually the Defense gets it’s heart ripped out and the avalanche ensues.
That’s what happened.
And it happened again in Pitt.
Hell, it was happening again the following week against St Louis at home.
Which is why Hue yanked JaJason. And rightfully so.

Bo and Marcus lasted a whole 4 years together, and Al tried to run Marcus out of town.
Not the best analogy.
I think Al will have to overpay to keep Bush. If another team is offering Bush the same bread, and with a chance to be the #1 RB, he will not think twice.

RAIDERMAN99…Jason Campbell had his problems but I think you’re being a little too hard on the dude. He has had very little consistency in his career as an NFL QB which has to be the hardest position to play. Even with his second year at Oakland, this year, he’s getting a new offensive coordinator. Ya, he’s worked with the dude before, but it’s still new changes. What
I guess I’m trying to say is the dude will get better and we could be doing a lot worse. If we can strengthen our offensive line, improve our receiving core, starting with Heywood-Bey getting separation and catching the ball, with Chaz staying healthy, then our passing and running games will surely improve. I see improvement ahead. I see Jason having a good year.
June 21st, 2011 at 10:30 pm
Agree 707. NFL D-coordinators are smart enough to know that a new QB with young WRs and a beat up OL in a new system will have a limited amount of options and adjustments in their passing game. Stop the run then let the dogs loose.
Campbell’s best games were when the running game worked well, as expected given the situation.
When was the last time you went into watching a Raiders’ game thinking, “our WRs are better than their DBs?”
To become a playoff team year 2, he will have to step up (along with the WRs) and pass to win some games with low team rushing yds.
Chaz is the key to spread the field and move the chains.
If DHB still isn’t ready, don’t sleep on Denarius Moore.
