Bush a restricted free agent

The NFL has confirmed that Raiders running back Michael Bush is a restricted free agent, which therefore gives the Raiders a certain amount of protection against losing him to another team.

The Raiders offered Bush a one-year tender in March. As a restricted free agent, other teams are free to offer Bush a contract. If that happens, the Raiders have the right to match the offer or receive a first-round draft pick as compensation.

The Raiders selected Bush with the first pick of the fourth round in the 2007 NFL draft. Getting a first-round pick in return for losing Bush would be pretty sweet compensation.

Just the same, that’s a pretty steep price to pay and points to the Raiders getting back Bush for this season, if not longer.

The league’s decision to not count Bush’s rookie season — he sat out while recovering from a broken leg he suffered at Louisville — is a boon to the Raiders. It’s a blow to Bush from the standpoint that he can’t reap the riches as an unrestricted free agent, which requires four accrued seasons.

Teams and UDFAs can only reach agreements in principle tonight. Can’t sign until tomorrow.

The last few seasons Raider UDFA signings were available at the same time as every other team’s.

  • priesttj

Armond that is your first clue that the Raiders have talked to him if he’s NOT talking…LOL

Via ESPN’s John Clayton, here are those teams, and the amount by which they’re over the cap.

    Oakland Raiders: $14.9 million over
    Dallas Cowboys: $13.9 million over
    Pittsburgh Steelers: $10.3 million over
New York Giants: $6.1 million over
    Minnesota Vikings: $4.3 million over
    Indianapolis Colts: $1.8 million over
    Baltimore Ravens: $1.8 million over

If the Raiders are really 14.9 mil over the cap then this team is in trouble.

No wonder Al Davis voted against the CBA.

The Raiders abstained from voting, they didn’t vote against it.

Technically they’re only $8 million over because there’s roughly $6 million in salary cap leeway so teams can re-sign veterans. But it’s still a concern.

If Carlisle is indeed cut, then the Raiders would be around $6 million over. Then it would be a matter of re-structuring some contracts, and signing Wimbley to a long-term deal ASAP.

    What? ?????

Here we go again with another season of football ladies and gentlemen. Look real close and watch the Raiders blow thru the gates this year like never before. Coach Davis and his band of Silver and Black Pirates will be off to an 8-0 start before the league even has a chance to collect their hapless breath.

Coach Jackson is going to do exactly what he was hired to do: Bring the Raiders back to greatness. Yes everybody this season will be like none other as Coach Davis keeps his players like Bush and ZMiller and has given up on the useless free agents like he once had coveted.

As Coach Davis remains ahead of the pack look for Coach to trade his first round picks to aquire great playuhs like Seymour and others to come.

This year is going to be all about the Raiders because when the Oakland Raiders are prospering, everybody prospers, the tarnished image of the NFL prospers, the brutal image the owners suffered for locking out the playahs. Every prospers because Coach Davis sets the table and is generous with his givings.

Ladies and gentlemen, where would football be with out Al Davis and the Raiders. When Al Davis and the Raiders are kicking arses all over the league, Coach will remember who laughed at him and let his arse rot. Coach will remember.

Are you ready for some football! Bring it on and lets roll.

Did you guys hear the crap Charles Davis just said on NFLN they went to that idiot on the Raiders draft and all he talked about was their moronic mantra that the Raiders love speed. As if no one else likes it. Did speak on whether the kids could play……………probably because he’s too damn lazy to find out.

I’m starting get sick of these fools on NFLN they’re just like the cement heads on ESPN.

    6-10 or 5-11 at worst.

That cap stuff has already been figured out months ago they just couldn’t execute it. Now they get done with the academics the decisio have been made for months.

  • YoungAmerican

My money is on another 8-8 season.

Raiders have to find a long-term solution at QB and consistency on defense to be a real contender.

  • http://spies_are_us.yeah! 007

There are many spies in here from other teams looking to steal information on who we want in the free agent market. Becareful not to think to loud because we don’t want other teams grabbing the players we want.

    Now go and run along.

  • http://www.aldavissucks.blogspot.com RAIDER

More like, spies from other teams are here to take a break, and have a laugh at whatever Al Davis is up to.

How can the Raiders be 15 mil over the cap with 2 or 3 good players on the entire team? My goodness.

  • http://www.aldavissucks.blogspot.com RAIDER

Al Davis is really proving he can run a team without Ron Wolf or Jon Gruden. 15 million over the cap, 3 good players to show for it. Al couldn’t handle a Madden franchise on the all-pro level, let alone an actual NFL team today.

  • YoungAmerican

OT David Mims to the Chiefs.

  • Born with a Patch

Tafur says they are 10 mil over… i need to see a breakdown cause there are too many different numbers coming out. first we were at 85.5 million and now it’s 134… we shall see

  • http://raidersforever.com Raiders Forever

Raiders are not 15mil over the cap.
    Try 6 under.
    FIGURE IT OUT!

  • http://raidersforever.com Raiders Forever

Man, if you do NOT have a good accountant who can CRUNCH cap numbers, you have NO BUSINESS in the league. Al Davis can be ANYWHERE he wants to be with the cap. ANYWHERE.

    FIGURE IT OUT!

  • priesttj

It’s Mike Mayock and his anti-Raider propaganda and Charles Davis follows him like a puppy dog. They can speak on any other team with some degree of decorum but when it comes to the Raiders it’s that ignorant ass H/W/S crap just tak about the players and try to be respectful of the kids they drafted…………but that’s too much like right!

  • http://raidersforever.com Raiders Forever

All this cap bs. have you ever seen a team not be able to get on the field because of cap numbers? whats the bfd with cap numbers?

Now run off and go get me an aluminum magnet please, pronto.

Charles Davis watched Denarius Moore’s career but instead of telling us what he thinks he acts like teh rets of the media and spouts off like a buffoon.

This is exactly why I like YA’s comments. I don’t exactly agree with the .500 but QB and D are real issues. I sure would like to see the Raider pick up one of the OL that YA has mentioned also.

  • http://www.aldavissucks.blogspot.com RAIDER

With the talent the Raiders have right now, they should about about 50 million UNDER the cap. Not even close to the cap, let alone 10 + over. Just another sign this team is being run by someone whose cheese fell of the cracker.

  • http://raidersforever.com Raiders Forever

People, especially you talking heads, all you got on Al Davis is he is over the cap? Really, THATS ALL YOU GOT?
Go out and buy a clue and stuff it where the sun don’t shine.

And while your at, get me a couple of pounds of salt water frogs.

  • priesttj

The only people who know for sure about the capo aint talking so to worry about where we are is pointless just be concerned about who we sign. because trying to keep up money wise is hopeless.

  • armond

priest ive been sayin that about ebony and ivory for a while now. charles davis is his little ebony doll that just goes along with everything he says. moore can play and so can jones. when the season starts all of these jackazzez will see. they make me sick which is why i dont watch as much anymore. an old school raider fan that i go to games with taught me that. he doesnt even watch the the local news anymore.

  • Born with a Patch

i’m not worried about whether or not we’ll be under the cap. i just want to know how much money we will have to shop with

  • raiderfankirk

    MMMMMMMMMMMMMMRRRRRRRRRRRR? PS3?

  • http://raidersforever.com Raiders Forever

Al Davis can shop with ALL the money he needs BWAP. He has GREAT cpa’s on his payroll. He has GREAT attorneys who can navigate thru the GARBAGE the league calls cap rules. It is a ploy to keep the STUPID teams down. So to answer you question, Al has ALL THE MONEY HE NEEDS TO GET WHOMEVER HE WANTS! So rest easy, its all good.

  • priesttj

Here we drafted kids who started and were the better players on the best college programs in the country and all Mayock and Davis can say is “they run fast”. They started at PennSt, Miami, Tenn, Ohis St, LSU, and some played well at USC and the other kid was a super star at EWash yet the only thing they focus on is the run fast. Mayock nearly fell over laughing at JFord last year and he ate every word.

  • Born with a Patch

Anybody been to Lambeau??? thats the game i wanna try to make… Legendary field, december, my b day, a Raider W hopefully…

  • priesttj

Armond it’s sickening man they are really truning me against them. If they can’t treat us like the treat the rest of the league then to hell with ‘em I’m done.

  • raiderfankirk

So many rookie fa’s and how the hell do you figure out who can play in a month without pads? These are the kids screwed by the whole mess. A couple of stars won’t be signed by anyone.

  • priesttj

They find a way to keep talent eventhough the great evaluators will clean up this year because teams will cut some very good players because they just didn’t get a chance to see if they could play. With this Lockout every team really needed at least 5 preseason games. This year the 4th preseason game will count bigtimeit wont be a foregone conclusion like most years.

  • armond

it shows me they dont really study the raiders. fugg em all. they give detroit all this damn credit cuz they won their last 4 games just to win 6. cant wait for the season to start. non stop football for the rest of the year and every week counts. no excuses. dmc all pro and leads the league in total yards, dhb better come out and ball. i expect jc to step and lead this team. that defense better stop people. no more fuggin excuses. we need to win to shut all these fuggers up.i got into some arguments with a weak minded whiny raider fan and a dumb fukk who dont have a team. im sick of this sh!t. im ready to fight over this now. we need to win SO I CAN TALK SH!T!!!!!!!!!

  • Born with a Patch

i’m on that level Armond… feel like knockin heads

  • AngryBird

I do believe this is gonna be one fine Oaktown team this year. Mr. Davis done did right when he dumped Cable boy.

Mr. Davis done did right again when he joined Hue Jackson to the team. Outright smart move, it was. Brilliant I’d say.

Mr. Davis was prepared for the lockout better than any other pathetic team owner out there. Now the free agents are his for the pickin.

But I dont really think Mr. Davis gonna be goin after to many free agents, cause he just gonna be bringin his own boys up thru the system. So people dont be gettin your hopes up for any free agents.

Now that this useless lockout is a done deal, I’m sure the NFL can get to work and clean up their messy ugly image they made siding with the owners.
