OT Barksdale signs; all draftees under contract

By Steve Corkran
Thursday, July 28th, 2011 at 2:55 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Rookie offensive lineman Joseph Barksdale just Tweeted that he signed a contract with the Raiders.

That closes the book on the eight players the Raiders drafted in April. Running back Taiwan Jones and wide receiver Denarius Moore signed Wednesday. Cornerbacks DeMarcus Van Dyke and Chimdi Chekwa, receiver David Ausberry, center Stefen Wisniewski and tight end Richard Gordon signed Thursday morning.

It is believed that Barksdale in in Napa. Therefore, it’s conceivable that he could pass his physical and be in uniform in time for the first practice in 35 minutes or so.

As usual, the Raiders are all over getting their draft picks signed and in camp on time. Seldom does a player holdout or miss much time. Quarterback JaMarcus Russell was the lone exception in recent memory, when he missed all of training camp his rookie season in 2007.

    B is going to be upset that 85 is not coming to Oakland.

    Gotta like what the Pats are doing.

    Why all the Raider talk on this Lakers blog?

  • YoungAmerican

    Apparently the Patriots beat out the Raiders and 49ers for Ochocinco’s services.

    Al has kept his machete sharp… pink slips will be flying faster than DHB can drop five passes

    Jhill,

    Here is the answer to your question about how we can be signing these rookies when we are over the cap…..we don’t have to be under the cap until August 4th:

    “The 2011 league year will begin no later than August 4. When the 2011 league year begins, teams must be under the salary cap. (Specifically, their highest 51 cap numbers must fit under the cap.)”

    Malcolm Floyd, or Braylon Edwards…

  • SR Raider

    What’s the over/under on:
    1) how many passes DHB drops today
    2) how many days (hours?) until Schilens is hurt

  • Thec07

    How does oft-injured wide receiver Chaz Schilens look after missing most of last season with foot and knee injuries? Teammates say that Schilens looks healthy and ready to go. One observer up here reported seeing Schilens in a protective boot just before the NFL draft.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    HA! Hopefully he just thinks a protective boot is a cool fashion statement….
  • J Hill
    Ok, Dakota ….
    So I’ll look for about 30 million in cuts and restructures by Aug 4th.
    Coach Jackson said that we were talking to everybody….Meaning we had disscussions with most of the key FA’s that were on the market…
  • Thec07
    Still hope for Malcolm Floyd….
    Frankly, I don’t see how he could lose it.
  • SilverAndBlackBleeder
    Guess it’s time to start hollering at Malcolm Floyd since we lost out on my Free Agent Wish list WR Chad….
  • Thec07
    Floyd is bigger, younger, and faster than Chad…
    Better value over the long haul…
  • YoungAmerican
    Thomas Howard to the Bengals.
  • LA to TheBay
    Didn’t Floyd rack up like 1000 yards on us in the first SD game?
    If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em, Malcom.
    I like what I see from Co Jack, so far. By this time tomorrow, we should know who, if anyone, is joining the Nation.
    I hold all optimism and criticism until then.
  • J Hill
    So Hue Jackson didn’t think that 85 was worth a couple of late round draft picks?
    B, where are you mayne?
    Listening to the Bengals radio guy talk about 85. Says he’s lost a step and just couldn’t run routes correctly 10 years later. Caused Carson Palmer a lot of INTs.
    I am sure we had talks with him…I beleive he had a preference to Pats as they “appear” to be in a better position to win a championship…Seems to be his goal since he restructured….
    Just like that Randy Moss scrub. He did nothing after Al slyly dealt him for that great CB we got out of the deal (what was his name again?).
    Chad Ochocinco 2011 stats:
    73 catches 1095 yards 10 TDs.
