Raiders sign Wisniewski, four other 2011 draftees
By Steve Corkran
Thursday, July 28th, 2011 at 10:35 am in Oakland Raiders.
The Raiders just wrapped up signing five of their remaining six draft picks, including second-rounder Stefen Wisniewski. Offensive tackle Joseph Barksdale is the only one of Oakland’s eight draft picks who hasn’t signed, but he is expected to do so in the next few hours.
Running back Taiwan Jones and wide receiver Denarius Moore signed Wednesday. Wisniewski, cornerbacks DeMarcus Van Dyke and Chimdi Chekwa, receiver David Ausberry and tight end Richard Gordon inked deals Thursday. All seven are expected to be at practice this afternoon.
Barksdale arrived in the Bay Area on Wednesday morning. He is thought to be in Napa awaiting word from his agent that a deal has been consummated.
The Raiders hold their first practice at 3:30 p.m.

Breaston was a product of a great QB and 2 outstanding receivers to draw coverage. He was playing against crappy nickles and safeties the last time he did anything worth mentioning. He will be as good as chris chambers in KC.

Your right but he makes a good fit with bowe, and if baldwin can play a little that trio with charles and mcluster, they could really have an ipressive arry of weapons in the passing game.

Cromartie has fathered at least nine children with eight women living in six states, and has been named in at least five paternity suits in the past two years. According to court records, Cromartie failed to appear in court on two separate occasions in reference to moving violations and his driver license status. In March 2010, the Jets provided Cromartie with a $500,000 advance so Cromartie could make outstanding child support payments.”

Don’t think so. He’s another Stanford Routt. Specializes in man coverage. Long, fast player, but prone to lapses in concentration and will occasionally give up big plays or bonehead penalties.

With the NFL lockout voiding offseason workouts and keeping the league mostly out of view, Jackson consciously decided to devote much of his time to outreach. He’s standing in a Southern California boxing ring beside Andre Ward, the Oakland super middleweight champ, after he retains his title. Jackson is at a downtown Oakland dinner honoring hoops legend Bill Russell, who spent his formative years in the city. Jackson is visiting schools, greeting fans, meeting local leaders.
Furthermore, Jackson makes a point of residing in Oakland, patronizing local establishments, strolling the sidewalks of Jack London Square, spreading the gospel of the Raiders to anyone willing to listen.
“If I’m going to ask people to be in the stands and support us on Monday nights and Sunday afternoons, then I have to support them,” he said.
“Being the head coach of the Raiders is not about sitting in an office and looking out and saying, ‘I’m the head coach.’ It’s about being among the people, among the community and letting them know I’m a part of the community.”
Visibility is vital, particularly in this age, especially when there is so much image to alter and perception to change.
There is an entire generation of football fans that knows Oakland — with six winning seasons in 20 years — as one of those teams that rarely make the playoffs, rarely fills its stadium and rarely distinguishes itself from the generally mediocre likes of the Dolphins or Cardinals or Bills or Panthers.
This generation neither knows nor cares that the Raiders used to be football royalty, that the first 25 years of the Davis era (1963-87) featured 21 winning seasons, 15 postseason appearances, four AFL/AFC championships and three Super Bowl victories.
Jackson is making a strong early bid to establish himself as the team’s most conspicuous coach since Jon Gruden and its most engaged since perhaps John Madden — who presided over the Raiders when many were stitched into the fabric of the community, buying homes and raising families and operating businesses.
The new coach visualizes returning the Raiders to the perennial contender status they once enjoyed, and to the civic treasures they once were. He firmly believes he’ll succeed.
“There’s pressure on everybody,” he said. “The first pressure starts with me.”

Funny 666, and I’ll give you the ‘head case’, ’cause he is in the top of the league stats in suicide attempts, but that’s come and gone…he’s a winner, and arm strength can’t be argued. He actually completed more longer passing plays than Philip Rivers last year. True, some of them were probably long screens, but a lot weren’t, and the guy can chuck it. His problem was his coach didn’t like his style, but he WON. 30-17 record on a bum squad. Sometimes, folks just need to find a good fit (ie – Gannon). He WON without one legit wide receiver. Even we have one legit WR!

here is what everyone should always remember about the free agent game.
1.) its always about the money for the players. No matter what they say or how altruistic their persona, if it doesnt bring in the dollars it just doesnt make sense. i get it, you dont have much time to play the game or command top dollar, so it becomes a money grab. Can you really blame them?
2.) There is no loyalty in sports. relationships only last as long as they are beneficial to the owners. Players have no say, it is strictly a one way street. the minute you lose a 10th of a second on your forty time your gone.
4.)All free agents have a defect. it is a used car, it wouldnt be on the lot if it didnt come with a red flag. The great players never make it to free agency while they are in their prime unless the organization thinks that player is losing value. this is why you see us not trying to overpay for nnam the way we did for the last 2 years. these defects can range from on the field performance to off field baggage. in nnmas case i believe it is the failure to inspire team mates and make plays. he is a silent contributor, and we need more. If he was intercepting passes and taking them to the house we everyone would offer even more for his services including uncle AL. Its better to let players walk a bit too soon rather than let them hang on too long, ask john gruden.

July 28th, 2011 at 11:35 am
Mistic – Pt #2 somehow is always forgotten by everyone! That’s why I never knocked LeBron. He fulfilled his contract and did what was best for him. The owners care less about player loyalty, and will trade you in a second. Al davis cares about loyalty (sometimes to a fault, but gotta respect him for it), and he’s the last of a dying breed. Hell, I’m a Knick fan and seeing how they did my boy Pat Ewing when it was near the end of the road for him makes me sick…no way that guy should’ve had to play his last years with the Magic…..
July 28th, 2011 at 11:37 am
Ted – Tenn had to get rid of him. The owner LOVED him, hence why he didn’t ship him out after the suicide drama. The man’s record was 30-16 playing with bums. But the owner had to ship him out when Fisher said he wanted to part ways, because then it looks like a player runs the shop over there. We all know thats toxic.

The issue now however is how does VY view his career at this point. Im sure he and his agent know that he must repair his image. How do you do that without being able to compete for a starting gig? Easy, you sign as a back up learn your playbook and become a model citizen like vick.
remember when vick was viewed as an unreachable headcase that couldnt be coached with questionable skills for qb? Look at him now. he did it by signing on with the first team to give him a shot, and being a good role player/ back up, and preparing for his opportunity quietly. Vy would have the same advantage here. Not to mention qb gurus Hu jack and sunders that can definitely help him continue to grow as a qb. there is no pressure no expectation, and in a pinch he could win a game for you if the starter goes down. however he would probably start here at no.3
In my estimation JC, Vy, and boller make a quality qb core.

“compensatory picks,” are awarded to teams that have lost more qualifying free agents than they gained the previous year in free agency. Teams that gain and lose the same number of players but lose higher-valued players than they gain also can be awarded a pick, but only in the seventh round, after the other compensatory picks. Compensatory picks cannot be traded, and the placement of the picks is determined by a proprietary formula based on the player’s salary, playing time, and postseason honors with his new team, with salary being the primary factor. So, for example, a team that lost a linebacker who signed for $2.5 million per year in free agency might get a sixth-round compensatory pick, while a team that lost a wide receiver who signed for $5 million per year might receive a fourth-round pick.

This is how they work.

Cap has never been a problem with the Raiders. Al wants to keep someone bad enough, he will pay the man.
One of the wiser things he’s said in some time was he could get 2 or 3 guys for what he would pay Nnamdi.
Al took care of Nnamdi. Nnamdi stayed for the money and said he didn’t want to be traded at a time Al could have gotten a 1st rounder and then some.
If Nnamdi walks (and especially to the highest bidder, who will likely have an equal or worse record than ours), he walks for the money. If he goes to a contender, he’s still a punk cause now our compensation will be far, far less than when he was under contract.
From LA, went to school in the Bay, overdrafted and switched to corner by Al, and given every opportunity to be the league’s best shutdown corner.
Yes, he may be underutilized, but he was well taken care of.
He signed his franchise tag and the subsequent blockbuster contract and he knew what he was in store for.
Why not go to another team 2 years ago?
Nnamdi could shock the football community and stay.

Definitely, which is why he’d probably just be a camp body. But he can play some DT, so maybe that versatility can pay off down the line.
The defensive line still needs some more depth. Who knows, maybe the DE and DT they picked up as UDFAs will show up and impress.

July 28th, 2011 at 2:12 pm
VR, here you go. Kam had a 4 mil buyback which was excercised and then later voided by league due to their 30% rule:
Fox: Wimbley to sign tender
By Jerry McDonald – NFL Writer
Monday, February 28th, 2011 at 8:47 pm in Oakland Raiders.
According to a report by Adam Caplan of Fox Sports, the one-year tender to Kamerion Wimbley will be worth even more than expected _ coming in at $11.32 million.
UPDATE: The reason Wimbley’s tender estimate is higher is he received an “exclusive” franchise tag, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. That meant the Raiders don’t want him negotiating with any other teams even if the return was two first-round draft picks. Obviously that would never happen, so you wonder why the Raiders would just tack on another $1 million plus when the original plan was to pay him about $4.1 million on the buyback deal which was disallowed. The final number will be determined by the top five salaries at Wimbley’s position in 2011.
Agent Joe Linta said Wimbley would sign the tender _ and why wouldn’t he? Considering how much more he’ll get than the $635,000 in salary and $3.5 million buyback the Raiders had hoped to pay, it’s a minor upset that he hasn’t already signed it.
July 28th, 2011 at 2:17 pm
With as many FAs in play as he already has, Al liked Wimbley enough to avoid allowing him to talk with anybody other than the Raiders.
He’ll work out the cap business and sign who needs to be signed. I have nothing against that tactic.

We were only allotted a bit over 5 million to sign our draft picks so their caps hits are at that amount or less. I also read somewhere that teams don’t have to be in compliance with the cap until 4 August so reworking a couple deals to spread out the cap hit will get us under easy.

You dudes remember when KrappyKell got his overweight rear end kicked off the blog, then snuck over to profootballtalk, only to get ripped to shreds by his new friends in the comment section?
That was HILARIOUS!
Seems the sad old fool just can’t catch a break. Oh well, we get a lot more laughs the way it is!

Klis writes that not only did Orton look better than Tebow, but Brady Quinn looked better than Tebow, too.
Tebow seemed to think he played well, which isn’t necessarily a good sign.
“We’ve got to work on some timing with certain things, but for a first day, I thought it was pretty good,” Tebow said.

Love Al but all the $ he paid more than any other team would on Routt Wimbley and Eugene could have been used to keep Nnam Huff or get a vet receiver
