Raiders sign QB Edwards
By Steve Corkran
Saturday, July 30th, 2011 at 2:54 pm in Oakland Raiders.
The Raiders agreed to terms with veteran quarterback Trent Edwards on Saturday, according to Rep1 Sports, the firm that represents Edwards.
Edwards, 27, finished last season with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He is a five-year veteran with 33 starts. He joins a quarterback corps that includes Jason Campbell, Kyle Boller and Jordan La Secla.
Edwards’ last game against the Raiders came in 2008, when he rallied the Buffalo Bills from a 16-7 fourth-quarter deficit. He completed 14 of 19 for 182 yards and one touchdown on Buffalo’s final three scoring drives in the Bills 24-23 victory.
Sounds as if this means the end for Charlie Frye with the Raiders unless someone gets hurt or cut.

Boller? Edwards? Kicked or punched?

Good Move!
Too bad Gaither wasn’t healthy.
Barnes is a signing at OT. Should’ve started over Walker last year.

Report: Pryor ineligible for supplemental draft
Posted July 29, 2011 @ 9:37 p.m. Posted July 30, 2011 @ 4:47 p.m. ET
By PFW staff So much for the Jon Gruden special. It looks like Terrelle Pryor will have to wait a year before he enters the NFL.
According to ESPN’s John Clayton, the former Ohio State quarterback has been ruled ineligible for the NFL’s supplemental draft because the NCAA and OSU have yet to formally rule anything on him, and that needs to happen for him to enter the supplemental draft.

And you can forget about Pryor now.

BREAKING NEWS – Sensing they are close to a championship, LeBron James plans to sign with the Philadelphia Eagles by Monday.

I don’t understand how people can be so gloom and doom about this team. They are so young!! Its not like we are standing pat with a group of veterans who aren’t cutting it. I like our talent and I really like the coaches steering our talent. We are still looking forward to a big improvement IMO.

Damn, this is crazy, and may add another if they deal Samuel!!
AdamSchefter: As if they needed the help, Eagles now have two 2s, two 4s, two 5s and two 6s in 2012 draft. Talk about a well-run organization. [via Twitter]

I would be thrilled if we bring in Waters, even if its just for a season… might be enough to gel these guys together this year and give them time to develop a bit, then bring in some more O-line talent next draft and we should be set.

ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
I’m not B Essing here. I heard the Eagle were going after JaMarcus Russell to get him on the cheap, and make him a Right Tackle. Hear he’s weighing in at 410.
July 30th, 2011 at 3:09 pm
Just checked T. Edwards stats…no comment.
July 30th, 2011 at 3:09 pm
I like the Edwards deal, as long as he was cheap! Very accurate, check down type, that shouldn’t lose any games for us on his mistakes. Not a risk taker, but we can win with screens, slants, and hopefully underneath stuff to the TE (Miller!)

Isn’t D.Graham the TE from Denver available? He is a fantastic blocker and Meyers and the rookies can help pick up the receiving side. Just a though if Miller moves on, I would rather have him, but he has to want to come back!

July 30th, 2011 at 3:14 pm
Could this mean Charlie Frye as maybe “Offensive Quality Control Coach” or somesuch? Dude’s always been a coach in waiting…
July 30th, 2011 at 3:14 pm
When they said that Nnamdi’s salary demands where way out of whack, I was thinking $17M/year. But $12M? over 5 years. I got to believe that the salary wasn’t ever an issue. Either Al didn’t want Nnamdi anymore, or Nnamdi privately told Al “you can’t have me”.
July 30th, 2011 at 3:15 pm
Maybe the Raiders can still make a move for Falcons OG Justin Blalock? They need some veteran help along the offensive line badly.
July 30th, 2011 at 3:17 pm
I’m just excited that Al signed a body, anybody off another team. Thought the entire league had boycotted Al. But now that we got Edwards, dead silence. We all know the score. Raiders still stuck in neutral.
July 30th, 2011 at 3:19 pm
I don’t know Lefty.
Why did we draft Barksdale? Thought it might be to play RT, but the pursuit of Gaither and now the signing of Barnes has me question whether it may have been LG that we drafted Barksdale to play?
I’ve been saying all along I like our Oline because the changes we HAD to make at RT and C have been made. No way we could go with a RT that was pushing 400lbs. And I’m sorry, but Satele just was not that good, The coaches have been trying to replace him since last offseason.
I like our new scheme, and I like the players we have.

Great move!!!
Future potential disaster (Boller in a spot start) averted.
I figured Gaither was damaged goods. A top-tier LT just doesn’t walk away from a great organization like Baltimore unless their is major question marks.
July 30th, 2011 at 3:22 pm
Jared Gaither just tweeted:
JaredGaither Jared Gaither
“Grateful & Blessed!”
July 30th, 2011 at 3:24 pm
2008, Edwards had about the same stats as Soup did.
Potential is there, to at least not be such a major dropoff from Campbell if he gets dinged.
July 30th, 2011 at 3:25 pm
I’m just in no position to complain, lol.
My biggest whining this offseason was about Walker, Carlisle, Satele, and Boeller.
3 outta 4 have been replaced, and possibly all 4 if Campbell can take over for Carlisle, as expected.
Al is da MAN!

==========================================
It’s entirely possible that we DID draft Barksdale to play RT, just not starting Week 1 of his rookie year. This year, he may well be a G, or even a backup. Or maybe he will be starting, just not right away. Barnes is not exactly a lock to hold down a starting job.
July 30th, 2011 at 3:26 pm
Finally! The Raiders make a move that I thought was important and resign OT Khalif Barnes!
He should compete immediately at RT and be used as a backup at LT if necessary. He can be that tackle eligible that he was last year and be in elephant packages.
Gaither needs to lose weight before he signs on and then they can sign him on the cheap maybe.
Raiders need to sign WR Malcolm Floyd, LB Channing Crowder, and resign Z Miller!
Then sign another O-Linemen at a bargain.
Good move to pickup Edwards and see what he can bring to the table at QB and as competition.
July 30th, 2011 at 3:30 pm
Thec,
Floyd is running outta spots to sign with Minny picking up Jenkins.
July 30th, 2011 at 3:30 pm
Raiders resigned Sam Williams and Desmond Bryant. Woo Hoo!
July 30th, 2011 at 3:31 pm
So did Gaither get signed by Raiders or not on the cheap?
July 30th, 2011 at 3:33 pm
JHill,it could look just as you say,but i think with the lack of OTAs and rookie camps,it will be awhile before Barksdale steps into the starting line-up.Same with B.Campbell.However,at some point during the season either or both could be starting.I do think Barksdale was brought in to play T though.Just not enough time to get him up to speed to start the season.
July 30th, 2011 at 3:48 pm
Sam williams???? there has to be young players that are undrafted and more viable then him…..smh i dont know why AL loves him so much
July 30th, 2011 at 3:55 pm
Chekwa just got hurt at practice, hope this and the wrist aren’t a sign of things to come!
