TE Miller not a hot commodity

Perhaps it’s because not many teams have a burning need to add a tight end. Maybe his asking price is too high, or teams are leery of his injury history. Whatever the reason, tight end Zach Miller has not been as hot a commodity on the free agent market despite his impressive resume in four seasons with the Raiders.

Someone from the Miller camp said he is surprised that there haven’t been many teams willing to offer him a huge contract. That person also said that he remains hopeful that once teams address more-pressing needs, that Miller will generate plenty of interest.

This comes as welcome news for the Raiders, of course., They want Miller back, by all accounts, and they need him back in their offense. He was their leading receiver each of the past three seasons and someone who takes pressure off everyone else because of his dependability and consistency.

The Raiders are working on a long-term deal with linebacker Kamerion Wimbley that would free up some much needed salary-cap room. Wimbley’s agent and the Raiders have exchanged figures, and they are tyring to finalize a deal that would get the Raiders out from under the $11.3 million cap liability that comes from the franchise tag offer that Wimbley signed.

Miller has heard from numerous Raiders, including quarterback Jason Campbell.

“Yeah, I text (free agents) and everything, let them know we need them and want them back,” Campbell said.

Without Miller, the Raiders are rather thin at tight end. Veteran Brandon Myers is the No. 1 tight end in Miller’s absence, but he has spent his entire career as a backup and special teams player. Rookies Richard Gordon and David Ausberry can’t be counted upon to fill Miller’s void anytime soon.

In the meantime, Miller sits and waits for an offer to come that rewards him with the kind of compensation commensurate with his play the past four seasons. Don’t be surprised if the best offer winds up coming from the Raiders.

Kaczur or Jammal Brown are the only options left at OT, really.

Evan Mathis and Reggie Wells are FA OGs.

  • Eagles sign Cullen Jekins where they gettin all this cash..

  • priesttj

Did you guys know this Alan Pelc dude was a preseason Outland Trophy candidate? I was wondering why they had this guy at RT starting and I just read his bio. This kid is NOT some bum off the scrap heap.

I am going to keep my eye on this kid. He started for Butch Davis which says a lot but I didn’tg watch him the last time I watched the film on the Tenn vs UNC game next time I’ll watch him.

OUTLAND TROPHY CANDIDATE!!! what?? why didn’t he get drafted?

  • Plunketthead

On second thought. TouchdownTebow will probaly play on both sides of the ball so make it

    Raiders 52
mile low mules 8 TouchdownTebow will block a punt and then stop Jason for a safety, rush for 99 yards, pass for 124 and kick two field goals

  • Haters going to hate

    Did anyone sign Brian Waters?

  • YoungAmerican

Nevermind, Eagles got Evan Mathis, too.

  • CuzImaRaider

Am glad we passed on Gaither if this true, I think that as young as he is, to have as many injury issues as he does is a bad sign. I guy as big as he is can only suffer more as he ages!

  • Thec07

It was widely reported that we were going heavy at Chad Johnson… So what does that mean? Does the org believe we are set at WR????

  • lefty12

Thec,i was referring to the team getting better each year the last couple of years.Don’t try and twist the conversation like a certain troll on here does. The team tried to TRADE for a WR but I haven’t seen anything about the Raiders trying to sign any FA WRs.

Perhaps they saw how lousy his blicking was last year…

  • RaiderRetribution

well we didn’t sign Peyton Mannning, he just signed a (0 million dollar contract

  • Thec07

    Brown resigned…

Another day, another big free agent signing for the Philadelphia Eagles’ defense.

    C’mon RAIDERS!!!!!!!

    WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!

  • priesttj

No it’s not money Gaither isn’t healthy, they must’ve been waiting on MRI’s and Doctor’s to clear him for practice. The kid may be out for another year or his career may be in jeopardy.

  • CuzImaRaider

Pelc, could be interesting, played G, C not Tackle from what I can tell. Curious if shoulder injury and surgery plagued his draft status.

  • From the Bay 2 L.A. 2 Las Vegas

Where did the Eagles get all this money???

  • lefty12

Going heavy-LOL.NE only gave up a 5th next year and a 6th the following year.If we were going heavy after the guy we certainly cold have beat that offer.

  • Thec07

Dude, I aint twisting sht…you came at me with the stupid 1 WR non sense…

  • priesttj

Mr D wouldn’t let money get in the way of signing a kid like Gaither if he’s healthy.

What is the No.1 WR? Is this a new concept? Lol

What exactly is a #1 receiver? I think we have several guys with the talent to surpass 1000 yards and, given the nature of our offense, that would make us golden at that position.

  • RaiderRetribution

cullen jenkins just signed with the eagles

between what they are paying vick, asomugha, asante, babin

how are they able to stay under the cap and sign everyone

Raiders if you are relying on building through the draft I’m all for it, but you need to get busy if you are wanting to get quality FA for this season.

  • YoungAmerican

Young kid with back troubles = not good for the future. Better off with Barnes in that case, although it would be nice to make another vet OL signing like Jammal Brown or Reggie Wells.

    Shame about Gaither. Talented kid.

  • RaiderRetribution

I’m with you From the Bay, all the way from the Inland Northwest

    Desean Jackson is fuming now!

  • priesttj

All I can say is that’s top shelf stuff if he was comsidered an Outland trophy hopeful. There are only 65 players considered each year on both sides of the line.

  • Thec07

That’s my point we made an offer to a guy like chad johnson who is a circus act in his own right and you don’t consider that a potential big FA signing????

Oh yeah that’s right the RAIDERs don’t do that anymore per you….lol

  • Veldeer looks like he can develop into a good LT added 45 lbs of bulk he says to play harder Gathier may have wanted LT spot and ther goes Veldeers developing need RT.

  • YoungAmerican

Rams and Eagles are owning free agency right now.

  • lefty12

If we can get someone cheap, essentially steal them we will. But we aren’t laying out big bucks for any WRs.Davis likes what we have.HJ has said he likes what we have.

  • priesttj

The Eagles have a window they are trying to get through for SB win. Smart moves so far, outstanding moves really.

  • SilverNutSack

    I like what we have.

Where has Oakland improved this year?

Agreed, they are smoking this FA class. D-jax must be heated no contract for him as of yet,, while we’re on the Iggles, anyone like Ernie Sims?? Two Florida Staters on the edge’s!! Also, injury ridden though!

  • Kirk

Khalif Barnes? Yikes! With him and DHB starting, God help Jason Campbell.

  • Eagles look good glad they are in the N.F.C Raiders Eagles Superbowl Raiders win again

  • lefty12

Now,you are just being stubborn. It was a trade, not a FA signing.Come on man,you aren’t stupid. And you know as well as I do a future 5 and 6 isn’t sh!t,they essential gave him away.If we wanted him that bad we could have easily bested that offer.

  • RaiderRetribution

if Gaither is not healthy do not sign him, go after Waters.

Waters as a starting left guard would be an excellent teacher between 2nd year LT Mr. Vehldeer and rookie center Mr. Wisniewski

we could then have our veteran Mr. Loper at RG next to rookie RT Mr. Barksdale

    Vehldeer Waters Wisniewski Loper Barksdale

reserves Parsons, Campbell, Lamaak and Satele or Mawae

  • RaiderfanNY

Miller’s not getting a big offer because he’s too slow. He’s a good player, but he’s not a big-play guy.

Routt gets $20 million guaranteed and Nnamdi gets $25 million guaranteed? What’s wrong with this picture?

  • CuzImaRaider

Mawae!?! If he can still play I’d thow him in a C, and let Wiz 2.0 earn his stripes at gaurd!

  • Kirk

Miller is not getting a big offer because he isn’t that good.

  • Veldeer,Loper,Wiz, good with that side RG RT NEED HELP

  • Thec07

So why would we attempt to get chad johnson? We are set right?

  • Waters still got something left?

  • DonManoukiansNeighbor

Why should we develop DHB in a Pro Bowl player? He will just go on to another team to get his SB ring. That’s what we do here.

  • Thec07

I trust the org, If they believe we need a WR I trust that we will get one…

LOL, seriously. Lets cross that bridge if AND when it ever happens!

  • priesttj

I’m not sure how much we wanted Chad if at all. If we really wanted him what they got for him is easily what we would’ve paid if they wanted him. I said earlier that I didn’t want to trade for Chad if he was a FA then yeah. But I’ll believe Chad is done being a clown when I see it. The side shows make me sick.

Play the game you’re way too talented to need that crap, the other great rec’s didn’t need to do that why did he?

  • aig-raiders

oh boy, the Eagles have suddenly become a cool place to play. I thought that spot belonged to the Jets the past few years. Rehabbing Mike Vick’s image has done wonders for that org. Congrats to them. Glad they are in the NFC.

  • SilverNutSack

    I like that.

  • DonManoukiansNeighbor

It’s Priesttj vision not mine. I say save the money.
