I think losing Miller would be a big loss to this team. But at the same time after reading some posts here, I agree with some of the points being made about losing him.
He has had 2 concussions, and I think the NFL has some kind of rule about the 3rd? something to do with playing time and such. I’m not sure of what it is exactly, but I think the NFL passed it a couple years back when they were doing this whole “fight concussions” campaign. They had commercials and everything.
That said, plus the injuries to his feet, does make him a risky investment. Imagine Al gives him the big contract he is sure to be looking for, and then in week 4 he gets laid out by one of Campbells floaters, and we don’t see him again until week 10, when he comes back and is not 100%. He would not be much help then.
He is a great weapon and if he does leave, I will surely miss him. But I don’t think it would be the end of the world. I don’t know how much of an outspoken leader he was in locker room, but our offense was somewhat built with him in mind. So it will be interesting to see how we do without him.
Best of luck Miller. Resign if you really want to be a Raider. If not, don’t let the door hit you on the arse, or Al’s walker for that matter.

More likely a bluff by Zach’s agent – and a bold one at that – or Zach is serious about looking elsewhere.
Seattle is a team on the rise but have serious QB issues in the same division as Bradford, who is getting help.

Maybe I’m by myself on this on; but I’m not too concerned w/ losing Miller. He’s a very good player, the best receiver we have had for the past few years; but he’s is gettins seriously dinged up. He suffered the same injury as Gates and Gates, if reports are true, STILL has not fully recovered. And ZM suffered his injury AFTER Gates.
Late last year, ZM slowed down and it was very noticable. So you take into account that injury, his past concussions, and general lack of speed BEFORE the injury its not exactly screaming – cut a big check.
I have said a number of times. ZM was already fairly slow b4 the injury. Its possible that foot injury made him too slow to be as much of a factor anymore.

I like Wimbley. On top of the sacks he brought consistent pressure off the edge that we haven’t seen since D Burgess’ prime. He could be a 15 sack guy for us while holding his own as a LB for the next few years.

I put more stock in Zach than several here do, MR.
I’m scared of being in the cellar and should be. I think we’re beyond that now though, realistically and have the pieces to win the West.
I think Zach makes the offense more dynamic. He was underutilized (I think that’s a real word) and should have had more catches than he did. Injuries are a part of the game, but Zach’s still pretty young.
With him being used as he should, the offense is that much more dangerous.
But no interest in him whatsoever until righ now when he’s in Seattle and the situation has come to a head and Kam signs this huge deal?
He’s trying – or his agent is- to get under Al’s skin.

I know alot of the “fans” clamour for the big signings and so on, but really. With nearly the same roster as last year, I think we’ll be alright. I mean maybe we have a slightly more difficult schedule, but you’ve got to consider that if Seabass, makes a field goal in Arizona, the QB controversy and stale offense in San Fran comes through, and a couple small things here and there, we could have easily finished 10-6. Yeah we lost Nnamdi, he missed some time last year and I don’t really think it affected us, if the rooks from the draft class can step up. I for one look forward to the season. Regardless, I think AL will pick up some solid help over the next few weeks, either by waiver wire, trades or stale FA’s. I would rather have this occur, than splurge for overpriced players as we have done in the past.

You guys should check your math.
Wimbley 5 yr 48 mil with 29 mil guaranteed.
if he plays 1 year, he’s guaranteed 29 mil. If he plays the full 5 year, he will earn 48 mil. So if you want to get a year avg based on 5 year, then your number is not 5 mil but more like $9.6 mil per year. Now that number will change once the details of the contract is disclosed. My hunch is his first 3 years will total around $29mil which will mean around $10 mil per year.
He aint going to play the full 5 year at the same contract. He will most likely play for 3 years and then get another contract.

I can’t help but think that Al Davis has his numbers and salaries all mixed up with perceived allegiances. Loyalty pays a lot of bills. That was a $hite load of cash to drop on both Wimbley and Routt. Almost $50M!

I know alot of the “fans” clamour for the big signings and so on, but really. With nearly the same roster as last year, I think we’ll be alright. I mean maybe we have a slightly more difficult schedule, but you’ve got to consider that if Seabass, makes a field goal in Arizona, the QB controversy and stale offense in San Fran comes through, and a couple small things here and there, we could have easily finished 10-6. Yeah we lost Nnamdi, he missed some time last year and I don’t really think it affected us, if the rooks from the draft class can step up. I for one look forward to the season. Regardless, I think AL will pick up some solid help over the next few weeks, either by waiver wire, trades or stale FA’s. I would rather have this occur, than splurge for overpriced players as we have done in the past.

Sacks are overrated. Anthony Smith used to have double digit sacks too. I’ll take a good DE that can play both the run and pass. Frankly, a consistent QB pressure is much more valuable than sacks. A player can get 11 sacks but if 4 of those came in one game then it really blinds the other 17 games. At this rate, Shonasty and Houston are going to cost us around $50 mil guaranteed when their rookie contract is up…..so long as they let Al Davis know they are loyal to him. But that’s how we roll as the Raider Land.

And at the cost for our front seven, while still retaining our future drafts picks, I wouldn’t touch sh!t. Aside from, collecting some larger bodies for rotation. Quite possible some of these UFA step it up and earn a spot.

Quite frankly losing Aso and Miller is no big deal. They can be replaced. Losing Bush would be a big deal. He can pound the rock.
We are going to be better than last year. Why? Jackson is a much better coach than Cable. Jason Campbell has one more year in our system. Our young players have one more year of experience, and our draft was pretty good. And most important of all, we now have replacements for DHB.

While others criticized for too many Ravens/Steeler references….it looks like the SnB formula to football is starting to take shape….
1. Run the football +50% of the time with DMAC & Bush (run blocking TE)
2. Focus (almost exclusively) on the front 7, with a ruthless attention to stopping the run
3. Only draft O-Line, D-Line and Linebackers in top of draft….
4. Play physical defense
Looks like the team is following the prescription. Sign Lofa and let Miller walk if necessary. Get a beast TE to block…run the ball, control the clock and play a ruthless unrelentless run defense and blitz.

Three turnovers, sure (GOTTA put one on Murph) but it seems the defense folded down 10 points on several different occasions.
I kept looking at the scoreboard like “how are we still in this with the D laying down?” I think they were surprised a Raider O could keep THEM in the game.
Think that was the first time under the Hue offensive era I saw the O light it up and keep playing, despite mistakes.

He is not always right, so we will wait and see, but I think maybe Cable and Carroll may have done enough to lure the big TE up I5 to the Emerald City!

You are correct. Chris Webber was a headcase but he was young too. But #21 and Miller are definitely not head cases. C Webb hated being traded to Sac (whined about lack of soul food up there) but they ended up making a good run up there for a few years. We got nothing in return for losing #21 and possibly losing #80.

If sacks not overrated then, are you telling me Trevor Scott deserves at least $20 mil guaranteed since his best year in 2009 was only 2 sacks behind Wimbley 7 vs 9. In fact Trevor had 2 games where he had 2 sacks each. Wimbley only had 1 game (the final game) with more than 2 sacks.
T. Scott in his career avg 4.5 sacks per year. If you throw out his injury last year, he’d avg 6 sacks.
K. Wimbley avg 7.5 sacks per year.
So please tell me why Scott shouldnt get $20 mil guaranteed if sacks are NOT overrated.

Miller and Bush “great”? Really? Even close to Nnamdi’s impact? Al said Nnamdi was easily replaceable. Said he could get 3 “great” players for the price Nnamdi’s asking. I was under the impression that “great” in this context meant at least somewhere close to Nnamdi’s level. Bush and Miller are solid, but on Nnamdi’s level? Good teams with good GM management do not allow their best players to get to FA. You either get rid of them via trades or make sure you lock them in before they become UFA. It’s been well documented across the NBA, NHL, MLB, and NFL.

Kamerion is going to need at least a dozen sacks a year to earn his contract.
Providing a stellar pass-rush every other game, and off-setting it with being awful against the run on a damn near weekly basis, does not even out in my book.
Watch the games, and where teams run on us. Right off the edge, right at Kamerion and Groves, and they are being handled by TE’s, not tackles.

I know you guys will be bummed if Miller goes but we have a vet TE in fact two and two rookies to boot. if he leaves he leaves a position wide open where the competition. I love the idea of Ausberry getting the reps he’s getting this early. By the time the season kicks off he will have put in some snaps and that can’t hurt.
I have the feeling Miller sees the writing on the wall and he knows the kid is just as big and a whole lot faster. Auseberry will be a matchup nightmare the same as Gonzalez and Gates. The kid running down the seam is going to be fun to watch. WE may miss Miller this year but that’s it.

For my money, I would much rather have Zach Miller than Cam’Ron.
We’ve had dudes like Wimbley for years around here, great pass-rush, iffy everything else. Burgess to Trevor Scott to Chris Clemons to Lance Johnstone, etc, etc.

Fact – 48 mil contract over 5 years with 29 mil guaranteed.
Translation = That means he is guaranteed a MINIMUM of $29 mil regardless if he plays 1 year or 5 years. If he plays 5 years, then he is owed $48 mil aka the entire term of the contract (unless renegotiated).
If you noticed, I didnt mention your name and I was merely making sure the numbers were correct.
Now if you want to go at it for round 2, you go on ahead. Fact – 48 mil contract over 5 years with 29 mil guaranteed.
Translation = That means he is guaranteed a MINIMUM of $29 mil regardless if he plays 1 year or 5 years. If he plays 5 years, then he is owed $48 mil aka the entire term of the contract (unless renegotiated).

ZM has been a fine player. Not an awesome physical talent, but was able to get open and had excellent hands. Consistent production and reliable.
Some cracks began to show last 2 years. Some drops. Concussions. And then the foot injury.
Will he probably still be a very good player for another 3 or 4 years ? I think so.
Is he irreplacable ? Far from it.
I think Kevin Boss is at least Miller’s equal, if not better.
Wouldn’t feel comfortable rolling into 2011 with just Brandon Meyers and some late round draft picks – but it wouldn’t terrify me either. I like Meyers.
At this moment, the Raider primary concern has to be adding another center to the roster. There is no way in hell they can go into the season with Wiz II as the only center on the roster. I don’t believe there’s another lineman on the roster with any experience at center outside of Veldheer. If Wiz goes down or can’t cut the mustard do we really want to move V to center ?
That would appear to be the plan right now.
Raider priority at this moment should be to resign Satele, or bring in another veteran that can play center.

He has been the best TE in years I don’t know about 20 years but certainly for some time. I really like the two kids we drafted one is athletic kid and the other is a very good inline blocker. The key is we do have Myers who can hold down the fort as they grow. It’s nto nearly as bad as it sounds. Miller solidifies the TE position but he not what I call a truely great TE. But Aus has the potential to be one and Gordon is not a bad consilation. He had injury problems similar to Chaz when we drafted him but he’s 270 and very physical plus he’s faster than Zack is. We kind of lucked out with those two. I wish we would gotten Virgil Green though and I would care if Zack left.

Wimbley would not, no but he and Zach have backed Al in a corner here. He’s rewarded loyalty, like it or not and these two dudes are gunning for theirs.
Wimbley got less than a mil last year, was excersised for his extension for 4 mil (voided by league after his agent was cleared to make it 3 years prior) and then signs the Tag to ensure he doesn’t escape.
It’s not the ideal situation but if Kam walked, we’d be in the same position: overpaying a LB. And this one is versatile and very young. Al had his eye on him in college. Of course he’s going to keep him.

Sure, they may want him back now; but they surely were drafting TE this year for a reason!
I knew Ausberry was going to be converted to TE. And I had him marked as the guy they were going to try to replace Miller with. Faster and good hands from his WR days. But that was to be down the road a bit. Now Richard Gordon, who has more experience at TE has an oppty to fill the void if it comes to it. He may be good himself. Miami just didn’t use the TE much as I’ve read.
