Stay outta L.A.

Share

Pinch-hitting for Steve Corkran today and checking in before heading out to practice in preparation for Thursday night’s preseason opener against Arizona.

Looks like blog problems have been worked out . . . in the meantime, if you haven’t seen it already, here’s a link to Bill Plaschke’s column in the Los Angeles Times begging the Raiders to stay out of Los Angeles.

That ought to get the blood boiling.

I’ll check in later following practice . . .

Man, if LA gets a team what will the Raiders do? Half their ticket sales are from guys coming up from LA. Now they will have a team in their own city to see instead……

…20k fans in attendance in Oakland after LA gets a new team?

    =====================================================
That is what we would have drawn without the specials on tickets last year.

Because he REACHED like hell around all the other more qualified WR’s in the draft to defy everyone, to get DHB!

    Kell,

If you finally want to act you age and have a discussion, I’m all for it. If you’re just interested in your same ole, same ole back and forth, I’ll take a pass.

DHB was a first rd prospect. Davis reached, what, 15 spots too early?

Mike Mitchell wasn’t even on anyone’s draft sheet. You don’t think taking a guy in the top part of rd 2 instead of rd 5 or 6 is a bigger reach than taking a guy projected 1st rd pick in the first round?

  • RAIDERMAN99

According to the Bible, it would appear that the universe is only about 6 thousand years old.

Science tells us the universe is about 15 billion years old.

    Which is right ?

    The answer, surprisingly, is BOTH.

It took an Albert Einstein to show how this can possibly be true.

How can this be ? How can the dichotomy between the 6 days of creation plus the ‘generations of man’ which add up to 6000 years – and a 15 billion year old universe be compatible ? How can they both be right ?

    Simple.

Genesis is written from a Divine perspective. That is to say, from the Beginning looking forward. As humans, we measure time from our point in the space-time continuum looking backwards. This makes all the difference.

The 6 days of Creation as depicted in Genesis, looking FORWARD in time, equates to aproximately 15 billion years, as we measure time here on Earth.

This is not an absurd rationalization. Any cosmologist will verify this.

50 years ago, if you asked scientists ‘how old is the universe ?’ – the overwhelming consensus would have been ‘the universe is eternal’. It always existed.

We now know that is wrong. There was indeed a ‘Beginning’. There wasn’t even a time ‘before’ the Big Bang. Time didn’t exist.

I’m an agnostic. I’m just not sure if there is a God or supreme being. I’m not a person of faith.

But I do find it fascinating and a little bit spooky that modern science has reversed it’s previous stance and confirmed the words “In the beginning,”.

Therefore, I will not condemn or resent anyone that believes the latter part of the first sentence of Genesis to be true.

    89052,

Did you ever get around to answering why Al is so concerned about being right on DHB, but could care less about being right about Mike Mitchell?

Bruce Gardowski can replace Jamarcus Russell, but Lou Murphy can’t replace DHB?

Justin Fargas can start over DMac, but Murphy can’t start over DHB?

Take a deep breath and really think about that for a second.

Why on earth would Davis care about DHB’s success over HIS team’s?

AL also loves MM and Trevor Scott. His refusal to move on from bad draft picks has a lot to do with the team’s status as the NFl doormat. MM was a horrible selection in the 2nd round and T Scott should not be an every down DE, but Al thinks differently. We all know what happened when TC tried to cut MM last year. Why in the world does Sam Williams continue to waste a roster spot????AL

    J Hill,

    89052,

I just want to stay focused on your statement that Al is trotting out DHB AS A NUMBER ONE WR.

If what you say is true MM34, we should expect to see MM34 STARTING as well.

If what you say is true, we should expect to see Trevor Scott STARTING over ShoNasty.

I’ll certainly buy that Al Davis keep players he likes on the team. But to say that he mandates they START????

    Disagree.

The unfortunate thing is that science has been politicized. There are people who claim to be scientist but are actually political activists.
There are “scientists” that are as greedy as your typical bankster. Beware.

  • Silverandblack666

“The 6 days of Creation as depicted in Genesis, looking FORWARD in time, equates to aproximately 15 billion years, as we measure time here on Earth.”

I seriously doubt any scientist would ever equate 6 days to somehow equal 15 Billion years, sorry man nice try though.

  • I think DHB was never supposed to be the #1 WR last year, but Chaz couldn’t stay healthy, so DHB was forced into the role. Now the onus is on Chaz to earn his spot back.

Murph and Ford are locks – DHB will be the one fighting for a roster spot if Chaz stays healthy.

This “unofficial” depth chart is BS imo.

Just seen this responce by a Raider fan off the column that Plaschit wrote this morning and I think it sums it up just perfectly.

I am an Asian American up here in the Bay Area. I happen to have an MBA, and have a good career. I am polite. I don’t have tatoos. I have never done drugs before. I don’t hit people. I am a bit preppy.I don’t wear spikes on my head or anywhere else on my body.

I love the Raiders. I love the mystique of the team. It is a reminder of the gritty competiitveness that was once American Football, which has now been usurped by corporate packaging and jogging practices with no pads on. Sports is about otherwise ordinary people pushing themselves to do extraordinary things. The Raiders remind me of that. Though, I must admit, Al Davis drives me nuts.

But this article drove me more nuts. First, it has a racial twinge to it that I find distasteful. Second, the author seems awfully arrogant to subordinate the many Raiders loyalists in LA that continue to follow the team. They remains fans for a reason, and the author seems to relegate them to triviality. Third, by his characterization of the Raiders organization and its fanbase, the author also insults the entire city of Oakland, which is a vibrant and diverse community. If he’s prejudiced against the challenges that Oakland faces as a community, he needs to look no further than LA’s own troubles with crime and poverty to recognize his hypocricy.

Shame on you, LA Times, for printing this piece.

I agree with u there’s a beginning to this universe, I said man has been on earth for 6000 years . the earth could have been around longer. In the first chapter of genesis its states the earth was dark and void , God has created it in eternity past and returned back to earth make it livable.

  • I went to see the L.A. Charger’s the first year in L.A. with my cub scout troop. Bench seating instead of seats. Barron Hilton owned them. Later I worked for National General Corp. owned by Eugene V. Klein who owned the Chargers. Cocky S.O.B. Hated the Bolts then, hate them now.

I don’t think the team is a joke.

8-8 last year and sweeping the division does not equal a joke, imo.

Heck, even a national reporter from Yahoo who usually bashes us has picked the Raiders to go to the AFC Championship game.

  • TerrapinRaider

Well well well. The 1st draft of the depth chart and wha’d ya know? …DHB tops the charts

I expect some changes on offense for sure with the starting lineup. For 1 I expect the OL to maybe switch 2 starter positions out of Loper, Carlisle & Barnes/Satele.

But back to the WRs. This is the most interesting. Ford over Murphy. What did I tell you? Last year Ford was taking snaps from Murphy NOT DHB!

It goes without saying that DHB must produce, but with Moore coming on strong Murphy may get his snaps cut even further (ignoring any injuiries to Schilens and/or Bey).

You boys give Murphy a lot of credit and he IS a good player; but trust me, he benefits tremendously from DHBs presense on the other side (queue Hue’s quotes will ya’).

666, you’re entitled to your doubt. But I assure you, time is relative. This is a known fact, beyond debate, which is proven every day and evidenced by GPS technology.

If you doubt the veracity of a 6 day time period as measured from the perspective of looking FORWARD in time, from the ‘beginning’ – being equal to approximately 15 billion years looking BACKWARD in time, from our perspective – consult with any cosmologist or physics text book.

Has to do with the expansion of the universe. It’s standard cosmology, not idle speculation or a ‘nice try’.
