Not pleased with the ‘lock’ list.

    at all

I’M NOT EITHER GUEST123, I BELIEVE THERE’S SOME PLAYERS ON THAT LIST THAT WON’T BE WITH THE TEAM WHEN THE SEASON OPENS

Jarvis Moss has been one of my favorite players since he first got here and I saw the kids getoff. His getoff is as good as Derrick Burgess only he’s very long and athletic. This kid has a chance to be special he reminds me of Charles Haley. Here with Wauffle he is getting great coaching and he looks like his development is complete. Don’t be surprised if this kid gets between 8-12 sacks this year.

    ^^^^^^^^^^

can I get a HELL YAH!!

  4. TerrapinRaider Says:

I don’t get the Wiz at LG yet. From what I have gleaned he has taken the least amount of snaps at LG. He has taken the most at RG & C. Plus he has more experience there. So I just don’t understand yet where LG is coming from.

Heyer has rec’d more 1st team reps at LG than Wiz.

  5. priesttj Says:

We aren’t at practice the coaches are. We don’t see film from practice the coaches do. Let them form this team and you’ll be much happier, I don’t always agree with what they do I just don’t whine and cry about it like most of you…….because I defer to them if I see something I disagree with i give it the benefit of the doubt. I don’t go into this Al Davis excuse mode I take into consideration because I wnat to see why they disagreed.

You guys play teh scholarship card because you think You’re right and you know better. You are just a fan………..period

  6. guest123 Says:

    Terrapin,

I think that is evidence that this OL is a work in progress. The season’s quickly approaching and they still can’t make up their minds.

  7. raiderzmaverick Says:

Either McFadden or Ware have to go from the secondary and we should keep Sterling Moore.

Aside from that we could probably chip away at Rock Cartwright or Sam Williams who are both purely special teams players at this point.

  8. Thec07 Says:

I trust the ord, and the coaching staff. They will put who they feel are the best players on the field to position this team to win, and win often…

  9. Thec07 Says:

Our WR corp has the potential to be better than the 76, 78 Raider team…

76 Raiders, best team the NFL has ever seen…

  10. priesttj Says:

T’pin I think they want that LG spot that was vacated filled and Loper has bombed to their surprise. They want to keep Barksdale and BC on gthe right side thus the move to LG for Wiz because they feeel he can most successfully adapt to it in short order.

  11. Thec07 Says:

If you are a RAIDER you should be very excited about this team…

  12. Twocents Says:

    Locks?

    Taiwan Jones, why?
    Myers, what has he done?
    Loper?
    Scott, PUP.
    W. McFadden, you have got to be kidding.

  13. priesttj Says:

Thec07 The guys hate the idea of Mr Davis mandating who plays but THEY try to do it all the time.

“If so and so does’t start Al is meddling” that’s how they reason so who’s really trying to meddle?? HMMM??

  14. Thec07 Says:

    Taiwan Jones, why?
    ++++==

He is injuried however, you will see once he gets the ball on a wheel route, or screen out of the backfield… He will be the MUP this year no doubt…

Thats called falling for the lies of the press…

  16. Twocents Says:

Thec, I would love to see him make it, but a lock?

  17. Thec07 Says:

The thing most exciting is no one, i mean no one is expecting anything from this team. Baring injuries we have seen the best camp from these guys. Moreover, we have seen the best QB camp in a lot of years…

We have something special going on, RAIDER NATION need to get use to idea of winning…

  18. SnB Production Says:

    Priesttj,

Why do you care so much what anonymous bloggers say about Davis or the Raiders?

It all gets sorted out on the field.

Before the injury the coaches got to see him live up close and in person…This youngster is a weapon…

    ***********************88

Thats the dilemma as I see it now. Heyer has taken more 1st team reps at LG and looked pretty good in the preseason there.

  22. armond Says:

man they better not let sterling moore get away. he will out play ware this preseason, book it! besides that he is my mup pick. my final 6 would be

    s.moore
    hagan
    tonga
    francis
    hill
    moss

i dont even know why moss is on the bubble cuz there is no faster de on the roster. he is a lock especially if the 1rst game is any indication of whats to come.

  23. priesttj Says:

SnB Because he asked me a question and I answered it, and they always have something to say to me about the only is because of this and such I just answer them. Is that OK with you!!

  24. priesttj Says:

Yeah and so Wiz and Heyer are battling for the starting position. Wiz has taken somewhat of a back seat at C and hue said he has to FIND a way to get him on the field. Thus the move to LG..

  25. armond Says:

i believe tonga gives us some versatility in the backfield. he is a big back who can catch and rush. he did a good job of lead blocking and blitz pickup from what i remember. he is a good compliment for reece. i look at him the same way that the packers use john kuhn. he wont touch the ball as much as him but will be effective as a bully for our playmakers. he can also make a few plays himself. dmc/bush/jones/cartwright/reece/tonga is pretty deep.

  26. SnB Production Says:

    Priesttj,

Sure its ok with me. Just that you continuously remind us of the obvious…that the Raiders coaches and management will decide who plays…not random bloggers on a website.

  27. priesttj Says:

Armond it’s just a #’s gamr someone has to be on the bubble. IMO Moss will make it but we’ll see what happens. Personally I love the kid but I’m not a coach.

  28. Twocents Says:

Call me “Pavlov’s Dog” but after years of conditioning to expect failure, until the Raiders dominate, bury, annihilate and kick major ass on Denver in the season opener, I will remain skeptical.

  29. priesttj Says:

SnB it seems someone should…these guys are obsessed with their own opinions as if they know more. If it bothers you man trust me it doesn’t bother you near as much as the whining about who sucks and who doesn’t bothers me. These guys will cut the entire team if they had their way.

Al looks terrible in that picture. Ghastly. Ghoulish.

If you don’t like the man, you might enjoy seeing his decline and think it’s something to joke about. Your comparative youth and vibrancy might even make you feel superior to him.

If you do like or admire the man, you can’t help but be sorry and concerned for him.

Either way, you should keep in mind that there’s only one alternative to aging and that one day you might cast a similar appearance.

You think Al doesn’t know he looks like death warmed over ?

    I assure you he does.

The man is a multimillionaire. He can walk away from this and try to enjoy his last years. He doesn’t have to put himself out there to be mocked and ridiculed.

I don’t know if he’ll succeed in his goal of restoring the Raiders to prominence, but I sure as hell admire his tenacity and will miss him when he’s gone.

I know many feel differently, but this long time Raider fan will never throw Al under the bus.

    ==================================================

That is awesome. Agreee 100%. You are absolutely correct and why some people get off trying to discredit Al really says more of them than it does of Al. There may come a time when they hope they can make it to 80.

Take KK for instance always posted his tripe about Als’ record. We know this, and he is not reminding anybody of what it is. But guess what, Raiders could be 12-4 this year.

Do I agree with Al? Lots of times and lots of times not. But he is the Raiders #1 man and he can do as he pleases.

    Maybin good? Maybin too risky?

  33. SnB Production Says:

In my opinion, this is the most interesting camp. Several good options at wide receiver that still has to be sorted out…..excited to see how Hue uses the running backs with all of them healthy to start the season for the 1st time!

McClain’s improvement critical for the run defense

  34. Thec07 Says:

True…but there are some players that have to start playing to the contract and trust that Al has given them.

  36. Pipe layer Says:

EDDIE MCGEE ALSO LOOKED GOOD THE OTHER DAY AT WR, IF GLASS SCHILENS DOESNT GET HEALTHY QUICK, ITS TIME TO GIVE SOME OF THESE OTHER YOUNG GUYS A SHOT, MCGEE, HAGAN, BODIFORD ARE BIG WR’S THAT CAN MAKE PLAYS

  37. armond Says:

i think we should look at some of these dts very closely. hendu/kelly/seymour are all 30 and up. bryant is the only young dt on the team. we need to begin the process of finding some young studs while these guys can still play. thats what the steelers do a good job of. they get their replacements on the roster years in advance so there isnt a dropoff.

    MY OPINION:
(TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THAT SOME PLAYERS MAY MAKE IT PURELY ON SPECIAL TEAMS VALUE LIKE SAM WILLIAMS, THAT I DON’T KNOW ENOUGH ABOUT TO HAVE A FULLY KNOWLEDGABLE VIEWPOINT. LIKE H. EUGENE BEING OUR GUNNER, I WOULD’VE THOUGHT HE WASN’T TOO VALUABLE BEFORE).
QB — Jason Campbell, Trent Edwards and Kyle Boller

RB — Darren McFadden, Michael Bush and Taiwan Jones

    FB — Marcel Reece

WR — Chaz Schilens, Louis Murphy, Jacoby Ford, Denarius Moore, Darrius Heyward-Bey, Shaun Bodiford, Derek Hagan
(if Schillens doesn’t heal quickly I would say release him and keep another WR at that point).

TE — Kevin Boss, David Ausberry

OL — Jared Veldheer, Samson Satele, Stefen Wisniewski, Joseph Barksdale, Cooper Carlisle, Bruce Campbell, Khalif Barnes, Stephon Heyer and Daniel Loper

DL — Matt Shaughnessy, Lamarr Houston, Richard Seymour, Tommy Kelly, John Henderson, Trevor Scott, Desmond Bryant, Jarvis Moss

LB — Rolando McClain, Kamerion Wimbley, Travis Goethel, Quentin Groves, Darryl Blackstock

CB — Stanford Routt, Chris Johnson, DeMarcus Van Dyke, Sterling Moore, Jeremy Ware and Chimdi Chekwa

S — Michael Huff, Tyvon Branch, Mike Mitchell and Stevie Brown

    K — Sebastian Janikowski

    P — Shane Lechler

    LS — Jon Condo

Plus either Sam Williams, Rock Cartwright or Brandon Meyers purely for Special teams reasons.

  39. MississipRaider Says:

If Walter McFadden makes this team nd sterling Moore doesn’t or gets signed by some other team then I will be royally pissed!!!

  40. priesttj Says:

Armond, very astute observation, I’ve had that in the back of my mind recently and look at that position and while it’s very talented they are all at or over 30 and that is a real concern. In next years draft we must address that issue early.

I really like what I saw in this years draft but next years draft at that position may be even better. There’s a kid at UW who’s an absolute beast he’s #74 when I was studying Locker I saw the kid. Watch him this year and tell me what you think.

  41. raiderzmaverick Says:

Moore is definitely looking more solid than McFadden so far.
If he keeps making plays like he did in the first pre-season game it’ll be hard to cut him.

  42. raiderzmaverick Says:

We have the youth in the DE position. It’s just DT that we’re going to need to recharge. Shouldn’t be too tough actually as if we get another young DE we could switch Lamarr Houston inside who is very versatile.

What we need is another good run STUFFER (like Henderson) as he probably won’t last many more seasons. I think Seymour and Kelly will be solid for at least a couple more years.

  43. priesttj Says:

Armond also take a look at Alabama’s defense it might be the best defense I’ve ever seen from a personnel standpoint. It talented as well as deep as hell.

  44. omniscience Says:

Top to bottom, I agree with most of your list. I would carry an extra running back (Rankin) and drop one of the receivers – six is plenty to carry. I would also like to see the Raiders keep Cartwright and Myers and perhaps S. Williams for Special Teams. I wouldn’t feel comfortable putting out a list like this until after the third preseason contest, but kudos for “sticking your neck out” a little.

  52. Hagar the Horrible Says:

Truth be told, our offensive line has to be our biggest concern at this point. Even Hue is confused and he’s trying different fits and combinations, etc etc., all in an effort to milk whatever may be left in some of these questionable dudes. Other than Veldheer,
who on our offensive line could be a starter on a top competitive team. I’m not sure, but I would say: NO ONE. Hope I’m wrong, hope someway, somehow, magic can be performed and the square pegs go into the square slots which accomodate them. Then, that they stay healthy and perform. Even Darren Mcfadden, as good as he is, needs some type of a hole to get that starting forward motion that he turns into big gains. If there
is a stone wall in front of him, he’s only human, he’ll crash and burn.

47 players. That leaves 6 spots from the following players.

    my last six..

    DL Jarvis Moss
    LB Quentin Groves
    LB Chris Francis
    LB Darryl Blackstock
    CB Sterling Moore
    S Zac Etheridge

that said, I like OLs Pelc and Parsons as backups and WR Nick Miller and Derek Hagan…

I know Hue Jackosn has a hard on for Kyle Boller, but I’d liked us to keep Charlie Frye…

First, my complements to all who contribute here. This is really a great blog. I would appreciate the answers to a few questions. Sorry this is a bit off topic.
    **
HELLO QODRN, AND WELCOME ABOARD. THIS IS A GREAT SITE, PROBABLY THE BEST ON THE INTERNET. THANKS FOR THE COMPLIMENT AND I WILL TRY AND ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS.

    1. Is there some where to watch the Raider games free that will be most likely blacked out? I used to use ilemi or adthe but they don’t seem to work any more.
    **
SORRY BUT I DONT THINK YOU CAN WATCH IT FOR FREE ANYMORE. ALL THE POWERS THAT BE HAVE DONE EVERYTHING THEY CAN TO SHUT DOWN THOSE ILLEGAL BOOTLEG SITES. WHY SHOUD THEY BE ALLOWED TO GIVE IT AWAY FOR FREE WHEN YOU CAN BE CHARGED AN ARM AND A LEG FOR THE ENTERTAINMENT. BESIDES, ALL GAMES ARE PROPERTY OF THE NFL AND THEIR OWNERS, AND YOU KNOW THEY DONT GIVE THAT SH1T AWAY FOR FREE.

    2. Do the Raiders ever wear a silver jersey? I love their home uni, but the road one always makes me wonder what team I am watching.
    **
THE RAIDERS NEVER HAVE OR NEVER WILL WEAR A SILVER JERSEY. WHEN THE RAIDERS ARE ON THE ROAD THEY WILL ALWAYS WEAR SILVER PANTS AND WHITE JERSEYS. THAT IS THEIR ROAD COLOR. NOW, IF THEY ARE PLAYING THE PUTRID MIAMI DOLPHINS ON THE ROAD, OUR RAIDERS WILL WEAR BLACK JERSEYS AND WHITE PANTS SINCE THE PUTRID AND DISGUSTING MIAMI DOLPHINS WEAR THEIR WHITE TOPS AT HOME, AND THOSE SOFTBALL GREEN PANTS. LOOK FOR THE RAIDERS TO WEAR BLACK JERSYES IN DALLAS TOO.

    3. Since the players don’t get paid for training camp, what does the team pay for exactly? Do the players get eating money? Nothing? Do other sports pay for training camps? Do the players really get nothing if they don’t make the team?
    **
WHAT DOES THE TEAM PAY FOR? WELL, FIELD MAINTENANCE FOR ONE, HOTEL FEES AND BUS SERVICE FOR THE ROOKS, FRONT OFF ICE PERSONEL, SECURITY, PERKS, ALL KINDS OF THINGS. JUST USE YOUR IMAGINATION. SOME PLAYERS GET MONEY YEAR ROUND, A SALARY SO TO SPEAK BROKEN INTO 12 PAY PERIODS, PLUS MOST GET PAID ON GAME DAY, AND OTHERS DONT GET PAID AT ALL BUT THEY DO GET TO EAT. AND THE EATIN IS GOOD. REAL GOOD. BUT MOST GOOD TEAM OWNERS WILL GIVE A STIPEND OF SOME SORT TO MOST OF THE PLAYERS, AND WHEN THEY ARE EVENTUALLY CUT, THEY MAY GET A BUS TICKET HOME, OR A LITTLE CASH, SORT OF LIKE WHEN YOU LEAVE PRISON.

    4. Is it better to see a game in the baseball config or the football config?
    **
FOOTBALL NO FKING DOUBT. BASEBALL IS ALWAYS EMPTY AND YOU FEEL LOST IN SUCH A BIG PARK, ESPECIALLY WITH ALL THE NEW BASEBALL STADIUMS, THE A’S HAVE TO BE THE LAST TEAM TO PLAY IN SUCH A DUMP. NOW IN ORDER FOR THE RAIDERS GAME TO BE SEEN IN THE BETTER CONFIGURATION, THE STADIUM NEEDS TO BE SOLD OUT, SO IT IS IMPORTANT THAT ALL FANS START TO ATTEND AND FILL THE PLACE UP. VERY IMPORTANT.

    Thank you very much.
    NO PROBLEM.

  64. JB Says:

Big John has a limited gas tank. He’ll need to be replaced sooner than later. I asked a question a day or two ago about BCampbell and his viability as a DT. He has the size & strength and did play 2 years on the defensive side of scrimmage. Is DT a possible career path for him? He impresses me as someone who might fare well at stuffing runs given the right coaching. I’m not sure where his best value to the team may really lie. We can find useable guards but finding a top notch run stuffing DT is a much harder find.

  65. JB Says:

    Site must be down again.

  66. RAIDERMAN99 Says:

Based on his play last week, it’s hard to believe WMAC is a lock.

I’m sure Steve has a reason for stating that he’s certainly going to make the squad. Obviously, (Hue !) Corkran gets to see the practices we don’t and is privy to what the coaching staff is thinking.

WMAC looked like a decent prospect during the preseason last year. I was pretty high on him. Then came the torching against Miami and last weeks game against the Cards.

Easy to sour on the guy, forget he’s still very raw and inexperienced, and write him off.

The staff has to see something we haven’t yet.

I remember the first preseason CJ37 played with the Raids. The announcers mentioned him and spoke about his speed. He looked TERRIBLE out there. I’m thinking to myself, ‘I don’t care how fast this cat is, he can’t play, and has no chance of making the squad or ever being any good’.

Turns out that CJ has had a pretty good career, and I now consider him one of the better corners in the NFL.

Only you guys don’t know it. We’re better at that position and deeper than we have been in yearscertainly deeper than last year. The Raiders will be as good as their O-line. The importance of having that line come together as a dominating unit can not be understated. It will make all the difference in the world.

This entire league is based on performance if anyone knows it Camp does you are only as good as your last game. The notion that he can’t handle competition is foolish what he can’t stand is a coach who has no clue what he’s doing. If Edwards beats him out he deserves to sit……….period

    NO PROBLEM.

    ——————————

Edwards had a dog-sh1t line and a foul situation. Sort of like Plunkett had when he was the the Patriots.

Uncle Al saw something in Edwards that he liked when he signed him, and I’m sure he liked what he saw last week.

  107. ghostraiders Says:

Edwards going to be our back up QB… no doubt about that… And hopefully we dont have any qb controversy///That means jc better do well

You know what I want to see, Coffee Break? I want to see JC complete a bomb to DHB then run down to the CB, get in his face, and say “You want more? We’ll be here all day!”

Screw it, man. Take the unsportsmanlike. Just once. Sometimes a penalty is worth it. I bet the entire team would respond to a move like that.

Some folks here like to hate on Grads. Heck, I agree that he’s not the best option. The guy is lacking in the physical tools department and gets injured too easily. But one thing you have to give him credit for. The man knew how to fire up the troops. The only problem is he let it get to his head and started taking on defenders twice his size head on. lol. You have to be smart about it too.

They need to get cocky. Play the game like they own it. Take what they want. Make everyone hate them again.

  109. alex7 Says:

Ryan Fitzpatrick took that same Buffalo O-line and foul situation and threw for 3,000 yards and 20+ TDs. Edwards went to Jax and looked terrible again despite Jones-Drew and a solid O-line.

It’s like blaming JC’s benchings in Washington on his situation (all-pro RB, TE, LT, quality WR). It’s the QB, not the “situation”.

The QB makes or breaks the “situation.”

  110. Coffee Break Says:

All I care about is Hue builds a bully and JC has an attitude, and Seymour draws a technical now and then, and the o-line can open holes.

Anyone remember Plunkett q-bing against the bills in buffalo and a bills defender jumped off sides and decked plunk, and two raider o-lineman picked that basturd up and walked him 10 yards and body slammed him. those were tough raiders. I dont remember much else about that game.

Satele was re-signed by the team and has been taking snaps as the starting center while Wisniewski has practiced at left guard. Wisniewski is comfortable at both spots, having played both in college. He would replace Robert Gallery, who had gone from disappointment at tackle to the team’s most reliable offensive lineman at left guard.

The special teamers and gunners are overrated this year especially with the new kicking at the 35 yard line rule. Jano is gonna blast the recordbook and the kickoff team is just going to get some excercise jogging upfield and snarling. We can afford to go light on S/T only players.

Lofa brings great experience, and maturity to a position in need of mentoring. Cut Sam W.

    Alex,

Agree to a certain extent. a franchise QB has the ability to will his team to victory regardless of the supporting cast.

Peyton Manning or Tom Brady could have went 12-4 with an O-Line like Veldheer-Gallery-Satele-Carlisle-Walker and a WR Corps like Schilens-DHB-Murphy-Ford-Higgins

Jason Campbell went 8-8. That’s what you get with an average QB. You’re forced to upgrade EVERYBODY around him, instead of just him!

Supporting cast changes on offense –

Gone: Tom Cable, Paul Hackett, Ted Tollner, Gradkowski, Higgins, Zmiller, Gallery, Henderson, Walker

Added: Al Saunders, Trent Edwards, Denny Moore, Kevin Boss, Wiz II, Barksdale, Heyer

Are these big enough upgrades to give us 4 more wins with a much tougher schedule?

    ==================================================

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++

AGREED! Well said fellas. Life ends the same way for us all. He loves the Raiders as we all do. That is the only thing we have in common. And that is ok. I wish him the very best and I want him to see the return to dominance. He certainly deserves it.

I don’t understand why DVD is seen as a ‘lock’? Granted, he looked good in staying with maybe the best WR in football, but he didn’t make the play. On other throws to his side, he seemed like a spectator. Waiting for the guy to catch the ball and tackle him, rather than stepping up and breaking it up. He’s got a lot of learning to do. I want to keep him on the roster, but I don’t think his work is ‘lockworthy’.

yeah, I don’t see anybody taking his spot – especially when Trevor Scott hasn’t even sniffed the field yet

Lol, uh yeah….I can’t start singing the praises of the 2011 rookies after 1 portion of a preseason game.

And last year’s draft class, other than Houston I don’t see any guaranteed great players. Ford has some ability in the return game, but as a WRs hasn’t proven anything yet. You know I think McClain is average at best. Veldheer had tons of penalties and gave up a bunch of sacks.

    ——————————————————-

I think hiding behind the last 8 year argument is pretty shallow. You need to dig a little deeper and look year by year.

I didn’t expect much when our players got old after the SB run. A couple years of being bad was to be expected.

I thought the Randy Moss trade was a damn good one, at the time it was made. I thought we had some decent talent on the field with Collins, Moss, Jordan, etc. Thought Norv should’ve been able to put up some points.

I WAS beating a drum for a “New GM” after the bed and breakfast debacle and the Sarkisian mess. Was pretty excited when Al hinted in a presser that he had been working with someone and thought he needed a full time GM. Thought the whole Cable hiring was a JOKE!

    BUT …

I can admit that the last few drafts and this current coaching staff SEEM to have us heading in the right direction. Not really sure how much more you can ask of a GM.

And yes we do still need someone in place to take over for Al. I say that simply due to apparent health issues.

LOL Dakota, Ford is even better than Houston.

Too bad our “incompetent” GM missed on the Ryan Clady pick…

    +++++++++++++++

I like Ford and I have high hopes for him, but wake me when he at least matched James Jett’s rookie numbers.

In 1 start and limited action his rookie year Jett had 33 receptions for 771 yards and 3 TDs…Ford in 9 starts had 25 receptions, 470 yards and 2 TDs.

I think hiding behind the last 8 year argument is pretty shallow. You need to dig a little deeper and look year by year.
    ++++++++++++++

I think quite the opposite. I am questioning his abilities as a GM. I think that a 20 year sample period, or so, more clearly reflects his abilities as a GM than does the past two drafts. Don’t be a captive of the recency effect Jhill.

  230. Bo Schembechler Jackson Says:

James Jett’s rookie numbers? You’re railin on Ford’s lack of rookie productivity, yet when DMAC couldn’t outplay Vance Mueller (except in fumbling) you blamed Tom Cable.

The difference is that Branch wasn’t a top ten pick making top ten money. If DHB can hold his own in the pecking order, then fine. I have no problem with that. But if keeping him in the lineup as OTJ training is keeping a guy like Moore on the bench, it will be Hue’s undoing.

Clearly Cable’s affinity for Justin Fargas & Kwame Harris, and allowing McFadden only 7 carries per game and his horrible play calling had an profound affect on McFadden’s first couple of years.

Deep within the bowels of the Legion of Doom (Oakland Raiders Headquarters – Alameda, CA), the Supreme Commander of the Silver & Black prepares for the looming gridiron battle with his nemesis west of the Great Bay and summons his trusty lap dog…

    AL (into intercom): Herrera!!

John Herrera pushes through a small door in the wall, barely tall enough for a toddler to walk under, and scurries up to the Supreme Commander’s desk — which is no smaller than Napoleon’s Tomb and twice as old. It’s coated with dust and littered with empty KFC bags, novelties of yesteryear (such as a Rolodex and a rotary telephone), and a Raiders coffee mug with “Oakland” crossed off in faded ink, “Los Angeles,” handwritten, crossed off in a slightly darker shade, “Oakland,” also handwritten, crossed off in fresh black, with “????” scribbled below that.

    Herrera (Saluting): Yes, Sir!

AL: Jawn, Ah’ve told you a million times, get the Pampers… Huggies chafe (shifts in his seat).

Herrera: You have, Mr. Davis and I apologize for being the complete fool that I am. Your sheer football slash business genius only serves to shame me further.

AL: Quit being a kiss-a$$, you know I can’t stand that.

Herrera begins to say something, but thinks better of it and stays tight lipped.

AL (cont’d): And you were wrong about Heywuhd-Bey, he’s been awful his first two years.

Herrera: Sir, I-I, b-but, everyone in the building said it was a reach—

    AL: Don’t interrupt me, stupid!

Herrera: Yes, Sir, Mr. Davis! Uh, I mean no Sir!

AL: Jeezuhs, this cole slaw is running right through me (**FART**)

Herrera (under his breath): Good God.

    Al: Heh?!

    Herrera: You’re God.

Al: Tell that to ol’ Pete Rozelle.

Al points a bony finger at a picture of the former commissioner on the wall — with a mustache and fangs drawn on — currently being used as a dartboard.

Al: Pr;ck.. And don’t you forget it, either, you (now pointing at Herrera) – long as I keep signing the checks. You know I spare no expense here, Jawn.

Al takes a big carnivore bite from a KFC drumstick.

Herrera: No Sir! Uh, yes Sir!

Al chucks the half-eaten drumstick at Herrera, which hits him square in the face.

    Herrera: Ow!

Al: Get the he11 outta here, you schmu¢k.

Herrera backs his way to his little door, graveling and makes his exit.

Al picks up the phone receiver.

    AL: Operator! (pause) Oh, yeah.

Al flips through his Rolodex, finds the number, and then turns back to his rotary phone and cranks out the number with great effort.

    AL: Damn new-fangled technology.

    HUE: Hello?

AL: Hue, I need to see you right away, when can you be here?

HUE: Actually just walked in the building, I’ll be up there in a minute, Mr. Davis.

After a minute, the main door opens and in swaggers Hue Jackson, newly-anointed head coach of the Silver and Black.

HUE: Hey, Mr. Davis, how you doin’?

AL: Have a seat, Hue, we gotta talk.

HUE: Oh? OK, then – what about?

AL: This forty time is unacceptable. Nobody works for me is gonna run like this. (Into intercom) Herrera!

Herrera drops from a trap door in the ceiling, dressed in a black jumpsuit and holding a silver coffee pitcher, suspended on a wire (a la Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible). He stops just above Al’s desk and refills his coffee mug.

Once the coffee’s refreshed, Herrera unhooks himself and stands rigid at Al’s side looking down at Hue with disgust.

Hue is speechless, staring at the two of them with his mouth open and eyes wide.

AL: I am partial to theater. Jawn! — (snaps fingers) report.

Herrera (handing a clipboard to Al): Sir.

Al flips through some pages and then looks up disapprovingly at Hue.

HUE (regaining composure now): Well, just lemme know who it is and I’ll go kick some butt, Mr. Davis.

    AL: You.

    HUE: Come again?

AL: Herrera here clocked you yesterday on the field when you were running with the DBs. Five-eight?

HUE: Mr. Davis, I was jogging along while they were – I didn’t even see John out there yesterday.

Herrera: I have my ways, little man.

HUE: I KNEW I saw that bush had moved spots! Rod said I was paranoid. Herrera, you’re such a little snitch, man.

Herrera sticks his tongue out at Hue.

AL: Herrera’s got himself under five flat, Hue.

HUE: You mean to tell me you’re scouting your coaching staff and front office people?! What about Cable?

AL: Tim could do 25 reps on the bench.

HUE: This is ridiculous. I mean, you hear stories, but godDANG, this is crazy. I don’t need this. I have a hard enough time with a family, trying to get camp organized, telling customer service people I’m not the guy who played Wolverine—

Herrera (giddy): Or the hero from Kate and Leopold!

Both Al and Hue slowly turn to Herrera with an eyebrow raised. Herrera looks at the floor in shame.

    HUE: Amy Trask?

AL: Amy’s our best athlete. She hit 4.5 the other day in HEELS. She’s also got a 28 inch vertical.

Herrera (wolfish): And she’s not bad on the pole drill, either, heh heh heh.

AL: I’m not aware of that one, is that some sort of new drill?

A young assistant barges in with an urgent look on his face.

ASSITANT: Stan from accounting just tore his ACL in an Oklahoma!! He’s in the copy room, it’s a bloody fukkin’ mess!

I really like the fact our first two preseason games are against 3-4 defenses and then against a 4-3 vs NO. It will give us even more evaluation angles for the upcoming season……Denver 4-3 will stink but our next 4 games vs Buf,NYJ,NE and Houston are all blitzing 3-4 defenses

    ————

I know there was a lot of talk about the nuber of 3-4 defenses we played last year and how we’d do.

Our record against division 3-4s (one of which was awful, one good, one great) was 6-0.

    STL and Seattle both 4-3.

As far as losses — Steelers, Miami (I think), SF were 3-4.

I think the issue of 3-4 v. 4-3 is not a significant one. We were some minor adjustments away from a W in SF and against Miami.

  386. 18yearsold18yearfan Says:

Uhm Karlos Dansby showed he could be a productive player from the start of his rookie year and was franchised twice. Eric Weddle had 127 tackles in his 2nd season and had 10 passes defended last year. Schaub and Kolb are both qb’s different rules apply to them but they both showed something as backups, and imo that Kolb contract was a bad deal.

The very foundation of fashion for adolescents is to piss off adults. I’d say the “frohawk” is at least in part owed to the anger it instills in men of generation x, who came of age in the late ’80s and early ’90s, when social circles were rigidly divided by race, when there were styles distinctive to each race, and when you were ridiculed for adopting a style of another race. Times have changed. Adapt, accept, or be bitter. Those are your 3 options.

LOL…speaking of Niners…I remember in 02 when they won in OT…this big dude, like 6′7 or something, was wearing a TO jersey sticking finger at everybody. Then he disappeared in Lot A. Found out that he stuck finger at my Tongan friend and that guy got knocked out and got pushed under a truck…lol Some people these days…

    *************************

I promise you 6′7 and all he wouldnt have did that to me

  546. LA to TheBay Says:

Thanks, Plunk, I figured you’d dig that little tale.

    Speaking of which…

    Reprinted for the afternoon crowd:

    The End.

  547. hwnrdr Says:

Funny thing about that was he was runnig out of the gate doing that…why’d he stop running when he saw my Tongan friend and have the nerve to stick finger in his face is beyond me…too funny!

    _________________________________________________________
Wouldnt be a bad investment. The Nnamdi distaste will wear off after we go to the playoffs these next few years, and wearing a Nnamdi jersey down the line will be no different than wearing a Woodson jersey. I still have a Woodson authentic that I bought for $40 after he left, and at the time no one wanted to touch one, but now, wearing a clean authentic Woodson is a win. Itll be the same for a Nnamdi 5 years from now. Might as well cop, unless you dont plan on being a Raiders fan in 5 years, which Im sure isnt the case.

NAPA VALLEY, Calif. — It’s looking more and more likely that rookie Stefen Wisniewski will start right away. The surprise is that he likely will be at left guard and not at center, the position coach Hue Jackson anointed him the starter the day the Raiders selected him in the second round.

Incumbent center Samson Satele has played so well in practice and in Oakland’s first exhibition game the Raiders are contemplating making room for both players.

Wisniewski played mostly guard in college, which makes it a logical decision to have him begin his NFL career there, too. Jackson said he wants to go with his five best offensive linemen, regardless of their natural positions. He feels as if Satele and Wisniewski are among those five.

Notes: Jackson is thrilled with how well quarterbacks Trent Edwards and Kyle Boller have performed the first two-plus weeks of camp. Their arms are healthy, they are up to speed with the offense and they give Jackson three veteran quarterbacks on his roster, in case something happens to unquestioned starter Jason Campbell. Edwards and Boller are competing for the primary backup spot, with the battle too close to call. Both played well in Oakland’s first exhibition game, and they are giving Jackson reason to think that he is set at quarterback this season.

If he can get a starting LT in the 3rd from Hillsdale, a group of solid, young WRs in 4th, 5th, 7th round, steal LaMarr Houston in the second, steal Wimbley for a 3rd (although we did end up paying for him eventually), get ShoNasty in the 3rd or 4th — I think the old man can still draft. At least we ahve the tools for and outstanding Oline but now we have assemble it a nd let it gel. The best Olines aren’t the most talented but the most cohesive. Indy’s line has subpar talent but they are so cohesive they perform much better than the sum of their parts.

I feel the coaching and handling of JC is going to bode very well if he has time. I saw long flashes of higlevel performance from JC last year unfortunately it was late in the year and intermingled to an extent with lessthan stellar play. Saunders comment that he came here because of Camp shed soem seriou light on the kids talent. This offense is not for the faint of the faint of heart or those incapable of making impressive throws. You have to be able to make some stick throws because it doesn’t get players wide open like the WCO it provides for favorable matchups but not the 3 yard passes to a wide open WR. You gave to play QB in the old sense of the word.

Many here speak in terms of JC being a game manager well that may be true but in this offense he has to make some throws. Checkdowns are available but it ask the QB to make throws downfield with some real accuracy. that’s why when I read Saunders commensts it opened my eyes a bit. Because I definitely see his ability to do it. I’ve been brainwashed to a certain extent to believe he is more of a safe passer (checkdown artist) well Saunders comments belie that assumption. I watched the agme again and watched JC read and I see exectly what he means. He throws the dig route as well as anyone. That throw he made to DMoore was a perfect example of that. It was accurate and on time and that route is a staple of the verticle game. Along with the route that #6 ran for Edwards which is a deep post. JC threw that vs the Chiefs at home in OT to Ford and won the game.

IOW he definitely ahs it in him he just needs to players around him and the system to help him exploit it. This just might be the right time the right players and the right coaches. So we’ll see….

But I think we’ll have a nice little rotation going on at WR this year. I’m one of these cats that think DHB could still turn out to be a good WR.

He has great speed, obviously, good route runner, great blocker, hard worker, chip on his shoulder.

He needs to have more fluidity. In particular catches while on the move. He can go up and reach for em, and he can get them when he sits down in between a zone, but his game is not yet complete.

  676. Davy Jones Says:

DHB gets special treatment because he’s a drafting black eye for Davis, and Davis wants every chance to have the last laugh if DHB can turn into a better player than Crabtree. To let DHB go is to admit defeat. Don’t think that’s not a part of Huff’s resigning as well.

Too bad, because Davis as a GM deserves more credit than he gets. If he’s fumbled the first round a few times this decade, he KILLS it in the middle rounds: Bush, Branch, Shaughnessy, Veldheer, Ford, Moore.

    ROG,

    I don’t care if Owens is only 50 %

I GUARANTEE you that he’d produce more than the guys we got … even if he started the season 4th on the WR depth chart behind Ford, Murphy & Moore

    DHB, Schilens & Miller? Puhleeze

  679. Master Beeecham Says:

Brian the Genital, I got you all riled up! So easy to do, my little minion. When I say jump … well, you know what happens next.

What’s that you say about Labor Day? Another empty threat, pretty much your mo for the last 6 months. But I gotta thank you, Genital – my ladies and I are having an awesome laugh at you right now!

Yo bizzies I got the dj station rocking the penthouse, the PARTYBRO is flowing island style Mai Tais and a few Magnums tucked safely in my headband.

    WHAT WHAT

  683. Twocents Says:

“The State, in the words of Oppenheimer, is the “organization of the political means”; it is the systematization of the predatory process over a given territory. For crime, at best, is sporadic and uncertain; the parasitism is ephemeral, and the coercive, parasitic lifeline may be cut off at any time by the resistance of the victims. The State provides a legal, orderly, systematic channel for the predation of private property; it renders certain, secure, and relatively “peaceful” the lifeline of the parasitic caste in society. Since production must always precede predation, the free market is anterior to the State. The State has never been created by a “social contract”; it has always been born in conquest and exploitation. The classic paradigm was a conquering tribe pausing in its time-honored method of looting and murdering a conquered tribe, to realize that the time-span of plunder would be longer and more secure, and the situation more pleasant, if the conquered tribe were allowed to live and produce, with the conquerors settling among them as rulers exacting a steady annual tribute.” Murray Rothbard

Murray was a Raider fan. (Just kidding)

Little Brian the Genital isn’t going to fight anyone. He’s had an open invitation to come rumble here at the Ritz pool for weeks and he’s ran for the hills everytime!

PLUS I promised that as soon as I finished slapping him around I’d let him have a free Mai Tai from the PARTYBRO 8500 and keep the commemorative mug for only $39.95 extra.

Even that wasn’t enough for the scared little wuss.

The problem is, when he was growing up his mommy told him that his girlish figure was the same as Raider CBs and WRs. So even though he grew up weak and petite, he still thought he could mess with the big dawgs.

    Poor little Brian, huh dudes?

    *****************************************

LOL this is last month yall……he said weeks now a month later it turns into 6 months? You are getting caught in your lies Beecher

  689. Master Beeecham Says:

Brian, does it ever get old?

You know, dutifully showing up in the blog, getting humiliated by me at every turn, soundly slapped into submission, then getting up the next day and going through it all over again?

    Please say no

  690. priesttj Says:

    Just say N.O to T.O. don’t need him……….period

Dmoore is a much more exciting and talented rec’r who just needs reps and giving those reps to some broken down overhyped fathead is a waste of time.

  691. Master Beeecham Says:

Genital, I couldn’t have paid you enough to post another of my classic blog beat downs of you! Thanks for doing it for free.

Seriously … does anyone doubt anymore that I own Brian, signed sealed and delivered?

If you say yes, you need a few drinks from the PARTYBRO 8500 Mai Tai Magic Maker!

  696. alex7 Says:

T.O. is a loser? The guy has been to the playoffs more times than anyone on the Raiders roster save Seymour.

The guy works his a$$ off, that’s anti-cancer.

Eagles and Cowboys had their best years in a decade when T.O. was there.

His worst season ever was better than our WR’s best season ever. He would easily outproduce Murphy, Schilens, Miller, and DHB.
