Raiders confirm: Pryor signs

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Thursday, August 25th, 2011 at 11:04 pm in Oakland Raiders.

The following message arrived from the Raiders via Twitter at 11 p.m.:

QB Terrelle Pryor signs his contract. He will be on the field in Napa tomorrow morning.

Here’s a link. Even has Pryor signing his contract, assuming it’s not a prop or a Saints-Raiders press release.

It was also announced on the Raiders Web site.

Amazing how that worked out. Pryor signs at a point right when camp is breaking up, allowing Camp Hue to focus on the team without a sideshow. When Pryor really gets cranking in practice so the coaching staff can see what he’s got, practice will be closed to the media.

Good call, actually. In terms of P.R. strategy and media perception, the best and most shrewd Raider camp I can remember . . .

    What’s up with Chaning Crowder?

  3. Try Some Reality Says:

Prior doesn’t count against the 53 until after the suspension.

  4. Chris in NY Says:

Hope to see Bruce Campbell play a full quarter with the starters on Sunday.

  5. The Realist Dirty Raccoon Says:

We mist appeal Pryor’s suspension! He signed only a 4 year contract. Year 1 will be a wash. So only Three years to reap the benefits before we either have to pay him BIG bucks, or lose him to Philly!

  6. lefty12 Says:

TSR-if that is the case,I wonder if we are allowed to keep an extra body during the preseason.Otherwise when the final cuts are made we’d be one player short,if you get what I’m trying to say.

  7. J Hill Says:

At least if Cooper started between Wiz and Barks, they would have a wily vet while they got their feet wet.

    —————————————————

    Lefty,

Looks like Wiz is going to start at LG.

Do you really keep Beast on the bench because Barksdale beat out Barnes?

You wouldn’t have a problem with Beast at RG with the vets Satele and Barnes on either side of him?

    Just trying to clarify.

  8. Chris in NY Says:

Crowder could be an interesting option. Tatupu a better player, health permitting. Gotta make some kind of moves to shore up the LB position. Might be waiting to see what becomes available after cuts though.

  9. JB Says:

Looking forward to see how Drew Brees does against the 1’s. I think he’s a great QB and will certainly expose any of our weak links on the D. It should prove to be a good learning/teaching tool.

If he turns out to be the real deal, Uncle Al won’t lose him. Nobody pays better than AD. And, by then, the team should be a real force within the league. I say he’ll be fairly inactive for at least years – if they are smart and develop him correctly.

  11. Try Some Reality Says:

Lefty – Yep, we get to keep one extra until he has finished serving his suspension, at which point we need to drop someone to make room for him.

  12. lefty12 Says:

J Hill,I want to see more of BC before deciding. As you know,I’m not as down on CC as you and a lot of others.I believe as of now, we might be better off starting Wiz and Barks, let them get at least a few games under their belts, then bring BC in.If BC hadn’t missed so much early work it would probably be a different story.

    ——————————

That’s a good point. Man, just 3 years. I don’t see him taking over next year so maybe just 2? Then again, if he rips it up in those 2 years then he’d have earned whatever he gets in order to keep him here.

In the end, probably still way too early to be worrying about it. Good point nonetheless.

  14. JB Says:

Heyer is a much better candidate for LG. Wiz should be targeted to become the starting center for the next 8-10 years. Develop him for that job and replace Satele when Wiz is REALLY ready.

Asomugha’s deal included a little-known clause that said his contract would void if he didn’t achieve his not-likely-to-be-earned incentives in 2010 — and he didn’t.

His contract also contained a stipulation that if he didn’t achieve his incentives, the Raiders would agree not to designate him their franchise or transition player.
To achieve his incentives, Asomugha had to play in a greater number of defensive plays in 2010 than he did in 2009, and this season Asomugha played in only 14 games whereas he played in all 16 in 2009.

He also could have achieved his incentives by improving upon on his interceptions, fumble recoveries or sacks this season — but he didn’t have any interceptions, fumble recoveries or sacks this season.

Asomugha needed EITHER 1 SACK OR 1 FR OR 2 INT

    TSR,so when the 1st cuts come,instead of 75 we can keep 76?

    =====================================

Good question. Not entirely sure but I think we’re limited to 75 right now since he is allowed to play in the preseason games. I think he only becomes an exclusion once his suspension begins. Could be wrong though.

  20. J Hill Says:

I’m not as down on CC as you keep saying I am, lol. Guilt by association last year is all with him playing next to Satele and Walker.

I’ve given him his props for the way he has played this preseason and through camp and until recently agreed that he should remain the starter.

But Beast moving people around is something this line needs. I’m now to the point where I need to see Beast against NOs #1s. I don’t agree with the idea of his first action against 1s being in a game that counts. We need to find out now.

The Oline working together and becoming a cohesive unit is as important as QBs getting their timing with their WRs.That is what I’ve been so frustrated about so far this preseason. We can’t possibly go into the season with the unit that has been starting so far,can we?

  27. The Realist Dirty Raccoon Says:

    JB, just like Nnamdi??

We need 2 years of solid starting experience before we give him an extention right?? And a reputable team would extend their franchis QB during the last playing year of the rookie contract, right? That means he needs to get playing time this year, and START at some point next year.

The Raiders will not be a “Dynasty” again until we solve our QB situation. Pryor may or may not be the answer. If we get a shot at a better prospect in the First round next Draft, we must pull the trigger! Having two good QB’s never hurt any team. Just look how SD did with Breese then swung a draft day deal to land Rivers.! Talk about SHREWD! That tasted like an Al Davis move, except he hasnt done like that in many years.

    ::::::::::

Yep, we still need to add a guy in the next draft. We will need a LG.
Future Oline will look like this.
    Veldheer-LG-Wiz-Barksdale-Campbell

I believe by this time next year Campbell will be the RT, and Barks will move to RG. Either way the right side future looks good, ad does LT, and C.
With our 1st pick next year we need to draft the best QB we can, or parley it into a solid LG, and CB

  29. DonManoukiansNeighbor Says:

Pryor needs to hire the best QB coach out there after the reg season starts to work on his game. He cant practice with the team during those 5 games.

    ***********************

NO. Your concern is noted and accurate. BIG UGLIES operating as a single unit is ultra-important. We need to get the real starters together now. I guess we’ll see where Hue’s head is at on Sunday.

  40. lefty12 Says:

DMN,I don’t want to see him this year. That would mean besides trying to rush him,we’d be in the tank record wise.Don’t wish to see either.

  41. DonManoukiansNeighbor Says:

Doesnt have to be full time. Few plays here and there.

  42. DonManoukiansNeighbor Says:

As big as he is he can fill that LB void.

  43. DonManoukiansNeighbor Says:

Anyone know what he got paid?

  44. JB Says:

I was really upset that we passed on Marcus Cannon a monster guard in the 5th round. He had a medical problem but it was one that can be fixed. He was then drafted by the Pats. He will be a Pro Bowler one day. In retrospect, I guess I’ll get over it because I think that’s the pick that we used for D-WOW.

We have the personnel we need for a dominant line now. We just need to get them all on the line at the same time. Maybe Hue should just read our comments on this blog and then he’d get it right. LOL

  45. lefty12 Says:

DMN-you notice and read some of the ridiculous things that are on here.If he were to play at all and have even limited success, too many clowns would be calling for him-on here and at the games- and it could disrupt the team chemistry, assuming we have good chemistry.Let him just sit and soak in everything he possibly can, then come out next year and compete.

  46. JB Says:

Doesn’t Soup have a 2 year contract? I think that’s what he got. If he’s successful, I don’t think we’ll see Pryor actually competing until 2013. And, that’s entirely OK if we are winning with the current crew.

  47. lefty12 Says:

I thought his contract was up after this year,as are Bollers and Edwards. At least that is what everyone on here always says.

  48. JB Says:

If that’s true AD will extend him as long as he’s winning. AD has never really worried about the bucks. It’s just Win Baby, Win.

  49. alex7 Says:

If BC and Bark (both whom I’m high on) are both starting on the right side Sunday, the Raiders will get overwhelmed with stunts and blitzes on that side.

  52. alex7 Says:

JC will be extended regardless – there is no better option. He and oakland could play better this year than last yet go 6-10 because of the tough schedule.

Let out be known, Cleveland and Detroit are no joke, Houston and Miami have run over us the last few years, the Minnesota Peterson match-up doesn’t bode well for us, and none of the 4 playoff teams we have this year (GB, NE, NYJ, CHI) have lost much talent.

Between going 8-8 and missing the playoffs, and going 6-10 with an outside chance at Barkley or Jones…

  60. Hagar the Horrible Says:

A small key to sunday night’s game, yet important because of what the Cardinals did to us is winning the coin toss and receiving the ball. If you can eat up 6 to 9 minutes and score 7 points, then we’re in a dog fight we can win. We don’t need to play from behind and get all panicked since we’re playing brees and company, and we don’t want NO to eat up the clock and score before us.

The Cardinals holding the ball for 13 1/2 munites in the opening quarter…killed us!

  62. GG Says:

Pryor receives a $586,000 signing bonus, and a base salary of $375,000 (pre-suspension). In 2012, he’ll earn $485,000, and he’s eligible to earn a $20,300 incentive based on playing time. In 2013, the salary is $595,000 with a $40,700 play-time incentive. In 2014, the salary moves to $645,000, with a $61,100 play-time incentive.

  63. RaiderRetribution Says:

Mr. Heyer might be too valuable as a back up for either offensive tackle positions (to start him at guard), if Mr. Barksdale starts at RT and Mr. Barnes is cut.

  64. RaiderRetribution Says:

Mr. McFadden’s & Mr. Bush’s run style is more suited to power blocking scheme; take ball head for the end zone!

  65. RaiderRetribution Says:

I wonder if the Raiders will use that back door pitch to Mr. Jones or Mr. McFadden like they used to with Mr. Bo Jackson.

  66. RaiderRetribution Says:

    an appeal would probably only reduce his suspension by one or two games anyway, so no reason to create an unnecessary media onslaught;

    I believe he has 3 days to appeal after he signed his contract;

    he is going to need at least 3-4 weeks of football conditioning anyway before he is ready for practice and playing in the regular season;

I hope we do see him play qb in Seattle for a series or two.

  67. Buckeyeraider Says:

    G’morning fellas.

The week 3 dress rehersal ought to give the Raiders the ultimate barmoter of where they stand. The young, revamped secondary gets put to the test by Drew Brees and NO’s prolific passing attack.

On the other side of the ball, we’ll get to see how well they can pick up the blitz, because DC Greg Williams is going to bring it. It sounds like they blitzed the 49′ers on damn near every down, earlier this preseason.

And it all gets played out in front of a national TV audience. I hope Oakland is ready to man up, because the last two times they’ve matched up with the Saints it ain’t been pretty.

  68. Buckeyeraider Says:

Speaking of the blitz, I think most Raider fans should be pleased with the aggressiveness of DC Chuck Bresnehan. Seems most in here moaned about his hiring and that he was not aggressive enough. Too simplistic, etc.

I liked the Marshall plan, but he became enamored with that one blitz, where he brought both safeties…Huff and Branch. It was effective at times, but became too predictable, IMO.

So far in this preseason, we’ve seen the Raiders execute a zone blitz to perfection resulting in the ShoNasty Int. He’s brought nickle blitzes, corner blitzes.

I was watching the Niner game the other day and he was bringing LB’s. RoMac came blasting through on a run blitz and forced Iupati into a holding penalty.

It remains to be seen if Chuck B stays this aggressive in the regular season or not. Maybe he’s trying to get a feel for what works and what doesn’t. Seems to me like he is trying to mix in a lil more zone as well.

I just think a lot of fans who grumbled about his hiring should be pleasantly surprised by his play calling so far.

  69. Buckeyeraider Says:

Now, if they could just work on holding the edges on run D. lol.

Sometimes, that just comes down to execution and players getting off blocks. I agree with damn near everybody else…we need more depth and some new faces at OLB.

Even though I wanted him replaced at MLB last year, I was kinda hoping Capt. Kirk would be brought back as OLB. Sad to see him sign in Buffalo, of all places. Good Gawd.

uh guys—didn’t u notice where bruce and barks were playing last week? left side! the starters have remained the same. and all of this talk about how great bruce and barks are, are u sure? i mean we’ve hardly seen them, they have no experience, and there is a reason they haven’t started.

let’s look at hue’s own words for some insight. he said wiz was the starting C, then backed off that. he said wiz was one of the best 5 but yet he hasn’t started.

bruce was late getting into camp. he never played last year. he was NOT a stud in college relative to his size/speed. he is a PROJECT with no experience and half a camp.

barksdale was NOT a stud in college. he is a big body w/ some skills. hue said he was the “main guy” at RT, yet he has not started. and last week, he was at LT.

it appears that wiz, bruce, and barks are being prepared to be backups that can play multiple positions at this point.

heyer may be in the mix though. he could push barnes for sure, and he may be the reason hue keeps talking about the o-line getting close to being settled. what’s not settled? same 5 guys both games. i think it’s heyer he wants to see more from.

    +++++++

you know whats funny NATION, last year’s weaknesses, Oline, and WR could become the team’s strengths…

Remains to be seen how our Oline shakes out with the youngsters however, you have to like what we have added.
We have younsters battleing with vets…Nice problem to have.

The WR position with the additions of MOORE, and HAGANS are clearly an upgrade over NMILLER, and fools gold.

True we were #2 in the run game however, How was the team at protecting the QB’s?

How did the team run against the top tier defenses, like pitts?

If we didnt have issues with the oline, we would not have drafted and brought in new guys.

We are potentially looking at a major overhaul of the Oline…

Oline cannot be 1 dimesional need to be able to run, and pass block i.e. protect the QB…

Stabler is indirectly the reason I’m a Raiders fan.

My mom is left handed. Watching football growing up, she’d never seen a left handed QB before and thus latched on to Snake and the Raiders and soon became a diehard. (She won’t admit it, but I think she thought he was handsome too)

He’ll be one year ahead of those coming out next year and we actually got him for very little money. Everyone says he’s a very hard worker, gifted and intelligent. The John Gruden tape showed me he understands football and he’s a leader as well…He’s be a winning QB and we have to give Al credit for taking him with the #3 pick.

Namath cannot compare with our “Snake.” Stabler was the man, the QB who could win from behind and under extreme pressure. Namath was just at the right place at the right time (early years of NFL, winning the first super bowl for his conference, his pregame prediction and being well liked as Broadway Joe). In Joe’s particular case, he’s in the HOF because of his “popularity” rather than his “stats” or “accomplishments.

  177. LA to TheBay Says:

I don’t know, we rolled up Orton and smoked him like a White Owl last year.

Tebow had some big success early on in his game, but stayed very one dimensional and couldn’t really do anything beyond the 1st quarter.

But Orton was done in the first half of the first quarter.

I guess this is a good dilhema to have.

  178. RaiderRockstar Says:

Tebow for sure! By all accounts this guy is the 4th best qb on their team and has regressed badly from last year.

Anyone see Jerry’s article about DMAC where he quoted my “McFalldown” moniker? Yeah I came up with that, way back.

I have no doubt that my critiques on DMAC filtered down to the locker room. Inside sources tell me DMAC even named his runt pitbull “Bo” and that the poor puppy gets kicked a lot after losses.

I consider myself a Remote Assistant Coach – Running Backs. Al should really make it official already.

    Taiwegian Jones for MUP!

    ———–

Clearly. All one has to do is look at his career won-loss and TD-INT and compare it to Snake’s.

Namath is there because of the significanc of his one accomplishment rather than an entire carrer. Than you look at the body of Snake’s work and you wonder how he gets snubbed. There are far too many deserving raiders not in the HOF. Why do sports writers select who goes in? I mean, all you gotta do is listen to these chumps to know most are full of sh’t.

Should be players and coaches, IMO, although I’m not aware of the politics involved, so don;t know if it could ever change or if the NFL Machine would want it changed.

Don’t need the egg, just messes up your grease.

Start with flour and your seasonings. How are you still using regular salt instead of Lawry’s????

Anyway, just add enough milk to your dry seasonings and flour to get a consistency of something similar to pancake batter. Roll you yardbird around in that mixture good and proper like.

Then get a brown paper bag, fill it with flour and more seasonings, and then pull your yardbird outta that mixture and coat it with the flour.

Will be the best fried yardbird you’ve had.

Usually a QB ignores a WR when he makes comments like that, but a talent like Reggie Wayne who usually plays good soldier can get away with it and Collins will be looking his way just as often. Kerry will have to win games to win over Reggie.

I’m sure most of you guys have seen numerous tapes of Pryor and if you have, you must be impressed with the dude. What strikes me is the multiple threats that he poses. We’re going to be hard to stop in the red zone and especially on the goal line. With our speed and numerous threats, plus a QB who can run up the guy after a fake handoff going wide, with a spread formation, he’ll be able to run it in at will. He did it in college all the time. He’s a bruiser to stop and you don’t want to get in his way.

    Big Ted,

The big nickle is basically a man defense that matches Mitchell or Boyd up with a TE like Gates or Davis. They certainly have a better chance in coverage than any of our LBs, but we tend to use that package on 1st and 2nd down. That formation is so easy to run on with McClain as the only LB on the field. You constantly see the other QB audible into runs and they ALWAYS get a minimum of 7 or 8 yds.

That may be, but I was referring to MM34 out there to cover the TE as a LB/NB.

It’s to cover Gates, not stop the run.

  266. HairyBush Says:

    Raiders signed CB Lito Sheppard.
With Chris Johnson (undisclosed) sidelined, the Raiders are looking for some depth. Sheppard was brutal for the Vikings last season and has drawn scant interest on the open market. He brings starting experience to a team that has youngsters DeMarcus Van Dyke and Walter McFadden looking at significant roles.

Brian the Genital, it’s pretty funny how irritated and worked up you get when I get props.

I know your mom said you had the build of an NFL corner of WR instead of a chick to make you feel better, but that’s no reason to be so sensitive and insecure.

Get a massage and a mani/pedi if it’ll calm your hormones, puss.

Brahs you know where to find me, I’m poolside or manning the Reggae Party Boat. These days I’m keeping 3 or 4 Magnums in my headband or sock, so I’m easy to spot.

This weekend is going to be TIGHT, I’ve got the UFC fight streaming live on the cruise, fresh Norwegian shrimp cocktails and the Peruvian Women’s Tanning Team crashing in the penthouse.

Can anyone tell me what type of shop I can go to and have the name plates changed on my authentic jerseys?

That’s what I’m saying. Still looking, myself.

    Big Ted,

The big nickle is basically a man defense that matches Mitchell or Boyd up with a TE like Gates or Davis.
    **************
Boyd can’t play it as well as MM34.

  272. J Hill Says:

Yeah, but if Wimbley and Scott are on the field at the same time, who was MM34 in for?

    Scott Kelly Seymour Wimbley

    McClain MM34

    CJ37 Routt Huff Branch

    ????

Are Houston and ShoNasty really going to come off the field on 3rd downs this year???

Those 2 guys are and should be ever down players.

  273. The Oracle Says:

    Hello Sheppard, goodbye W. Mcfadden.

  274. BigTed707 Says:

You only got 10 guys listed there J-Hill.

    Gotta have:

    Scott Seymour Henderson Shonasty

    MM34 McClain Wimbley

    Cj37 Routt Huff Branch

    Let MM34 cover the TE.
