Raiders place Eugene on injured reserve

By Steve Corkran
Friday, August 26th, 2011 at 5:59 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Note: Something happened to the original post. So, here goes with a rewrite.

The Raiders placed safety and core special-teamer Hiram Eugene on the injured-reserve list Friday, meaning he is out for the season.
Eugene suffered a dislocated hip in the third quarter against the Arizona Cardinals on Aug. 11 and needed surgery to repair the damage.
The cruel irony is, the Raiders weren’t supposed to be on the field when Eugene got hurt. They were on defense because they “chose” to kick off to start the game and the Cardinals “chose” to receive the kick to start the second half. Chose is the word used by the referee to explain why the Raiders kicked off to start both halves.
The Raiders won’t have a difficult time replacing Eugene defensively. Stevie Brown or one of several other options can take his place. Replacing Eugene on special teams won’t be as easy.
Eugene carved out a niche as a dependable special teams player in recent seasons, especially on punt and kick coverage. Several players are vying for the role now.

Anyone who’d listen to Kiffin is lost…………..period

  • priesttj

Mr D knew he hired petty child and regretted it from that day forward he tried to make it work or look good but that kid wanted everything his way. So he found a way to get rid of him and not pay him. Exactly what he deserved.

  • priesttj

We’ve gotten better every year since he was fired.

  • Sweep The Leg.

Just watched some T. Pryor highlights.

He has a good pocket awareness and touch on deep passes.

Now I see why he fits here, he will be the starter next year barring a miraculous 2011 from J. Campbell.

  • priesttj

Give Pryor time guys let the kid grow he’s 22 years old why heap a ton of pressure on that kid before he’s ready JC is a very capable QB. It’s not a requirment for all the fans to like you the only requirement is to win.

  • Sweep The Leg.

JC is an average QB, has some good days, some bad.

Pryors’ upside is much, much higher.

The pressure is comin’. You need a real QB to win big.

  • priesttj

I cannot wait to see Taiwan Jones for him to make me wait this long isn’t fair. I waiting all through the lockout and now all of camp and still haven’t seen him. Damn boy make sure you put some stank on it come Sunday. Do the boogaloo the way we used to do it back in the day. Show them boys they aint seen nothin yet and it’s here to stay.

    Go Raiders like nobody else………..period

  • Hagar the Horrible

Kiffin was young and inexperienced and Al should have realized that from the beginning. That was Al’s mistake. When Sarkisian passed up the job, Kiffen took a home run swing and landed the job. Just “pay-wise” he was a winner. From assistant offensive coordinator to head coach. Can’t blame him for taking the job. Probably about 10 times the salary increase.

Also, in all fairness to Kiffin, he was against the JaFatazz draft choice and is on record as being against it. But, Al thought, JaFatazz was the next coming of John Elway. Also, Kiffin tried to get rid of and and even tried to fire “fatazz Rob Ryan (mr prevent defense himself) but Al stopped it and that’s when things really started going down hill.

It’s a good bet that when we drafted JaFatazz and had Rob Ryan as our defensive coordinator (4 yrs no less) that NO MATTER WHO ARE HEAD COACH would have been, we were going to lose. A major bust at QB who cost us millions, and even held out, plus one of the worst DC around the league.

There are other reasons I’m sure that added to the mess, but you’re wrong (in my opinion) if you feel that Al Davis didn’t play a big part in this mess.

  • priesttj

We don’t reaally know what JC can do because the dude has faced stiff opposition his entire career. he’s in the same system for once and has a mentor he understand and trust and who undeestands and trust him. Al Saunders said he came here because of JC and I believ that and it’s all I need to hear JC obviously recruited him and he came so we’ll see what that brings. Way too early to write the book on JC.

  • NoMoreFargas

Priestt can’t blame people for being excited Pryor is a Specimen so dripping with talent its unreal, Campbell has a ton of weapons and Hue Jackson so were good to go.

    GO RAIDERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • priesttj

In fairness to Kiffin he was a punk of all punks……………period I hate that dude because he came here with alterior motives that much is clear. he came here because he sought to buffalo an old man and take his team.

if you can’t see that then I can’t help ya’

  • NoMoreFargas

Dmac,Bush,Jones,Reece man that is a explosive backfield !

  • Sweep The Leg.

My gut says JC will never be great.

He CAN be very good, but it requires the running game and good pass protection. He will never do it despite those factors.

He has a slow delivery and reaction time.

  • priesttj

No one and I mean no one is more excited than I am about Pryor I touted him for the Raiders B4 anyone even thought of it. I went nuts when we got him and i still cannot believe they did it. So no need to tell me I watch his game films all the time. I have him in 6 games on DVR he’s a beast…………..period

  • Sweep The Leg.

    alterior?

    You mean ulterior.

  • priesttj

he doesn’t have to be great he has to be very good and I think he can be. He’s a lot better than a lot of QB’s that have won SB’s. Rex grossman went to a SB and Trent Dilfer won one. Don’t tell me JC isn’t head and shoulders better than those two jokers.

  • Sweep The Leg.

Trent Dilfer had a unbelievable defense though. Not to mention Jamal Lewis in his prime.

I think JC compares with Dilfer- both are decent QB’s.

  • Hagar the Horrible

    Priesttj…post 111:

I’m sure most of us in here enjoy your comments and opinions…I surely do. And, I agree with most of your takes. So we’ll agree to disagree in regard to the Kiffin mess because it sure turned out to be a mess.

You closed your take by saying that if I can’t see it your way on Kiffin…then you couldn’t help me. Thanks but I don’t need you help.

  • priesttj

That joker that beat us in 2002 couldn’t carry JC’s jock but he won because they protected him with the running game and short dink and dunk passes.

  • priesttj

If you believe anything that comes outta that fools mouth trust me you’re misguided. He’s a pathylogical liar anything he says take it with a grain of salt forget the stuff here I’m just tellin ya’. I talked to too many people who dealt with him on a dailey basis he’s one sick puppy.

  • Sweep The Leg.

It was 2000, and I don’t see JC as much better than him. He is more mobile, but Dilfer was pretty accurate and a good decision maker.

Why do you think JC is so far ahead of him?

I’ll do you one better. We’ve gotten better every year since he was HIRED.

  • priesttj

Mr D has made HUGE misakes there is no getting around it he never should’ve hired that kid and he never should’ve fired Norv Turner IMO. He should’ve mad eArt Shell get a better OC because he never believed in Tom Walsh but he let Art hire him.

Mr D is at full fault for the last 10 years but that has nothing to do with Kiffin being very sick. trust me

  • Sullivan44

Cable was our head coach last year, he was on Kiffin’s staff. He was the only remaining link to Kiffin. So, we got better from the time Kiffin was hired, to the time the last remaining coach on Kiffin’s staff was fired. There’s some facts for your azz.

  • Sullivan44

Al Davis said Kiffin was better than Gruden when he hired him. You’re not going to find a person on the planet, Davis hater or otherwise, who has, or ever had, more praise for Lane Kiffin than Al Davis did when he hired him.

  • ArmChair GM

Priest what kind of Boogaloo did you use to do back in the day?

The James Brown Boogaloo, or the Popping and Locking kind of Boogaloo.

Here in Oakland, the OG’s had a dance called the Boogaloo that was the precursor to a lot of the popular street dances that the kids do today associated with Hip Hop and is seen all over tv…

  • Sweep The Leg.

Beat Street is the king of the beat
You see him rockin’ that beat from across the street
Beat street is a lesson too,
‘Cause you can’t beat the street, if the street beats you.

    WORD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • priesttj

Naw man my boogaloo is from the 60′s james brown, camel walk, hand jive and stuff like that.

  • alex7

McNabb, Freeman, and Rodgers are athletic qbs who were known for their PASSING on college, specifically their accuracy.

Pryor, joe webb, pat white, tebow… athletic qbs whose passing skills needed to be DEVELOPED.

Not good odds with the second group.

Newton is in the first. Breaking sec pass efficiency records is no joke.

  • alex7

I like how ohio raider, raider ray, sullivan, myself and others get linked together simply because we dont drink the kool aid.

Based on the worst 7-year stretch run in nfl history, it’s a compliment to be on that list.

Cable said lines and secondary, so don’t be surprised to see us take Eric Berry at 8 and make some sort of trade (player or pick) to grab Campbell in the mid to late first, 2nd if he slides.

Maybe go after ILB and grab an OT in later rounds.

Cable gets what he wants this year, I think. O Line and D Line and MLB. Al gets his next shutdown CB project and maybe that Ford kid who had the fastest 40 time and everyone’s happy.

Lol, so its not just me who sees this as a forgone conclusion.

Cable could use the most athletic (combine)OT ever and I don’t know if Al can resist the fasted 40 time for an O Lineman or the fastest 40 time period.

For what it’s worth, Cable addressed that notion and said they would take the best football player available and this stuff doesn’t neccecarily equal a good football player.

I’m sure this will apply in rounds 3-7. Hard to believe for the first two.

    =============================================

No, I’m not paid by the Raiders. But, if you asked me my own history, I graduated with a four year degree at 20, bought a house at 19 which is paid off, had a public corporation at 26, and I do what I want from the age of 29 on. The question still stands….what have you ever done?

    ^^^^^^^^
Wow, Seymour Bush….you just proved to be an even bigger jerk and douche than what most us already thought before.

The thing is NOBODY asked you what you did….ya Douche….and guess what….NOBODY gives a crap!

We all have our own little ego building uccess stories in some way shape or form and we all have our own screw ups.

So, in the final analysis….you “may” have graduated when you were 20….and you “may” bought a house at 19 and allegedly paid it off…(i wonder if mommy and daddy might have paid if off for you hmm?) and you “may” have a successful corporation in a down economy no less?

Howvever, by divulging all this to us on here WITHOUT anyone asking and NOBODY on here CARING…..shows your not very bright and not very mature either are you?

Dan Williams (DT Tennessee) 6′2″ 329 lbs
Brian Price (DT UCLA) 6′2″ 300 lbs
Terrence Cody (DT Alabama) 6′4″ 354 lbs

as for kiffin, he was an idiot. a weakling. ever listen to him talk? he kinda half-whispers. how al davis got swindled by that tool is beyond me b/c he usually has good instincts for coaches. but his post-gruden run has not been good until hue.

all kiffin could talk about was the projector? who cares?

kiffin is a liar and opportunist who has never done anything remarkable whatsoever.

  • rob_raider

as for satele, the reason so many here think he is weak, is b/c he is weak! he gets pushed around. but as i said a couple weeks ago, he is still young and he could improve. seems like he’s doing an adequate job right now.

trevor scott? he’s a tweener. too light to stand the play coming at him. not quite quick or instinctive enuff to go get plays away. he can rush the passer though. but he is young too. he could get better. but he doesn’t seem to be in the mix at lb.

we need help at LB! that unit sux!

“I remember the first game I did, which was 2008, Monday night, Denver at Oakland, that was unbelievable,” Miller said. “I saw officers assaulted right in front of me, people tased, people bleeding, it was terrible, and I’ve been in law enforcement for years. I thought, ‘This is just not acceptable, we have got to get ahold of this.’ Last year when I went and watched that same game, I didn’t see one assault on an officer, didn’t see hardly a need for even an arrest.”
