Terrelle Pryor, Lito Sheppard both practicing with Raiders today

This news in from Steve Corkran, who is in Napa with no internet access right now:
Terrelle Pryor is wearing No. 6 and taking some reps at quarterback now for the Raiders. Also, just-signed Lito Sheppard is also participating in drills. Sheppard is donning Nnamdi Asomugha’s old No. 21 jersey.
To make room for both Pryor and Sheppard on the roster, the Raiders have released ex-San Jose State quarterback Jason La Secla as well as offensive lineman Alan Pelc.

If they signed Lito, it’s probably not because they think they have lots of depth there. Expect guys to be cut that you wouldn’t have expected to be at the beginning of camp.

We have CJ37, Routt, Huff & Branch as starters.
I would consider DVD, Ware, Mitchell & Brown locks behind them …
If we keep 6 CB’s I’m guessing Moore & Chekwa get in over Sheppard, McFadden & Porter.
If the injuries to CJ37 & Mitchell are more than just “nicks” , well that changes things

Most see it as a significant downgrade. Just gotta hope the team stays healthy and other new faces rise to the challenge

I think personnel wise there is probably a slight downgrade, but the real hit is the lack of continuity. The lockout is going to favor teams that stayed together more than teams that made wholesale changes. All the postional changes from one year to the next concern me because of the lockout.

The overhead projector Al Davis used during the news conference he held after your firing seems like kind of a metaphor for how he runs the Raiders. Would you agree?
Yeah, it was. It was sad, really, to see somebody who’s accomplished so much in his career and been such a powerful figure in the NFL … to see that was actually pretty sad to watch. But you’re exactly right, an overhead projector — that describes the pace that you’re dealing with of the way an organization is being run.

Yeah we were much worse last year (against run esp) without Big John.
I can’t recall what year Porter was drafted. I seem to think this would be his third yr, making him ineligible for PS. But McFadden is for sure. And since he isn’t earning a job by any means there’s a solid chance he clears waivers. DVD seems like he can play. Larry Fitz catch certainly wasn’t a big concern to me. Had nice coverage. The other guys haven’t seen enough yet.

Veldheer, Satele & Carlisle back is cool.

DHB & Murphy started last year, so if Steve is correct saying that the best players will start and they are Ford & Moore – there’s two more new starters
Boss = new starter for us
CJ37 has started for us before, but he didn’t last year. He’s replacing Nnamdi from last year
one of the youngsters replace CJ37 at nickel. Somebody has to replace Thomas Howard in “Big Nickel” packages – possibly even MM34
Cable, Hackett & Tollner replaced by Al Saunders, basically = another change

I just wish the team was running on all cylinders heading into the season. No big issues or red flags. Positions locked down. No more experimenting or moving targets.
The script of the team “finding itself” as the season goes on, and then finally making progress when it’s too late to matter is not something I am looking forward to.
HueJax needs to figure this puzzle out and fast. I remember all the times I was pissed at Cable’s broken record, “we know what we did wrong, and we can correct it” excuse. Like the other team doesn’t have a say-so in the matter. Please Hu-jack, dont give us excuses on the post game report, tell it like it is.

It seems people dont want to give this regime any time at all to right the ship.
Hu jack has had one draft class, and in his first season repairing cables mess. It will take time to stock the team with his guys, and he cant be properly graded with out a larger sample size. We are seeing a transition on the o-line, for instance and it will take time.
The team is also adjusting to a new coaching staff on defense, and a new scheme. Hu jack chuck b and woodson will need a couple of years to get their guys.
I dont see why some were willing to give cable so much time, and even claimed he should have been brought back after such a stretch of mediocrity, but you want hu jack to get it done in one lock out shortened off season.
Just say you dont want HU jack, that is what this really about

I appreciate your realism on the 2011 Raiders, and I too don’t think about playoffs when we just got to prove we can compete. Right now, got a bad feeling about playing the Saints, and it’s only preseason. But losing wears on you.
I’d take a good win over 10 glorious practice updates from Corkran and Jerry. I want to see some progress and momentum.

peopel are so critical of our man press cover, but if you look around the nfl many teams want to employ that scheme yet not many gm’s know how to pick the dbs that can really do it.

What about julian peterson at olb? he is considered a disappointment because he was brought to sf to provide a pass rush. He never became a great pass rusher, but he is solid in the run game. He is strong taking on blockers and his speed doesnt allow a lot of backs to out flank him at the edge. He could provide quality depth and doesnt need to worry about rushing the passer.

I get that but its premature. The first series we saw guys over pursue, could be just being a little to hyped for the battle of the bay. We also saw players out of position in the secondary. They tightned up at the goal line and stuffed the run. The second series the niners didnt get jack. To me it looked like if we had played an entire game, sf offense was going to struggle, and our offense was going to get what ever we wanted. we would have beaten then by 2 tds easy.

Mistic’s optimism is at least somewhat tempered. BHP has all kinds of rookie 7th rounders going to Canton.
I’ll settle for somewhere in between the Doom & Gloom Crowd and the We-Will-Dominate-Everything Crowd.
I see our offense being very explosive and the D bending but not breaking most of the time, getting broke a bit too often (as has been the case for a while now).
But I really think the offense is ready to move up a notch.

Really, the D had always been built as if we were ahead. That make sense? In other words a defense that gets good natural four man pressure with occasional blitz (and super-fast DBs) designed to bring the opposing QB down and disrupt the pass.
If we can play with the lead more often than not, the D could shine.

I think dvd will be fine tackling at the line of scrimmage, but he seems to struggle in the open field a bit. However as was just pointed out you dont have to be a big tackler at db, just adequate. If tackling is the biggest issue you have with a corner i would say your going to be fine.

excellent, and what i have been saying for years. you need a decent defense it doesnt need to be the steel curtain. You must have a big time offense. We have explosive offense and a very good run game, our defense is much better with the lead.

Watch TP roll it up and down the field against third stringers. I bet he can do it and look impressive. He will have lots of weapons and I am sure Hue will tell him to run when he feels like it.
At OS he was told to stay in the pocket as much as possible. So he has actually been working on on a pro style offense and looking great at times.

But I think he should have maybe divulged more into the tattoo thing.
There is a difference from getting a chest tattoo over your heart dedicated to your grandma, and getting East Side tattoo’d on your neck.

I dont like our line. loper-satele-carlisle-barnes.
This means no push in short yardge especilaly, and piss poor pass protection.
pass protection will be an even bigger issue this year, because we now have skill guys at wr position ready to blossom. This includes DHB ford and moore. These guys need the ball and JC has been putting it on the money down the field ( so much for that captain check down garbage).
With out good protection our qb will get knocked out, and or we wont be able to utilize our speed in the passing game.

I completely agree with those of you talking about how explosive this offense can be. Ford, McFadden, Bush, Boss, Moore (if the hype turns out to be true). That’s a lot of weapons. The way i see it, there are three huge question marks that will determine whether we are a 10-12 win team.
1. Will the offensive line jell and play at an average level. They don’t need to be great, but they do need to be better then last year. Make sure you give Campbell time, and open up some room for rb’s.
2. Will Jason Campbell improve upon last year. In my opinion, he was a below average starter last year (still think he was better then grads). But he’s now been in the system for a year. More comfortable, hopefully more confident. If he can play at an average or above average level, this offense can soar.
3. Run defense. Plain and simple. We don’t have to dominate. But we do need to stop other teams from running down our throats. Crap like what happened in sf yesterday will sink our season.

I think the only battle should be at LG.
The plan should be to rotate Campbell at RG here and there, and maybe a little more accelerated for Barksdale at RT. But they should get some run with the 1’s on Sunday, to be prepared if they are needed earlier.
Hue isn’t stupid though, he needs veterans prepared and playing well, heading into weeks 3 and 4 (Jets-Pats).

In a move that has us scratching our heads (and because it’s the Raiders, we can’t be surprised), Oakland has sent 4th year running back Michael Bush to the Seahawks for a 6th roud draft pick in 2012 per Jerry McDonald of the Oakland Tribune.
Bush has been a backup for Darren McFadden and Justin Fargas the last three seasons and is generally regarded amongst league sources as a starting caliber back and squandered his first few years in the Black Hole.
It appears Al Davis will rely heavily on rookie Taiwan Jones to shoulder the responsibility of primary backup to Run DMC.
With his forty yard dash time, THAT is no surprise.

If Jason grades a B that means he needs to be in the top ten, maybe twelve QB’s in the league.
In order for Jason to be a top ten QB, he needs to put the team on his back and win a few games when the rest of the team is pl;aying down. He could not do that last year, or the year befpre or the year before.
He has always been a C-

Or what about the game vs kc? Ford and campbell put on a show in the second half, to win that game.
I think he doesnt get the credit for some of his heroics in washington either.

Wiz shouldn’t be at guard. He should focus on center and work hard to take that position away from Satele. Meanwhile, Heyer should be at LG, BCampbell at RG and Barksdale at RT.

Nah, rarely buy jerseys for active players. I’m building up my throwback collection. Last time I got an active player was 99 Sapp within a few days of signing him. Before that was 24 CWood.
Still rock both, although I’m sure to get backlash from people who hate Sapp, maybe justifiably so.
My favorite is 25 Freddy B. Also have a 100% cotton Snake in the style of like a hockey jersey or maybe like old school ivy league style leather healmet-wearing days.

Raider Cain’ I like that idea of having Mr. Bruce Campbell playing RT with Mr. Wisniewski playing along side him, that would be a formidable right side, possibly the best in the NFL!
I do think ther Raiders should consider playing Mr. Campbell at Tackle. The way he was blocking vs. San Francisco I could see him their before the end of the season.
Mr. Vehldeer, Mr. Barksdale, and Mr. Heyer at tackle as well as the veteran Mr. Barnes is the deepest we have been at that position since Mr. Lincoln Kennedy was our starting RT.

Re: BCampbell at RG vs. RT. IMO, BCampbell’s greatest vale is in his strength, speed and meanness. He has more value at RG. We need a strong core in the middle of the line to prevent bull-rush pocket collapse and to assure success on 1-2 yd pushes for 1st downs and TD’s. Satle’s weakness is stopping bull-rushes and pass blocking. Wiz 2.0 would improve that spot significantly as soon as he gets his act & technique together. We already have a road grinding Tackle available in Barksdale. BCampbell’s speed will also be of great value as a pulling guard (ala Gene Upshaw style). On the other side os Satele or Wiz we need another strongman like Heyer. Heyer’s long reach will also enable him to help Veldheer when required. Together, they can both protect a pretty wide area. That’s my reasoning why I’d prefer to see BCampbell at guard instead of tackle.

In his interview he talks about how sorry Al is.I think he got the worst treatment and a raw deal in Oakland that any coach has ever gotten!!!!
Lou Hotlz said AL’S nickname around the football world is helicopter because he is always stirring stuff up meaning he was a spoiled little troublemaker when he was a kid and he is still a spoiled troublemaker.

I think dvd will be fine tackling at the line of scrimmage, but he seems to struggle in the open field a bit. However as was just pointed out you dont have to be a big tackler at db, just adequate. If tackling is the biggest issue you have with a corner i would say your going to be fine. ****MYSTIC YOU ARE A FOOTBALL ILLITERATE!!!!!
