August 30th, 2011 at 4:53 pm
Tommy Kelly you gonna be scared to answer my questions buddy
August 30th, 2011 at 4:55 pm
1st question for Kelly…..why do you suck so bad verse the run?
August 30th, 2011 at 4:57 pm
Routt is still lost half the time. Age doesn’t fix ignorance, studying does.
August 30th, 2011 at 4:57 pm
At 3:30? Shouldnt Tommy be in school, I mean at practice?
August 30th, 2011 at 4:58 pm
Tommy Kelly’s most memorable play in history: when his pants fell off. LOL, cant remember another one.
August 30th, 2011 at 4:59 pm
2nd question……….who is a bigger thief…you or Bernie Madoff?
August 30th, 2011 at 4:59 pm
3rd question….How can you being such a big man have trouble beating the RG one on one?
August 30th, 2011 at 5:00 pm
3rd Question: who’s fatter: rob ryan or turdell sands?
August 30th, 2011 at 5:00 pm
4th question….do you take it to heart that you have started at every spot on the dline and they still stink vs the run?
August 30th, 2011 at 5:01 pm
5th question……what do you plan to do after 2011 when Raiders figure out you suck and arent worth two red cents?
August 30th, 2011 at 5:01 pm
Kelly, after hearing your sideline interview I am led to believe you have no command of the English language: does this impair your ability to read/learn the play book and hence, the reason [y]ou can’t stop the run?
August 30th, 2011 at 5:01 pm

Someone should ask Kelly can he do the truffle shuffle
August 30th, 2011 at 5:09 pm
I seriously doubt that TKelly will ever be intimidated by any trifling vomit spewed from this site.
once upon a time Uncle Al gave TKelly a bunch of green.
people amused themselves wondering aloud why why why?
yesterday the Phillys gave a whole bunch of green to their runabout pitcher.
are people amused by this and asking why why why?
or are people afraid that that to ask why is to paint themselves as anti-black-excon?
the Phillys have no o-line. their runabout pitcher may be an extraordinary athlete but the man is going to get broken into shattered body parts as a result of his style of play and the ineptitude of those protecting him.
the Phillys are just covering their azzes in a make-good-look contract after letting Kolb go to the desert.
laughter should abound, but instead the offering will be one of tragedy when the runabout gets totaled.

Just not thinking rationally.
If Al liked his pass rushing DTs, he wouldn’t line one of them up right between a C and OG to be double teamed.
He would also put his best pass rushing DT one on one with an OG, don’t you think?

Watching DVR of the game.
1st pass of the day all DVD had to do was turn around and it was a pick. His coverage was so good he wasn’t expecting Brees to even try.
Then Brees tries Branch who was really beat but TE dropped. Next he tries McClain, nice breakup and coverage.
3 & 10 he goes after DVD again for a 1st down.
1 & 10 tries TE on a short out …Branch right there ..no where. Next actually tries to run Ingram – stopped. 3 & 6 tries Sproiles on short out McClain right there to prevent 1st down.
4th down and they go for it against who? DVD.
1st and goal …run for 3.5/4yds, penalty -5yds, slant route vs DVD for 6yds, run Ingram for 1yd. Score.
Summary: Raiders stopped the Saints around the 30 where in the regular season that would have been a FG attempt. Saints were only able to get yardage on 1 player. DVD! Thats it! And he’s not a starter. Moreover, he’s a rookie.
Drive really was not that impressive when you think about it. They were only able to attack 1 playa to gain ground.

DHB basically looked up too late on that ball. He had his guy beat regardless of what Chirs W. says. Still he should have had that one. If it hits your hands it should be caught. That deep ball from Campbell was much better than last week. When those 2 start connecting watch out!
DHB look up earlier! Otherwise it was good timing on Campbells part. Hard catch but definitely catchable.

Marcel Reece. Last year he was all over breaking long plays on screens etc. I don’t think his name has come up in any of the practice notes or pre-season games…
He was also a huge threat for us out of the backfield last year….especially catching the ball…
August 30th, 2011 at 6:03 pm
The offense was very methodical, very well organized and ran. Very nice march down the field. Very well executed runs. One deep strike attempt. And a good bit of short stuff that kept the chains moving. Very nice march.

August 30th, 2011 at 6:26 pm
N.O. on offense:
Sproiles ties to run to outside for 2yds.
TE caught ball on Huff 20yds. Huff had great coverage but looked up too late. It was a great timing play w/ Brees.
Thomas tries run to outside, stopped by Boyd 1yd. Then Henderson short throw parrellel to the lne for 4 or so.
Finally a good run by Sproiles around the end 10yds. TScott was taken down on the play – a little holding there/take down ..he had Sproiles covered in the hole.
Short attempt – McClain right there – 2/3yds. Then blown ZONE coverage in the secondary (Branch) 25yds to the 15.
Tries Routt – no good. Then Pierre runs right …Branch met him hard at 3 although Pierre gets 6. Soft zone coverage b/t Branch & Routt gives up a 1st down near goal. HB dive for TD.
Summary: Not a bad drive by the Saints. Raiders had good coverage. Pretty good run defense. But secondary blew coverages that gave up big yardage.

Woodrow murdered his fair share. I guess they wouldn’t commit suicide.
August 30th, 2011 at 6:36 pm
2nd drive of the Raiders …they dialed down the offensive scheming and when more plain vanilla. 10yds penalty on Wiz early in the drive derailed them.
Its not looking like a real scrimmage. Hue’s feeding TJ checking him out regardless of the score and down & distance.

Live chat with Kelly tomorrow? Well, this ought to be interesting to say the least. I can just picture it…
Steve as moderator – “Here’s one Tommy…Oops, maybe not this one. Okay here’s another one…Ah, maybe not this one either. Here’s…Oh my…Just give me a minute Tommy. Ah…er…the chat link doesn’t seem to be working too well Tommy…What say we go get some burgers or something? My treat big guy.”
August 30th, 2011 at 6:43 pm
BHP…no bruh no no no you didnt just tell me that I wont question Kelly about his underachieving career. You made a killin financially with what to show for it? Tommy kelly has played hella games and had little to no impact most of the time. He may need to hear it cuz I dont see it with him
August 30th, 2011 at 6:44 pm
Drexl! Sup man? Hell yeah halftime brew is a fa sho mayne! Great to see ya back! That is a Raider right there!
August 30th, 2011 at 6:49 pm
3rd N.O. drive:
Kelly is no longer in the game. Houston & Bryant at DT. TScott at RDE.
McClain good on blitz. Needed to go earlier to get the sack but good job still.
Penalty on Moss (lined up in neutral zone) extends the drive ..what would have been a 3rd down stop N.O. gets another shot beating Boyd for deep middle gain.
Saints noticeably slowing down (Raiders adjusting?) but drives for a FG.
Summary: N.O. is finally having a little success on the ground. Not suprisingly when Kelly leaves and we are effectively rotating out. Raiders pass defense begins suring up during this drive as well. Pass rush is starting to heat up with blitzes but they are a little late. I think this will be the last drive for the starters. N.O. didn’t look as sharp this drive.
August 30th, 2011 at 6:53 pm
I think that was the last drive for Raiders starting defense. Albeit, without Seymour or CJ and Kelly leaving during the previous drive.
August 30th, 2011 at 6:54 pm
All things being considered, defense is actually pretty good.
August 30th, 2011 at 6:56 pm

August 30th, 2011 at 7:00 pm
Hagan, Ford, Moore and Murphy in 4 WR set with T Jones or DMAC comin out the backfield. We have a chance to be realllllly good on offense!

August 30th, 2011 at 7:06 pm
OK. Most of the 1st team D is in (Kelly out). Bress is out. Players are slowing down. Ready to check out. Saints stopped on a sack by Houston.
Raiders in for 2 min drill. Nice timing for practice. 2 min drill looks more organized than last year. More timely.
Should’ve been a TD, but ends in a Campbell INT (deflected pass).
August 30th, 2011 at 7:07 pm
Thats a wrap for the 1s and me.
August 30th, 2011 at 7:10 pm

I think this will be a very good team.

August 30th, 2011 at 7:16 pm
Not sure if Steve published all of this from postgame interviews. Some good, candid thoughts from Hue and JC….
HUE
“We discovered we have a young runner in Taiwan Jones. Derek Hagan stepped up and mede some palys.”
If you watch the Hagan interview, you’ll see ol’ boy is 100% business, all hard work. Emphasized it more than once.
Hue on defense:
“It’s an issue . I couldn’t tell if you if it’s scheme or assignment. Obviously, on that side of ball we have some work to do. We got some fxin’ to do and I understand that and we’ll get it done.”
Scheme? And if you watch the interview, you see the emphasis on that word he has.
JASON
“I don’t feel like everyone’s playing to win a job right now with things that [New Orleans] was doin’ to us in 2nd half but at the same time we understand we got to continue to pick up the pieces togehter, work together and we got to bring in this thing tighter sooner than later.”
I believe Satele when he says Jason can lose that famous cool of his, ’cause JC had a look in his eye that I hadn’t really seen from him before. Jason honestly looks like he’s ready to lead this team.
August 30th, 2011 at 7:26 pm
I dont getta watch a lot of football, but from what I hear and read in the papers is Raiders number one wr set should be moore and throw the Hagan fellow right out there into the mix. A friend of mine showed me a U-tube of him stiff arming a mothrfckr right in the face against norleans. That was professional.

Nah. He should have caught the deep strike; not the slant. You can’t catch a ball when your arms are being held back from closing in on the ball. Can you catch a ball with both arms being held? What with you stomach? lol.

August 30th, 2011 at 7:54 pm
T’pin Hagan looked very good but he’s been cut 3 times and he’s in his 5th year he should be doing what he’s doing if he wants to stay in the league. But these guys will eat out of his hands after one game. I want the guy to make the team but he has to be consistent and I think he will because he’s hungry much more hungry than some of the bums they’ve been begging them to bring in here.
I do however think he is legit, but you’d think he was Larry Fitzgerald they want they act. We have some decent rec.s this make him #1 is NUTS.But it’s typical blog mania.

You only caught a glimpse of this offense during the 1st drive vs N.O. And I think during the 1st drive vs AZ.
After the 1st drive vs N.O., Hue went plain vanilla and started trying out TJones et al.
I’m telling you this offense is going to be lights out. Just a beutiful thing to watch.
Hue says he cares about these games. I think he does some, but he really uses them to have something to improve upon. He sits players real early that don’t need the work and who we will rely on heavily during the regular season. While keeping backups or scrubs in most of the game; then trots out …”We need to improve this and that and get better” …Well what do you think Hue? You trotten out backups and scrubs – of course we need to improve!
hahaha. Good coach.
August 30th, 2011 at 7:57 pm

Sometimes players get reputations and referees, whether they do it on purpose or not, let it affect the way they see things that involve that player.
DHB has somewhat of a reputation as a player that doesn’t catch the ball very well. I hope it doesn’t affect the times he’s closely covered, with the official giving the benefit of the doubt to the defender.
The defender definitely got the benefit of the doubt on that slant pass.

===============================================
I been sayin ever since we got JC all he needed was recievers to catch the ball. I been sayin a million and a hundred times that dropped balls dont count as completions, but if DHB is out there and aint catchin jack, well then thats a incomplete pass. And it aint helpin JC. So I been tellin everyone he now has some WRs that are the sch1t, hagan and moore and JC is gonna fly. Fact………………………….Period. Double Period!

I wouldn’t mind seeing the Raiders try DHB in the slot. He seems to struggle when trying to adjust to the deep ball but does better when his routes are a little shorter.
He’s certainly fast enough, and his size and strength may be an asset there.

August 30th, 2011 at 8:40 pm
I look for the game plan against Denver is to exploit the short game, quick slants will ease the blitzes. 2nd and short will set up the deep throw. Too dam much speed up front and its dangerous on those wheel routes. A 4 yard completion can be taken to the house on any play. Speed kills, and we got it in spades. We gonna crush the Broncos. I feel it.

We have the option of second guessing the coach on alnost every play. A HC cannot second guess himself, I’ve been trying to tell you that for years. Why do you think they are under so much pressure? It is easy to second guess yourself, but if it is after the play and you failed, you’ll go nuts trying to do it. DHB is close he just needs another season and an offseason with Hujack. He still makes very correctable mistakes this kid is very young man which is something you just refuse to see. The only difference between him and Hagan is reps Hagan has seen what he’s seeing 3x’s more so he’s much more relaxed. DHB will frustrate you no question but just give that young man another year with good coaching and you’ll see a very different player this time next year. Trust me I see it.

Jason Campbell is prepared. He steps up and reads the D on his presnap reads and it looks like the game has slowed down for him. He’s in control now. Right now, he’s one of the better QB’s in the game in understanding the D and making adjustments.
—————————————————–
Are we being freeeeegggin serious with this post!? It’s PRE-season gosh damn! Is Campbell better than Bradford, Freeman, Sanchez, Cutler, or even Hasslebeck? I’m not sure he is, because all of those quarterbacks made their teams better than what they should’ve been last year, and we can only hope Campbell does the same for the Raiders this year. If he does, then our average defense won’t be as big a problem as it seems because our offense will smoke the competition. Geez people, keep things in perspective.
August 30th, 2011 at 9:15 pm
perspective never riegns in here it’s all about popularity, whoever is popular today is king and cut all the rest. Hagan is playing well if he keeps it up he’ll get all the run he can handle. If he keeps it up.
August 30th, 2011 at 9:16 pm
The way this offense is shaping up, I’m going with 10 wins.
Also think 10 wins gets the AFC West this year.
I think we beat Denver and KC twice, and split with the Chargers.
Bill, Browns, Jets, and Lions are 4 more wins.
Don’t have the schedule in front on me to tell you who that 10th win will be.

Didn’t we all know all off season that the offensive line would be fine; it was defense we had to worry about? joking. I remember last year being happy Bush was starting the season instead of Mcfadden, as were most of you that are honest enough to remember. And, I’ve been curious why every pundit has said giving up Nnamdi was a death knell to a team they give no chance of winning anything ,but the last eight teams that won the superbowl didn;t have Aso on the team. Don’t get me wrong, I loved NNamdi and wanted him here, but why would that be the be all and end all of our chances? I’m drunk but you get the point.

=================================================
I wouldn’t agree with this Brien. Yes, he signed his own contract, but he didn’t draft himself 8 overall. If that piece of paper was put in front of you, you would have signed it as well.
DHB is on his 3rd offensive coordinator in 3 years. His 2nd head coach in 3 years. It is not an excuse but continuity goes a very long way in this league.
You look at a guy like Roddy White in Atlanta. Dude is a Pro Bowl receiver. His lst two years in the league were terrible. And I mean terrible. And he had Mike Vick and Matt Schaub as his Q’s. Not J-fat ass.
When DHB got drafted, he was drafted as a project. Now all of a sudden Raider fans are realizing he’s a project and they’re pissed at him. You want to see improvement. With Russell, Russell regressed. He regressed badly. That was that. Let’s see what happens with DHB. He has seemingly improved. His improvement might seem glacial, but he has improved.

Let’s not go crazy. Hagan has been in the league what 6 years and not a lot to show for it. Ford has one season, and Moore hasn’t played one down. Murphy, Ford and DHB are probably the best three. I really really like what I am seeing in Derek Hagan tho. Kid has skills and desire. I am sure they will find a spot on the field for him.
August 30th, 2011 at 9:47 pm
i like ford more as a 3rd wr cuz of the options he gives us off the bench like a 6th man in basketball. he provides energy and is more hard to gameplan for when u dont see him right away. we need a possession wr for sure. i think hagan may be that guy as he is making plays against starters and backups. u cant overlook his consistency. i dont mind dhb being the starter opposite him but he and jc gotta get that deep ball game on track. i still dont like how jc floats it up there sometimes. dhb does need to do a better job of adjusting to the ball and just play loose. he plays so damn tight from game to game u dont know which guy will show up.

Marshall had the defense improving….Chuck B seems to be causing the D to regress and look lost out there like he looks lost!
—————————
Just look at Seymour’s interview this past game as proof of that. He said it was the players responsibility. Translation: This new coach ain’t doing us any favors.
^^^^^^^^^
I saw that interview and like I said before. Seymour didn’t sound confidant…at all!
That’s disturbing.

Reminded me of some damn silent creep somethings in the air thing that has seemed to haunt the long halls of Alemeda. Can’t put my finger on it but I can smell it. And it is a damn shame Marshall left because I like him and I told you that for as long as I told you. Without him who knows.
Yeah Seymour said the players got to play better, meaning the HC ripped the players a new bunghole but the players know they cant get better because they dont like the scheme. Are they playing to their strengths? Lets ask TK tomorrow.

Every coach at every level knows competition makes the team better. Well, looks like we got some competition at the WR position. That can only be a good thing.

I Like JFORD as a starting WR as I know like the NFL knows that no one in the league can hold him 1 on 1…
The best WR you have you don’t sit him, or use him sparingly. You send him out on a constant, you dont have to create mis matches for him as he is a built in mismatch.
August 30th, 2011 at 9:57 pm
I noticed in the NO game the CB’s were playing at least 5-7 yards off the LOS… JC was doing some excellent reads, and the WR’s were making some good adjusments also…

So if you move Houston to DT, are you moving ShoNasty to Houston’s old spot LDE so the speed rusher can truly play opposite the LT at RDE?
Truth be told, Seymour needs to be playing LDE.
Seymour Kelly Henderson ShoNasty
Houston is not a better LDE than Seymour.
I have no problem with him at the the 3 tech challenging Kelly for the starters spot.
I think I need to see Wimbley and Scott next to each on one side other with Moss at DE on the other side. Put Seymour and Kelly in the middle of that and I think that is you pressure the QB lineup.

jhill the moves i would make has to have a new offseason. seymour is a dt. just like he played at georgia. alot of yall forget that. when we traded for him i immediately said he was gonna be moving inside to truly be at his best. well a year later we did and the rest is history. we need kelly to become more disruptive so he can be even better.we dont need to see backups like scott out there.we know what he is. what we need now is a star de to take this dline to the next level. right now we just have to make due.
August 30th, 2011 at 10:10 pm
if i see john or amy friday night in seattle, i’ll ask them what percentage of operations they now have say over, and i’ll report the answer back to this blog.
all i know is the raiders better rip seattle a new one, because its down and dirty now. starters need to fight it out for the final spots.
something else i dont understand. didnt hue say he didnt come here to lose or did he say he came here to win? either way, he cant be to happy about 0-3, so i expect oakland to have their teeth sharp friday night.
August 30th, 2011 at 10:14 pm
if u really fix that front 7 we need about 4 players over the next 2 years. 2 dt’s a de and 2 lb’s. the only way to fix the run d is to get tougher quicker guys upfront. what we have might get better but only marginally.
August 30th, 2011 at 10:15 pm
J Ford will more than likely get the most snaps outta all our WRs.
But there will be plays where he’s not on the field simply because we are trying to pound it down someone’s throat and Chaz, Hagan, and DHB are all better-bigger-stronger run blockers.
August 30th, 2011 at 10:19 pm
For those soiling their diapers over our preseason, you need only look at the 2005 Colts. 0-5 baby. As if that’s not enough, it included a 38-0 shellacking by the Bengals in the final week of preseason.

Well shhhiiidddd, if you wanna talk about a couple of offseasons and adding some players, then year I can see where you’re going.
Seymour is good enough to play any of the 4 DL positions. But I would certainly try and steer him away from that constand double team lining him up between the C and OG. I’d let him go to work one on one against the RT all day long. Force the other team to keep a TE or RB in to help that RT out and weaken their pass options.
I think what you are looking for from that DE can be provided by Wimbley rushing the passer from his OLB spot.
I don’t think there is a 4 man front in our future where all 4 guys play every down. I think we will see the Trevor Scott’s rotated in on passing downs, and the Houston’s moved over to DT.
August 30th, 2011 at 10:24 pm
Houston does play 3tech on 3rd and long rushing downs. He also plays the 1tech behind Kelly now if you watch the NO game the DT’s were Hosuton and Bryany they were looking at that for 3rd down purposes IMO.
They are going to use Big Sey and kelly more as 1st and 2nd down tandem and use these youn g kids to get after the QB.
I know it hasn’t looked great yet but that could turn into something.
As far as Ford not starting I can’t see that at all y’all’s trippin now.

I’m waiting to see Scott, Wimbley, and Moss on the field rushing the passer with Seymour and Kelly in the middle.
=================================================
Problem is when the raiders put those light DEs on the field they get obliterated in the run game…not that Houston and SHaughnessy are doing a helluva lot better…but its much better than seeing Burgess, Ellis, Scott etc….getting smashed

If there is a TE and a FB on the field at the same time, that lineup should never be on the field.
August 30th, 2011 at 10:36 pm
It’s all about down and distance they will pla certain packages. Someone mentioned earlier that Seymour looked unhappy and I agree he didn’t seem nearly as positive as he did lasty year. But that may be due to the shortened camp with no offseason.
But King Richard is a true pro he will give it everything he’s got and it better work because you don’t want him doubting the scheme that would be disasterous.
August 30th, 2011 at 10:42 pm
if the running game takes off like it should this offense will put up points on anybody. The defense just needs to show the majority of the time. And no one knows how good this team could be. It wouldn’t surprise me to see them in the AFC championship game if they get hot. The Jets don’t scare me and neither do the Pat’s if the offense takes. The way JC is playing already this team could easily win the division. And get a bye with 2 games to win to go to the bowl. And I wouldn’t mind seeing the Saints in the SB they showed their offense they didn’t see ours.
August 30th, 2011 at 10:46 pm
I agree with Ohioraider, a Frachise that’s been losing a long time needs to show something in the pre-season, for their own confidence, much more that a Elite Team, like the Colts.
Having had Run D problems for years, you don’t want to give up 239 yards on the ground in a pre-season game, like they did to the 49ers.
When, you’ve just lost your best player, Nnamdi Asomough, you don’t want to see your Secondary getting gouged.
See what I’m saying?

What the preseason is showing us is that our back-ups on defense are REALLY REALLY weak. So when a starter goes down in the middle of the year the other teams will be having a feast going at whomever “steps up”.
August 31st, 2011 at 4:10 am
For all the DBs picked, I am not confident in any of them stepping in if CJ or Routt gets injured during the year.
For that matter, I am not confident on any of our back-up LBs stepping in. I mean…that’s scarey.
Our D-Line is at least a little deeper. We have Trevor Scott backing up is at least descent at End. We have a couple descent DTs backing up our starting two.
On WR, we don’t have any stars, but there isn’t a huge difference in play from Ford to Murphy, from Moore to Hagan. DHB…well….throw him shorter passes and he’ll have a higher percent chance of catching them. For the couple games when Chaz is healthy he’s also up there in the same range as the top 3-4.
On RB behind McFadden we have Bush without any huge drop off and now have Taiwan to fill in. On the O-line it’s a bit weaker, but on most positions except Left Tackle we could work around it without huge problems.
On TE, without Boss in there we have a descent pass catcher and descent run blocker as back-ups.
It’s the LBs and CBs which is REALLY REALLY BIG drop off from the starters to the back-ups.
August 31st, 2011 at 4:55 am
Lets keep it real simple this morning and break it down into the basics
We got our butts torn asunder the last nine years because we could not throw the ball, we could not run the ball, we could not catch the ball we could not block, we could not defend the pass. we could not defend the run at all, and we could not tackle. And we had a terrible club atmosphere.
It really is that simple
Last year for the first time in 9 years we passed some what decent, we ran excellent, we blocked very well, we defended the pass like pro bowlers, we made improvments in tackling and we made great strides in having a great club atmosphere. (I cant come up with a better word to describe it)
Today we have made huge leaps on the offense and it looks we will tear teams up.
The defense is a work in progress. We may have taken a step backwords, according to preseaon games, however I do not put much stock in that. We are 2 players away from being great on defense
The big deal is to stay healthy and hope that Hue can be a great head coach
BEST YEAR EVER !!!!!!!

When they get off to a fast start, (I predict they will at least be 2-0), then they are going to have to deal with the haters on the East Coast that dismiss them as the worst 2-0 team in football….yada yada…idiot nonsense….just wait till they play the Patriots and Jets….yada yada…
Hue is going to keep them on the target and above all else, have a nasty demeanor out on the field. Make em flinch when we approach the line.

BCZ,
are the NY Giants helping or hurting Eli Manning?
a few years ago they stripped away Jeremy Shockey, Sinorice Moss & David Tyree
Plax not welcome back after prison term.
Now they lost Hagan & Boss to Oakland. Steve Smith to Philly. Ramses Barden on the PUP list
Michael Clayton & Domenik Hixon = good enough behind Nicks & Manningham ???

The offense is gonna be ok,I am worried about our defense,I am concenred with this C.Breshnahan. When he was here as the D-coor during chuckys tenure, we had the type of players that overcame a scheme that to me was entirely to soft. W.Thomas,E.Allen,R.Woodson,B Romanowski…etc. Now this guy is coming in here with this soft scheme and you can tell,it almost looks like read and react, it does not look like the attacking scheme that J.Marshall had going here last year.
Plus we need to look at some diff LB’s that are still out there, maybe Dhani Jones-Bengals, Chase Blackburn-Giants, Keith Bulluck-Giants, Na’il Diggs-Rams. Either one of these guys has to be better that Q.Groves.
Our Offense is gonna be a Beast, But Bresnahan will set our defense back—IMO should have AL should have kept Marshall, bcus Breshnahan is not an improvement, however despite the flawed scheme anyone of the above LB’s mentioned should help more that Q.Groves.

There are talk of Patriots dropping Brandon Tate, and Seashawks dropping Golden Tate…
It could be funny with two Tate’s on the team, if they get cut, lets take a looksee…
***
LMN,
we’re good at WR as soon as we drop Nick Miller
DHB, Murphy, Ford, Schilens, Moore & Hagan
_______________________________________________________
HAh, NO..
DHB cant catch a cold..
Murphy, injured during camp, we have no clue if last year was a fluke..
Ford, same as Murphy..
Schilens, wont be able to contribute for more than a game and a half, cut him now
Moore, a really great prospect, maybe our best receiver..
Hagan, I liked him as NYG-player so I was really psyched about us getting him, it was what the doctor ordered… problem is, he has only had one good game for us..
so when you look at our receivers, we are not good at WR, we are barely adequate…

Hell, I’ll take adequate at the WR position. We haven’t been adequate in many years. It’s been a weakness that held us back. Now, if we continue to dominate on the ground, an “adequate” passing game is going to be lethal. If we ground and pound mix with timely completions that move the chains…it’s all spelling out a recipe that includes long stretches for the defense to sit on the sidelines and ride stationary bikes. When they get in, the front 7 should tear through and pin the ears back and play downhill.

Rockstar…I have a good friend who is a Giants (NY, not SF) Fan and she was quite upset about the Giants getting rid of everyone!
August 31st, 2011 at 7:20 am
Rock, Re the Giants, losing Boss really hurts Eli, butt their doctors really believed Smith wouldnt be ready before the midway point, so that wasnt a suprise. What they REALLY need to do is bring in REAL competition for Eli. Not Carr. They need to draft a kid in round 2 to light a fire under Eli’s as$ and get some better play out of him. I dont think they are in bad shap at WR right now though.
August 31st, 2011 at 7:23 am
Eli is just not a good QB, and the media makes him out to be a great one. He’s not good reading the defense, and is a turnover machine. Hagan has a much better QB in JCamp throwing him the ball.
You watch the G-Men this year, they are going to be the suck.

Where did Marshall go after being let go in Raider land? I honestly don’t think the idea was to make Breshnehan the D-Coordinator. I think they were going after others that they couldn’t land and were stuck with him. I think they should’ve just resigned Marshall.
On our WR, it’s the deepest we’ve had it in quite a few years. The good news is the drop from #1 to #5 is not that large. Moore, Ford, Murphy, Hagan and Chaz when/if healthy are all at quite a similar level. All would be #2 or #3 receivers on most teams, but they’re all burners except for Hagan so each is a threat to break away on any play. Probably Moore & Hagan have the best hands out of them with Ford having the biggest “flash” ability. I don’t think DHB is on that same level as them right now. Maybe by year 4 or 5.
Our RBs is similarly deep, except we have two RBs who would start on most teams and now a 3rd who looks to be pretty exciting.

Actually I think Kelly has played better than people in here give him credit for. And his contract now, is not that out of control as it seemed at the time with the signings of Suh and the higher DLine valuations.
That is also exactly why they gt Seymour: to take some of the doubles off of Tommie. Incidently, Sey has not played much this preseason, while Kelly has gone out there in meaningless games. That says something right there.

Is it really the same scheme? I mean how can the change of just 1 player (mind you a very good one), cause the whole unit to look so different & indecisive, it doesnt look quite the same to me, but I know that we will know a lot more after the season starts. There is definetly no doubt however that teams will be attacking us on the edges where we are vulnerable, there more LB’s available, bcus Q.Groves is not a starter…what would it hurt to bring in Dhani Jones,Keith Bulluck,or a Na’il Diggs…for some reason I got a feeling that Lofa Tatupu knees may be gone.
But the jury is still out as far as im concerned on this C.Breshnahan—time will definitely tell.

TK and Seymour may have some work to do on the run, but they collapse the pocket quick and make the QB chase out to the outside or make snap checkdowns.

B as I’ve said a thousand times you blaming the run D on one player is ludicrous TK had a spectacular year last year by anyones standards the only player who was head and shoulders better was Suh. You refuse to take the blinders off and see how run D is atcually played. My suggestion to you is take a few games and watch how the Steelers and Ravens play run D. Watch how the entire 11 men on D have to be accountable not just ONE DT no matter how good he is. If you don’t stay disciplined and stay in gaps and tackle. I’m talking about all 11 players your run D will suffer………………period
August 31st, 2011 at 9:19 am
I thought Kelly played pretty solid last year. I wouldn’t have said that years before. I would have said he did nothing to deserve that contract before he got paid it and didn’t do anything since to validate being the highest paid DT at the time.
Last year I think he played at a much higher level.
I don’t think there are 20 DTs I would’ve preferred to play instead of him in the league.

I don’t think out starting unit on defense is all that bad. What worries me is any units coming in (nickel, dime) or if anyone gets injured, we’re screwed. Our depth on defense SUCKS!
I don’t think Brees passes like that against us if DVD isn’t out there. 5 out of his first 6 completions went to DVD. CJ would’ve been better in that coverage.
Aside from that, most of the yardage came after our 1st team defense was out. But, if they go 3 wide or 4 wide, we’re screwed. We had the #2 or #3 pass defense last year and each of the past few it’s been in the top 5 – 10. This year I don’t see it. I see us at best middle-of-the pack.

worst group of corners in the last 25 years and people what to be negative about kelly..please… Jerry’s comparison of DVD struggles to nnamdi is so off base. Nnamdi plyed strong safety at Cal and Al converted him to CB..DVD is only legs, he doesnt get his head around and cant tackle. He needs to be on the bench and learn from there. but him and nnamdi struggles are unrelated. Jerry should know better ..These corners are going to kill our season. We will be one of the worst 3rd down defense because teams will spread us out and pick on our young corners. its going to be very frustrating cause with dmac healthy i feel our offense has improved enough to be a playoff team but the front office neglected the corner position in the off season and it will could ruin our season

OK so if TK is not one of our problems vs the run then who is?
——————————————————-
Well if we are talking about the BIG runs we give up, I’d tend to think it’s the LBs and S play.
There are PLENTY of runs that should be stopped for 5 yds or so that end up going for over 20.
Most of the BIG runs are off the edge.

Tommy Kelly 2010 stats 60 tackles 7.0 sacks
Haloti Ngata 2010 stats 63 tackles 5.5 sacks
*************************
You not really comparing these two right? Ngata has never sucked in the NFL
——————————————————
If you don’t want to acknowledge these stats, then don’t throw out your own stats about where our run defense ranks.
How else do you measure production if you don’t look at the numbers?
Are you going to tell me that the other 10 guys on the Ravens defense don’t make Ngata look good?

Isn’t D-Tackle one of the most important positions in the “Al Davis” defensive scheme?
Still think the Raiders got screwed in the Wimbley deal, in as much that Wimbley’s last year of his rookie contract violated NFL 30% rule. Think we should get comp picks for the NFL/Browns screw-up.

We saw Foster vs. our run D last year. Not pretty.
Remember the game at Houston two years ago? Early on, Johnson burns Routt for a 62 yard completion. After that, Cable/Marshall says “eff it” and moves Asomugha over to shadow him. Johnson the rest of the game had 1 catch for 4 yards.

Man I hope the defensive line has been a sand bagn SOB through the preseason.
If not our non-instinctive DBs are toast!
August 31st, 2011 at 11:29 am
the worries about our defense are understandable, but they are also greatly exaggerated.
1.) our secondary was torched mainly due to the inexperience and youth at corner. This group will be much better opening day. Routt, cj ,shep, are a veteran group that will be at least decent. I actually think cj, and routt will be very good, and if any of our young secondary players contribute it will be a bonus. Other wise they have the luxury of being eased into the season behind proven starters.
2.) There is a new scheme in place. It will take time to adjust and there is no quick fix. Reps on the field will make the difference over time.
3.) The safety play will improve once missile mike is back. he proved to be very good in coverage last year, and is good enough near the line in the box. he represents a significant upgrade to this group. We have seen boyd routinely victimized, yet he wont be on the field when mm34 returns. mm 34 may end this year starting in place of the struggling branch.
4.) Our starting d hasnt been on the field yet together. Some of our key reserves being out also saw the back up unit struggle considerably.
Im not saying that there arent concerns, I just dont think it is nearly as grave as others are predicting. By the end of the year we will finish at least some where in the top 15 total defense.
This will be a middle of the road defense with a prolific offense.
August 31st, 2011 at 11:30 am

We have seen boyd routinely victimized, yet he wont be on the field when mm34 returns. mm 34 may end this year starting in place of the struggling branch.
4.) Our starting d hasnt been on the field yet together. Some of our key reserves being out also saw the back up unit struggle considerably.
Im not saying that there arent concerns, I just dont think it is nearly as grave as others are predicting. By the end of the year we will finish at least some where in the top 15 total defense.
This will be a middle of the road defense with a prolific offense.

Last year for the first time {and with HUE it will be the last} in 9 years we passed some what decent, we ran excellent, we blocked very well, we defended the pass like pro bowlers, we made improvments in tackling and we made great strides in having a great club atmosphere. (I cant come up with a better word to describe it)
Today we have regressed on the offense and it looks like teams will tear us up.
The defense is a work in regress. We have taken a step backwords, according to preseaon games, however I do n put much stock in that. We are 6 players away from being great on defense
The big deal is to stay healthy and hope that Hue can be a so so head coach
WRST YEAR EVER !!!!!!!

Mistic,
why wouldn’t this D play exactly the way they did last year? There has been no noticeable improvement personnel-wise and our schedule is tougher.
Realistically, no reason to think they’ll do better.
===============================
I dont expect much improvement other than to see the team learn a much more diverse scheme. Statistically I think we will look similar to last year, with the run defense a little better and the pass defense a little worse.
teams will not be able to stick to the run, they will be forced to throw in order to keep pace with our new state of the art offense, complete with a blistering air attack. Romac has taken an extreme jump, and shaugnassy will play from the start, all of these factors will make the run d better.
As long as the secondary is healthy they will be ok. We have an edge at starting corner with cj and routt. Behind them is really to green to be counted on, and our safety play is a mess.
However i think the pass rush will be a factor in the regular season and we will have a chance to play with some leads this year.

You want a better run defense? Score more touchdowns on offense. Take the run game off the table by scoring often. Also teams throwing because they have to in order to come from behind makes them predictable. We will be using plenty of fire zone so dbs will the facing the line of scrimmage. We will see more ints, and better run defense due to the new scheme.

This year actually has some interesting subplots and has me looking forward to watching live on NFLN friday night.
First you got the Cable/Gallery/Miller all going to Seattle angle. Gonna suck to see Zack in that SeaHag uniform. We’ll probably all be sick of sideline shots of Tom Cable by the end of the night though.
Then there is the prospect of getting the first glimpse of Pryor in Silver & Black. Hue has indicated he might see some action.
Finally, I can’t wait to see Taiwan Jones in action again. Damn, that dude was exciting vs NO. just a series or two…and then put him in cellophane as Hue puts it, along with DMoore, Hagan and DMac and get ready to unleash them all in Denver on MNF in “The Great Bronco Beatdown”.
