Raiders roster moves are in
By Steve Corkran
Tuesday, August 30th, 2011 at 11:19 am in Oakland Raiders.
The Raiders pared their roster to 80 on Tuesday morning by making the following transactions: FB Bryson Kelly, wide receivers Steve Goulet and Damola Adeniji, offensive linemen Ben Lamaak and Lou Eliades, safety Josh Bullocks and defensive tackle Derrick Hill were waived; offensive lineman Alan Pelc and linebacker Travis Goethel were placed on injured reserve.
Off to practice.

I was hoping B. Campbell would compete in his second year. How many years for an O-lineman to work into the rotation before they are considered a bust?

I dont see how you CAN call a 4th rounder a ‘bust’

Shawn Bayes over Damola Adeniji?
interesting …
Zac Etheridge & Matt Giordano survived longer than Josh Bullocks. That dude might as well head for the UFL
He’s done in this league

Raiders got to work the wire for a LB, too late to get one thats not in shape.

*************
4th round and better is still a high pick in my book. What’s your cutoff? 3rd round? We may be splitting hairs here. The point is, he was considered this all world combine freak that many had us mock drafting in the first round. Even if he busts out, he cost a shot at a better prospect last year. Not that anyone is 100%, so I don’t want to be too harsh.
That said, if he’s a bust we need to recognize it ASAP, and especially at cut time allow the players who are going to carry thier weight a shot at sticking on the roster. i.e. no more scholarships.

::::::::::
Depends. If he is a first rnd pick, and he ain’t starting by year two… Thats pretty bad sign. If you are talking about a 4th rounder, they don’t have to ever be a full time starter to earn their draft status. Being a key backup and a good ST player is validation enough.
Now, if/when a 4th rnder becomes a starter, and excels he should be considered a steal, and great pick.
Campbell has proven to be neither yet.

The fact he hasn’t contributed, even as a special teamer is a red flag, imo. I don’t see the practices and am not inspired by the sometimes glowing reports. If he lacks the proper knee-bend or other deficiency that makes him an easy mark for a good DT to leverage him out of the way, he’s a liability and needs to be cut. We need 53 guys who all can play any given Sunday in any situation.

Guest123, so you were trying to make a statement, not really asking a question.
“How many years for an O-lineman to work into the rotation before they are considered a bust?” is a question.
“he lacks the proper knee-bend or other deficiency that makes him an easy mark for a good DT to leverage him out of the way, he’s a liability and needs to be cut.” is a statement.
August 30th, 2011 at 11:35 am
guys should stop thinking we can trade guys we will cut for anything of value. nobody would trade for miller or chaz at this point. the only tradeable parts we have are needed by us. we will likely be looking at cuts for LB’s. that’s about it.
August 30th, 2011 at 11:36 am
I wanted Lofa, but not so sure of it now, bad knees, not in game shape, and probably wants to still start and play MLB only.
August 30th, 2011 at 11:36 am
Guest,
Why is BCampbell teetering on bust status in your opinion?
The guy missed most of this abbreviated training camp with an injury. Since, he’s been practicing Corkran has been reporting that he has looked very impressive. He is still battling for a starting spot. However, he will probably begin the season as the backup to Cooper Carlisle. CC is a steady, if unspectacular veteran presence on an otherwise young O-line.
Bruce Campbell is the heir apparent, and his time is gonna come. He is a freakish athlete who is still a lil raw in his technique. He’ll be starting soon enough, and is gonna be a good one, IMO.

Bruce Campbell is no liability. I would like you to watch tape of game 2 and 3 and see the guy in practice and then call him a liability again. He is fighting Carlisle for the starting Rg spot, he has not had his chance to prove anything with the help of Tom Cable but this year he gets his chance and he will show us what he can do. Not a second before that should you say hes on a scholarship
August 30th, 2011 at 11:39 am
All I have seen in CC is him going backward on rollerskates. He’s got just enough technique to spring his man inside to open up the hole, but that is some kind of ugly blocking. CC is going to break his ankles one of these days with all those backward half sumersaults.

i don’t think bruce is the problem–he is still battling to show his stuff. i’d say he needs to prove himself to be at least a quality backup this year. and if that’s all he ever is, that’s not so bad from a 4th rounder. he just got more attention than maybe he deserved b/c of the combine hype. but i sense he is in line to eventually take over at RG. in fact, by this time next year, we will likely be looking at veldheer-wiz-bruce-barks across the line. they could be around for a long time.

My frustration is in starting an old way past his prime vet in Coop when you have this young first-off-the-bus adonis who should by all rights claim the starting gig and be a man-beast at guard next to Veldheer. I always wanted to see that crew on the left side jack people up and road grade for DMC and Bush. It’s what a lot of us where salivating over when we got Beast Campbell.

Bruce Campbell a bust?!?!? The comedians are up early today i see.
Campbell is in his second year, and his second year playing guard, and he already has pushed incumbent veteran line man carlisle to the brink. he will see plenty of time this year, even when he doesnt start. he is just to talented to have o the bench for an entire game. If he doesnt unseat cc at some point this year ( and I think he will), he certainly will be favored to win the gig next year.

Raiders CB Chris Johnson resumed practicing Tuesday.
Johnson underwent a mysterious minor surgery two weeks ago. He was “going hard” through drills Tuesday, so expect to see him in the lineup for the season opener. If that means fewer snaps for Demarcus Van Dyke, it’s good news for Raiders fans.

We have accomplished a great deal in the preseason this year.
The left side of our o-line has been upgraded twenty fold. wiz jr and veldheer will dominate this season on the left. We are firmly entrenched in polishing young b campbell, he will pay dividends this year and especially next when he si the starter from day one. barksdale also will see the field often this year and our o-line which was by far the weak link last year, will be much better.
We have seen more proof that branch and huff will not work together. branch looks like a faster re version of Anthony dorsett. he takes terrible angles, he is late over the top, and cant seem to be in the right spot on any play. huff is still a sub par tackler, has had some coverage issues and cant get to the qb when he blitzes. Brown has been adequate but isnt making the waves he made last year. MM34 is on crutches, so it has been a lost camp for this kid that was supposed to push branch.

cmon man—huff received all-pro votes last year.
tyvon was referred to by collinsworth as a “nightmarish hitter. a good player.” real football people know our safeties are nice.

guys should stop thinking we can trade guys we will cut for anything of value. nobody would trade for any player we have at this point. the only way we can trade is give up draft picks that are needed by us. we will likely be looking at cuts for LB’s. and hope they will play with AL and HUE here that’s about it.

Me and Master Beeeeeecham like to drink margaritas naked in the hot tub together. Just the two of us. We have a plate of cocktail wieners in case we get hungry from all the horseplay.
