NFLN: Pryor to appeal after all

Share

Rookie quarterback Terrelle Pryor will appeal his five-game suspension handed down by commissioner Roger Goodell, according to the NFL Network’s Albert Breer.

No word on when that appeal will take place. The Raiders are currently carrying only two quarterbacks with the release of Trent Edwards Saturday.

Of the Raiders cuts Saturday, one has landed on his feet. Free safety Stevie Brown said on his Twitter account, “goodbye Oakland, hello Carolina.”

Brown played in more than nine games last season so he is not eligible for the practice squad, so the assumption is he is on the 53-man roster.

The Raiders practice at 12:30 p.m. today in Alameda, with media availability to following practice. Practice squad members could trickle back into the facility today, but chances are the Raiders won’t make any announcements until it is complete.

The reason that it is difficult to establish an NFL minor league is the great potential for a player to get hurt and the large size of the rosters. NFL had the Europe league until that became a burden. It is not a cost effective measure for them to establish it especially when they have the NCAA for free and their CBA allows them to do unconstitutional things such as establish a salary cap put age restrictions on entering the league and the draft itself

  • RaiderRetribution

Teams that would be willing to trade a 2nd round pick for Mr. Bush:

    Miami, Indianapolis, Green Bay, Dallas

these are 4 teams that are not really solid at the RB position, with 3 of them viable palayoff/Super Bowl contenders.

Would like to see Briggs come in. But I dont want to give up Bush or a first to get him.

Maybe if Hue can get Briggs here and show him the video about the greatness of the Raiders he would pay to come here hence improving our cap number.

  • RaiderRetribution

for those that do not want us to trade away Michael Bush, understand that BOTH Bush & McFadden are UNRESTRICTED free agents next season.

We will lose one and get nothing in return if we do not make a trade.

We cannot afford to pay both $5 to $10 million a year.

with CJs new contract now franchise tag for an RB will be about 8-9 million I believe.

NFL will refuse to even hear the appeal based on Pryor not filing it on time.

Believe Pryor had 72 hour window to file once he signed and appeared on the roster.

That’s a little murky and open to interpretation, but Goodell and Co. will refuse on that basis. After that the NFLPA would have to step in.

From listening to Pryor’s earlier comments about not appealing and just being happy he was given an opportunity to enter the supplemental, I get the feeling the snake Rosenhaus was pleading with league officials for Pryor’s supp eligibility and was advised they’d allow it but a suspension would be inevitable. Pryor was probably glad to know he wouldn’t have to go a full year without getting the green, and eagerly agreed to Rosenhaus’s ‘negotiations’ with the league office on his behalf.

Just speculation, but how else can you explain Pryor not appealing immediately ?
    —————————————————
Because Davis is behind the latest move that’s all. Typical “maverick” bs from a guy who ought to have other problems to solve. Pryor not going to get this team into the playoffs this year. What a joke.

Terrelle Pryor may have notified the league about his intention to appeal his suspension, there remains doubt about whether it will happen.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Pryor’s lawyer David Cornwell filed a letter to appeal two weeks ago without talking to Pryor, Pryor’s agent, or the NFLPA. Furthermore, Cornwell’s letter reportedly just reserves the right to appeal.

In the meantime, Cornwell has sadly suffered a stroke. He hasn’t spoken with Pryor about the decision to appeal. Pryor hasn’t granted his approval for any appeal to move forward.

Pryor told the NFL he wouldn’t appeal the suspension when he was allowed to be drafted.

“The feeling is Cornwell won’t proceed without Pryor’s consent, though some players around the leauge would like to see an appeal,” Schefter reports.

In short: This is a mess, with a lot of conflicting interests from Pryor to Cornwell to the NFLPA.

If u don’t think soldiers get paid enough take that up with the government. Pryor broke a rule that everyone breaks, its the equivalent of jaywalking, not coming to a complete stop at a stop sign, or running that red light a 3:30 am because it takes forever to change. What he did hurts no one and why its against the rules is a mystery to everyone. In fact its the very essence of what this country’s economy was built on, capitalism. He leveraged his fame, athletic accomplishments, and merchandise against the monetary value he could get for it.

Pryor got suspended for deliberately embellishing his collegiate infractions to increase his chances at NFL eligibility. Didn’t have anything to do with the actual infractions. He tried to put on a dog and pony show for the league’s benefit. He was pulling Goodell’s chain and got called on it.

  • Thec07

So what is the actual Pryor infraction, as it relates to the NFL?
Also was the suspension imposed before or after the lockout?

  • Buckeyeraider

    ‘Sup fellas.

Just FYI…The lil misses just called DirecTV to complain about the Sunday ticket deal. We were sitting here watching Pawn Stars and the commercial came on for free Sunday Ticket for new subscribers and it set her off. She called and said she didn’t think it was fair that we’d had it for 14 years now and new subs got it for free.

The CSR knocked 20 bucks a month, or basically $120 off the price of our Sunday ticket.

It ain’t free, but it works for me.

I’ve heard some people complain that DirecTV wouldn’t work with them. Others have said they were offered free HBO or PPV movie credits to offset the price of the Sunday Ticket. I don’t know. It’s worth a shot.

Wrong he didn’t deliberately embellishments anything. He told the truth, he was suspended for “undermining the draft process” by leaving school and trying to enter the supplemental draft. It was the NFL’s position that he still could have returned to play at OSU and the supplemtal draft OS only for those whose eligibility had changed since the draft. Though he had been ruled ineligible by the university in a letter for his cooperation with the investigation. It really is a suspension that has no grounds and clearly Goodell was extending the suspension from the NCAA to the NFL as a way of sending a message that they will not be used as a shelter for those whom are guilty of NCAA infractions. A message that he chose only to send when a black QB was involved and not when a white coach was hired. Heard he is looking into the vest hiring so lets see if a 5 game suspension is handed down to him.

    Thec,

Pryor broke rules he knew he had to follow going in. He was a poor example of a leader of his team. Although I agree that he SHOULD NOT have to be suspended in the NFL…let’s not excuse bad behavior.

Pryor wasn’t bending the rules to get a meal…he was bending the rules to get some sort of self-satisfaction. It wasn’t right and every young person aspiring to be a leader of a college football team needs understand that.

Not sweep it under the rug as another transgression of an agrieved party.

    181.
Lets not make this a white and black thing. A kid undermined the system. A man got fired from his job. Lots of coaches get fired and hired every year. They get fired for a lot of diffrent things. Pryor was not suspend because he is a black player.

  • Buckeyeraider

The only name I saw on the list that disapointed me was Sterling Moore. I thought that guy had played his way onto the roster. I thought he was physical and really made plays on the ball. I thought he looked better than Joe Porter.

I had hoped Trent Edwards would unseat Kyle Boller. But, he seemed to regress game by game. He made that nice TD toss to Ausberry. Nice throw, even better catch. He looked good vs Ariz, but awful vs NO and Sea.

I was not surprised to see Loper cut. After watching him struggle vs Seattle’s backups I was more surprised that he was ever even considered potential starting material. He was hot, steaming garbage Fri night.

I know nothing has been announced yet, but this team has to scouring the waiver wire for some LB and CB depth. Or a trade in the works. Something. Anything.

I think the defensive struggles have been a lil overexaggerated in here, but the lack of quality depth is alarming. The second and third string defense has been embarrasing. Poor tackling, blown coverages. Awful.

I think with a healthy Seymour and CJ37 on the field, we’ll see a much better performance come Monday Night.

Pryor broke the rules. That is not in dispute. As a college athlete you can’t accept the gifts he received. You just cant.

THe circumstances around it…the NCAA and the hyprocrisy of the American people around “amateur” athletics is a separate issue.

Pryor was the QB and LEADER of that team. That means LEADER on and OFF the field…not just when its convenient.

He broke the rules and paid the price.

However, he should not be suspended by the NFL. THat’s ridiculous

    ++++++++

I never said lets excuse the infractions, however my point is that the NFL had ZERO jurisdiction in this matter. Also if the suspension was handed during the lockout Godell is not suspending players for any transsgressions that happened during the lockout…

Any lawyer will argue this, which is why Pryor’s lawyer filed a right to appeal 2 weeks ago…
