Boss, Mitchell and Murphy still out; no sign of Banta-Cain

Once again, the Raiders are conducting practice without starting tight end Kevin Boss, starting wide receiver Louis Murphy and backup safety Mike Mitchell.
Those three have missed significant playing time and aren’t likely to play against the Denver Broncos on Monday night. In fact, Murphy already has been ruled out by coach Hue Jackson.
Jackson said Wednesday night that Mitchell and Boss would need some meaningful practice time if they were to play against the Broncos.
“I would think so,” Jackson said, when asked if Boss and Mitchell needed some practice time. “We want to take a healthy, enthusiastic team to Denver. We’re going to pack our best ball club and go to Denver and get ready to play on Monday night.”

*The Raiders also are practicing without linebacker Tully Banta-Cain, who reportedly worked out for the Raiders earlier today and passed a physical.
The physical was considered key because he underwent surgery in late July for an abdominal injury.
It’s conceivable that the Raiders will wait until the deadline has passed for a vested veteran — players with four or more years accrued service — before signing Banta-Cain and/or cornerback Lito Sheppard.
By waiting, the Raiders wouldn’t be on the hook for the player’s entire 2011 base salary, only a fraction, if they were to release that player at some point in the season.

*Not sure it means anything, but Chaz Schilens and Denarius Moore were the wide receivers with the second-team offense in the portion of practice viewable by the media.
Jacoby Ford and Derek Hagan were the wide receivers with the first-team offense. It’s worth noting that the Raiders, like most teams, mix and match their receivers throughout practice.

*The Raiders are practicing under the lights once again. They will conclude their night practices Friday night, practice mid-day Saturday and then head to Denver on Sunday.

When the patties struggle against MIA, will everybody assume they’re gonna be 7-9.

  • Sullivan44

Ha ha ha. Brien, this blog is totally separate from the Raiders. The Raiders have no control over it. If you think differently, just go ahead and tell me how much of IBA Al owns.

    I’LL WAIT!

  • alex7

    JB,

can you PLEASE PLEASE tell us how JC has the “necessary skill set”?

Why has he been bottom-15 QB throughout his 7 year career, despite having pro-bowlers at WR, RB, LT, and TE?

Why has he been benched for Todd Collins, 40-year old Mark Brunell, and Gradkowski?

  • Method To My Madness

Alexander…..be a fkin man! Expect to be a winner….expect to rise above it all…..THAT’S WHAT MEN DO!

  • Sullivan44

hA HA HA. As much as Jerry has bashed Al in recent years….Brien thinks the Raiders have control over this blog. My goodness. We might need drug tests in here.

  • Sullivan44

    The necessary skill set. lmfao.

  • http://ohyeah Raider Boldness [RAIDER BOLDNESS] what could come as a surprise and what would be expected are two different things. when the raiders beat the ass off of denver on mnf, many will be unhappy about it. but most will be right in their assesment

U make great points JB, but I really don’t believe J campbell has the intangibles to be that type of QB regardless, u either have it or u don’t, heart also plays a big role, I see fear in camp bells eyes and he takes way too long to makes his reads and get rid of that ball, if u give him time, he can make an accurate throw, but when that pocket breaks down, which it does alot in the nfl with all the great pass rushers, he falls apart, poor instincts under pressure, poor pocket awareness and poor scrambling ability, he cant throw on the run, I don’t trust him running a two minute drill and hes very inaccurate with the long ball which is important in al Saunders offense, but he’s all we got right now, guess we gotta roll with him, but he’s not the QB who’s gonna take us to the promised land

  • Sullivan44

We’re fine. Campbell has the necessary skill set. We saw that necessary skill set against Rams and Pittsburgh last year.

  • Method To My Madness

MR….how the blog separate from Raiders?lol….explain that please….this is the city newspaper for Oakland…..Tribune cant do and say whatever they feel

  • alex7

Hagar, the STARTERS on D gave up an avg. of 60 yards per drive.

We’ve covered this. They were playing the same vanilla man-man D that they ALWAYS play, with a few shaky zones mixed in. There’s nothing to hold back when you play man 90% of plays.

    THAT’S THEIR ENTIRE D PLAYBOOK.

(ok guys, this time play that “other” type of man coverage).

  • priesttj

IMO beating Denver is HUGE for 2 reasons. They are a division opponent and it starts us out at 1-0 instead of in the hole. I know they aren’t an elite team that is not my point. Every Sunday is crucial wins bring confidence and confidence brings wins. Getting to 2-0 make it even more possible that you can get to 3-0. Confident teams are very hard to beat at home the Jets while they have a very good defense can be had if you beta the Jets and get to 3-0 do you think the Pat’s will be more confident coming in here or less?? Just a thought….

  • alex7

    lol Sullivan.

Don’t forget against the 49ers and Titans, when he folded under pressure (career trend), made bad reads (career trend), held the ball too long (career trend), and took a knee when he THOUGHT the D had jumped off-sides (that was original!).

    Some skill set.

  • Sullivan44

brien, tell me how much of IBA.com the Raiders control financially. Not one employee at IBA.com is paid by the Raiders. Go ahead, name one. I’LL WAIT.

I don’t know if Campbell has the necessary skill set for the CFL

  • alex7

Jets ran on Seymour-led defense for 300 yards en route to a 38-0 win in Oakland.

How has our run D improved?

    Simple question.

  • Hagar the Horrible

I wonder which team will give the fat, ugly, Rob Ryan a chance to run their defense after he fails in Dallas with his “prevent-defense?” Maybe Marty Schottenheimer who is now a coach in the United Football League, who coaches the Virginia Destroyers will give him a job.

No, I don’t think Marty is that stupid. Unlucky, yes, won 14-2 for the dischargers and he got fired.

  • Sullivan44

lmao. Jerry hates the Raiders, and fired one shot after another at the organization for his entire tenure here. Shows how much this is a “Raider” blog, dumbass. Not one single person at IBA answers to anyone with the Raiders, including Al.

brien, you’re in full retard mode. Well, you pretty much always are. But tonight you’re showing it. This blog has nothing to do with the Raiders. IT’s a separate media agency. Nobody at IBA answers to the Raiders. So lol@ your dumb insinuations that the bloggers here somehow answer to the Raiders. They don’t. That’s why Jerry told it like it was for years.

Hue wanted to beat the whiners, i think he was even surprised his team laid that dud when they knew he wanted it, preseason or not that game mattered to hue, building a bully means bragging rights for the bay also, I really hope this team shows up Monday night and dominates, a close win over the garbage broncos would be a disappointment, gotta start knocking teams out that don’t deserve to be on the field with us, we have to start imposing our will and dominate, play with heart, right now I only see a few players playing with heart, seymour, denarius, hagan, bush

  • Method To My Madness

Blog has nothing to do with Raiders? Lol yall see MR?What is this blog for?

Brien, jerry was clowning Al after the overhead projector, as was every media agency. If you can’t get that through your thick, retarded skull, I can’t help you.

    hating something you can’t help

  • Hagar the Horrible

Alex…you must work as a defense attorney, as you don’t give up on your point, even when there is no real substance to it. Great, I love that, keep on fighting on. Hope the Raiders do that on Monday nite.

  • Sullivan44

Nobody here answers to Al, Brien. Al has no control over anything here. That’s why so many come here to clown him.

  • alex7

Would Al ever hire a Dom Capers or a Gregg Williams?

    Of course not.

    Will we ever have a top D unless we re-do a veteran-led 2002 offense?

    Of course not.

    Annoying.

All valid points and you could be correct. Maybe right now it’s a case of the glass half full or half empty. Some of the shortcomings you mentioned can be overcome with continued familiarity with the offense and the players. Confidence does improve one’s results. I believe over time this year we will see dramatic improvements. we he ever get to Brees or Rodger’s level? Probably not but he is the best we have at the moment. He’s also the best we’ve had since Gannon went down. Can he win us some games with his arm? Yes I think he can and will. If you think back, when Plunkett came to the Raiders, (I was there to see it) he really stunk the place up. A year or two later he was able to win the Big one. He didn’t do it by himself but that’s because this IS a team game. And, it’s the team that wins and not the individual.

A parting thought. Our shot at a real franchise QB went down the crapper with JaLoser. He set us back a minimum of 5 years. At least this year, it appears that we are going in the right direction. My personal goal for this 2011 team is to win the AFC-West and one game in the playoffs. If we accomplish that, we’ve made giant strides.

  • priesttj

Pipe layer, have you actually watched Jason Campbell play? or are you watching another QB because this idea of him being scared and poor scrambling and poor decision making……….I haven’t seen that player.

I’ve wathed both Rodgers and Brees when under pressure make bad plays, Brees threw a ton of int’s last year due to protection issues and IMO there is no more accurate QB in the league. I’ve seen every QB in history under pressure make bad decisions. Because pressure will do that to you.Drew Brees had his worse season in a while last year as a result of PRESSURE!!
