Lightning punctuates Alameda sky during practice
By Steve Corkran
Friday, September 9th, 2011 at 7:50 pm in Oakland Raiders.
The Raiders were about 25 minutes into their night practice Friday when a lightning flash lit up the Alameda sky. It’s enough to make wonder if coach Hue Jackson is busting open a can three days early.
Regardless, we didn’t need the added illumination provided by the lightning to see that tight end Kevin Boss, safety Mike Mitchell and wide receiver Louis Murphy aren’t at practice.
Jackson already declared Murphy out for the Denver Broncos game Monday night. Now, it appears as if he will be joined by Boss and Mitchell, given they haven’t practiced for more than two weeks — Murphy has missed even more time than Boss.
We should get a more definitive answer from Jackson once practice ends and we are allowed to throw out questions.
*Rookie Denarius Moore split time on punt returns with Nick Miller for the first time this week.
That means one of two things. Either Jackson still isn’t sure who he wants returning punts, or he is getting Moore some time back there in case Miller gets injured or struggles early on Monday.
*Rookie running back Taiwan Jones showed up on the official injury report with a foot injury.
Before the report surfaced, there was no mention of Jones’ injury from Jackson, Jones or any of the players.
Jones appeared fine at practice tonight. We will track him down in the locker room and see if he can shed some light on the origin and exten of his injury.
*Word has it that tonight’s practice will be shorter than each of the past two nights.
No, it’s not because of the lightning, just the way Jackson had it planned all along.

Looking more and more likely that the starting receivers Monday night will be Jacoby Ford and Darrius Heyward-Bey.

With DHB starting, that just gives us an additional blocker on the outside for our running game. If things go the way I expect, the donkeys are gonna get a Heavy dose of 20, 29 & a flash of 22. If JC throws the ball over 25 times, I’l be surprised. I say 15/22 195 yds 1 TD (Moore) 0 Int. We’ll put up 300+ yards on the ground & whoop them into submission. Go Raiders!!!!!!!!

Jersey that would be my recipe for success in this game. Denver wants to fly off the edges and get hits on JC if we ground and pound those tiny DE’s by the 3rd qrtr they’ll be sucking wind and tapping out. If we throw more than 25 times we’ll be making things easy for them. Bill Walsh used to throw early and get a lead and run late whe n teams are tired and more prone to huge gains on the ground. That formula will no doubt pay off if we can get an early lead.
September 9th, 2011 at 8:23 pm
I say we take a page outta Philly’s play book & go to Jacoby on a long ball 1st play like Vick to DJax. What u think???
September 9th, 2011 at 8:24 pm
Pound them with Bush, dazzle them with McFadden and blow there doors off with Jones.
September 9th, 2011 at 8:25 pm
I for one am salivating at the thought of Jones in the open field. I think this kid can be a straight up animal!!
September 9th, 2011 at 8:28 pm
Chaz must not be 100% because he should be at the X if DHB is there it’s due to health. IMHO our best formation is Chaz at the X Ford Y and DHB or Murphy at the Z. at the XI would sub Moore 1st off the bench at the Y for ford and Hagan at the X for chaz. Or maybe Moore in for DHB instead and Miller at the Y for ford.
I like the fact that they used TJ as a WR in the preseason I would find ways to get him on the field with DMC if you split him out you can get him on the field with Ford. This is going to be some serious speed on the field Mon. Nite. If the Broncs aren’t ready it could be over early.
September 9th, 2011 at 8:29 pm
I was thinking the same thing post #11 get TJ on the field as a WR if you have to but get him on the field.
September 9th, 2011 at 8:32 pm
I just want to see defenses try to tackle TJ in openfield with DMC Ford and TJ on the field at the same time. You have matchup issues that haven’t even been seen before.

Get Proyor in there and you have a 4.3 at qb as well.
September 9th, 2011 at 8:41 pm
I fact you even play TJ at the slot with Ford at Z and Moore at X and watch the defense try to cover that witha safety. Leaving a 7 man front to try to stop DMC from taking it to the house.
September 9th, 2011 at 8:43 pm
Just a side note on Pryor’s appeal. We all know that the Commissioner isn’t going to reverse himself on the suspension as he doesn’t want to show weakness. However, it’s possible he could reduced the suspension down to four (4) games, rather than the original six (6). If it’s a good appeal with some good points of merit, then getting a reduction is possible.
If Pryor’s suspension is reducted to four (4) games, it’s an extra $33,333.00 in his pocket, less agent’s commission, plus two games sooner where he can get into the mix.
September 9th, 2011 at 8:47 pm
It would be best for Pryor and the team if his suspension is upheld. He shouldn’t see the field this year,so anything that keeps him from doing so is a bonus for the team.
September 9th, 2011 at 8:48 pm

Don do you think that fact escaped Mr D, he wants to field trhe most athletic highly skilled offense the NFL has ever seen. Thus the appeal….
Pryor wont start at all for at least a couple of season by then the rec’g corp will be seasoned and established. They can play fast break offense that will have DC’s begging for mercy.
September 9th, 2011 at 8:48 pm
If pre season stats don’t mean a thing, why is DHB starting? And if Al Davis isn’t a meddler, why does Coach Hue talk to him everyday?
I for one would like to know if Chuck B is running a mandated defense, or if not, is he running it from a directive?
If the Raiders can beat the buttholes, and I know they will, it will be a huge validation for Coach Jackson.
The Raiders need to be bona fide once again.

It’s becoming more and more apparent to me Lefty12 that they want to play him in certain situations as a wrinkle for DC’s. Otherwise there would be no appeal. I honest feel JC will be the starter for this team for the next several years giving Pryor 3-4 years to mature. They are extremely high on JC right now Pryor gives a player who can force DC’s to use extra practice time on him. taking focus away from their normal preparation. It could work, we’ll see….

Hue has said that if push comes to shove, that Shane is the number three (3) quarterback, and that he has even practiced taking snaps. That he played QB in high school and that he throws a good pass.
If that’s the case and Shane Lechler can throw a decent pass, “WHY hasn’t Hue developed a play” for a fake punt, where Lechler passes for the first down?

Raiders are about 7 million under the cap now:
priority signings [in order of importance]:
1st) Mr. Shaughnessy, he is a premier DE which next to QB & LT, DE is the most important position on the field;
2nd) Mr. McFadden, he is a top 3 rb in the NFL and he will prove it this season;
3rd) Mr. Vehldeer, he would be number one, but we have him for the next 3 years;
4th) Mr. J. Campbell, he is our starting qb and he will prove he is worth the long term contract.
These priorities are based on players performance through the season; I expect each to have a great start; Raiders to be 5-2 by our week 8 bye; thereby proving they are worth big paydays.

On AFC Playbook, Baldinger and Joe T picked the Raiders based on their strong inside running game which will lead to some big plays in the play action passing game by JC. Sharpe picked Denver because of Elvis/Von. Scary sack tandem, but they won’t stop the run. Wiz makes us forget Gallery very fast…DMac will have a huge game.

Best case senario for Monday night. We’re ahead
by 17 or more points, we have the ball on the donkeys 22 yard line, there is only 18 seconds left in the game and the ball is directly snapped back to Darren in the wildcat formation. He takes the snap and turns around and starts running away towards our end zone.
When he gets to the Donkeys 48 yard line, he downs the ball and call time out when the clock ticks down to three (3) seconds.
Then, Seabass and the kicking team come in and Seabass kicks a 65 yard field goal to set a new record for field goals. That would be like an extra kick in the donkeys butt.

Don don’t speak for Al Davis YOU want him to be the man next year. Al Davis knows that kid needs time IMO he has to get his mechanics together those will atke 2 years minimum to get where JC is now. Why would anyone want to go backward as a team. You have a legitimate starter capable of playing at a high level why start a guy who’s not ready? It doesn’t make sense when you have the luxury of not doing that and still being one of the better teams in the league. If we didn’t have a quality starter then OK. But if JC is what I and the org. thinks he is there is no reason to force Pryor into a situation he’s not ready for.

Then have Kyle take the snap. It’s worth giving Seabass a try up in Denver where the ball travels further. Why not. A record that may stand for years and years, by a Raiders kicker, which would piss off many of the haters is well worth 25 yards in stats.

I’ll start talking about Pryor if JC falls apart and the season is toast. Until then he is our 3rd round pick from 2012 and I’m more concerned with 2011. I trust in JC. He seemed to make the right decisions in preseason and looked comfortable. Best QB season for team since Gannon in 2002. This offense was top third in league with an average JC and rookie Ford. I think they improve this year even without ZMill. OLine will also be better…mainly because JV’s improvement at LT and Wiz will grow to be better than Gallery. Still need to get better at RT…maybe Barksdale or Heyer claim spot by mid-season.

I know nobody likes the guy,but on the radio this evening,Trent Dilfer, who will be one of the announcers of the Monday night game, said he believed JC could become a top 12 QB this year.He also said he believed we could be one of the more explosive offenses in the league.Hope he is correct. The problem is he also said A.Smith could also be a top 12 QB,but did admit they were friends and he was biased.

Well been listening and talkn wit fellow raiders fans and can tell everyone is crying about this and that when we know nothing about this team yet…. Let’s see on Monday if we r going to be able to move the ball and stop the run…. Not since 02 has there been a better time to be optimistic about a season…. Everything is in place to make a run…. Qb is in second year of system…. Running game is filled with playmakers… Receiving core has hope… And defense returns 10 of 11 starters….. And we have a coach who can lead us with his play calling…. It’s been a while since all these things were in place…. Now if we can stop the run…. Our curse will be over….. No longer will we be the doormat of the NFL….2011-12 raiders 10-6….. Monday oak 31 Denver 20…. Someone in our back field will rip off a big one…..

Give me a break… if this team is still under .500 … the hell they wont put in Pryor next season. .. if Campbell was so good.. the old man would have never picked up Pryor. … if Campbell can’t push us to a winning record this season… I wont be surprised if he doesn’t return in 2012…. the team would belong to Pryor. … some people here don’t know what their talking about…

I do not expect the Raiders’ run defense to be tested until weeks 5,6, & 7; we face Foster, Hillis, & Charles.
The first 4 weeks we simply face Moreno, Jackson [no the other one], Greene, & Green-Ellis.
Raiders should be a top ten defense against the run after the first 4 weeks, which I think in turn will boost their confidence and aggresive ness in stopping the run when they face top caliber runningbacks.

I don’t know if any of you are watching, but Arizona St. has a pretty good looking QB-6′8″-240.He has a quick release and is accurate.Someone to keep an eye on for sure.

Gannon said this afternoon that he really thinks highly of JC. They asked him if JC could get us to the playoffs and Gannon said yes. He even said if he does take the next step we’ll win the division.
Pundits know JC can play they’re more concerned with our rec’g corp than JC…

You have to be a fool to think the old man wont put in Pryor in 2012 if Campbell stinks it up this season.. idiotic. …LOL.. geez..

our defense will take a step or two back this year.. my prediction is: Raiders-38 Broncos-37
i beleive in our offense, there are too many homerun-hitters on this offense to not score points. however, i could see alot of our games being shoot-outs, kinda like the colts did from ‘02 through ‘06 before their defense got a little better, except our offense will be scoring by the ground AND the pass…

honestly i agree with you about our run d, only because i think teams are gonna be passing all over us.. we need a darren sharper or a trade for cortlan finnagen to help this defense be anywhere near top ten…

[...] Kevin Boss of the Oakland Raiders is not likely to play on Monday vs the Broncos. Also, Louis Murphy will not play on Monday either. Jackson already declared Murphy out for the Denver Broncos game Monday night. Now, it appears as if he will be joined by Boss and Mitchell, given they haven’t practiced for more than two weeks — Murphy has missed even more time than Boss. the player to watch for the Raiders here continues to be preseason sensation and fifth round pick, Denarius Moore. Taiwan Jones appeared on the injury report, but seems likely to play. [...]
