Raiders release injury report

By Steve Corkran
Friday, September 9th, 2011 at 2:10 pm in Oakland Raiders.

The Raiders finally posted their injury report, and it sheds some light on the information that coach Hue Jackson has refused to divulge for, in some cases, more than a month.
For instance, the Raiders officially list cornerback Chris Johnson with a groin injury and safety Mike Mitchell with a knee injury.
I reported Mitchell’s injury, but the information came from a person close to Mitchell. Jackson revealed the Johnson had a surgery in mid-August but not that it was for his groin.
Also, for the first time, we learned that:
1. Wide receiver Chaz Schilens’ injury against the Arizona Cardinals on Aug. 11 was to his knee, and he was limited in practice Thursday.
2. Wide receiver Louis Murphy’s surgery was on his groin.
3. Outside linebacker Darryl Blackstock suffered a concussion at some point.
4. Rookie running back Taiwan Jones is nursing a sore foot, and he was limited in practice Thursday night.
5. Wide receiver Derek Hagan suffered a calf injury and not a “ding.”
6. Rookie cornerback DeMarcus Van Dyke injured his ribs at some point, though he was full go in practice.

The Raiders don’t practice until 7:05 tonight. Jackson is required to provide an update on the aforementioned players. At that time, we also should get a better idea as to whether Mitchell and/or tight end Kevin Boss (knee) will be able to play against the Denver Broncos on Monday night.

CorkOnTheNFL For the record, WR Chaz Schilens and RB Taiwan Jones were “limited” in practice Thursday night. See if that designation changes tonight.

Thec….simple as this…Hagan is a WR with size and hands that can run routes and isnt brittle. He also shown ability to make something happen after the catch. Also he will take punishment and hold on to the ball. no other WR on this roster can say that

    ^^^^^^^^^
    EXACTLY!

Play the players who make plays….CONSISTENTLY!!

What was it many said about a certain ex-QB who used to play on our team-you can’t teach accuracy.Yet people now say once Newton learns to be accurate he will be good.Which is it?
    ================================================
Very difficult to make dramatic improvements in accuracy. Some would say impossible.

I think it’s important to recognize that there could be instances where a correction to a mechanical flaw, poor throwing motion or footwork might result in improved accuracy.

If a guy shows decent accuracy at times and not such good accuracy at others, then it’s possible that more consistent accuracy could be achieved if the problem is due to poor mechanics or delivery.

But in general, I’d have to say accuracy can not be significantly improved. Either you have it or you don’t.

*The Raiders have seven wide receivers on their roster. For whatever reason, Hagan is the only one not listed.
Naturally, that comes across as curious, given Hagan was Oakland’s most-productive receiver in the exhibition season.
    Jackson has an explanation.
“I probably didn’t get around to it,” Jackson said. “I probably was tired. I was up late last night and just forgot to write his name in. There’s no doubt. Derek Hagan is a good player and a contributing player on this football team.”

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Actually, the logical conclusion to be drawn from that is just bad for the Raiders.
    Bad, but not news.

Hagan was indeed released by two teams and DHB-run that straight line-was indeed worse.

  32. Plunketthead Says:

I had a long talk with Mister Davis last night and he explained why he likes DHB. He broke out the projector and the overhead and broke a few things down. The main point is DHB can do things very few WR’s in the NFL can do. All he has to do is learn to catch the dam ball.

He also pointed out that there have been many WRs throughout the years who have learned to catch. The bottom line is if DHB figures it out he will be huge and the only way to find out is too play him.

Eli last season was accurate i agree as he led lead with 25 ints
    ========================================

A lot of times, Int’s are not the Q’s fault. They are the fault of the receivers. And if you looked at the NYG receiving corp last year, I would bet Manning would not be to blame for a lot of that.

What is the perfect Al Davis QB?Can we say Jamarcus Russell.Should just resign him!!!

  81. Plunketthead Says:

Its not the coach. Peyton, drew, rivers rodgers probaly run things as much as the coach, some of them watch more film

  82. Plunketthead Says:

    I will spell it out.
It is the probowl future hall of fame QB that makes the WRs look so great. Great QBs inspire the men around them. Players play hard for the ball and the QB coaches the WRs and the Oline as much as the coaches in many cases

I’m not surprised that the line favors Denver in this game after losing Nnamdi! That makes all the difference plus Miller and Gallery and Cable……..
I remember the Broncos O going apeshiz all over the Raiders. Broncos by 20.

  84. Plunketthead Says:

Putzhead has a wicked arm. He can sling that ball and make all the passes on the field from short to long. Denver should never have let him go.

the Andrew Luck sweepstakes about to begin.

Carolina could conceivably lose every game on their schedule (if you don’t believe me check it out and try to envision any winnable games for them). Then what do they do? trade the pick and keep their Cam project while watching Luck have success somewhere else? their turd in a suit owner is gonna be hacking up for the next seven months.

Indy without Peyton is in the running for first to worst in a heartbeat. A clueless HC and a headless team is a helluva an adversary for those who need Luck.

Miami can implode at any moment with the Sparano-Henne debacle in play.

The Buffies wasted their money on CJ Spiller when they could’ve had a superior Clemsonite in Jacoby for little cost and with no QB they could be in the sweepstakes with no effort at all.

Carroll has littered his roster with failure. The SeaGulls have a chance.

Daniel Snyder can always pay his players to squander every game. The twisted RatFace could be on the winning ticket.

the Zygi Wilf’s finding Donovan McDoesn’t and a declining D can find their way into Luckdom.

The unfortunate jerk, Haley, and the caving in Cassell can also easily turn their own first to worst into a pick.

others may apply. the TBone-less, Quinn-fed donks can stake their claim just by folding the tent.

so it goes ladies and gentlemen, let the games begin.

    FIRST

Just wanna say how proud I am to get to be part of a community of other Raider fans like this. Few people have I met that are actually fans of this team.

    Second…

Hagan has played better than DHB thus far. Yes, DHB finally had some catches this pre-season, but I believe Hagan deserves the chance to play. Hagan being cut by other teams can be seen as a red flag, but one thing we have to remember is this game is being palyed by men, much more goes into the motivation it takes to play in this league. If a good situation, with the drive to prove ppl wrong is what he needed. I think he is THE PERFECT RAIDER, a guy who redeems himself in the Silver and Black. DHB could still be good, but he’s gotta earn it.

    Third…

Jason Campbell will be the key to this season. If he does not scare defenses DMC cannot do his job. Campbell NEEDS to get the ball off quicker. 1-2 progressions, then check down. That simple. The longer he waits, the better chance our in-experienced line gets a holding penalty.

Stoked for the new year, hope everyone has a great weekend watching the games. Sorry for leaving such a long comment, just excited for that first time.
