Janikowski AFC Special Teams Player of the Week

By Steve Corkran
Wednesday, September 14th, 2011 at 9:44 am in Oakland Raiders.

Raiders kicker Sebastian Janikowski was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his three-field goal performance in a 23-20 victory over the Denver Broncos on Monday night.
Janikowski’s perfect night included an NFL record-tying 63-yard field goal at the end of the first half, three field goals without a miss and five touchbacks in as many kick-offs.
Buffalo Bills coach Chan Gailey said it’s time to start worrying about Janikowski kicking a field goal anytime the Raiders reach the 50-yard line.
“It’s huge to have that,” Gailey said in a conference call with the Bay Area media Wednesday morning. “The thing that has amazed me through the years is, yes, he has a powerful leg but he’s extremely accurate. Everybody wants to talk about how far he kicks it, but he gets points. Almost every time, I’m not saying he’s 100 percent, but he’s great at his trade. It’s a huge weapon for a team to be able to depend on points like that.”
Practice starts in about 15 minutes, as the Raiders work out at the time their game against the Bills starts Sunday.

    ^^^

    Really? I don’t.

I wan’t a more cerebal LB running the show. Be a hothead from whistle to whistle. Then spend the time between plays thinking, analyzing, talking, getting feedback, always thinking, always working.

Wasting time shoving people in between plays is not preparing to dominate the next play.

what is the difference in weather in Buffalo to Oakland in the month of September?

  6. J Hill Says:

I only saw one incident, if you want to call it that, with RoMac, and he didn’t get a penalty so I’m ok with it.

The Denver player was stil engaging him when the play was clearly over, and Ro just backed him the eff up off of him.

I get what you are saying though. I think RoMac is, for the most part, that cerebral guy you’re talking about.

I hear the Raiders are protesting the spot of the ball on Janibrewski’s field goal. They are trying to get the NFL officiating folks to recognize it as a 64-yarder, putting Seabass in a league of his own. Good luck with the getting NFL officials to rule in your favor, Al!

“Stop trying to bite my style,”

    I OWN YOU!

I told you yesterday all day that we failed at throwing the ball and you proclaimed that we were not trying to throw the ball.

It wasn’t until the Hue Jackson interview was published last night that you were proved to be wrong by our coach who admitted the passing game was a failure last week and needed work.

Now insert some lame comment by your prag Bcz24 like I am rubber you are glue……
    =========================

i have no idea what a prag even is, im guessing this is where you start talking that gey ish you normally do. stop telling on yourself.

I said the game plan was to run, and take a few shots down field. i was right as evidenced by the low number of 22 pass attempts. HU jack saying that we need to improve doesnt refute what i said in any way. In fact I agree with hu jack, he needs to continue to prod JC and the rest of the team to get better. no where did i read Hu jack claim the passing game was a “failure”, or that his qb failed.

In fact he offered this on his qb

“Jason is the leader of this offensive football team and they follow him. I send subliminal messages through the mic to him, but he gives the guys in that huddle what he wants to give them. He was able to urge that group on to finish the game and that’s what this is all about. You have to as a quarterback get guys to play at a higher level and he was able to do that. They finished the game the way we hope to finish every game – in victory formation.” –HU Jack on the play of JC vs denver

Again hu jack saw what i saw, a solid performance in adverse conditions an a hostile environment, and there is always room for improvement.

    What is your point/damage?

Was getting a little dicey there in the 3rd, but honestly, the RT was just as miserable as ever as well, so that didn’t help.

And I thought the DHB pass was just as much DHB’s fault as Soup’s. Yes, since the safety was nowhere in sight, Campbell had a lot more field to work with.

But even with DHB’s abysmal footwork on the sideline, he still damn near made the catch. He cleans that up and I don’t know tries to catch the ball with his hands at shoulder level, instead of his elbows at hip level, it can easily be a catch.

    (the week after our loss)…

the bills had the ball just 6.02 in the first half
(worst in the nfl at that point), but were behind ‘only’ 0:13.

fitzpatrick started 2nd half with a very nice pass happy drive (capped by a fumble).

he is known as fearless, squeezing the ball in etc,
but on this drive he also ran into polamalu to block him, after he handed the ball to the rb

    Finally rewatching the game …

First play I have is the kickoff after Denver goes up 3-0.

Sweep to DMac that Dell was talking about with Barnes in motion.

Yeah, we gained 9 yds, but if Reece can could make a decent block on that LB, that is AT LEAST a 20 yd run.

Their return game has been a bit more reputation than substance for awhile. Seabass is booting all his kicks out of the endzone so that is not even a concern. Lechler has only ever given up 4 PRs for touchdowns in 11 years, would be 3 if the refs called the obvious hold on monday. Not concerned on this front.

i felt this was a reach, and force feeding. Wow,

They just showed the replay of that same play but from the end zone view. I think that’s a ball that JC should have thrown to DHB. There is a window there where the DB is flat footed reacting to DHB selling the corner route and then he breaks to the post. If Glo reads that and, eh hmmm, cuts it loose, DHB has a big play.

7 of jc’s 13 completions went for first downs. He had two tds’ and no turnovers. he was money in the clutch and he is making our offense better than just respectable. i love what he and DHb have cooking.

Most of our young draft picks from the last 3 years are playing major roles and looking good. i guess uncle Al’s bigger stronger faster formula still has merit, despite what the impostors want us to believe.

Hopefully he’s also secretly having some of the players get chippy with one another. That’s one of the big problems. Guys losing their cool. And you can bet coaches are asking their players to take advantage of it by poking and prodding while the refs aren’t looking. Poise baby. Practice ehat you preach. Be smart in your retaliation. Take out your frustration on the next play, like Shonasty did on the sack. Came through that line like a man possessed.

Look, I like Jason Campbell and I will support him as a Raider, but lets stop blamming the recievers for not getting open. If you watch the games, you see WR open all day long. You don’t need 5 yards to be considered Open. Look at some of the elite QB’s. They throw their receivers open. That also allow their receivers to make plays. If you put DHB on the Pats, Packers, or Saints. he catches 70 balls for 1300+.

Jason doesn’t trust himself right now. Also if you can run like we did Monday, why throw it?

hue said his call mentioned just coming back from injury

  87. J Hill Says:

I don’t know how reliable that stats is about CJ37 getting 6 outta 7 balls caught on him.

We were just playing a zone on 3rd and 16, Lloyd caught a 10 yd crossing pattern and CJ37 tackled him way short of the 1st dn marker.

I think that was a positive play for CJ37 on 3rd down to get us off the field.

Blocked a punt on the next play.

  88. The Big Banana Says:

The refs appreciate good acting, so pit on a performance. A guy pushes you after the whistle, go to the ground, wait for the penalty then hit him in the effing mouth (figuratively) on the next play. Be smart!

Maybe we aren’t that far along in the playbook yet.

I’ll speak for myself. I am not saying RoMac’s a bum. He’s got a lot of talent. But he needs to mature in his role. The 38 yards rushing wasn’t all him.

Satele is just getting tossed around. Very ineffective so far.

Again with this 3 WRs on one side and running the ball.

I can easily see this play being expanded to have a pss option. Denver is NOT adjusting, and we are running into 7 and 8 man fronts.
