Stevie Johnson vs. Chaz Schilens

Share

Wide receivers were a popular commodity in the 2008 NFL draft, with 35 selected during the seven-round process.
Long after such notables as DeSean Jackson, Jordy Nelson and Eddie Royal were selected, the Buffalo Bills drafted Stevie Johnson in the seventh round with the 224th pick and the Raiders took Chaz Schilens two picks later.
As further evidence of what a crap-shoot the draft is, the Raiders selected Arman Shields in the fourth round in the same draft.
Johnson was the 31st receiver snatched up, Schilens the 32nd. Schilens caught 15 passes for 226 yards and two touchdowns his rookie season, and he appeared headed for a productive NFL career.
Johnson snared 10 passes for 102 yards and two touchdowns for the Bills in 2008. He added only two for 10 yards the following season.
Then came 2010, when Johnson had the breakout season Raiders fans hoped to see from Schilens at some point.
Johnson caught 82 passes for 1,073 yards and 10 touchdowns last season. Schilens caught five passes for 40 yards and one touchdown.
Bills coach Chan Gailey said Johnson has developed into a much better player than he thought he would when he scouted him at Kentucky.
“I had evaluated him when he came out, when I was in Kansas City,” Gailey said. “I thought he was a good player but I didn’t know he was this good, to be honest with you. A lot of people didn’t, or he wouldn’t have gotten drafted in the seventh round.
“He’s been a great surprise and I’m happy for him. He’s a good young man. He’s come a long way and we have a great deal of confidence in him right now.”
Naturally, injuries have been the biggest obstacle for Schilens since he joined the Raiders. He is healthy once again and hopeful of the kind of season Johnson had last year.
In Oakland’s first game, Schilens didn’t have any passes thrown his way. Johnson caught four for 66 yards and a touchdown in Buffalo’s 41-7 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.
Overall, Johnson’s career stats dwarf those of Schilens. He has twice as many receptions (98-49), almost twice the yardage
(1,251-631) and more than twice the touchdowns (13-5).
“It was just opportunity, that’s it,” Johnson said. “Nothing clicked, it was just Gailey giving me an opportunity, and my receivers coaches putting me in the right spot and making sure I’m on game for each week,” Johnson said.

Florio makes sense but games should start at 4:15. Thats not a big deal

  • Plunketthead

I am watching NFL (I can just barely put up with Sapp untill BSPN). But I was wondering who I would like to have a beer with.

Mooch = Too much of a know it all
Irving = hell yes and I would keep my mouth shut
Sapp = no way with the fish eyed fool
    Faulk = hell yes
Warner = heck yes although I doubt he drinks

  • Plunketthead

The pats did not line up in a 3-4 at all last week against Miami.
    Maybe they should have.

  • big pep

j.c. needs to bring it today, i hope his wideouts can get open for a change, or its gonna be a bad game for dmac.

  • raidermarty

Well the early east coast games have been a factor for us but we’ve just gotta find a way to win these games no matter what the circumstances are. I think(hope)Hue will have them ready to go. If we play low penalty football we can win!
    GO RAIDERS!!!

  • Plunketthead

Would love to see JC throw for 300 plus, a pair of TD’s and no turnovers. Big wish!

  • TerrapinRaider

Ford is out so I’m a little concerned DHB will not play or is less than 100%. That makes 2 of our starters down. Moore, Chaz, Miller & Hagan will get a lot of run.

Given health issues at WR I think we will try to run run and run some more. Then pass on occasion. We just can’t get behind. Defense, defense, defense. We have to ride these horses to another win.

  • TerrapinRaider

Hagan will likely be activated. Ausberry may be activated as well along with Boss. This will help the passing game with DHB & Ford down but we won’t have much of a deep threat. Expect a lot of short/mid range passes.

Moore & Schilens (maybe Miller) can get deep but they’re not DHB or Ford speed.

Yeah. That’ll be pretty difficult when your two wides are down, well 3 including Murphy.

So I would expect another run first second and maybe pass short here and there.

  • Plunketthead

    Terrapin

Thats why I think winning the coin toss is a big deal for us. Most teams like to get the ball first in the second half. We need the ball first and sustain a long drive with a TD. It means a lot more to us then most teams

  • Plunketthead

Carson Palmer in football shape and ready to go throwing balls to his old mate whosyourdaddy

  • Just Fire Baby

I would have the drink with The Playmaker, because a few drinks would probably lead to hookers and blow afterwards.

  • JamesPlunkett

Forget getting the ball first, this D-Line is special let Bills know right from the get go what kind of game it’s gonna be, killing you’re Qb and stuffing the run. GO RAIDERS!

  • Plunketthead

lol That shows how old I am getting. I didnt think about hookers and blow. I just want to hear him tell tales.

  • JamesPlunkett

Just don’t cut in front of Swearing Irving at the barbershop or you may get the scissors to the neck!

  • big pep

d.h.b. being out is no big deal. this dude has yet to prove his worth. more important is that he and j.c. just cant seem to connect. if hes open down field j.c. cant get him the ball, its always out of bounds or short. d.h.b. on the other hand doesnt know how to run routes or shake a defender off him to give his q.b. a chance.

Heard the stories, wanted to get that book but never did yet.

  • Just Fire Baby

    Is DHB officially “out”?

  • Just Fire Baby

My offseason prediction of DHB having more weeks inactive than TD catches will gain some solid footing.

Really wanted to be wrong on that one.

  • big pep

d.h.b. has been out for all but 1 game since he was drafted. like i said him being out is not different hen him being in the game. i just hope im wrong.

  • Mistic1 Tha Supavillain

DHB is out? I must have missed it. Even if he is the long ball is still a big weapon for us. Dmoe can fly, & Chaz runs a 4.3. Are wr group is the fastest in the entire NFL & they are deep. We will be fine

  • Mistic1 Tha Supavillain

Sebass youre an idiot. Don’t drop the soap, you will be fresh fish!

  • Mistic1 Tha Supavillain

Lol at victor Ortiz trying to clean up his dirty tactics with lame excuses. Mayweather has changed his style, he is far more flat footed and throwing with far more power. Perhaps because he is getting older. PAC man would get his a$$ kicked if they fought today!

  • Just Fire Baby

Money Mayweather is probably my favorite athlete.

Ortiz would have gotten knocked out eventually anyways.

Floyd is like the Bellicheck of fighters. Every fight, he adapts and changes his style to get the victory.

  • Morning Plunketthead.

  • What’s the weather like in Buffalo? Windy?Wet?

  • Raiders for life

    Who’s returning kick offs today?

  • Miller?

  • Branch returned kicks in college…….just saying.

  • Plunketthead

I have not paid for a pay for view in forever but I would pay to watch Mayweather/Manny and root for mayweather

  • Off to watch Man U/Chelsea game.Back later.

  • Happy Game day nation!

  • Just Fire Baby

While the wife and I never “paid” for the closed circuit viewing parties we always use to go to, to watch the fights, I think the casino’s got there money back.

You would have loved them though Plunk. They would put them in the cirque theaters, free booze and food, somewhere between 2-3K watching.

Next best place to be other than the fight itself.

I haven’t missed a Money fight in probably the last 6 years.

  • Just Fire Baby

Key to victory today should be pretty simple.

Limit penalties to a somewhat acceptable level, win the turnover and ST battles.

Offensively, I think both teams match up well. We should be able to run the ball on them, they will probably be able to move the ball through the air on us.

  • Mistic1 Tha Supavillain

I love Floyd as a fighter, I think he is hands down the best of this generation. He is an embarrassment for black people outside of the ring. He will have major problems when his time is up, there will be nothing left to feed his ego. Life would be better if we never had to see any behind the scene footage or had to hear him speak. He is exactly what mainstream media & the powers that be want all black men to be like, a compoets ignorant fool, that will do anything for money & nothing to uplift his people. He is the modern Negro in the same class as basketball wives, & cat Williams.

Bless up the youth, # wegotproblems.com

    Seymour really hurt?
The ticker on NFL network, says Seymour will be monitored by medical staff. cannot remember seeing this describition on the ticker before.

  • Silverandblack666

The Vegas over under on how many yards JC will have passing is 180

The over under on how many yards McFadden will run for is 92.5

  • I hate to say it, but Go Pats.

  • Just Fire Baby

He is an embarrassment for black people outside of the ring.

    ****************************

    Seriously???

Having lived in Vegas for 7 years, let me tell you that he is loved by just about everyone there, does a ton of charity work, fuels the economy, and has probably paid for half of the inner-city high school sports equiptment in the town.

People outside of Vegas may hate him, but he is an icon in Vegas, not just as a fighter.

His dad is the money-grubbing, degenerate, ignorant fool.

Shouldn’t we be getting an active/inactive list by now???

I use to go to that stuff when I drank. I had nice comps to the no mas fight at Ceasers and I saw a few live. I saw Ali whup McQuarry in his first fight after Jail. That was at the convention center and I sold peanuts. I was 15

  • Just Fire Baby

Never been to a live fight outside of the Friday Night fights at the Orleans (promoted BTW by Money Mayweather and philthy rich promotions).

So who starts at WR next too Chaz?

    Nick Miller?

    Jfb,

Yes seriously. Charities are tax write offs and photo ops. Calculated public relations strategies Tha cannot mask the odor of reckless ignorance. He is not setting a positive example for my people to follow & is in the same category a’s 50 cent, highly paid minstrels.

Giving to charity doesnt make you a leader. David duke donated to charities too. If he wasn’t such an idiot I doubt he would have the platform he does. Amerikkka loves his kind, and will continue to promote him a’s he leads his own people to the grave.

When he can no longer box he will be useless.
