I’m a McClain fan, but I got to admit, that other than those 2 batted down balls, he had a horrible game. Looked slow out there and I saw him always trailing on plays and not giving 100% effort, IMO. He needs to get his schit together this weekend against the Jets.

“What’s wrong with the Raiders and how can they fix things?”
Good topic, I can answer the first half of the question.
September 19th, 2011 at 12:14 pm
Could The defense have played worse? Al needs to quit mandating the base 4-3. The bills are not the patriots and scoring a Td on 5 straight second half possessions is embarrassing. where does the defense go from here? The offense is very encouraging but the defense looked as bad as it have ever been in the last 8 years.
September 19th, 2011 at 12:15 pm
Raiders FS Michael Huff (groin) did not start and was limited in yesterday’s loss to the Bills.
Huff’s limitations really hurt Oakland. Matt Giordano started and was repeatedly burned in both run support and coverage as the Bills rang up 38 points.

DMAC It just goes to what I’ve been saying that kid was running uphill all game in the first half he played much better in the second half he looked like he was 50 years old. The two road games and the crosscountry trip on a short week showed there’s no getting around that.
You wnat to sya suck it and play but to say it doesn’t make a difference is silly. If you watch any NBA team play a back to back game they rarely win because going down the stretch they fade. It’s a known fact.

SnB you couldn’t tell that defense was GASSED?? It’s not an excuse we should’ve WON but that doesn’t mean they weren’t GASSED. I’m not saying that’s why we lost, but to say they weren’t tired and it had no affect is stupid.
====================================================
Priesttj,
They didn’t look “GASSED” in the 1st half. The defense had an 18 point lead.
Who was gassed? If we have players too tired to do their jobs…put the backups in.
I am just fed up with the excuses. This year is about production and just getting the job done.
They had an extra day in Buffalo to chill out and relax and until there is some sort of expansion…the Raiders will have to come East.
Should we just have a built in excuse for games against Miami, Cincy, Green Bay and Minnesota?
I don’t like that. I need to here the players say they were “gassed” and the backups were “gassed” too.
I just chalk this up as a lost opportunity.
Hopefully we are not all sitting here at the end of the year commiserating over lost opportunities.
September 19th, 2011 at 12:17 pm
we didn’t rush the quarterback and we didn’t stuff the run …
end result = loss
Last week against Dungver we accomplished both of those feats. what gives?
Buffalo has a good o-line now? Chan Gailey is a legit coach? those garbage TE’s could start for ANY nfl team?
No. the Raiders played down to the competition. The Offense played “balls out” and the Defense didn’t.
Remember those games last year we were supposed to win – but didn’t; that kept us out of the playoffs?
This was one of them. 5 TD’s allowed in the 2nd half is unacceptable!
We were outscored 17-7 last week after half-time. 35-14 this week
Do the Raiders know how to FINISH? Gotta close out these ballgames man. The Bills were like Rocky Balboa yesterday. We never delivered the knock out punch

I agree with you all the time but I think getting the players to exucute is more important then Hue drawing up great plays. We can only get away with a handfull at the most. Plus we scored enough to win.
Defense Players need to tackle and quit miffing. FIVE straight TDs in the second half. We can blame the D scheme where we play back to far when QBs start picking us apart on slants. We have to fix that

Green Bay went to a Super Bowl with a ton of injuries.
If the backups can’t even function…why are they on the roster.
Lets limit the excuses and just admit the defense was worked over.
September 19th, 2011 at 12:19 pm
The defense stunk in every aspect. McClain was one of many culprits. The scheme is horrible. Wimbley and groves are natural de’s masquerading as linebackers and are losing the edge perpetually. The safety play was an abortion as well..bresnehan is in over his head. The unit does not look coached up.
September 19th, 2011 at 12:19 pm
I think the biggest factor yesterday was that the defense just took its foot off the gas to start the second half. The tackling and overall effort in the third quarter were terrible. I think they had 2-0 penciled in far too early after building that 21-3 lead and basically dominating the first 6 quarters of the season.
At that point Buffalo had the momentum, they had a good game plan for the 2nd half. And we just couldn’t rally to make that final play to seal the game. Simple as that.
September 19th, 2011 at 12:19 pm
The Raiders should have been able to field a defense with just reserves and make ONE DOGGONE stop for the 2nd half
September 19th, 2011 at 12:20 pm
I think the Raiders might need to consider moving Mr. McClain to the outside

SnB Sometimes it’s damn near shocking how little you know about sports. In the first half the hadn’t played it’s the second half when that gets to you. The Raiders were starting to fade in the 2nd qrtr by the end of the 3qrtr that defense was dead… it’s common, coaches try to get you to fight through it and they tried but that defense was slow and missed tackle after tackle in the second half. THAT IS A TIRED DEFENSE!!
Have you ever seen an NBA play back to back games they always fade in the 2nd half………..that same principle applies I’m not saying we couldn’t win I’m saying they were GASSED and it showed.
September 19th, 2011 at 12:22 pm

so…
Jason Campbell goes 23/33 for 325 yards & 3 TD’s
McFadden, Bush & Jones rush 25 times for 99 yards (3.96 ypc) & 2 TD’s
Moore & Hagan instead of DHB, Murphy, Ford or Miller at WR gave us solid play from this unit – how long has it been?
ROMAC was a tackling machine. Routt intercepted a pass. Ryan Fitz only completed 60 % of his passes. Stevie Johnson left the game on the potential game-winning drive (injured). CJ37 looked like Deion Sanders in the last 2 minutes of the game
and we still lost!
who is to blame?
Chuck B? Hue Jackson?

Perhaps.
I just think it was poor communication and discipline that lost the game.
The Raider defense had to make one play in the whole 2nd half and couldn’t do it. Just 1.
If the starters are as “Gassed” as you say…then put in the backups and let them play more to give the D rest.
There is no excuse or reason under the sun for that loss.
Time to regroup, learn and move on
September 19th, 2011 at 12:26 pm
I don’t buy the fatigue factor either. I don’t think the game you played 6 days ago or the 5-hour flight from two days ago are legitimate excuses for poor performance by a group of professional athletes. Particularly when it was a non-factor for the first half of a game.
All that stuff from days prior somehow catches up to you at halftime? I’m not buying it. Guys got complacent and played soft. Bills came out with a good plan and executed it. Chuck B had few answers for that plan. Simple as that.

The Raiders biggest problem is focus…just like prior years.
I still think as a unit they take plays off and it bites them in the backside.
They need leadership really. Seymour is providing some of that but he too sounds like a “follow my example” type guy.
They need, I hate to say it…but a Brian Dawkins / Ray Lewis type to just hold everyone accountable from a player standpoint.
I “think” they have the talent..although I could be proven wrong….they have to execute.
And execution is still a problem for this franchise

No, he’s a budding super star boss in the middle.
But the attitude of the defense has to change a little.

No key plays…no sense of urgency…just a run through the motions.
If it was just ONE key drive…I would say too bad and that the other team gets paid too.
But no stops for an entire half…and 35 points with only the clock stopping more.
That’s what 11 role players do. Not 5 or 6 good to elite players

still dont see how anyone can blame chuck b. was it the wrong call when cj dropped the int? what about branches dropped int or the forced fumble that was robbed, where thos the wrong calls too? how about running backs breaking arm tackles at the line of scrimmage and turning into big runs, wrong defensive call? make the plays and we arent having this discussion.
The takes on davis’s socalled mandated defense are ridiculous. we ran zone and blitzed, is this a davis mandate?
we play man to man people blame davis, now we run multiple looks and people still blame davis.
It is a new scheme and the players are trying to learn it, it will take time to gel

I think we can beat the patsies, it will be a shoot out.
The pats cant stop the run or the pass. last team with the ball will win

mistic
I agree.
This one is all on the players.
There are enough playmakers on that defense that should have made one stop.
They got lazy. Hue has to instill discipline into this group

The depth for the entire back half of our defense is awful. Mitchell was sorely missed yesterday. We need to resign Lito and reactivate Moore. Cut Nick Miller the field position/roster spot killer and cut Stephon Heyer. Our Oline played very well yesterday and Heyer wasnt even activated.

Fitz just had an amazing pocket all day. It looked to me like we were all around him, we were getting a push, just not enough.

Question……..would that have happened if Marshall was still D coach?

The Raiders better be on the horn with Lito Sheppard, and activating Sterling Moore. The rest of our secondary could cover a warm cup of pis$.
We dont have the talent in the secondary to stay competitive with the rest of the NFL right now. We need some real help back there and we need it fast.

BCZ,
with the type of defense that the Raiders run – there really isn’t a guy you can just trade for or sign off the street to improve the team immediately
Outside of Asomugha & Routt, I bet CJ37 is the best CB in the league at playing the Raiders style of defense.
I would welcome Sheppard & SMoore back, but in exchange for who? Chekwa & Porter? Miller & Ausberry?

It all starts up front.
The LB’s need the front four to smash.
The DB’s need the front 4 to smash.
Our Db’s looked just fine in Den, our front 4 were ballin and blitz’s weren’t on film yet. Buff gets paid too they saw those blitz’s and adjusted.

Miller and Heyer. Hue says he is all about performance and these guys have show they CANT perform.

The Raiders defense should spend the entire week doing nothing but Tackling drills.

Is anyone the least bit surprised by this loss? The only thing surprising was that it wasn’t by more. The D was TERRIBLE all pre-season and only the blind would have seen it otherwise. I figured we’d be 1-1 to this point and am still holding to the team being 6-10 by season’s end. ONLY KC and Denv seem like good bets. It’s going to be a LOOOOONG season. Not a Raider-hater either. Have loved this team for 35 years but the inability to play the Present-Day game is crazy.

Sunday’s game will go a long way in determining whether this team is 6-10 or 10-6. While there are some obvious things that need to be fixed, I’m very encouraged by the offense. The Jets have a good defense so the Raiders will have to play at their best. I agree with you with some concerns about the defense, but at the same time we have pretty good players. They need to play up to their potential every play to give us a chance.
BTW, why does Al Sanders say he needs to wait for a replay to advise coach Jackson to challenge. Someone with a DVR, needs to just rewind it real quick. Those are the little things that we may need to do to gain an advantage.
Raiders fans, huge game Sunday! Let’s create an environment that gives our team any edge we can, cause God knows they need it. One game at a time, but Sunday is huge.

I think we need to look at trading one or two of our wide receivers when they are all healthy for a more solid cornerback. We seem to be solid in the wide receiver area once Murphy is healthy. I could deal with possibly trading him to strengthen our secondary. Also I wanted to point out that the one all the analisysts said was our best o lineman in the preseason Robert Gallery, is hurt again and out 4 to 6 weeks. I still feel that letting him go was a great decision. We need to make sure that Sunday we play defense on our toes like we did against Denver and not on our heels like we did against Buffalo
