Ford still out, Taiwan Jones returning kicks
By Steve Corkran
Thursday, September 22nd, 2011 at 10:39 am in Oakland Raiders.
Wide receiver/kick returner Jacoby Ford is not at practice today as he recovers from the strained hamstring he suffered in the regular-season opener. His expected absence has cleared the way for rookie Taiwan Jones to return kicks Sunday against the New York Jets.
Jones was the lone player who returned kicks in practice today. Nick Miller replaced Ford in that capacity against the Buffalo Bills last Sunday, but he avearged only 15.3 yards on his four returns.
As a result, coach Hue Jackson said everybody is an option until further notice, or at least until Ford returns.
Jones is the so-called next man up. He returned kicks in college and has the speed to break off long returns at any time. That’s something the Raiders have lacked through their first two games, as none of their returns has reached their own 20-yard line.
Coincidentally, Miller was on kick coverage while Jones was retuning kicks.
Also, wide receiver Louis Murphy and backup safety Mike Mitchell are not at practice once again. Murphy already has said he won’t play Sunday. Mitchell has not ruled out the prospect of making his 2011 debut, though it appears unlikely, given he hasn’t practiced in a month or so.
Receiver Darrius Hewyard-Bey (knee) is at practice and running routes. He said he felt good at practice Wednesday and is hopeful of playing Sunday.
Kicker Sebastian Janikowski (foot) also is at practice. However, his contribution during the media access window consisted of working the machine that launches footballs in place of a kicker or punter. He was limited at practice Wednesday.
Cornerback Chris Johnson (groin) returned to practice after missing one day because of an injury he suffered in the regular-season opener.
Tight end Kevin Boss looked fine in practice, and he should make his Raiders debut Sunday.
No official word yet on whether Sunday’s home-opener is sold out. The Raiders aren’t required to divulge the status of the ticket count until 72 hours before kick-off. Therefore, we likely won’t know if the Raiders-Jets game is going to be televised locally until 3 hours or so from now.

We can do it too ya know…
Line up DHB and Chaz on the outside, put Moore and McFadden in the slots, with Bush in the Backfield, and lets show these mf’ers what we can do with a NO HUDDLE Spread offense…you wanna see a gassed Defense? Lets do that for 2 quarters and find out who feels like pursuing the ball now..
Trips Left DHB, Hagan, Moore…twins Right, Chaz outside and McFadden in the Slot…Empty Backfield..
Get to Campbell before McFadden scorches your Linebacker for a 35 yard touchdown…
2 can play at this game folks.

There was a catch by DHB early in the 49er preseason game were DHB was in tight coverage, adjested to the ball, and made a nice catch with his hands. I was amazed and thought maybe this is the beginning of something. I am still waiting to see that in a regular season game, although I haven’t seen him drop one yet this year in the one game that he played.
*************************************
He isnt a starter….a 4th or 5th WR at best

Also point out that 49ers #1 and #2 corners did not play that game. He was playing against 3rd and 4th stringers, or I was told.

All the national media analysts have nothing but glowing descriptions of D. Moore. You look at the youtube highlight reel from just Buffalo, and you can’t help but realize that this is a future star wideout. He just needs the opportunity to start. Yet Al Davis continues to follow this insane idea that DHB is worthy of being on the same field as Moore.

ets C Nick Mangold (ankle) claims he plans to play in Sunday’s game against the Raiders.
While offensive linemen can play through high-ankle sprains more effectively than skill players, we suspect Mangold is being overly optimistic here. A report earlier this week had Mangold out 2-3 weeks “at a minimum.” Mangold is off crutches but in a walking boot. His likely absence won’t help Shonn Greene break out.

It was CJ or McClain. Johnson was covering Nelson he went in motion and then the ball was snapped. Either Johnson and McClain were to switch and it’s McClains fault or CJ gave up his man THINKING they were supposed to switch. We would have to ask Chuck B, RM or CJ.

——————————————————
With the emergence of Moore and Ford as deep threats, I think we are going to see DHB moved to more of a possesion WR instead of that so called deep threat. Shorter routes, underneath stuff, and the likes. Same role Chaz and Hagan play.
We are always going to rotate at least 4 WRs on game day. Hagan will play plenty.

Moore is starting this weekend.
Chaz will be on the bench.
The knee injury that DHB has will give Hue all the leverage needed to limit DHBs snaps IF he looks like he doesn’t belong out there.
In years past, there was not a SINGLE WR on this team that performed to Moore’s or Hagan’s level. Chaz, DHB, and Murphy will all need to match the level of play of the 2 new guys to keep seeing the field.
Cream will most certainly rise to the top.

On the Fritzpat bootleg, I am just amazed how Wimbley can ignore his responibility and not keep containment on that play.It is frustrating watching The Raiders forget basic fundamental strategy that cost them losing games on many occasions.
On the Spiller run during the 2nd T.D. drive, T.Kelly let THE SAME LINEMAN block him several times on the same play. How could he allow himself to stay in that position to be blocked for that long of time!!!
The 2nd T.D. Boyd had help on the outside. What would make him bite on the outside move falls under either I don’t trust my help on the other side or I don’t understand the defensive scheme.
We keep hearing the Raiders have the talent to be better that just good. If the Raiders minimize the mental error they could be great!!!
Now, Raiders on the next outing let whup some NYJ tail!!! Raiders Be With You

I say let dhb rest the knee another month… can’t risk him reinjuring his knee… he’s much to valuable to the organization! !

You would think DHB dropped 4 balls and had a fumble against Denver the way some of you are carrying on.
Either that or recently acquired from the 9rs.
DAMMMM!!!!
******
I don’t hate DHB. But haven’t seen one catch that made me say “wow” in a good way – I mean. All a bunch of body basket catches squared up to the QB. He’s not as pathetic as last year, but it definitely bothers me that he is the defacto starter. Let him earn it. If he rightly earns it, I’ll back off.

Opening eyes.
Good enough to ensure that he is active each week.
His performance coupled with Nicki Miller’s ineptness will give him another shot to perform this weekend.
Going to be interesting to see how the lineup shakes out once Ford and Murphy are healthy.
Putting DHB aside for a second, Chaz and Murphy haven’t done what Hagan is doing either. If Chaz and Murphy get playing time over Hagan are you going to tell me that Al is trying to be right about them too?
I think it will all play itself out and the best players will see the most time. Our offense is pretty much scoring at will anyway, so no big deal, imo.

Yeah, but it’s like in baseball or golf. The good ones have muscle memory and have their technique down pat. It’s the same for receivers who hone their instincts to know when to turn and find the right angle for the ball, and the really good ones, like Moore, know how to find the ball at its apex. But DHB is like a David Kingman type homerun hitter who occasionally can hit the homer, but his batting avg makes him a daily liability. And I think I just gave DHB too much credit.

It’s clear as day that Moore should be a starter.
It’s clear as day that J Ford should be our slot WR.
DHB and Hagan are the contenders for the other WR spot. I have no problem with Hagan being 3 and DHB being 4th despite the propoganda put forth by soldierbohhy.
Murphy is terrible to me. Been dropping way too many balls since that preseason game against the Saints his rookie year. Hurt all the damn time. Unreliable.

Last week on the second to last play with six seconds left I was hoping for the Raiders to run a quick 7 yard hitch, have the reciever go down and call time out immidiatly, and line Seabass up for a 67 yard try. Of course coach Jackson saw him warm up before the game and had a better idea than me what his range was on that field on that day.

It’s funny how many people will defend a defense that played one of the worst second halves of football in recent memory. It’s one thing to have failures on a drive or two, but to repeatedly have the same failures on EVERY drive of the second half is a good indication to me that there is a glaring deficiency on the D. Our pass rush sucked, our LB sucked and our DB sucked. Ergo, our entire defense sucked. NYJ will score 70 points on us if we play like that again.

Hagans performance was pretty much what DHB did when he last played, so I see that as a wash.
Again, I have no problem with Hagan being 4 and DHB 3. I think it will eventually shake out like that. I think all 4 guys are going to see time on the field though, so it’s not that big of a deal to me.
Nicki Miller had the same so called scholarship that DHB had. He’s been terrible, so he’s being replaced. If DHB has a terrible performance, he too will be replaced. If he is as bad as you think he is, it won’t be long.

Jhill. .. our offense has to score tds. .. I think its dopey to tell an offense… ” you guys scored too fast” … unless your driving for a winning score with less than 2 min inside the one yard li ne.. or something like that… we weren’t there…

A 2.5-pound shipment of marijuana was seized at the home of Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Jerome Simpson on Wednesday.
The head of the National Marijuana Initiative, a government-funded organization that coordinates marijuana enforcement, told Californiawatch.org that the home was set up as a distribution network. “They had it all set up to receive supplies of high-grade marijuana from Northern California, and from there, it was being distributed from that residence,” Tommy LaNier told the website.

I dont see any reason why JC shouldn’t be comfortable playing 10 on 11 with the guys on the other team.

Did DMac get 100 yds rushing with DHB out this weekend?
Hmmmm ….
DHB and Chaz on the field at the same time = 2 big muhfuhhgin WRs blocking when we run the ball. And we are a run first team, right?

This is for RRS, DVD in coverage, right there just needed to turn and take
some of these guys here have a stiffy for CJ37 for some reason that obviously goes beyond his play on the field.
***
Carl Weathers,
nobody is questioning DVD’s speed. He can probably run step for step with any receiver in the league. He’s a track guy – like DHB. Does he have any corner skills? what exactly did he do in college to merit a 3rd round selection?
I’m rooting for CJ37 because I think he’s underrated and he’s obviously the 2nd best CB on the team. the starter opposite Routt.
Hue Jackson isn’t playing the BLAME game and if you love the guy so much, listen to what he says!
Stevie Johnson is a good WR and Ryan Fitzpatrick is a good QB. the Raiders didn’t sack him in 46 pass attempts. We lost the game because Chan Gailey beat Chuck B in the chess match. You lose games when you can’t stuff the run and you can’t get after the QB. Your only hope is to outscore them. Saying CJ37 (playing with a groin injury) is the reason we lost = dumbest comment of the day. Sorry bro

You know what’s a better question. …. if you had to cut one Guy. . Chaz or dhb?? .. I would rather keep dhb…. !!! Man!! That sucks. . But chaz bono has the same amount of receptions as chaz schilens this season..
