Sunday’s Raiders-Patriots game sold out

By Steve Corkran
Thursday, September 29th, 2011 at 1:04 pm in Oakland Raiders.

A Raiders official confirmed that Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots is sold out. Therefore, it will be televised locally.
The Raiders also sold out their home-opener against the New York Jets last Sunday. That gives them sellouts in back-to-back games for the first time since late in the 2008 season.
The Raiders sold out only one game each of the past two seasons.

Bears Hall of Famer Hampton refuses White House invite

    By Chris Chase

Former Chicago Bears defensive tackle Dan Hampton won’t be attending the team’s visit to the White House next month. The Hall of Famer told WLS-890 in Chicago that his decision is based on a “personal choice.”

President Oama invited the 1985 Super Bowl championship team to visit Washington, D.C., earlier this month. The Bears had been scheduled to meet with President Reagan in January of 1986, but the Challenger disaster forced the White House to cancel the planned meeting.

Hampton gave three reasons for not attending:

    1. Wives and children of the players weren’t invited.

That does seem like an oversight by whoever planned the meeting. Granted, children of the players are most likely adults by now so it’s not like a 5-year-old is getting snubbed, but surely the White House could have pulled out some more folding chairs for the event.

    2. He says he’s “not a fan of the guy in the White House.”

A frequent reason given by those who decline White House invites, whether it be for Oama or any president who came before him. This sounds lame and takes a tremendous lack of perspective. Declining an opportunity to go to the White House and shake hands with the President of the United States because you don’t like the guy’s opinion on health care seems petty. Does Hampton not have any friends who are Democrats?

    3. “It was 25 years ago. Let it go.”

I’m sort of on Hampton’s side on this one (though not enough to make it a valid excuse for declining). It’s not like every Super Bowl team was going to the White House back then; the Bears were only the second team to get the invite. The 25-year-old canceled visit is a thinly veiled excuse to invite the team from Oama’s adopted hometown for a visit. What about other championship squads? Where’s John Riggins’ and The Hogs’ invite? The 1974 Dolphins can’t get any love?! (And Florida’s a swing state, Brack!)

someone claiming that while Tom Brady was playing golf someone in the audience yelled “Al Davis wants you” and Brady replied “I’ll never play for the Raiders”

    RRS,

Hampton’s reason number 2 certainly doesn’t tarnish the validity of reasons 1 and 3, does it?

McMahon and Ditka are going to be there. That’s all you need. And we know the spirit of Sweetness will be there. Screw Hampton.

HUGE GAME. This is the biggest game since 2002 Superbowl. When da rayyyydaaahhhhhssssss win this will make them hit covers of all magazines and help RUN DMC get that first pro-bowl and MVP award.

  • raiderlization

Like Al wants another jack a@@ who thinks he is the team! That’s why they haven’t won a Playoff Game since 07 and Manning has only 1 ring and his team is done! We don’t need Brady we are not Patriot Fans that’s probably why we don’t care about his comments!Raiders are a team!Always have been just ask Marcus Allen who he shared the backfield with? Do you Know Bo? LoL!Why I also say all of the fuss about DMAC as if Bush won’t play? LoL

It’s a great day to be a Raiders fan. Isn’t it?!

Nothing like a sold-out Big O tailgate party…my backpack still smells like the ribs & tri-tip we BBQ’d last week!

    YEEEEEEEAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!

  • Sullivan44

You can’t blame the Raiders for not drafting Brady, considering he was nobody at the time (although it doesn’t excuse drafting a kicker, either, which is just retarded). But if they had, my goodness. It’s hard to say. He and Gruden might still be here. Well, of course they wouldn’t, because Al would have eventually run both of them out of here for taking his brand to a place he could never take it. We know how that is. But Brady could have been huge studying under Gruden and Gannon.

  • GFFMP77

Hmmm…make the mothly morgage or make the trip up to Oakland? Choices choices…

Marcus Allen = Raiders’ all time leading rusher. Just in case anyone forgot.

  • HayesDaze37

“…taking his brand to a place he could never take it.”

Ummm…didn’t Al Davis’ Raiders win 3 Super Bowl trophies without Gruden?

Of course he did. What a load…from a load.

  • HayesDaze37

Bo Jackson = as good as Marcus ever was, and probably better. Al’s and Marcus’s estrangement notwithstanding.

In as little as 2 more seasons healthy, Bo Jackson would’ve been considered as good as the great Jim Brown.

  • qodrn

    Someone please ask D. Moore
    1. What was the atmosphere at the Raiders like compared to what he expected?
    2. Has he actually talked to Al?
    3. Does he like the area here and the fans?

Got to do the kid pick up thing at 3:30.

  • qodrn

Evidently, there is no recession in the Raider nation.
